Sorry for the Long gap in chapters but the lack of feedback I got really put me off so I think I will be abandoning this story.
Chapter 14: A New Enemy
For the last 2 years Sakura had to watch all her friends announce engagements while she smiled a hollow smile hating life.
She notices in her thoughts of the last 2 years she has found herself at the Gate of the Village, "Naruto...I hope you are OK wherever you are" she thinks turning around "Please...forgive me" she whispers to herself taking a step.
"Sakura" a familiar voice says causing Sakura to stop in her tracks gasping
"N-Naruto" her eyes where already watering with mixture happiness and sadness, turning around she sees a bouquet of Roses..."Naruto are those for me?" she asks curiously and he nods "Even though the type of flower I hate the most are?" she smiles seeing his face fall.
"Roses" he mumbles and "And my favourite are" she says "Daffodil" his head sinks and she smiles, she now gets a good look at the blonde, he hadn't grown at all, his hair was short spiked similar to when he was a Genin, his Outfit was also the same however he had the Guardian sash around his waist like Asuma Sensei. He had also gotten a bit bulkier losing his lean look but she could tell he was in shape. "You look amazing" he says walking over to her after dropping the Roses "As beautiful as I remember" he adds taking her hands gently "A-Are we still...Boyfriend and Girlfriend?" he asks sounding nervous.
"Yes" she says hugging him "I'm so sorry for how I reacted" she says into his chest, Naruto miles running his fingers through her hair.
"Sorry for leaving" he says kissing the top of her on the top of her head "But I am here for you, and you alone" he says and she blushes "So how about we go someplace and you can catch me up on Whats new?" he suggests and she nods. They walk together in silence not sure what they should say since it's been two years since they last spoke or even saw eachother so it was a little awkward despite the happy reunion.
Sakura filled him in about all the changes with their friends such as Sasuke and Ino living together or Neji and Tenten being engaged, Kakashi and Rin's new baby, Kiba and Hinata's engagement and the Hokage and his wife's son.
"It is hard to believe all this change occurred in just two years" Naruto says smiling finding it hard to believe since it hasn't even been 10 years since they became Genin "Makes me feel like a kid" he jokes and she smiles.
"I know" she looks ahead, she is secretly jealous of all of them since each is moving to the next stage of their relationships while hers and Naruto's was still unsure despite what he said Naruto will always be called upon for dangerous missions maybe he'll join ANBU and disappear like Shino it was all in the air for them.
"So Sasuke and Ino are living together" He says after a moment of silence "And thinking about marriage" he adds with a stiff chuckle "I didn't think he had it in him" he finishes.
"Ino has been over the moon since they moved in" Sakura says "And Sasuke enjoys it too even if he pretends it is normal" she adds "Everyone's growing up" she says trying to gauge his response.
"Well good for them" he says and she mentally sighs not getting the response she desired. "During my time with the Guardian shinobi I met a young married couple" he says which was closer to what she wanted to hear "Looked...final" he adds confusing her.
"So what's new with you?" She asks getting off the subject for now, she was curious to hear of his time in the guardian Shinobi.
"It was amazing" he says "I never felt so challenged and the missions where always S-Class" he says sounding like a child with a new toy "I wish I could tell you about them but I am sworn to secrecy" he explains and she nods understanding. "So what about you I see you have the same thing on your forehead as Tsunade" he says and she nods.
"Yeah...I just finished it a few days ago" she says and he nods "She says I have mastered Medical Ninjutsu now" she says deciding to boast a little.
"Yeah well you look a lot stronger" he admits "And even more beautiful" he says softly touching her cheek with his right thumb causing her to blush.
"I see you cut your hair" she blurts out due to embarrassment "I prefer your hair like that" she adds calming herself as he runs his fingers through his hair.
"Yeah" he says casually "It was getting to be a bother so I cut it" he explains "Time with the Guardian's helped me reflect on the person I am" he states looking up at the stars "The big questions like "What mark will I leave on the world? And who do I want beside me for everything, good and bad" he says looking at her "And that person is you" he smiles and she does to.
"So what are you going to do now?" she asks curiously "Going to your mom?" she adds and he nods.
