Hermione

Hermione woke up early the next morning and went down to the entrance hall where Rowena had told her to meet her. As she waited she thought about what Rowena had said about her learning wand making.

She was so excited she immediately started going through the wand cores she had learnt when she asked Ollivander all those years ago. She remembered the cores that Ollivander used were Unicorn hair, Dragon heartstring and Phoenix feather. But she had also heard of Veela hair, Kneazle whiskers and Thestral tail hair.

Just as she was starting to think about the different woods Rowena came round the corner.

'I have heard you muttering my raven. You must relax. What I am going to teach you will be slightly different but do not get stressed. Knowing as much as you can isn't the most important thing. Follow me.'

Hermione blushed slightly as she thought of her first years in the magical world, always telling people what to do and trying to cram in as much as possible, but followed Rowena.

Rowena led her upstairs into a small room that was the same size as a normal study. On the walls were shelves which held large wooden boxes, labelled in a foreign language. There was a large desk which had blueprints and drawings and sketches and in the back of the room were numerous stands holding wands of all shapes and sizes.

Hermione quickly closed her mouth that had dropped as she tried to look at everything at once. She sat down in the chair that Ravenclaw gestured to and then looked her in the eyes.

'So young raven, over the first part of your stay here we will be learning wand making. Now I noticed yesterday that you all carry two wands, one basic wand and one tuned to your magic. Now as you know a wand is a magic supporter. It helps young wizards focus their magic.

Now, we will be training wandlessly but the wands that you are going to learn to make can not only focus magic, but it can also store some away, increase it and replenish it.

Wand making is a beautiful art that takes time and effort and I just know you will work hard. The other part of this is Staff making which you will also learn how to do. Staffs are not only a place to keep your wand but when you put your wand in them they magnify the power and cannot be taken or summoned. They can also be used as a physical weapon.

Before we start is there anything you already know that I need to go over or skip?'

'Well,' said Hermione, 'When I went to Ollivander's to get my first wand he kept saying 'The wand chooses the wizard.' I was wondering to what extent that is true?'

'That is true as such but what you need to remember is that wands are not alive. They cannot think for themselves so really can't choose a witch or wizard to go with. But it is true that the cores and the wood when bound together create something that is always tuned to a certain witch or wizard.

A magical person's core always develops in a way that there is always a core that is right for them. Since Ollivander only uses three cores, sometimes the wands are not the perfect match. The wands we are going to create for you and your friends will be exactly the right one.'

'Now we are on the subject of cores, how many cores does a staff have?' asked Hermione.

'It changes.' Said Rowena, 'Depending on the witch or wizard it can range from four to around seven. Seven is an extremely powerful magic number and only the strongest of magical would have that many.

To begin I am going to teach you how to create a wand that is suited to yourself. As this is your first wand you will make another one when you know what to do which will be your perfect wand. Then you will make wands for all the other heirs and Sirius. Before you leave you will receive several of each wand cores and woods. With these you will make wands for those people you believe worthy.'

Hermione quickly jotted down some notes about what Rowena had said and then looked back at her. Rowena got up from her seat and went over to the shelves on the right hand side. She pulled down four boxes and put them on the desk. She then did the same with boxes from the other side.

'I have narrowed down the selection for you. To begin finding the perfect materials you have to base it on characteristics. Each of these boxes represents you in my opinion. Intelligent, Loving, Strong and Selfless.'

Rowena then took a core form each of the boxes and put them on the table. The cores were all in their own glass box and were suspended with magic so it could not be contaminated.

'For the next part you have to find the perfect core within that person. To do this you have to reach into your soul. This can be tricky as what you are used to doing is entering your mind and heart. Your heart is your core. To do this, start by going to your core and finding your magical signature. Once you have found it follow it. It will lead you to your perfect core.

The answers come in different ways but I expect, for someone like you it will come in the form of a riddle. Good luck.'

(Hermione's Soul Search)

Hermione entered into the large area which held her core. She walked around it several times and then noticed an extra bubble on the side. Ignoring that she looked into her core. She felt like she was looking into a glass ball but kept searching until she found her magical signature. She entered into it and soon found herself in a hallway with many doors.

Suddenly, a silvery lioness, exactly like her animagus, popped out. She immediately followed it until it led her into a room at the far end of the hallway. Once inside the door slammed and a mysterious voice appeared.

'I reside in all things living, but never can be seen; I decide the final judgement, and no glamour can hide me. What am I?'

Hermione muttered to herself as she worked out the answer. Several times she almost said something but she held herself back. Finally she came to a final answer.

'The answer is the soul.'

