Shizuki had a job lined up immediately through connections his father had and was looking forward to exploring New York City before his job started. Since he had lived at home for quite some time, he had enough money saved up that he was able to afford a nice apartment with a view of the river.
As he gazed out the window, he was surprised when he heard a knock on the door, as he didn't think anyone else knew he had moved in yet. He looked through the peephole and saw it was a young woman, so he cautiously opened the door.
"Hi, I'm Alexa, I live next door. When I heard there would be someone living here, I found out what day you'd be moving in. I hope you don't mind, I cooked dinner." Shizuki was speechless as he wasn't used to someone so energetic being around lately. Mizuki was that energetic, but he hadn't seen her in a while.
"Thank you very much for dinner, would you care to join me?" Shizuki offered to be polite but had hoped she would say no.
"Actually, I can't stay, I just thought I'd show you where the mail room is, it's near impossible to find."
"Again, thank you. I'd appreciate it." Alexa grabbed his hand and pulled him down the corridor and down the three flights of stairs and through the corridors before stopping abruptly.
"Here you are, just use your apartment key. It was nice to meet you, I'll have to show you some of my favorite parts of New York." Alexa skipped off as Shizuki grabbed his mail. He had bills, a letter from some friends, and a pink envelope that had come from Japan. He tore up the letter, surprised to hear from Julia instead of Mizuki. He wondered how Julia had found his address and mailed him a letter so quickly.
It was short, sweet and to the point.
Hey Shizuki,
Mizuki told me you moved to New York City. Enjoy the city life. Miss you lots! Write back., I'd love to hear from you!
~Julia
It was unusual for Julia to be so brief. Shrugging it off as nothing, he grabbed a pen, some paper, and a beer, plopping down on his couch in front of the TV to write a long letter back to Julia, including details about his neighbor. As soon as he turned the TV on, he changed the channel when he realized he was watching the kiss from Titanic, a movie he absolutely hated.