"Yeah, I wish I could stay out but I need to let her know I am back" he explains and she nods, the two part with a quick kiss. They both could feel that their relationship is strained but the spark was there, he walked through the empty streets of the village noting that nothing has really changed, apart from the Hokage Mountain which Itachi's head on it now. "I wonder what will happen when they run out of room" Naruto wonders with a small smirk. He arrives at Kushina's and knocks on the door, he still has a key but he thought it might be better to knock. The door opened and Naruto is greeted by his mother who hasn't changed a bit.
"Naruto!" she pulls him into a powerful hug "You're back!" she says joyfully as Naruto's face turns blue.
"Ach! My back!" Naruto thinks as she finally breaks her death hold on him "I'm home" he smiles to her and she smiles back bringing him into the House to catch up
The following Morning
Naruto stood across from a sitting Itachi the New Hokage, Itachi's look's haven't change other than the bags under his eyes suggesting he hasn't had much sleep recently, he is dressed in the standard Hokage robes similar to the 3rd only without the hat which was on a hook behind him. Unfortunately for him... his beloved wife needed a break from the baby and with everyone else otherwise engaged the screaming Shisui was in his office which was normally his 'escape' from parenthood but now he was stuck.
"Uh Congratulations" Naruto says nervously as Itachi sighs standing up and taking his son out of the crib.
"So once you have your physical I can put you back on active duty" Itachi explains sitting Shisui on his lap while shaking a bottle of formula before guiding it to the child's mouth and let him do the rest.
"I was actually hoping to be a sensei" Naruto admits suprising Itachi "I mean I promised Kakashi-Sensei and Obito I would" he adds scratching the back of his head.
"Well it so happens there a few prodigies graduating soon" Itachi says pointing to the top draw of a filing cabinet "Obito is among them" he adds as Naruto hands him a folder, Itachi gives Shisui who seems to give a cute giggle when his gaze falls onto the blonde who simply smiles putting him into the crib and almost instantly falls asleep.
Itachi slides two files over "Her name is Yumiko Uchiha" Itachi says "she just turned 11 and is top of her class" he states "His name is Kin Sakumo a medic Nin with advanced chakra control" he continues "And finally Obito Hatake, a 10 year old prodigy who should have graduated years ago" he smirks remember how Obito requested to stay in school as an aid to help slower students get better.
"Perfect" Naruto says "I can work with these" he states and Itachi nods as Shikamaru and Choji walk in, the two are shocked to see the blonde back.
"Hey man welcome home" Shikamaru says smirking as he extends his hand to the blonde who shakes it, in the two years that have passed Shikamaru's spiked ponytail has grown a little but not enough for people who have seen it all the time to notice but Naruto could tell right away, he also had chin stubble and a cigarette tucked behind his left ear clearly taking after his Sensei with the chain smoking.
"Wow you look different" Choji points out as he surprisingly hugs the blonde, Choji had definitely gotten taller, and bulkier, his hair was longer to but like Shikamaru it was hard to tell unless you haven't seen him in awhile.
"Yeah I just got back last night" Naruto explains "Just reporting in to the Hokage" he adds "What have you been up to?" he asks. The two explain about how they are Sensei's now and Naruto tells them of his new team. He soon leaves to head for the hospital so he can get his physical done. Once he reaches he is shown to a room and is sat down, after about 10 minutes Sakura enters.
"So Naruto can you take your shirt and Jacket off?" Sakura asks looking at the file that was forwarded from the capital. Once he is semi naked the first thing that stick out are the new tattoo's Naruto has, he has a 4 tattooed on his left peck, and the Kanji for Soup on his right shoulder which Naruto explained it was an inside joke among the Guardians.
"So do I pass?" Naruto asks with a smirk once the exam has finished "Am I as perfect as you remember?" he asks again leaning in for a kiss and Sakura happily obliges.
"Yep" Sakura smiles writing stuff on a chart "You're in tip top shape" she adds "Now I have other patients but I'll come by later ok?" she asks and Naruto nods zipping up his Jacket and receiving another kiss on the cheek before watching her leave.
Meanwhile
Kakashi and Rin stand side by side at the memorial stone with all the names of the Shinobi who died during the Third Great Shinobi War, the main name for them was Obito, their former teammate whose name they gave their son.
"It's hard to believe so much time has passed since that day" Rin says gently cupping Kakashi's hand "The village, the world has changed so much" she adds and Kakashi nods.
