A/N: Hey hey! So I went to ren fest yesterday and it was awesome but my wallet is most certainly crying… a lot… but I got Trish's bracer and the corset for Zelda! And that is going to be very, very epic. I'll post pictures of all my adventures this year on my DA page so you guys can see all the shenanigans that I get into if you're interested :p and also! I trusted a pirate and it was awesome, I've got a katana, hunting knife, and two other pointy weapons and a couple kunais… yup. I like fancy weaponry just a little too much…
Disclaimer: I still own nothing, still. Big shocker. I know. I understand.
Passing Time
It had been six years since the boys had started school and while there had been a few mishaps along the way things were still running along as they should. Life had been pretty good for the huntress and the half devil twins that is, if you wanted to forget about the demon that had been stalking them for years now. It wasn't the same one that had forced Sparda to flee, of that much they were all certain, but rather it was much, much more powerful. This monster had bided its time, picking piece by piece at the wards that they could only do so much to keep up, finding the weak spots… Usually the presence wasn't felt but sometimes it would flare up, just a little, just to remind them that they were being watched, that they weren't safe. Eva had considered moving them elsewhere but the wards that Sparda had put up still stood and they were more powerful than anything that she could cast, that and the boys were so settled in here, she couldn't take them away from the only place that they knew.
Speaking of the boys, Eva sighed and put her head in her hands, running her fingers through her hair. When the two were at school was the only time she ever got any respite. They were little powerhouses, not as little as they used to be, they were eleven now but they would always be her little boys in her eyes. They were always running around or shuffling through Sparda's old books or fighting… good god did they fight. The huntress wondered often if that was a devil thing or just a sibling thing, she couldn't recall fighting that much with her elder brother but he was a good five years older and she was a girl, a tomgirl but still a girl.
"Have I done a good job?" she asked the single photo of Sparda that sat on top of the desk, he had always avoided photos, not wanting something to get out and demons finding them because of a single flub up but she insisted on having one to keep for herself and after long enough he had finally agreed to it. Now the photo was the only image she had that wasn't in her memories. Often she found herself staring at it, wondering what would happen to her boys, would they be hunted down for the rest of their lives because of their father or would they fly under the radar? She highly doubted that the two would be able to accomplish the latter, they fought against her boundaries enough as it was. Besides, Vergil aspired to be like his father and Dante was her little rebel, neither of those things opted for a quiet lifestyle. For as much as they were alike they had opposing personalities like no other. Eva wondered if part of that was a subconscious effort on their part to be different, that they felt like they had to compete to be better, to be the favored child.
She sighed again and set the photo back on the desk. Looking at the image of her husband made her think of the more demonic traits that the boys had. Eva had been teaching them how to shoot; in her opinion it was a very vital trait for the boys to have and there was no possible way for her to train them in swordsplay. Though somehow she found them up in the attic, messing around with Sparda's devil arms, the fact that the weapons seemed to have become attached to and accepted the boys made her think that the weapons themselves were teaching and guiding the twins in how to use things other than firearms. It was a little spooky to see a massive blade shrink down so that her eleven year old son could pick it up and wield it like a master when she herself could not touch them without getting zapped. She picked up the small gun on the desk and looked at it, remembering half with amusement and half with horror when Vergil had snuck them out and tried practicing by himself. The huntress was pretty sure that he had done it to try and impress her latter but the end result was a ricochet back into the poor boy's skull, when he'd woken up he had come to her, scared and crying and confused.
Eva had comforted him as best she could, but even she was extremely rattled by this new development, if the twins could survive even gunshots to the head… the power contained in the two half devils was beyond immense and she knew that when they were infants that Sparda had locked the vast majority of it away for her safety as well as the boys' own. They weren't ready for the kind of power that they possessed yet the tiny amount that they did have just kept on growing and expanding. It was this fact that gave Eva hope that should anything ever happen to her they would have a chance… She heard the front door open and two sets of feet enter, the tone of the voices and the presences that suddenly flooded the air told her that it was her boys. Moments later two white heads poked into the study to say hi but both paused when they saw her.
"Mom…" Vergil said softly.
"Why are you crying…?" Dante asked, Eva touched her cheek and looked at her wet fingers as two sets of blue eyes watched carefully.
"I… I'm just happy to have you two." The huntress said, sweeping both boys into a hug, they returned it readily but she was fairly certain that they didn't take that excuse but there was no time to think about that as the ominous presence flared up dramatically and powerfully.
A/N: I think there might only be one chapter of this story left, after that I'll move to a different part of the storyline, I might just continue with the twins or I might just hop to different point and then come back to this spot later. Either way, I hope you'll follow me there :)
Till next time,
