14. Meeting A Sniper

Author's Notes: Since there were only thirteen previous chapters I went ahead and cleaned them up before I started writing this. I suggest everyone give it a quick reread since I changed a few things.

Story Start: Dursley Household

It was with some trepidation that Harry brought his trunk into the house and put it in the cupboard under the stairs. Petunia had been very firm that Harry could get to his summer homework two weeks after school. The first week of course was going to be spent under her Special Agent friend while the next week was going to be spent just relaxing.

Speaking of said friend, the TV was on but it was on a channel that had NEVER been on in this household before. Harry came into the family room surprised to see an Old Western from the Colonies playing, a silver haired man sitting on the couch eating a steak with a fork and a folding knife as he watched the tv. Vernon was sitting in his usual chair eyeing the man with a bit of a wary look though it was mixed with some respect. As soon as Harry entered the room, the man's blue eyes locked onto him and he put down his eating utensils and wiped his mouth with a napkin before he stood up and walked over extending a hand as he said "You must be Harry, I'm Special Agent Gibbs, but you can just call me Gibbs."

Harry accepted the hand and shook it even as he couldn't help but notice the wood carving calluses he was feeling and said "Nice to meet you sir, Aunt Petunia's told me a lot about you."

"Nothing too crazy I hope." Gibbs said with a smile.

"With you, and what you do for work, nothing's too crazy Gunny." Petunia said with a smirk as she walked into the family room and easily accepted the hug Gibbs gave her.

"I seem to recall you did one or two crazy things yourself while you were visiting last time Petunia." Gibbs said with a smirk when they ended the hug.

"What kind of crazy things could Pet have ever done?" Vernon asked incredulously.

The smirk Gibbs gave the man of the house had Vernon visibly become uncomfortable as he said "She made a three hundred and fifty pound punk biker break down crying in interrogation."

"Coool." Harry said with a grin.

Vernon looked startled, and Harry actually heard his neck crack a little when he snapped his gaze back to his wife when said woman scoffed and said "Oh please, that guy was really just a wet noodle, McGee could have gotten everything he needed from him in ten minutes."

"True, but you did it in ten seconds just staring at him." Gibbs said in amusement.

Harry was looking at his aunt like she was a local celebrity though his uncle did bring up a good question when he coughed uncertainly and said "Er, forgive me for asking, but why was Pet taking part in an interrogation?"

"The guy she interrogated? He was a first gen magical who had moved from Britain to the States as soon as he had graduated from Hogwarts and was part of a smuggling ring that took advantage of Runes to make certain items undetectable during searches made by nonmagical customs officials." Gibbs said offhandedly before gaining the scariest grin yet as he said "And he graduated in the same year Petunia had. What was it he said at the end of his blabbering? Oh yes, 'I swear to Merlin and Morgana that's everything I know, please don't taze me again!'"

Harry couldn't help himself as he laughed while Vernon was giving his wife a look that said he clearly didn't know her as well as he thought. Petunia though simply shrugged and said "It's not my fault I preferred to use a taser spell when guys didn't get the fourth message that no, I didn't want to go to Hogsmeade with them."

That only made Harry laugh harder while Vernon relaxed and nodded in approval. A lot of stuff could be said about Vernon, but even he wouldn't pester someone so much for a date. When a girl had told him no back before he had married Petunia, that was it, they were taken off the potential dating list and the only further conversation with them was business related.

Shaking his head with amusement, Gibbs made a topic change and focused back on Harry as he said "Moving on, Petunia here says you play Seeker for your House Quidditch team."

Despite himself, even Vernon looked a minuscule amount interested in a sport his nephew played and Harry nodded as he said "Yeah, first years aren't normally allowed on the team, it gets pretty brutal with the Bludgers after all, but there wasn't anyone good enough in the upper years so our team captain and Head of House allowed me in."

Gibbs nodded and said "You must have really good eyesight then if you can reliably spot a small golden ball the size of a walnut from hundreds of feet away." Cocking his head, he said "Your aunt's already taught you how to do the long range version of the taser spell right?" When Harry nodded, Gibbs continued "I'll see about finding us a proper sniping range where I can teach you, though we may have to go international and use the one I typically practice in. Sniper Capable Sensors aren't exactly common after all."

"He'll need a passport before you take him out of the country." Petunia reminded him.

Gibbs hummed and said "Maybe another time then." He then once more smirked in a worrisome way as he said "Besides, there's plenty of other stuff we can do this week."

Harry couldn't help the small gulp he gave at that somehow threatening statement.

