Author's Note:
I don't own White Knight Chronicles and all characters belong to their rightful owners. It's been a long time since we've had a portion with song lyrics in it. I've got a line from 'The Battlefield Flower' in this next part and it doesn't belong to me. I'm only using it to continue telling this wonderful story.
Here's the next chapter! Enjoy!
"This is all my fault!" The young girl cries. She rubs her cheeks with her fist as her tears continue.
"Hush my little knight…This is not your fault…" A warrior clad in white armor tries to sooth her. She looks up at him with wide aquamarine eyes. He smiles gently down at her.
"I-I was just playing…" She sobs and throws her arms around him. He pats her vermillion hair as he comforts her.
"We all understand that it was an accident…" He looks over her head at the flower of fire that blooms on the battlefield. He wonders how one so young could have caused so much devastation.
The warmth of the morning sun dripped through the curtains and into the room. Caesar slowly opened his eyes and looked around. He sighed in relief when he saw Leonard sleeping peacefully. He slowly got to his feet from his place on the floor. His entire body ached.
Caesar rolled his shoulders and stretched his arms over his head. He felt free again. Larvayne was no longer possessing him, he could move freely once more. He took the chair from Leonard's desk and placed it at the bedside.
He sat on the chair backwards and rested his arms on the back of the chair. He gazed down at Leonard. Caesar had never seen him look so calm and peaceful.
The morning itself seemed surreal. The warm light of the sun filled the room with a silent peace.
"…it's times like this that make me forget we're at war…" Caesar whispered. A small smile had pulled at his lips. "Leonard…" Caesar reached out to brush Leonard's bangs away from his face but the sound of voices made him freeze. Caesar listened as pleasantries were exchanged. He recognized the voices.
"Rapacci we're looking for Leonard, is he here?" Helena asked politely.
"Yes," Rapacci replied. He hesitated a moment before he continued. "I suppose you didn't hear about what happened last night…"
"No, what happened?" Eldore questioned.
"Leonard was attacked," Rapacci explained.
"What?" Helena gasped. Her voice was heavy with worry. "Is he alright?!"
"Quiet down now Helena. Leonard's asleep upstairs. He needs his rest. The doctor said he'd be back on his feet in a day or two." Rapacci replied. "It was a close call though. If the doctor had gotten to him any later…"
"Do you know who attacked him?" Eldore asked.
"No, Leonard didn't say much…" Rapacci responded. "Why don't you two come back later? Leonard will be awake to tell you all about it."
"Alright, thanks Rapacci," Helena said.
Caesar heard the doors open and close. He relaxed in his chair. He wasn't sure if he was ready to see his friends yet. Larvayne had done so much to them.
How will I get them to trust me again…? Caesar lowered his head. Kara…She hates me…I know she does… A sigh escaped his lips.
"Caesar…?" Leonard's voice pulled him from his thoughts. Caesar looked down at Leonard and smiled.
"Hey, you're awake…"
Leonard slowly sat up and winced. Caesar reached out to help him.
"Don't rush it," Caesar told him.
"I'm fine Caesar," Leonard smiled at him. "The doctor said I'd be just fine after a day or two of bed rest. The wound wasn't as bad as it could have been. …You made sure of that didn't you?"
Caesar blinked in surprise and quickly looked away from him.
"I did try to stop her…but she ended up hurting you anyway… I made Larvayne miss her mark…but Leonard if I had only stopped her sooner!"
Leonard put a hand on his arm. Caesar glanced at him.
"Caesar, I know it wasn't you. You kept us all safe while Larvayne had control of you, didn't you? You stopped her from killing us in that first fight and you didn't let Yulie fall, right?"
"I…I did." Caesar admitted, "But I-"
"Caesar, you saved our lives. You couldn't have done anything better." Leonard interrupted him. Caesar shook his head.
"No. I couldn't stop Larvayne from saying all those things… I couldn't stop her from ki-" Caesar blushed deeply and stopped himself. He looked away from Leonard and rubbed the back of his neck. Leonard flushed lightly and found sudden interest in the seams of the sheet.
"Well…uh…" Leonard muttered. "I mean…um…"
"Should we agree to forget it happened?" Caesar suggested.
"Yeah, that-that sounds like a good idea." Leonard stammered.
"So it never happened." Caesar clarified.
"Nope." Leonard shook his head. "Totally didn't happen."
The two boys glanced at each other and laughed.
"It's good to have you back Caesar," Leonard smiled.
"It's good to be back." Caesar's grin was lopsided.
