Epilogue
The fireplace crackled as the Summer Lady reclined in the armchair.
Opposite her, her host smiled. "Heather," he said. "I was wondering when you'd turn up again."
"The pleasure is mine, Lord Hades," she said.
"To what do I owe this…surprise?"
Heather smiled at him over her teacup. "A trifling matter, my lord. The Summer Court wish to ask a favour. Returned at your discretion, naturally."
Hades chuckled. "A high offer indeed, for the fae. Tell me, what would you ask of us?"
"Not 'us'," the Summer Lady said. "You. We have a prisoner, and we would like her contained by the best."
She handed him a small wooden carving. A wolf's head, made of black wood and covered by glowing red runes.
"You have a deal," the Lord of the underworld said, and took the totem.
Heather smiled at him and went back to drinking her tea.
"I would ask a question," Hades said. "Not as a favour, but out of interest. Who will be the new Summer Knight?"
"Ah," she said, "now that would be telling." She smirked and took another sip of tea.
Something changed in Hades' face, but she couldn't tell what. "Thank you for the favour," he said, "I'll be sure to use it wisely." He stood up. "I am sure Cerberus can see you to the door when you wish to leave."
He walked off to put the Morrigan in the deepest, most ironically painful place of torment he could find for her.
The Summer Lady kept drinking her tea and smiling.
The two INTERPOL agents stood beside the crater in the Belgian field, scratching their chins as they looked down at the damaged locomotive.
"Teenagers?" suggested one.
The other shrugged. "Eh, whatever."
JVY SPUWVJK GURR LYJILP.
The End.
AN:
I couldn't have done all this without my co-author, E350, or you, my readers. Seriously, you've made it all worthwhile.
I'm just a fanboy with an idea - I'm not a fanfiction great, like Eliezer Yudkowsky, or an innovative creator, like Alex Hirsch or Jim Butcher (whose imaginations I have borrowed). But you keep telling me that I'm not doing too badly, and that means the world to me.
I'm pleased to tell you all that I have started on a new project: a spin-off about Sam's adventures as the Summer Knight, which will become a series if it's popular enough. There is also a sequel in the works for this fic, but it's still in development and no work is planned until July.
Again, thank you all for reading, and I hope you had as much fun reading it as we had writing it.