"I just hope he's in a better place" Kakashi says as they hear footsteps approach, turning around they are greeted by Sakura.
"Kakashi-Sensei, Rin-Sensei" Sakura says with a sad smile knowing that this was an important day for them but she needed to tell them the news "Naruto is back" she says and the two smile slightly. "You should let Obito know since he's been dying for this day" she smirks remembering how the young Hatake would walk to the village gates every day the past few weeks believing Naruto was coming home that day.
"So how is he?" Kakashi asks knowing he'd seen his pupil later "Is he happy...are you happy?" Kakashi asks and with a light blush Sakura nods "Good to hear" he smiles looking to his wife "I'm heading home" he says and Rin kisses him on the cheek and watches him leave.
"He must be looking for Naruto" Rin says with a small smile knowing her husband to well "So I take it you and he are still a couple?" she asks and Sakura nods "So if you two are picking up where you left off?" she asks as the two walk through the town.
"I don't know" Sakura admits, they haven't really talked about where they were relationship wise only that they were still a couple "I think he mentioned he was staying with his mom for now but was looking for a place of his own" she explains remembering what they were talking about during his physical.
"Why don't you let him move in with you?" Rin suggests and Sakura stops momentarily blushing. "Come on why are you blushing it's a good idea" Rin smiles with a light giggle at the Medial Nin's reaction.
"I don't know..." Sakura looks to the ground with a slight pout "F-Fine...I'll ask him" she mumbles and Rin pats Sakura's head lightly brushing her former students hair out of her face.
Meanwhile
In the park Naruto had bumped into Sasuke and the young Uchiha wanted to discuss some things. "I have to admit Sasuke I never thought I'd be in such a romantic situation with you" Naruto chuckles "You aren't going to confess to me are you?" he asks and Sasuke sighs.
Sasuke's overall appearance hasn't changed, he now has the Police force on his sleeve and on the back of his Chūnin jacket, he has grown slightly as well and his skin was a little darker, being out with Ino was most likely the reason.
"I know the truth" Sasuke says bluntly confusing the blonde "About your little pest" Sasuke adds just in case they are being watched, Naruto's eyes widen realizing what he means "I learned during the last mission we did before you left" he explains and Naruto nods.
"So that's why they were waiting to seal the 1 tail" Naruto says and Sasuke nods "I have been tracking the Akatsuki and I've learned they have 5 of the tailed beasts" he states and Sasuke's eyes widen. "I have also dealt with 2 members during my time with the Guardians" he adds "Sasori who was also a part of Gaara's capture and a man named Kakuzu" he finishes.
"I take it they tried to capture you" Sasuke says and Naruto adds "If they have 5 they will become aggressive in the hunting of you and the Kazekage" Sasuke states "But they won't get you" Sasuke smirks "I won't let my rival...and best man be taken" he says and Naruto's eyes widen "I'm thinking about asking her to marry me" Sasuke says "But I don't know if i'm rushing it" he admits looking at his oldest friend "Naruto...my dad might be dying" he says almost sounding like there were tears in his voice "It could happen at any moment" he explains "So...i guess I want him to see me get married" he finishes.
After a few moments of silence as Naruto thought about what to say "I wish I could tell you I understand but I don't" Naruto says, true he never really knew his father other than the stories he grew up on "But even so I'm sorry to hear" he finishes and Sasuke nods, it is hard to imagine your parents dying but it came with getting older even if it didn't get any easier. "Well if you do decide to marry her do it but not for that reason" he says and Sasuke looks at him "I mean if you do then every time you look at Ino all you will see is your dad and you'll come to hate her" he explains "If your marriage is associated with his dying" he adds.
"I guess..." they stop talking so gruesomely as they see Neji and Tenten walking towards them but haven't noticed them, Neji is the first to look in their direction and his eyes widen with a small smile to his Fiancée and she turns seeing the blonde who gives a big toothy grin.
"Naruto!" she runs to him giving him a big hug, Naruto wraps a single arm around her still smiling brightly "When did you get back?" she asks breaking the hug as Naruto and Neji shake hands.
"Last night" Naruto replies "Just settling back in and letting everyone know" he adds "Oh and congratulations on the engagement" he says and Tenten smiles showing off her ring proudly and Naruto laughs "Looks like I timed my return perfectly" he states.