'Correct, next. I fly high above the earth, yet I hunt upon the ground; I prefer the dark to light, but I'm only found by sound. What am I?'

'The answer is an owl.'

'Correct, finally. I help souls soar, I weigh close to naught; I'm used for writing, yet have no claws. What am I?'

This final one took the longest amount of time for Hermione. She muttered to herself as she pondered the answer. Every time she got close it would always end with a sigh of frustration. Finally, she snapped her fingers.

'A feather!'

'Correct.'

Suddenly Hermione was yanked back to reality and was back facing Rowena.

'Have you found the answer young raven?'

'I believe I have. Although I have never heard of such a creature I believe my core is a Soul Owl Feather.'

'Wonderful! That core is one of the rarest yet strongest cores. It helps with increasing your magic, releasing full potential and controlling emotions. This wand will share a very personal connection with you and will serve you well. Now the wood.'

Rowena brought down only three boxes this time and set them on the desk.

'Don't worry; you don't have to do the same thing again. Each magical signature connects with a wood that will be very obvious. If you know someone's magical signature the wood will be obvious.'

Hermione nodded and quickly checked her magical signature. She then looked at the three woods and held a branch of each in her hand. The first two did nothing but the last one swelled in her magic. She picked that out and put it next to her core.

'That is elder wood. This wood is one of the strongest woods. It represents new life and death and the transformation in between. It will be good for healing and wards.'

'Lastly comes a gem. Ollivander doesn't use gems but it is an essential in my wands. These will not only store magic that you can use later on but will also help you find your centre of magic which is very important when performing old or powerful spells.

For this you will need to put a little bit of your magic into each gem. If it is wrong it will just die out, if it is the right gem the magic will surge and flash back out.'

Rowena put six large gems in front of Hermione. There was a ruby, an azurite, a calcite, and emerald, a sapphire and a pearl. Rowena explained that these were the only gems with enough magical energy to be used in a wand.

Hermione quickly pushed a bit of magic into each of the gems. She watched as the magic fizzed out of all of them but the ruby.

'Excellent! Rubies enhance motivation, vitalize the whole body and mind and encourage love and passion. This will be an excellent wand for you. Now, I'm going to teach you how to create the wand.'

Rowena pulled out three random and common items and placed them in front of her. She put the core and the wood next to each other and the small part of the gem at the bottom. She then pushed out tendrils of magic towards the three items and wrapped it around them. She then squeezed her magic tight and they both watched as the items came together, the wood wrapping around the core, the magic of the core stretching out to fill the hollow wood and the gem attaching itself to the end.

Hermione looked at the wand in awe.

Hermione then spent the rest of the day trying to learn how to conduct her magic to combine all the elements together and bind them with her magic. By the end of the day Hermione had managed to extend her magic far enough out to reach the wand items but couldn't join them together.

Hermione started to get really frustrated.

'Aarhh! Why can't I do it! It can't be that hard!' said Hermione.

'Hermione my little raven. You can't expect to get it on your first try. It took me years to perfect it to that standard. I think the amount of times you have been around those not as intelligent and have started to expect everything you do to be perfect.

Don't look at your work from others eyes. You need to evaluate your own work and set your own goals. That was amazing for a first try. Do not put yourself down because you couldn't perfect a complex and ancient magic on your first try.' Said Rowena.

'Ok. I guess you're right. I've just been so frustrated with myself after my parents...passed.' Hermione bit back a sob as she remembered what had happened.

'Hermione my child, do you want to put your memories into a pensive and watch them back? It will help you overcome all the emotions that are bubbling at the surface. It will also help you clear your mind and concentrate.'

'Yes please. Sorry to interrupt the lesson Rowena.'

'Don't worry my child. Everyone has things in their life that are hard to un-see. By putting them in a pensive, you still have them but they do not affect you as much.'

Rowena stood up and walked to the back of her study. After placing her wand in the allocated lock a small door opened from the wall and the pensive flew out and hovered above her desk. She then pulled out two small vials and handed them to Hermione.

Hermione raised her wand to her head and very slowly began pushing one memory from her mind into her wand. She then dragged it away and placed into one of the vials. She did that once more and then watched as Rowena poured them into the pensive. They held hands and both dived in.

When they reappeared they were in Hermione's house, her parents alive, on the sofa in the living room. Hermione sobbed as she saw them watching television without a care in the world. She saw herself walking out the front door on the way to the library and they both followed her out.

Once they arrived at the library the memory suddenly stopped and fast forwarded itself until the moment when Hermione in the memory started walking out the door. On the way back Hermione asked Rowena what had happened.

