Chapter Thirteen: You In My Arms, Forever
"My love, you're the reason I live to breathe, the passion I long to see, is you in my arms, forever." - My Love, by Random.
-----------previously, on Wrong Person:------- ----------
Naruto glanced around at the table he was at. Yugito sat on his left, and Killer Bee sat on his right, along with his brother. And the two brothers seemed slightly peeved. That might have been because of a comment Yugito had made concerning Naruto going on a date with her before her latest mission.
No one's going to hurt me, she says. Bull shit.
------------and now, the thrilling...continuation? Sure, why not?--------------- ----------
"So," said the Raikage in a deep and menacing voice, "tell me and your brother about yourself, Naruto-san."
Naruto's hand twitched at the irritation he felt at the hated suffix, but since it was the Raikage, who looked like he could beat the blond male up for several hours without breaking a sweat, the Namikaze prudently decided to let the matter slide.
Naruto smiled charmingly at the leader of Kumogakure, "There's not much to tell, Raikage-dono. I grew up in Konoha and was a ninja for several years before my grandfather discovered I was alive, and had me come back to the capital to stay with him."
Killer Bee crossed his arms over his chest in order to look slightly more intimidating than he usually did, "And what rank did you attain before you became the Crown Prince, Naruto-san?"
Naruto's cheek muscle twitched this time, instead of his hand. 'They're doing it on purpose!' though Naruto, 'They've got to be! They're trying to tick me off in order for me to lash out and embarrass myself in front of both them and Yugito! That's the only explanation!' Apparently, Naruto had forgotten that sometimes people usually use suffixes to show respect or admiration, not to cause irritation like his family and friends did.
Naruto smiled once again, not fooling anyone by the way, and said, "Well, I did become a genin of the Leaf, and I did take the chuunin exams on one occasion, but..."
The Raikage raised a massive eyebrow, "But what?"
Naruto had to fight down the urge to fidget where he sat, "Well, during my first chuunin exam, Orochimaru attacked Konoha, and then I missed a whole bunch of opportunities due to training with Jiraiya and fighting against Akatsuki. Once everything settled down, and opportunities began to open up, Grandfather showed up, so I was never able to advance in rank during my time as a ninja."
The Raikage grunted, "Harummph! Are you still a ninja, Naruto-san?" Naruto shook his head. "And why not? I was under the impression that you sparred with Yugito."
Naruto's answering smile was strained, "Due to...private medical reasons, I am unable to due much else with my ninja abilities except spar once a week."
Bee snorted, "Private medical reasons? That sounds like a serious loud of bull." He smirked, "And believe me, I know bull."
Yugito didn't know if she should sigh or smack Bee upside the head for saying what he had just said. "It's private, Bee."
Bee nodded sagely, "I'm sure it is. But what about the fact that you two are dating?"
Both blonds immediately blushed and began to stutter slightly. The two older men glanced at each other in amusement at this. Yugito was actually embarrassed about something. The last time she had been this embarrassed was when she had found that stray kitten and had been afraid to tell her 'uncles' because she thought they would disapprove.
Maybe, and just maybe, this punk kid could be trusted...somewhat with Yugito.
And judging by how easily the two blonds became embarrassed when asked about their relationship, they'd be fun as hell to tease.
The Raikage smirked as he shifted his body weight forward slightly, looking directly at Yugito. "So, have you two decided whether to do a Spring or a Summer ceremony?"
Bee rubbed his chin in thought, "But, brother, I think Yugito would look more beautiful during a fall ceremony, myself."
The Raikage nodded sagely, "You have a point, dear brother. Especially if the ceremony would take place back in Lightning."
Bee smiled and nodded, "Ah yes, especially in that valley." He placed a hand over his heart in a dramatic fashion, "The leaves of the trees turning those brilliant shades, the audience seated comfortably in the glades, children playing with the soft and green blades, of grass as a woman's name is changed."
Naruto and Yugito just stared at each other. "Do you know what the crap they're talking about Yugito?"
Yugito shook her head, "Nope. Not at all."
Naruto scratched his chin, "I mean, really, what kind of ceremony could they be talking about? One that takes place before an audience, where a woman's....name....is...."
Yugito tilted her head to the side in a cute manner as she blinked in confusion, "A woman's name is?"
"Think, Yugito, what kind of ceremony happens in front of an audience of people just so a woman's name can be changed?"
Yugito thought for a moment or two, her cheek resting on the palm of her hand. Fairly soon though, she figured it out and blushed slightly. "A marriage ceremony..."
Needless to say, the rest of the dinner conversation consisted of two highly amused brothers teasing and the mortified responses of two young blond jinchuurikis.
----------- -------------- ------------
Naruto sighed as he and Yugito finally had some more alone time together, albeit a leisurely stroll around the wooded interior gardens of the palace.
Yugito glanced at the Crown Prince, "What's the matter, Naruto? You sound tired."
Naruto gave Yugito a surly glance out of his left eye, "And you aren't? Those two grilled us and teased us for over an hour." Naruto groaned and rubbed his neck in an attempt to massage it. "I think I'd rather deal with some sort of drastic foreign political issue than be stuck in a room with those two when they're feeling amused at me and my situation."
Yugito stopped in mid stride, watching Naruto walk away from her. "And what situation is that?"
Naruto glanced back towards the Kumo nin and smiled, "That I'm dating their adoptive niece, of course. The most beautiful woman I've ever met."
Yugito blushed furiously at his comment. "H-how can you just say something like that?" she asked incredulously.
Naruto smirked as he made his way over towards the other blond. "Because," he said as he gently held her chin in his hand, "it's the truth. And Crown Prince's should always go out of their way to tell the truth, especially to high and mighty foreign diplomats like yourself."
Yugito smiled lightly as she reached out and held the hand that was touching her cheek, "Now I know that you're just sucking up."
Naruto's smirk faded into a gentle smile, "And why would I suck up?"
"I can think of a couple reasons..."
"Well," said Naruto, "I'm not a big fan of guessing games, so I'll give you a hint. It's so you don't beat me up."
Yugito's expression grew puzzled, "And why would I beat you up, young Prince?"
"It depends," he replied, "whether you consider this," it was here he gently leaned towards the kunoichi and planted a chaste kiss on her lips, "a beatable offense or not."
Yugito melted against the young blond man, wrapping her arms around him as she showed him her answering response.
This moment would have been perfect, if it hadn't been interrupted by a frantic messenger who was running towards them, screaming "Naruto-sama! Naruto-sama!" over and over again until he was panting as he knelt before his lord.
Naruto chuckled slightly, "Calm down, Kyoya. What's the emergency this time?"
The messenger bowed his head low to the ground, "I'm sorry, Naruto-sama. It appears an assassin sneaked into the Fire Lord's chambers and murdered him in his sleep. Forgive us for failing you, Naruto-sama."
Naruto's eyes widened in shock, his hands beginning to tremble slightly, before his eyes narrowed dangerously and his posture straightened out. "Do not ask for forgiveness, Kyoya, there is no need. It is not your fault. But I need your help now."
"Your wish is my command, Naruto-sama."
"I need you to find Uchiha Sasuke, the Hokage of Konoha. Tell him we have an emergency, and that we are on high alert. Tell him I will leave matters of security up to him. Then I want you to place the remaining members of my grandfather's personal guard in a place where they can protect my grandmother. I'm counting on you, Messenger Kyoya."
"As you wish, Naruto-sama."
As Yugito watched the blond Fire Daimyo give out commands with a level head and a stoic calmness, she wondered when he was going to allow himself to grieve. And she wondered, not for the first time, if it had been an entirely wise choice to begin to fall in love with him.