"We aren't getting married for another six months" Neji says and receives a good hard elbow to the ribs "I-I'm its six months until the greatest moment of my life" he says with a more joyful emotion despite curling over in pain, the sight causes the two men two sweat drop at the scene before them.
"So Naruto have you talked with Sakura yet?" Tenten asks and Naruto nods, he explains how they are getting back together and then tells them about how he will be a sensei in the next few days. They all spend the next hour or so talking about new things around the village before Neji and Tenten go their separate way from Naruto and Sasuke.
"Sasuke" Naruto says and Sasuke glances at him "Don't tell anyone about the Nine tails" he instructs "I will...when the time is right" he finishes.
"Ok I'll trust you since it's your decision but remember that the Akatsuki will be here sooner rather than later" Sasuke says waving him off going home to Ino.
Meanwhile
"So the Nine Tail's is home" a Hologram with purple and black ripple eyes says to a group of other holograms.
"Yes" one with a whole yellow eye says "He returned not too long ago"a deeper tone comes from the same hologram.
"So what should we do?" a hologram with beady eyes asks "Should we get him or the one tail?" he asks
"We go for the Nine tail's" a blue eyed hologram says "I owe him for my partner hm!" he adds crossing his arms.
"i think we should go for the one tail" a hologram with a spiral mask says "I mean the Village hidden in the cloud will most likely have the 8 tail under heavy guard and while the Nine tail's is in the village with all those Sharingan users they will be the hardest to get" he explains.
"Shut it Tobi!" the blued eyed Hologram yells "I don't care about the Uchiha clan they will fall to my art!" he declares.
"How quickly you forget Deidara" the beady eyed one says as a smirk forms "It was a single Uchiha brat who bested you last time you went looking for the Nine Tails" he says and Deidara growls "So how will you beat an entire clan including one which has risen to Hokage?" he asks.
"Enough" the Purple eyed one ends the dispute "We will go after the Nine Tail's last" he says and Deidara growls but agrees "Kisame, Tobi and Deidara will go to the Hidden Cloud to retrieve the Eight Tails while Hidan and Zetsu go for the One Tail" he instructs "Once we have them both we can lay siege to the Hidden Leaf village with all of the other tailed beasts as our weapon" he finishes and the holograms fade.
_Meanwhile_
Sakura and Naruto had met up, Sakura wanted to bring Naruto over to ask him to move in. She was so nervous since she has never done anything like this before and she was blushing madly in her mind, 'Their home' it sounded weird "I'll talk to you later I need to pick some things up for dinner since my boyfriend is a picky eater" or "My boyfriend is cooking us dinner tonight so I want to get home fast!" she thinks to herself playing the scenarios off in her head.
"So this is where you live now?" Naruto asks looking around, Sakura was one of the few who bought a new apartment in the rejuvenated Namikaze compound and it looked like a decedent size. However it was very bland, it had a few pictures on the wall of her parents their team photo and a picture of the two on a date, the walls where still same white the builder painted.
"Yeah I know it's not much but I have been so focused on my work" she explains setting a cup of tea down in front of the blonde.
"What have you been working on?" he asks curiously sipping on the jasmine scented tea, it tasted amazing and he wasn't much of a tea drinker.
"Oh well since I mastered Tsunade's best Medical Ninjutsu I have been studying the First Hokage's Medical Ninjutsu" she explains.
"I didn't know the first was a medic" Naruto admits though the only thing he did know was that the First had a Wood style Kekkei Genkai.
"He was the strongest Medical Shinobi ever" Sakura says "He could heal anyone without weaving signs" she says in clear admiration "I have been trying to create my own Jutsu" she adds and Naruto smiles.
"I know you will succeed" he says and she smiles standing up "Perhaps while you're doing that I could paint your walls and help this place feel more like a home" he suggests and she perks up slightly since that was the perfect ice breaker.
"About that" she mumbles getting his attention as she walks into the kitchen with the empty cups "I was thinking...you could move in" she says not facing him due to her huge blush which made her feel silly. "I mean I know everyone else is moving up to the next level but!" she stops feeling Naruto's arms wrap around her shoulders from behind.
"Sakura..." he whispers