'Because the main focus of this memory is what happened when your parents died it focuses on that. Also the fact that I don't think even you could remember exactly what you did in the library for two and a half hours.'

As soon as they arrived back Hermione ran in after her memory self. She saw three death eaters in her living room. One of them was standing over her mother's dead body and two of them were holding her father under the cruciatus. She sobbed into her hands as she watched her father's body convulse under the horrible curse.

Surprisingly it was another ten or so seconds before her father snapped. As soon as he was gone Hermione watched as the death eaters ran upstairs obviously trying to find her. They searched for about two minutes before apparating out. Hermione then watched her memory self run upstairs crying over the loss of her beloved parents.

The memory swirled and stopped in Potter manor. It was the day of the funeral. She watched herself wakeup on the couch and confirm her surroundings. She crept out of the living room and towards the front door. She left hastily but not before putting on a big, long coat with a large hood. She put up the hood and walked outside.

Looking around she walked down the path until she could no longer feel the wards around her. Sticking up her right hand she called the knight bus. She quickly pulled some coins out the coat pocket, promising to pay Harry back, and got on the knight bus. Hermione and Rowena quickly followed.

After getting off at the graveyard site she saw a very small funeral being held. There were people like neighbours, the librarian and the baker from down the street. All of them had been close with her parents. Memory Hermione slipped in the back of the group and watched the service.

Tears were running down both memory and real Hermione's faces by the end of the surface. Memory Hermione hung back at the end of the service and waited for the crowd to clear. As soon as everyone had left she ran forward and fell to her knees on their graves.

'Why! Why did you have to go! It's all my fault. I should have known not to go out on my own when there is a war on. I'm the only one who can..c..could protect you! You both had such a long life ahead of you. You wanted to travel, to see the world. You wanted to retire in France and open a quaint little bookshop and live in a cute cottage down the road from a bakery where you could get fresh bread every day. You've done nothing but protect me from bullies and all the things that scared me, why couldn't, just this once, why couldn't I protect you!'

Hermione watched as the memory swirled once more and they were yanked back to reality. Hermione was silent but was crying heavily, tears streaming down her pale face.

'Hermione, my raven. I am so sorry.' Rowena said before embracing Hermione in a hug. Hermione crawled into her lap, relishing in the chance to once more feel like a child.

'Shh, sh. It's going to be alright. I know it's hard I do. Hermione my dearest one no-one should have to go through that, let alone someone so young. Your parents will be at peace now and will watch over you. You are not alone even though they are gone. They will be with you always.'

'Thank you,' Hermione said, sitting back down on her seat. 'I just hate being weak. I need to be strong for Harry. He can't win the war if he's dragging me around.'

'Hermione you aren't weak. To go through all that it takes strength beyond compare.' Whispered Rowena.

'Thanks. I know your just saying it to make me feel better though.' Said Hermione. Suddenly, Rowena stood up and strode out the room. Hermione waited for about five minutes before the door opened once more. Thinking it was Rowena she looked round, ready to ask where she had gone.

When she turned around she saw Harry standing at the door, watching her with his bright green eyes. Hermione could almost feel his gaze on her pale face and on the tears that continued to flow.

'Hermione.' He said, walking towards her. She closed her eyes thinking he was going to tell her to stop being silly and to get a grip. That he couldn't afford to be around someone so weak and puny.

Instead, he did something completely unexpected. He swooped her up into his arms and sat down, comforting her. Hermione quickly got over her shock and instead took to crying into his shoulder.

'I'm sorry Harry, I'll just go home. I'm obviously not good enough to help you fight Voldemort.'

'Oh 'Mione. If I didn't know I would think you were mentally damaged. Prepare yourself, this speech is going to be a good one.' He said, trying to lift the atmosphere.

'You are the strongest person I know. Stronger that Sirius, Dumbledore even Voldemort. You have done what every person has failed to do. You have looked past the outside and embraced the inside. Even though you knew about the Boy-Who-Lived you still saw me as Harry. No-one else ever did that. Ron saw me as the Famous Harry Potter. Sirius sees me as James and Lily's son. Dumbledore sees me as his golden boy and Voldemort sees me as an enemy.

Neville and Luna have learnt to but you, you did it from the beginning. It takes a really strong person not to be influenced by others. Not to sway and do it the easy way. Not to succumb to peer pressure. The entire time you have been at Hogwarts you have studied hard, worked hard yet still been the most amazing wonderful friend.

I know for a fact that if it wasn't for you I would have been expelled or killed at least five times! Not only that but with all this training you are also physically strong as well.

