I don't own Twilight or the characters!
Warning: This chapter contains flashbacks. Since there is a large chunk of story missing in the middle (the thirteen years they spent apart), it's time to start filling that in. I know a few of you wanted to know how certain things played out and I will begin revealing some of those things in the next couple of chapters.
Italicized parts are when they are in wolf form.
Who did this woman think she was? Sure she was Jacob's imprint, but she acted like that was an important job title. Jayden could sense that something wasn't so innocent about this girl. She appeared to be a person that was always scheming.
"Look Angela…I don't think you understood me the first time I said this but…this is over. I don't give a fuck if you're my imprint. I'm the leader of this pack, the Alpha and I'm fighting for my family for once. Let that sink in," Jacob hissed. Jayden was taken aback by his harsh tone with an imprint. Weren't imprints supposed to be the sacred love of a shapeshifter's life? That' how all the other imprint couples acted.
"Jacob," Rachel gasped.
"Jake….how how could you say that," Angela cried. She reached out for Jacob's arm but he quickly yanked away.
"This is over," he repeated through clenched teeth.
"I'm pregnant," Angela shouted as Jacob began to walk away. It stopped them all in their tracks because they thought the imprint relationship never went that far. "Let that sink in." She turned her back and went back into the house with Andrea following close behind.
….
"Dude what the hell are you going to do now," Quil asked.
"No, the question is when the fuck did you sleep with her," Paul added.
"How about both of you mind your business. She's probably lying anyway because she's pissed off about what I told her."
"You can't deny an imprint Jake. Trust me, I know firsthand," Sam interjected.
Jacob scoffed. "Is that why your wife hates you right now. Fuck Angela."
"Looks like you've already done that," Paul laughed.
"Shut the fuck up and focus on the mission!"
"No need to pretend like you're really looking for my mom because you love her. How about we call off this mission and I find her myself. Go back home to your imprint and child. I don't need you," Jayden thought. "Why don't you all stop pretending?"
"Look kid, we all care about your mom very much and trust me, you aren't going in there alone and coming back out alive. Stop trying to be tough because you'll get your little ass beat before you know it. I was like you once and I learned the hard way," Paul replied.
"What makes you think we're pretending? I'm just curious," Quil asked.
"Thirteen years," Jayden said.
"What," Jared asked.
"Thirteen years. Figure it out."
Jacob knew what he meant the first time he said it. He couldn't help but let his mind wander into the past.
~Flashback~
His chest began to tighten and his heart raced. This couldn't be happening to him after all these years. He had imprinted on Angela, Bella's best friend from high school. He had seen her before, but it was before he had phased. His eyes were locked on her and he didn't dare look away. Angela smiled warmly as he continued to stare.
"What the hell are you looking at man," Jared asked, his eyes following Jacob's as Angela walked away. "Tell me you didn't."
"I think I imprinted."
"On her? On a local girl," Jared asked. "You sure you didn't drink too much today? You've been a little off your rocker lately."
"Just a six pack but that's light weight stuff. No, this is definitely imprinting. It's just like Sam described it."
Jared sighed loudly. "Well you better figure out how to break it fast with Leah coming home soon."
"She's not coming home."
Jared's eyes widened. "Wait, you said you were bringing them home in the next month or so. Dude it's been ten years, don't you miss them?"
"Yea I miss them but she can't come back now. I just imprinted on a girl, how the hell do I explain that to my wife? I'll just keep her away long enough until I break it. She'll get curious and probably a little pissed, but I can't let her know I have an imprint. That would crush her. I would be no better than Sam."
"You can't break an imprint," Jared replied.
….
Jayden's blood began to boil once again. How many lies had Jacob been hiding from their family? He was losing more and more of his respect.
"It was to protect your mother Jay. You wouldn't understand," Jacob thought.
"No I understand now. You're a selfish, lying bastard. All you care about is yourself and how you feel. I hope my mom leaves you for good. You don't even deserve her," Jayden snapped.
Jacob stopped in his tracks. "Do you think I wanted this for you? Stay in a child's place Jayden."
"How bout you…"
"Enough!" The rest of the pack could even feel the command rake through their bodies.
"When are we meeting up with the Cullens," Sam asked.
"We'll meet them in Canada and then take off from there. I want to cover every inch of this land before we leave. Just in case."
Everyone's mind was quiet for a few minutes. They were all focused on the same mission for once.
~Flashback~
He was beginning to drink more than usual. It was his way of forgetting everything that was going on until the buzz wore off. Hard liquor was becoming his favorite because beer wasn't giving him the escape he needed. His living room was full of empty glass bottles. He had broken many of them out of frustration. The pack tried to get him out of the house but he only came out when they had to handle pack business. He didn't talk very much but when he did he was snapping at people. His own imprint couldn't make him happy.
"Don't you want to go to a movie or something? That may take your mind off all this," Angela suggested.
"Nope."
"Come on Jake. You've been in this house for three days. Get out and have fun."
"How about you get out and have fun. No one asked you to stay in here with me. I'm sure Andrea and Rachel are willing to free you from this hellhole," Jacob snapped.
"I didn't say this was a hellhole. I actually enjoy being around you…even when you're acting like an ass. But I understand why and I'm here to help you get through it. You have to trust me," Angela said as she sat on Jacob's lap. He took another swig of his drink before Angela snatched it from his hands. "This has to stop. How does drinking help?"
