Chapter 14
A few hours later...
Wren came back into Spencer's room after checking his other patients.
"How are you feeling now?" Wren asked seeing Spencer was finally awake after a long needed nap.
"I feel okay I guess. My stomach could be better." Spencer replied in a quiet tone.
"I'm glad, your food should be here soon. But in the meantime there is something I'd like to discuss. Do you mind if I close the door for a moment?" Wren said.
"Not at all Dr. Kingston." Spencer replied teasing Wren.
Wren closed the door quietly so not to disturb the patient next to Spencer.
"Well there is one good thing that's come back on your tests. Your levels are more regulated now that we kept you overnight. But there's one thing you need to do if you want to feel better completely." Wren explained.
"What would that be?" Spencer asked.
"Taking a good dose of prenatal vitamins." Wren replied taking out of his pocket a bottle of prenatals that he picked up from a local drugstore.
"You didn't have to buy me that." Spencer said smiling at Wren.
"I bought it so you wouldn't have to get it yourself." Wren replied giving the bottle to Spencer.
"Mel bought me prenatals that she forces me to take every day but sometimes I forget. I guess you can blame it on the pregnancy brain issue." Spencer said laughing.
"I highly doubt that the whole "pregnancy brain" thing is even real." Wren replied looking at Spencer.
"Well if that's the case, then I'm in the clear." Spencer said smiling. "Thank you for the prenatal vitamins, I appreciate everything you're doing to help me out."
As they sat there together, Wren just smiled at Spencer before deciding he should leave the room.
"I'll be back later, but right now I have more patients to attend too." Wren replied. "And you're very welcome, now make sure to take these once a day, okay." He said pointing to the vitamin supplement bottle of prenatals.
"I will. But this whole babying me to death thing has to stop." Spencer said smiling at Wren before he left the room.
"I'm not babying you to death. I'm just taking care of you until you leave the hospital." Wren replied now leaving her room door open again.
The patient in the bed by Spencer was an elderly woman who thought their interaction was sweet.
Spencer smiled as she decided to turn on her tv to watch something.
"I think the doctor likes you more than he likes to believe he does." The elderly lady was deadpan serious.
"I don't think me hooking up with a doctor will be a good thing for me considering that I have a boyfriend." Spencer replied laughing at the lady's joke.
"It doesn't matter if you have a boyfriend or not, I see the look in his eyes, he lights up every time he comes into the room. He loves you a lot." The geriatric patient said.
"I'm not sure I want to know what you really think of my whole situation, it's very complicated." Spencer explained being vague about her being pregnant and her troubled relationship with Toby.
"It doesn't matter at the end of the day if you have a boyfriend in his eyes, he sees you as that special apple of his eyes, whether you know it or not." Miss Jean said.
"I think what is happening between me and Wren isn't any of your business in the first place, but like I said I have a boyfriend nothing will ever happen between me and Wren. He's just a good friend of the family." Spencer replied trying to suppress her urge to roll her eyes.
Wren came back in later closer to noon to check up on Spencer, but while the patient next to her was asleep for her afternoon nap.
"Hey Wren." Spencer said still lying in her bed watching TV.
"Hey, do you wanna go take a walk or something? I know you hate being cooped up in the room for a long time." Wren suggested.
"Uh sure. Let me just go to the bathroom really quick first." Spencer said getting up slowly from her bed.
Spencer used the restroom, washed her hands and came out, grabbed her shoes, and threw them on before heading outside with Wren.
Later on...
"Thanks for the walk, I really needed the fresh air. I hate the smell of hospital air." Spencer said smiling at Wren.
"I understand. It always smells like doctor equipment and that stale sanitation cleaner they use for the floors." Wren replied grabbing Spencer's hand and leading her around the garden of the hospital of Rosewood General Hospital.
"It's beautiful out here." Spencer said admiring the flowers of the garden.
"I know someone here that I'm walking with right now who is just as beautiful if not more beautiful than all the flowers here." Wren replied slightly flirtatious.
"Wren, I have a boyfriend. I can't keep egging you on if you're gonna try things like this." Spencer said letting go of Wren's hand.
"I know you do. But he doesn't even treat you right. Why are you even with him anyway?" Wren asked contemplatively.
"I love Toby, I mean we don't always see eye to eye on everything. But we both care about each other, okay? Me hanging out with you is wrong as is. You're older than me by a few years. Even though I'm 18, I'm sorry I just can't lead you on if nothing will ever happen between us." Spencer replied sighing.
"Spencer, I don't know how else to tell you this, but I freaking love you, okay? I don't care that you're having Toby's baby. I want to be with you." Wren said grabbing Spencer's hands once more. "Can you at least think about the possibility of there being an "us?" He added.
"Wren, I'm so not what you want in a relationship. I'm the opposite of everything good you stand for. I'm a pregnant teenager for crying out loud." Spencer said trying not to cry getting emotional.
"I don't care. You could tell me you killed someone and I would still care about you. I love you and I want you to be happy. Just think about that at least for now." Wren replied before giving her a kiss on the forehead.
"I don't even know what to say right now. I'm flabbergasted. That old lady that's in my room said the same exact thing, but I didn't believe her. But I guess she was right." Spencer said.
Wren grabbed Spencer's face lovingly and gave her a soft kiss before leading her back to the hospital room.