I don't ever want you doubting yourself again Hermione. Because you are the most amazing person I know. And I couldn't live without you.'

Hermione looked up at him. She looked into his emerald eyes and was just overwhelmed with love and comfort.

'What was that?' asked Hermione.

'Salazar taught me how to use my mind and my Occlumency to project emotions. He did it to me and it helped me feel better. I thought you needed it.' Said Harry.

'Thanks Harry.' She said. No more was said. They just stayed like that, Hermione in his arms enjoying each other's comfort. It was only when Rowena walked in that they moved.

She walked in through the door and they sprang apart, blushing madly. Rowena just smiled and gave them both a hug.

'It's time for dinner both of you. Your friends are already in the great hall.' She said.

'We've been here that long!' they both said before blushing again. 'Sorry I interrupted your lesson.' Said Harry.

'Don't worry my boy,' said Rowena, 'Hermione had already made good process for one day. We will continue tomorrow.'

They all walked down to the great hall and ate their dinner. Harry and Hermione sat next to each, her head on his shoulder. No-one said anything but Luna and Neville shared a knowing look. They all retired for bed and had a good night's rest.

For the next week or so Hermione continued to study wandlore. The two vials with her memories in were hidden at the bottom of her bag and very nearly forgotten about. As well as learning, trying and practising combining wand items together to make fully functional wands she also spent lots of time in Rowena's personal library reading and studying each core, wood and gem and recording and learning all their properties.

By the end of the week she could very easily find the perfect items associated with each person, find the items listed, name all the properties and combine them into the perfect wand.

Next they moved onto duelling, battling and weapons. Hermione and Rowena walked into the great hall that had been cleared.

'First, let's start with your stamina. Start by running around this hall. Different people have different methods but we will start by just running. I know it will be hard but if you just keep running your stamina will improve. Then we will move onto you running and me shooting spells, curses and hexes at you. That stage will be no magic, just dodging. Then we advance onto you using magic and then just full on duelling. This is how we, the founders trained as friends when we were younger.'

So Hermione started running around the hall and just kept running around and around. This lasted for almost the entire day. She took breaks for food, drink and to just catch her breath but she mainly paced herself.

The next day Hermione woke up early and started doing some stretches and started running. She also practised her sprinting, knowing that if a Death Eater was chasing her, pacing herself and jogging wasn't going to help her.

Soon Rowena walked in and smiled at seeing Hermione up and practising early. She let Hermione continue for another ten, fifteen minutes before calling her over.

'Today we will continue what we were doing yesterday but we will move onto your agility and dodging half way through.'

Up until lunchtime Hermione continued with what she was doing yesterday. After lunch Rowena told Hermione to stand at the other end of the room and close her eyes.

'I'm going to shoot a harmless spell at you and I want you to try and feel the presence and the energy of the spell.'

Hermione nodded her head and relaxed. Rowena then shot a tickling spell at her. The first few times Hermione couldn't feel anything and was immediately shot by the spell. After about seven or eight times Hermione started to notice the magical energy around her and twitched, but was too slow to dodge out the way.

It was a while before Hermione even started to notice it soon enough to dodge and even then the spell often skimmed and still affected her. They left it at the end of the day with her being able to notice the magic but not reacting fast enough.

It took another few days before Hermione could completely dodge Rowena's spell, even the offensive ones. Rowena then got Hermione to start running around the room as she shot spells at her.

This continued until Hermione could dodge all her spell and fire some of her own, even hitting Rowena.

The next morning Hermione woke up at 5:30 on Rowena's request. She got ready for the day and walked down to the edge of the forest. Hermione didn't know what was happening exactly, all she knew was that Rowena was going to perform a ritual upon her.

She met Rowena at the edge of the forest.

'Good morning my little Raven. Did you sleep well?' Rowena asked. 'I can guess that you are almost bursting inside at the moment wanting to ask what is going on. First, I want you to delve into your core, not unlike what you do for wand making. This time, I want you to look even closer.'

Hermione looked into her core but was immediately puzzled. All she could see was her normal core. She was about to return when she saw something small on one side of her magical core. She moved closer and looked at it carefully.

Suddenly, the lump on the side swelled and showed it to her in full glory. She quickly identified it as Rowena's magical signature. She pulled herself back out and looked at Rowena.

'There is an increase of magic in bubble form on the side of my core with your magical signature. What is it?'

'Congratulations on finding that my child. That is a part of my magic that is granted to you as the rightful heir to me. We call it the founders magic. That is why we are doing this ritual. We are going to be unlocking that magic and all the extra things that come with it.'

'Oh ok. But why are we only doing it now? Why not at the beginning of our visit?'

