- Chapter 12 -

- Thalia's POV -

I sat up, rubbing eyes and blinked the drowsiness out. I was now sitting on a field of grass and as I looked around, I realised that we were still at Lake Leschenaultia. Everyone else was still asleep, some of them still snoring.

"You're up," I heard a young, slightly high-pitched voice say from behind me.

I turned around to find a young girl who was definitely no older than fourteen. She had long hair the shade of auburn, that cascaded down her back in slight waves and her eyes were silver...? Silver... Silver. What kind of eyes were silver? There were definitely grey eyes, for the children of Athena, but... silver? I had never seen anything like this before, with the exception of gods and goddesses.

She had a few freckles scattered across her cheeks and she seemed quite content. Her hands fiddled at their own accord with a few strands of grass, with a serene expression plastered on her face. It was like she couldn't stop her fingers from moving. Like her hands were itching to do something. She was wearing a white sundress with several blue floral designs, that reached her mid-thigh, and she had natural beauty. What was she? A daughter of Olympus?

"Who are you?" I asked quietly, not wanting to wake my friends up or be rude.

"I don't know," she replied, shrugging, like not knowing who she was, was completely normal for someone. I raised my eyebrows, instinictively. "Well, my name is Annabella Campbell, but please, don't call me that. I absolutely despise my full name. I don't know why my mother named me that. "

"Then what do people call you?" I asked, curiously.

She sighed and shrugged again, brushing her black bangs out of her eyes. "I don't talk to many people but you can call me Belle."

"Belle?" I repeated, testing how it sounded like.

"Yeah," she responded with a small smile, "I had one friend. One only. And he was gay. Once I was daydreaming and he snapped his fingers in front of my face, then I yelled out BELL!' So now, people call me that. I have a lot of nicknames – Anne, Anna, Belle, Bella, Belly. You can call me whatever you want."

"Wow... that's a ... lot of names," I said.

Silver eyes... which were the eyes of Artemis, just without the crescents. The way she talked and ranted on. And the way she fiddled a lot. ADHD. No... No way... I had to find out more. This couldn't be true.

"What happened to you though?"

"Oh, um... I-I," she stuttered, hesitantly.

"You don't have to say it," I said. Why was I acting so... kind to this girl? We had to bash her out of an ice cubicle, for the gods' sake! I just felt this... instinctive feeling that I was to be nice and caring. I had also felt a feeling of protection when I had seen her. Was it some way to care for a daughter, or a sister?

"No, it's okay. I will tell you. But when the others are awake. I don't want to repeat myself a few times. It's... quite a long story, you could say."

I nodded in agreement and waited. Five minutes later, I was ready to zap them all with electricity so that they would wake up.

"How long have we been asleep for?" I asked Belle or whatever her name was.

"Six hours," she replied, "I woke up once I was brought up by them two." She pointed at Percy and Piper at the end.

Six. Hours? Holy Gods of Olympus, we needed to get moving. We couldn't afford to waste any time on this quest. Who knew when the others would attack? We didn't even know what would entirely happen, but that part was expected, considering everything else we had been through in our demigod lives.

"Oi! WAKE UP!" I screamed, while zapping them with electricity. Not too much, of course. They flinched at the 'nice' wake-up call and jolted up, wide awake.

"Did you really have to do that, Pinecone Face?" Percy asked, glaring at me.

"Yes."

"Who's this?" Travis asked, gesturing towards the young girl.

"She's..." I started off, "You can introduce yourself."

"I'm Annabella Campbell," she re-introduced herself, "But don't call me that. It's a handful, I know. Call me Belle, Bella, or Anne, or anything other than my actual name."

"Oh, okay," Annabeth said, "We're - "

"I know who you guys are," Belle interjected.

"Really now?" I asked. "Prove it."

She nodded and said each and every one of our names gesturing towards the correct person.

"Thalia Grace, daughter of Zeus. Sister of Jason Grace. You used to be the Lieutenant of Artemis, the maiden goddess. You were once a tree that protected some camp's borders and you were brought back to life by the Golden Fleece, which is also missing. You went on a quest to save Artemis. You fought in the Second Titan War. You were crushed under one of Hera's statue."

I glared at her, but she didn't seem affected by it at all. She did not have to bring that horrid memory back. I was still being hated by Hera.

"Nico di Angelo, son of Hades. Half-brother of Hazel Levesque. Ghost King. Brother of ex-Hunter Bianca di Angelo. You convinced your father to help out in the Second Titan War, along with Demeter and Persephone. Need any more proof?"

We shook our heads slowly. If she was thirteen, how did she know all this? This would've happened when she was only ten or eleven years old.