The next morning Harry found that he had been right to worry. At 0700 hours Gibbs woke both him and Dudley up, the Marine actually pulling Dudley's mattress out from under him when he wouldn't get up, without using magic to augment his strength, just pure muscle. They got a quick glass of orange juice and an apple for some energy before he had them outside doing a set of twenty five push ups and twenty five jumping jacks before he had them run to the local park and back two times. After that, they had an actual breakfast with Petunia and Vernon at eight o'clock before Gibbs took them to the local boxing gym and began teaching the two preteens starter martial arts. Break for half an hour for dinner at noon back at the Dursley residence then Gibbs would allow Dudley to remain behind lifting a small set of weights under Petunia's watch and take Harry via floo to the Sensor training area under the Gun Store and begin to really put Harry through his paces. Telekinesis while on the move, rapid fire target practice while being timed on running a course of over various obstacles, battle scenarios that Gibbs somehow roped the other few Sensors who had been there that day into helping with. Seven hours later, they were back at the Dursleys in time for supper. The hours between after supper and before bed was spent with Gibbs telling Harry and the Dursleys stories about some of the cases he worked, both in the mundane part of the world as a 'simple' NCIS agent, his sensor abilities played off as 'his gut', and some of the cases where he had acted completely in the magical world.

It was five days into Gibbs visit that things took a concerning turn. It was an hour before dinner and Harry was on the phone with Hermione frowning as he spoke. A phone call that Hermione had started.

"What do you mean you or Neville didn't get my letters? I sent them yesterday with Hedwig." Harry was worried. Hedwig was a strong flyer, able to travel from the Dursleys household up to Hogwarts in Scotland within a single day. Hermione and Neville should both have his letters to them by now, so for them to not have them…

Hermione immediately latched onto his unspoken worry and said "Harry, Hedwig's a smart owl, I'm sure she's fine."

Almost as if that's what she had been waiting for, Hedwig flew in from the open window of the kitchen and came to land on Harry's automatically raised arm. Her feathers were ruffled and she did not look happy, giving an agitated bark to her owner.

"Hang on, Hedwig just showed up, but she looks like someone tried to mess with her." Harry said in concern even as he put the phone against his shoulder and began absently using his now free hand to try to smooth over some feathers.

"Maybe a hawk or eagle tried to eat her and she lost the letters in the scuffle?" Hermione hesitantly offered. Hedwig's sharp hearing allowed her to hear the bookworm and she gave a sharp hoot of denial while furiously shaking her head.

"Hedwig says that it wasn't a bird of prey that attacked her." Harry said with his frown growing. Unseen to him, Petunia and Gibbs traded a narrowed eyed look with each other before Gibbs drained his latest cup of coffee and exited the house.

"Surely someone didn't steal the letters, why would anyone want mail between three preteens?" Hermione asked incredulously.

Hedwig gave a sharp hoot and an even sharper nod of her head and Harry's frown became a scowl as he said "Hedwig just said that's exactly what happened. Listen, this could just be because of all that Boy-Who-Lived fame crap, see if you can get a letter off to Neville, if you can then that means it's most likely just my mail being intercepted which while disturbing, means we can work around it until whoever's doing it is caught. For now, stick with phone calls."

"Alright Harry, just be safe, if some stalker is stealing your mail, then they might try to do something else if they can't get it." Hermione said worriedly.

"Yeah, I'll keep an eye out. Talk to you later Hermione." Harry said before hanging up with his scowl still present.

He stood there for a few minutes before he looked towards the front door as it opened and Gibbs strode through closing the door. Shaking his head, Gibbs said "I couldn't sense anyone magical who didn't belong in a mile radius. Whoever took your mail isn't in the area right now."

"Makes sense, if they managed to track Harry down to this location then they probably know there's not just one but two Sensors in the house right now. They'll most likely do their best to stay low now that they've made a move and made us aware that there's a problem." Petunia said with a frown.

"That's going to make catching them a problem." Gibbs said with a scowl. This was a child's mail that was being stolen after all, which just screamed pedophile to the navy cop, and he HATED pedophiles.

"Shouldn't we contact the aurors?" Harry asked.

Petunia shook her head and said "Not yet. We'll wait until Hermione can either confirm or deny if she is able to get a letter to Neville. That'll tell us if it's just you and Hedwig being targeted or if it's all three of you. Once we know that, we'll have a better idea of what they're working with."

Harry nodded at that though he bit his lip before he walked up stairs to where Hedwig's owl treats were kept by her perch.

END

Author's Notes: I'm just going to stop here. This chapter has been fighting me the whole way through and has already taken double the time it should have. I guess that's what I get for bringing a character in two books early. Next chapter is going to be the Mason dinner visit then Diagon Alley and Lockhart. (Which will almost certainly NOT go how you think it will.) And then back to Hogwarts most likely.

Anyway, you know the drill by now: Update Schedule and Poll is on my Profile, though I think I'll give a shot at adding more drabbles to the Eraser Kung Fu collection for a day or two before I dive into the Transformers segment of the schedule.
