They made their way through the first floor hand in hand, joking and teasing each other as they went.
Pam showed Tara everything and loved the wide eyes and almost childlike amazement that would sometimes take over Taras features when they entered a room.
The way Tara carried herself was a breath of fresh air to the generally cold and caustic vamp. Her carefree attitude and demeanor warmed Pams heart and her infectious laugh was like music to her ears. She couldnt remember the last time she had enjoyed herself so much by just being with another person. Dare she say it, she may have even been having fun.
The second floor was mostly bedrooms and there were two more large bathrooms up there that were almost identical to the one Tara had been using as well as an office type room, where Pam stored all of her important documents and such that didnt pertain to the bar.
"Whats in there?" Tara asked, pointing to the two large double doors at the very end of the hallway. It looked different from the other rooms they had seen. The doorway was arched and the handles were made of crystal, much like the chandaliers that hung above their heads.
Pam smirked. She had specifically save this room for last, and she couldnt wait to see Taras reaction.
"C'mon..." She replied, a hint of mischeif lacing her tone as she pulled them both toward the room, gently tugging at Taras hand.
Tara couldnt help but smile at the playfullness she picked up from Pam. The vampire was stunning always, but there was something about the way she looked when she truly smiled or laughed that got Tara everytime.
She knew how the vamp generally carried herself, more so from things she had heard from Sookie and Lafayette than actually expiriencing them herself, but none the less she knew the blonde liked to play herself as a heartless and vulgar bitch. She felt priveledged that Pam allowed herself to be so open and relaxed and sometimes even vulnerable with her.
Pam turned the handle and let the two large doors yawn open theatrically before leading them inside.
"Holy shit." Tara breathed, completely awed by what she saw. The room was huge and there were hundreds...no..thousands of books lining every wall all the way to the top of the raised ceilings. In fact she was pretty sure it was bigger than the town library in Bon Temp.
Two large plush armchairs sat caddy cornered on each side of a small round table, and the overhead lights were dimmed and a crystal lamp glowed brightly giving the place a calm and relaxing look.
Dropping the vampires hand, she took a few steps deeper into the room looking all around. She was completely mesmerized.
Pam felt the giddy excitement flowing from Tara and it made her own stomach flutter. She made a note to surprise the human more often.
"May I..." Tara trailed off, looking back at Pam, who simply smiled and nodded her head once.
"Of course..." She purred, walking up behind Tara and letting her hands rest gently on her shoulders, sighing contently when she felt her whole body relax beneath her touch. Leaning forward, she placed a chaste kiss to the velvety skin of Taras neck.
"Thats what they are for doll."
Tara felt herself shiver slightly at the sensation of Pams lips on her skin. She swallowed and turned around to face the vampire, rising a bit to make up for the difference in height she pressed their lips together firmly.
There wasnt much heat behind the kiss and it was nowhere near as wanton and passion fueled as their kisses often were. It was simple, short and sweet and Pam could help the small moan that escaped from her throat at the gesture.
A smug smile wanted so badly to creep across Taras face as their lips parted and she pulled back to look at Pam, but she caught it and opted for a more neutral one instead.
She could feel what Pam was feeling. Most of it was very similar to what she herself felt as well. However she could also feel the slight anxiety, and knew it was because the vampire was starting to feel overwhelmed by all of the emotions between them.
Turning on her heel, she walked over to one of the book shelves and began scanning the titles. She couldnt believe all the wonderful books. The selection ranged from the classics, to nonfictions, and poetry galore.
She was still in awe and was beginning to believe she really had died the other night at the hands of Debbie Pelt and had gone to heaven. Great food, mindblowing sex with a beautiful woman, and and endless supply of literature, was definitely her kind of paradise.
"See anything you like?"
Tara turned at the sound of Pams sultry drawl and flashed her a sheepish smile.
"Are you kidding? This is amazing...I dont think Ive ever seen so many books in one place." She chuckled and Pam smiled.
"What have you got there?" She asked, gesturing at the book in Taras hand.
Tara held it up in front of her, knowing the vampire could read it easily from where she had seated herself in one of the chairs. It was a book of poems by Robert Frost.
Pam was pleased.
"Poetry huh?" She asked casually, motioning for Tara to come closer.
Tara nodded and began walking toward the vampire until she came to a stop in front of her chair.
Smiling, Pam reached up and took the book from Tara and sat it down beside her. She grabbed both of her hands then and tugged the human toward her gently.
Tara laughed and let Pam pull her down on top of her before settling comfortably in her lap. She cuddled against the soft material of the blondes shirt and sighed.
"Thank you." She breathed, looking up at Pam.
"For what?" Pam asked, meeting Taras gaze.
"For showing me this..." She gestured around the room with one hand. "...and for bringing me here to your house and staying with me...just...thanks for everything."