"How do you know us?" Annabeth asked.

The girl shrugged, "I have no idea."

"So, what was your story?" I asked.

Belle tucked a strand of her auburn hair behind her ear and took a deep breath before telling us of her past.

"I've never known my mum. I've never seen her. She disappeared the moment right after she gave birth to me, so my dad had to raise me up all by himself. He really loved my mum - anyone could tell. He was so heartbroken when my mum just ditched the two of us without any warning. He treated me fine though, like any parent should. But, when I was six, he turned to drugs. He started drinking all the time. When I came back from school, I would always find him on the floor unconscious, surrounded by empty wine and beer bottles. He smoked weed. The 'home' wasn't even a home. It was a dump.

"As a child, I was beaten up and abused nearly every day by him. I only had one friend from school, and he was gay. He got beaten up by my father too. I suffered from depression and bullying. The bullying at school got so bad, my friend got beaten up to death. Right in front of my eyes. That was last year. It still haunts me. I would have nightmares. Sometimes, they would be about wars in the Greek world. I grew up to believe them. This Then, I couldn't take it anymore. I ran away. I've been on the run for months now.

"Then this goddess came up to me about a week ago, and froze me. That's why I was there, and you guys had to break me out of the cube."

"W-Wow," Katie spluttered out, blinking. "That's horrible! Nobody should go through anything like that."

I looked away from everyone, because that was exactly like my own past. It brought back even more horrid memories. That good for nothing whore of a mother I had. She didn't even deserve the title of being called a mother.

"Hey, Thals. You okay?" Annabeth asked, gesturing towards my hands. I looked down, to find them crackling with electricity.

"I'm fine," I replied, looking back up, just in time to hear Percy yell, "WE'VE BEEN ASLEEP FOR SIX HOURS?"

"Yes, Seaweed Brain. We have," Annabeth replied.

"We need to get going," Travis spoke up.

We gathered our equipment in silence and swam back towards the jetty. Our weapons and bags slowed us down quite a bit, but Percy was able to control the tide and the direction of the current, making it much more convenient to reach the actual recreational centre.

"Okay, now how exactly are we supposed to get Artemis' bows and arrows?" I asked, once we were right in front of the

"I don't know," Katie shrugged, "Belle's the key to it, isn't she?"

Belle (I decided to call her that, because it was just simple and easy to remember) walked straight in and grabbed the quiver filled with arrows and the bow. "I am," she informed us, "All you needed was me. I am the only one who can retrieve this apart from Hecate, the goddess herself, of course. She's the one who did all of this."

As she gripped onto the two sacred items, she glowed a bright silver, nearly blinding our eyes. She stumbled back, grasping for thin air. Something that looked like a vortex appeared in the air for a few seconds, before the special aura disappeared, along with the items, and she slowly regained her balance.

"What. Was. That?" Leo asked, curiously.

"I've seen even weirder things," Nico muttered. "This is nothing."

"Cable Beach. Broome. Western Australia," Annabeth read out. "Any idea how long it takes to get there, Piper?"

The daughter of Aphrodite shook her head and Annabeth trailed her finger up the map of Australia. "It's the only other one in Western Australia."

"After Broome, we should move on to South Australia, then Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and Northern Territory last."

"I have no idea what you just said," Leo muttered.

Annabeth shot him a glare as she studied the map even more. We were in the car, driving back to Perth's airport. We needed to catch a domestic airline, in order to get to Broome. Mayo was in the backseat, fast asleep, snoring slightly.

"Who do you think she's a daughter of?" Travis asked.

"No idea," Piper shrugged.

"She has the qualities of a lot of the gods," Nico mused. "Like the grey eyes of Athena and her wisdom, and her love for nature like Demeter."

"Nico's got a point, guys," Annabeth started, "She might as well be the daughter of Apollo. You heard her sing quietly to herself. Also, she seems quite stubborn, maybe from Ares. Her personality is like Hestia's. She's friendly, and she does seem to like taking charge just like Zeus..."

"Do you think she's a daughter of Olympus?" I asked, curiously.

"She could be... but children of Olympus are extremely rare, aren't they?" Katie asked.

"Yes, even more than a fire user," Annabeth replied, "There are two possibilties. She could be the daughter of just one of the goddesses, but granted or blessed with one or more aspects of each of the other main gods on Olympus, including Hades and Hestia. In some cases, they could also be blessed by the minor gods too. Or, the second one, is even rarer. Somehow, a child just appears in a random woman's womb. She doesn't need to have done the deed with a god. The baby is just special - automatically blessed with powers and abilities."

"Has there ever been one?"

"No... She could be the first one..."

Even after this talk, I still had my suspicions about the girl.
