Chapter 14: Secrets
You're sitting on the bed in the hotel room. Kai was on your lap and in front of you, three angry Blitzkrieg boys. You looked at them, biting your lower lip thinking of what to say. You had been careless and blurted out parts of Kai's secret. Now you were trying to come up with a really good excuse that could convince the three boys. So far you had nothing.
"Tell them." Blinking in surprise you looked down at the bluish grey kitten.
"What?"
"Tell them."
"But Kai…"
"Things have changed I need them to know to help out. Only them though." He explained. Getting slightly worried you took a deep breath and looked up at the three boys.
"You probably won't believe me, but here goes." The boys didn't say anything. Tala simply raised a brow and looked at you to continue. With another hesitant look at the kitten you carry on.
"This isn't really a cat. It's actually Kai Hiwatari, your teammate." You state and look at them. They stare at you in return.
"Honestly, that's your excuse." Bryan ask with a smirk.
"It's not an excuse." You state.
"Bryan shut up. Start with the beginning Cornelia." Tala says seriously. Glaring at his teammate. So with another deep breath you tell them everything that has happened, from the moment you saved Kai from the dog.
Kai couldn't believe he had to tell the Blitzkrieg boys about his kitten curse. He was embarrassed and annoyed, but even more surprised. The reason. Tala Valkov. Who, despite how stranfe and weird it sounded had believed you right away. His explanation for it made Kai feel even worse. He still resembles himself. The eyes and behaviour was still that of the blader Kai Hiwatari. Did that mean others expected it as well? He could already feel the headache grow inside his skull, seems that cats can't avoid them either.
"The biggest problem is getting him back to himself. We thought the tournament might do the trick, but clearly it didn't work," you say looking at the rest of the team.
"Well the tournament isn't what he needs then. Isn't that what the tea lady said?" Spencer says.
"Right."
"Well what does he need then?" Bryan continues.
"I don't know idiot or we would have fixed it already." Kai hisses. Looking at the kitten the three boys turn to you. Laughing a bit nervously, you translate.
"Maybe you haven't thought of the right things. Often one can't see themselves what they need. Like when we were in the abbey and thought we only needed power to exist." Tala says thoughtfully.
"We thought about that too, but even I can't understand what he supposedly needs." You explain. All five of you turn silent, thinking.
"It doesn't matter right now, there's another problem we need to do something about." Kai finally says. As you translate, you look curious at your friend.
"Project X has been stolen from the BBA, and they decided not to tell anyone."
"What 's project X?" you ask. All the boys keep quiet and look at the kitten.
"Are you sure?" Spencer asks.
"Read the report myself and heard mr.D talk to his staff about retrieving it."
"But who could know about its location? The press was told it was destroyed." Bryan adds.
"The report didn't say, but we have to find it. You know what it can do." Kai explain. All the while you translate his every word and look more and more confused.
"So you won't tell me what project X is huh?" you finally say.
"It's better you don't know. If I was human you wouldn't even be here." Kai replies with one of his famous hun. Feeling a bit hurt, you put him down on the bed and get up.
"I know that. But somehow I feel I'm connected to this, besides from helping you Kai. These visions aren't here because of you, they're connected to me. And I think it's actually a bitbeast." You say looking thoughtful out the window.
"She does have a point there."
"Don't you even think about telling her or I'll claw your eyes out." Kai growls. Shocked you look at him while translating. The boys don't seem too surprised though.
"Didn't plan to. But we should figure out what causes them. I mean last night she…" Bryan trails of and everyone turn silent again. Last night was the worst and so far the most real vision yet, if it continues like this you might actually get physically hurt.
"Let's start by doing something we know first. Track down that project. We'll think of Kai's transformation and Cornelia's visions as we do, maybe some thinking can give us new ideas." Tala concludes and everyone agrees.
"Cornelia and I will handle today's tournament. You guys know what to do." He continues looking at Spencer and Bryan who nod in agreement. Without another word you all get dressed and get going.
You feel nauseous. Still a bit shaken after last night. Thinking back on all your visions you try to connect them and figure out what they mean, but with no luck. You're sitting in the wardrobe with Tala and Kai, waiting for your match. On the TV on the wall, the current match between the Allstars and Majestics is shown. You're not paying attention, but staring at the screen in deep thought. The two boys of course notice, but don't say anything. They know what's on your mind. Your upcoming match is against the Shadow Kings. Tala will take the first battle, you the second. Both have a feeling that whatever that team has been planning, it will be revealed on this match. On the screen DJ Jazzman declares the match complete. Taking a deep breath you get on your feet, ready to take on this dark blading group. As you walk into the stadium, Kai follows you and hides under the bench. Tala looks seriously at you.
"Don't worry, no matter what happens, I'll be right here with you." He says. You give him a smile and nod, feeling a small blush across your cheeks. He gives you a grin before walking up to the dish for the first match.