Pam didnt say anything, instead she wrapped her arms around the girl and hugged her tightly. She played her fingers through midnight tresses and began to wonder where this was all going. She knew the feelings she was experiencing werent just going to go away at this point, shed given up on that theory awhile ago, and she knew that it was likely they would just continue to grow into something that was more foreign to her than sunlight.
She was slowly beginning to accept this as her reality, but it still scared her shitless. There was also the fact that the two of them had much more in common than she had originally realized.
From their rocky upbringing and complicated relationships with family and friends to their shared love of literature, they were so alike it was almost funny. Not that Pam had really shared much about her own past with Tara, that would come eventually.
For right now she decided to just focus on the fact that her little human had a beautiful mind as well as a beautiful body and she couldnt wait to get inside her head.
Tara felt the warmth coming from Pam as the vampire remained lost in reverie, she sighed quietly basking in it, but again chose not to comment, not wanting to overwhelm the vampire.
Pam sensed this as well and smirked to herself. Not only was Tara beautiful and smart, but she was apparently quite insightful as well. She took a deep breath and sent a wave of appreciation and affection to Tara and kissed the top of her head.
Loosening her hold on Tara, Pam reached for the book that lay temporarily forgotton on the cushion beside her.
She opened and turned the pages until she found the one she was looking for, and began reading the poem out loud.
"The shattered water made a misty din.
Great waves looked over others coming in,
And thought of doing something to the shore
That water never did to land before.
The clouds were low and hairy in the skies,
Like locks blown forward in the gleam of eyes.
You could not tell, and yet it looked as if..."
Tara was taken by the sight of Pam and the sound of her voice as the words fell so easily from her tounge. How could she know?
"The shore was lucky in being backed by cliff,
The cliff in being backed by continent;
It looked as if a night of dark intent
Was coming, and not only a night, an age.
Someone had better be prepared for rage.
There would be more than ocean-water broken
Before God's last Put out the Light was spoken." She finished the poem for Pam, reciting it from memory, earning a raised eyebrow and a barely there smile from the vampire.
"Heard it before?" Pam asked needlessly, and Tara nodded.
"Its my favorite..." She stated.
"Mine too." Pam returned softly.
Tara just smiled at her and cuddled back into her.
They stayed that way for the rest of the evening, talking about any and everything and reading passages from their favorite authors. At around four thirty Tara fell asleep and Pam carried her up to the bedroom and placed her gently on the bed.
It was still too early to go to sleep so she walked over to the dresser and looked in the mirror. Glancing down, she caught sight of Taras phone. She had noticed it was broken the other night when she placed her belongings in a stack on the chair, but her mind had been elsewhere at the time and she hadnt thought about it again.
She picked it up and attempted to power it on, and groaned in annoyance when she realized the battery must be dead. She crept quietly back out of the room and vamp sped the rest of the way down stairs. Walking into the sitting room, she let herslef sink into the sofa and sighed, before picking up the phone and dialing the familiar number.
"Pam...my delightful offspring, to what do I owe the pleasure..?"
Pam ignored Erics sarcastic greeting and cut right to the chase.
"I need fern gullys number..." She deadpanned.
There was a pause, and Pam huffed impatiently.
"Hello?" She muttered exhasperatedly.
"Im here.." Eric replied calmly. "You want Sookies phone number?"
"I didnt say I wanted it..." She drawled dispassionately. "I said I needed it...Tara has to go back to work tomorrow and shes going to need a ride home."
"Wheres her car?" Eric asked, and Pam rolled her eyes.
"Its at her cousins! For the love of...could you just give me the damn number? I promise Ill be extra nice to your little ball of sunshine." She said perkily, her smile overly sweet.
Eric chuckled and reluctantly gave Pam sookies number. She scoffed at him when he informed her that Sookie was probably in bed at this hour, she told him she had it under control.
Afer they hung up she retrieved her cell phone and quickly typed out the instructions for her request and sent it to the number Eric had given her via text message. It was really more of a demand than a request, but she figured the fairy wouldnt hesitate to help her friend so it probably wouldnt come to that.
She made a quick stop in the kitchen retrieving a pad of paper and a pen she carefully wrote out instructions for Charlotte to call Sookie tomorrow as well, just to be sure she got the message and knew how to get there. She placed it on the counter so that the maid would see it as soon as she arrived for work the next morning.
She headed back up stairs to the room where Tara was still peacefully slumbering away, and leant down to kiss her forehead.
She took a seat at a small table and powered up her lap top. She browsed the pages and shopped online until she could feel dawn approaching quickly. She shut the computer and made her way to the bad. Climbing in, she crawled up until she was right beside Tara and pulled the humans small body toward her until Taras back was against her chest.
Breathing in the humans scent, she let dawn take her and drifted off to sleep.