"It just does." He snatched the bottle back and took another long swig. The liquid burned on the way down but he could feel his pain easing as his head began to spin.
"You're only hurting yourself."
"Wolves can't get hurt by alcohol like you normal people. I'll be fine, stop your worrying."
"But I worry about you," Angela whined. She smiled warmly and wrapped her arms around Jacob's neck. "I can make you feel better."
"And how do you expect to do that?"
"Trust me, I'm better than this little ol' bottle of whiskey," she purred. She grabbed his hand and pulled him towards the bedroom.
Before Jayden could lunge at Jacob, Paul and Sam were in front of him. "Let me go!"
"Do you think you can control your thoughts Jacob? Geez," Paul groaned. "The kid is already scarred for life. Way to rub it in."
"We all know it's hard to control thoughts. I'm sorry," Jacob apologized.
"Fuck you," Jayden yelled.
Jacob decided that ignoring his constant disrespect would eventually make him stop. "We better hurry."
They finally reached the border after a few hours of searching the area. They didn't want to miss anything that might lead them to Leah and Nessie if they weren't in Italy.
"Before we take off I wanna talk to you," Jacob said as pushed Jayden with his head. "What we're about to do is serious business. Let the ego go because this isn't the time to act like you know everything. I'm your Alpha and you'll do as I say. Do you understand me," Jacob said. He was hoping that he could get through his son's thick skull. The kid was definitely mad at the world and Jacob could be to blame for his horrible attitude. But they were about to approach the royal vampire family and couldn't afford to be distracted by Jayden's shenanigans. "Whatever anger you have towards me doesn't matter now. We're trying to get your mother back home and then you can go back to hating me. Got it?"
Jayden was about to tear into Jacob once again but he thought about his mother. He just wanted to get her back home and then they could leave and never look back. He didn't want her around Jacob anymore, especially with Angela in the way. If the girl was really pregnant, his mother would be devastated. She would probably kill Jacob, which Jayden didn't have a problem with. Hell, he would help her. "Yea whatever. But I'll never like you or respect you. I'm just in this because I love my mom. Fuck you and the rest."
"Whatever floats your boat and helps you sleep at night." Jacob had apologized enough. He had come to the conclusion that his son would hate him regardless of what he did to make it up to him.
"Our flight leaves in a few hours. Carlilse and Emmett went back to get the cars and the tickets," Edward explained. He grabbed Bella's hand only to have her snatch away.
"Good. We're ready," Jacob replied.
….
Leah just wanted to get her hands on Angela. She regretted not attacking her that day when she had the chance. How could a local girl be wrapped in with the Volturi? What were they offering her that she wanted so badly that she turned her back on her imprint?
"Leah? Time to go," Naomi said from the doorway.
Leah wasn't buying that for one second. They were going to let her go that easily? "Go where?"
"We're moving you and Nessie to another location. Oh you thought I meant go as in go free? Ha!"
This would probably be the only chance she would get so she decided to take it. Vibrations traveled through her body but she couldn't phase.
"Nice try mutt," a voice called out.
"I forgot to tell you about Harry. He's our newest gift and probably one of the best. There is no such thing as special powers when him around. He can shut down your powers and cover our scents at the same time. Isn't he wonderful," Naomi cackled. "We're happy to have him. He's almost better than Jane. Now get up so we can go. Unless you would rather endure the shitload of pain that Jane can throw your way."
…
"I can't believe Jacob was talking to you like that," Rachel said, handing Angela a cup of tea.
Andrea sat in the corner, reading a magazine. She didn't feel like partaking in the imprint drama today.
"Leah's got his thoughts all jumbled. He'll come around once this is all over," Angela replied.
"Leah is his wife, what do you expect," Emily snapped. Andrea's head shot up and she sat the magazine on the table. Emily never got snippy with anyone. "I've been watching you for a while Angela. You try to play this holier than thou role but I'm on to you. I heard your conversation on the phone."
"What are you talking about," Angela asked.
"Who were you just talking to on the phone a few minutes ago?"
"That's none of your business. What, you're eavesdropping on my calls now? How about you worry about your husband instead of worrying about my imprint?"
Emily's hands slammed down on the kitchen table. "Who were you talking to? Don't act stupid Angela. You were talking to someone and it sounds like you have something to do with Leah missing."
"I have nothing to do with her missing. I don't even like the bitch so why would I be involved in anything pertaining to her. She is missing because she should have stayed away," Angela yelled defensively.
"You not liking her has everything to do with this! Who were you talking to?!" Emily's face began to turn red as she got closer to Angela.
"Fine! You want the truth, I'll give it to you! I'm working the Volturi to kill off the Cullens and Leah! There you have it! You happy!? Now run and tell Jacob that but I'm sure he wouldn't believe you. I'm the imprint after all and once those strings start pulling in his heart, he'll have no choice but to come back home. Imprint trumps true love anyway. Right Emily," Angela finished with a smirk.
The room fell silent.
I was going to continue but I decided this was a good stopping point. Thanks for the reviews last chapter! Like always, they're greatly appreciated and keep me working. I had a slight break this week so I had time to type out this chapter.
Again, thanks for the support! It really, really means a lot!