'Because, even though wand making and all your friend's subjects are studied by others in the world, the way you have been taught is very specific to us. You need at least some experience with our magic before we do this otherwise your core will reject the new magic.' Rowena said.

'It is time Hermione. I want you to lie face up with your hands down by your sides. Once ready I will ask you a few questions which you will need to answer accordingly. Then I will need you to enter your mind and go towards that extra bit on your core. As I am chanting bits of it will fly off. It is your job to put them back into your core. Be gentle but strong.'

Hermione nodded and got into position. She prepared herself and nodded towards Rowena.

'Do you, Hermione Granger, Rightful and Magical heir to me, Rowena Ravenclaw, accept the ancient magic that comes from the soul?'

'I do.'

'Will you harness the magic and use it for only good goals and purpose?'

'I will.'

'Will you accept the magic and let it join forces with your own core and release the imprisoned powers?'

'I will.'

'Now, dive into your soul, find your core and connect the two together.'

Hermione ventured into her mind and did what she was told. She found her core and stood by, ready to catch the pieces of Rowena's magic. Amazingly she could hear everything from around her actual body. She heard Rowena chanting in a foreign language.

'spiritu pollere, sine anima, aedificare justo, virtutis incrementum, motus in auxilium, et cor ligaveris'

Hermione immediately saw parts of the extra magic start flying off. She quickly grabbed them and pushed them into her own core. Even though it was only in her mind the magic hurt her fingers. After about five minutes she felt a burning deep inside her chest, coming from her hands. The pain was red hot yet she still continued to push Rowena's magic into her own.

After about another two minutes the extra magic finished and the pain ebbed away. Hermione pulled out her mind and opened her eyes.

'You have done extremely well my raven. I am sorry that I did not warn you about the pain. You will spend today resting. Tomorrow we will use this new power to start something new.'

The next day Hermione woke up feeling amazing. She could feel the magic inside her without even going inside her mind. She felt energized and refreshed. She got ready and went downstairs, expecting to meet Rowena in the hall. Instead she found her outside.

'Good morning my child. How are you feeling?' Rowena asked.

'I feel amazing! I feel like I could fly! Without a broom!'

Rowena laughed and then said, 'what a coincidence that you would say that since depending on how quick you grasp today's lesson, we might actually be doing that soon.'

Hermione stared at Rowena with a look of disbelief. How on earth?

'Myself and the other founders spent years learning how to use our magic and transform ourselves into magical creatures. We are also Animagi but we have managed to harness our magic into such a precise way that we can transform into the magical creature that is best suited to us. We are giving you a head start.

You will have felt a new power and energy this morning from the ritual we did. Now, this next part of training requires you to find that specific type of magic that comes from deep inside you. Because my magic has connected with yours you should be able to find it pretty easily.

What you are looking for is an animalistic magic. Once you find it I want you to let it surround you and follow its path.'

Hermione nodded her head and started searching. She found it hard to come to her senses with a different type of magic and spent ages trying to find it. She searched high and low until she found a mysterious form of magic gliding around.

She walked into it and gasped as she felt Rowena's raw power surround her. She desperately tried to hold on to it as she felt her physical body transform. She slipped back to reality and felt her core and form change into that of an animal.

She looked down and jumped in surprise at the sight that awaited her. She was looking down at the body of a horse! She looked back at Rowena in amazement.

'Congratulations my child. You have done that exceedingly well. Have you guessed what you are yet? Remember you are a magical creature.'

Hermione looked at herself again but this time more closely. She was very tall and proud and was a shimmering white. She flicked her head back and forth and felt her mane swish either side of her face. She then brought her arms towards her and was surprised at their weight. Surprised, she realised that her arms were wings.

'I'm a Pegasus!' Hermione exclaimed in delight. She had read all about them and found them to be beautiful and elegant creatures.

'Correct my raven. I am also a Pegasus although my fur is a light brown, not unlike your human hair colour. We will start by learning balance then walking, trotting, running and finally flying.'

Five days later, two Pegasus could be seen flying over the forest.

A/N Okay okay I'm sorry. I know I haven't uploaded in years (kindof) but I've been really busy. Now that i'm back at school i have less time than ever because my schedule is always so busy. I really appreciate the support I'm gatting and one of my friends, imaginationcelebration, constantly telling me WRITE! Hope you like and I will try to get through this training bit so we can get onto the really exciting stuff.

Love you all!

P.S. Does anyone know anybody who is a really good beta that would be happy to look through my work before I upload it. They would have to be quite good but I'm not too fussy. Thanks guys.
