A N 2: Only three chapter to end the Bloody Flashback. Rejoice, peasants!
A N 3: Three stories in a day, guys! Shorts ones, sure, but always three!
Marrrrr and Anna were camping in a dark, empty room, a smashed chair was burning in front of them, giving them few heat and fewer light.
He was lying on his back on the marble floor, his eyes closed, as she was keeping shooting him apprehensive looks from her sit near the fire.
"See something you like?" He teased her, his eyes still closed.
She diverted her gaze, blushing hard.
"Your… Your crossbows. They're very pretty."
He smirked, opening his eyes and looking at her.
"Gods, Britta would have big time with that sentence…"
She grimaced, "… Tell me about it…"
His smirk widened, "So, why were you looking at my… Crossbows?"
She bit her lower lip, "Well, I…" Her mind ran all of her available options, "… I wanted to… take lessons… in using them."
"I would like to give you… Practical lessons…" He said with a teasing tone, loving how her cheeks became redder, "… But I'm afraid that you would need to use another pair. Nobody touches Black and Berry except me…"
She laughed, "Black and Berry? Seriously?"
He scoffed, "Ebony and Ivory where already taken…"
"You gave names to your Crossbows and not to your Pegasus?" She asked with a light tone.
He grunted, casting his gaze down.
Realization hit her, "Dear gods, you gave him a name!"
"N-no!" He hurriedly said.
But it was too late.
She began squealing, "Whatwasit-whatwasit-whatwasit-whatwa…?"
"It's not important…" He said with an hint of sadness, "… He's dead now."
Anna stopped squealing, "Oh… Sorry."
"See, that was why I didn't want to name him in the first place…" He said with a somber tone, "… Names give importance to things. They gave importance to people. And we're all sadder once they're gone."
She gave him an affectionate look, "That's why you don't let anyone know your real name…"
He looked at her, startled, "How…?"
"Britta." She explained
He scoffed, "Of course."
He tried to sit straight.
He grunted in pain.
"You should let me check that wound…"
He scoffed. "'Tis but a scratch, I can wait for Abed and his Red Potions…"
She looked back at him with her formidable face.
"Marrrrr, you just took a probably rusty goblin sword in the shoulder, so, no, you cannot wait for Abed."
He tried to sit up straight again.
"Look, kid, it's not… Ugh." He fell back on the floor.
"See, you cannot even straighten you up…" She said, coming near him.
"I'm fine." He tried to reassure her.
"No you're not!" she yelled, now at his side
"Look, Caroline, you… What are you doing?"
She had begun unbuttoning his shirt.
"I need to clean and bandage the wound."
"Caroline, stop it!" He yelled with an alarmed tone, the hand in his good arm trying to catch his.
She slapped it away.
"Ow, screw this!" She yanked his shirt away, ripping it.
"Hey, that shirt was made with elven silk!" He angrily bellowed.
"Good, and now…" She gave a long look at Marrrrr's exposed abs before turning her eyes at the deep cut leaved by the Goblin's sword.
She began medicating it.
He looked at her assorted face, giving her a fond smile.
"You would have made a good healer, Caroline…" He said with a soft tone, "… If you weren't such a good adventurer."
She kept her eyes on his wound.
Her face saddened.
"Hey, what's wrong…?" He asked with a concerned tone.
"Nothing, it's just…" She sighed, "… Why have you done it, Marrrrr?"
He gave her a confused look, "Why have I done what?"
"Why have you taken that hit for me? I'm a fighter, and I'm the one with the best armor, I could have handled a short sword hit." She explained, still medicating the wound.
"Well, I did it because…" He trailed off, trying to find the right answer in his brain, "… Because you're important to me."
She huffed, "Well, stop doing that…" She whined, "… It's frustrating!"
He gave her a bewildered look, ""Frustrating"?" He repeated with a sour tone.
"Yes, Marrrrr, because, maybe you didn't notice, but I'm a grown woman who can take care of herself! I don't need a knight in shining armor!" She sorely remarked.
"You're starting to sound like Britta…" Marrrrr muttered under his breath.
She gave him an angry look.
"Ouch!" He yelled as she put pressure on his wound, "You did it on porpoise!"
"Well, Excuuuuse me, Marrrrr, my hand must have slipped…" She said with an innocent tone.
"Slipped my ass…" He yelled, grabbing her wrist in a firm grip.
"Let me go, Marrrrr…" She said with a slightly shaken tone, "… I-I need to bandage the wound."
He deeply stared into her eyes before letting go of her wrist.
Silence fell on the pair as Annie began to bandage his wound.
"It was Artax…" He said after some time.
"W-what?" She asked, startled by the sudden voice after all that silence.
"My Pegasus' name, it was Artax." He explained, looking at her.
She looked back at him, both in silence.
"My name is not really Caroline Decker…" She found herself saying in an high tone.
He made a smug smirk, "I kind of suspected it…"
They stared into each other's eyes, again.
He softly smiled at her.
She smiled back.
"I call dibs on her armor." A voice from the nearby shadows said, startling them.
They looked around in alert.
"You cannot take anything away, you know the master's orders!"
They drew their weapons.
"Quiet or they'll hear us!"
A blowgun dart hit Anna's neck.
She fell to the ground.
"Caroline!" He shouted before another dart hit his neck.
He fell to the ground, paralyzed.
"Ca… Ro… Line…"
He fell into unconsciousness, the last thing he saw being two goblins coming near her.
Then his world went black.