Finding clues about Black Dranzer proved to be harder than Spencer and Bryan had expected. Mainly because they couldn't ask anyone in the BBA about it. They weren't supposed to know after all. For the time being, it seemed best to keep it that way. So they had to sneak around the BBA without getting noticed, and for once the training from the abbey proved useful. It didn't take them long to find out where Black Dranzer had been kept and get there, but they didn't expect the destruction that meet them. The building was a ruin, sealed off by police tape. It looked like it had burned down. Seeing as it was of concrete it still stood, but was far from inviting. The two exchanged glances before they passed the banners and went inside. Everything was destroyed. Broken and burned. They found the stairs that lead down to the lower levels, but with no electricity or windows it was pitch black. Luckily they were experienced enough to have brought flashlights. Turning them on they walked down into the darkness of the research plans of the building.
You had known the Shadow Kings was up to no good, but you never thought Tala would struggle thins much. In the beginning of the match he had the upper hand, but as the match continued he got more and more tired. It was no wonder it was like his opponent was torturing him, and enjoying it.
"They know they can't beat him in a fair game, so they're making sure he can't do a second battle." Kai explained as he saw your worried expression. Tala had obviously noticed this too. He didn't waste any time activating Wolfborg.
"Let's finish this." He shouted. His opponent grinned and continued his torture of your teammate. It was then you realized that those attacks weren't just on his bey. They were hurting Tala himself. Ripping his clothes, beating him. It looked like one was beating him with a whip. Biting your lip you struggled not to scream. The longer the match lasted the more injured Tala got.
"The great Blitzkrieg X captain, or should I say Demolition Boys?" the guy grinned sadistically when he saw Tala's reaction to their old abbey team being mentioned.
"I expected this to be allot tougher. Guess you're gotten soft since then. Taking in weak girls on your team." He continued. You saw the moment Tala snapped, the moment he changed from being the skilled captain of Blitzkrieg Zero, to the destructing captain of the old Demolition Boys. His expression went blank and he straightened up, staring at the guy in front of him.
"Wolfborg, NoveRowe." He said almost in a whisper. But his cold, calculating voice made a shiver go down your spine. Wolfborg did as he was told but the attack was different than usual. The ice was a dark grey instead of shining blue, and the force behind it was enormous. He didn't simply knock him out, he crushed the blade to bits and sent the opponent flying back, slamming into the team's bench. Tala's eyes was glaring evilly. It frightened you and reminded you about the Russian tournament four years ago.
"T-Tala?" you said carefully. When he heard your voice it was like he reverted back to normal, he blinked before turning and looking confused at you. As Dj Jazzman announced the next match the red head walked over to you.
"I'm not sure what just happened. As the match started I just felt like doing horrible things. Seems I eventually did too." He says glancing at the guy he had been battling, who was being carried away to the infirmary.
"You mean they made you evil?" you ask concerned.
"Only while in the fight, like darkness crept into me and made me go back to the abbey ways. Now that I think about it, that match seemed very similar to the once we used to do there." He trails of thoughtful.
"Be careful Cornelia, I have a feeling this next match will be worse." Kai commented from under the bench. Looking up at the dish you see what he means. It's that guy standing there. The one who triggered a vision. You gulp nervously and grip tightly around Dranzer, before you walk up to the dish, ready to battle.
The lower floors was worse of then the once above. It looked like the fire had started down there somewhere. Exchanging glances the two boys kept walking, they were getting closer. Several hallways was sealed by crumbled roofs and warning ribbons. As they walked they recognized several stains on the walls and floors as blood, another gift given by the abbey, or a curse, the two weren't sure. Eventually they reached what looked like the main research room. Some things were still intact, but most of it had been burned or melted to uselessness. Bryan did what he could to get into the computer system as Spencer looked around. Research facilities gave him the creeps, thanks to his past in the abbey.
"I got in. I think something survived." Bryan said after a while. He found a video file and clicked it. It showed two researchers working on Black Dranzer. They had found the right place at least. Opening another file the boys was meet with an inferno on the screen and voices shouting.
"Doctor we have to go!"
"No. We cannot let them have it!"
"It will be gone in the fire and so will we if we don't go!"
"Fool, a fire won't destroy it. We have to secure it."
"Doctor!"
"I will not let them have it!"
The fire intensified and one could heard those voices scream in pain. A laugh. A cruel and evil laugh.
"What idiots, thinking they could stop us, right?" a young male talking.
"Never mind, grab the bag and research data. And let's go." A cold, calculating voice ordered.
As the image on the screen exploded and went black the two boys stared with big eyes.
"The guy with the laugh, was that…"
"Yeh the captain of the Shadow Kings, and Cornelia's opponent today." The two shared a shocked look.
"That last voice. It was defiantly Him too." Bryan added. Spencer nodded in return. With another shocked look at each other they ran back to warn the others, hoping they wouldn't be too late.
AmTheLion: What will happen during your match? How could they make Tala turn bad again? Who did Spencer and Bryan discover in the video? And where has Black Dranzer disappeared too?
