Greetings my lovelies, and welcome to the great finale! The thing you've all been waiting for! Okay, so technically there's still the Epilogue but officially this is the final chapter of the story. We've come a long way together, what with my sporadic updating and the large gaps in between. But it's finally done. I have a few other stories in the works and as soon as I get them each to a place that I feel comfortable with, I'll probably start posting one of them. I haven't decided which one yet, though, there're so many different fandoms I wanna write for!
Now I just want to take this moment to say . . . thank you. Thank you all of you who have followed/favorited this dumb story I decided to write. So many times I wanted to just give up, pack it in, but then I'd see just how many people actually LIKE this and I couldn't do that to you. Thank you all so much for all the generosity and support. I'm still blown away by how popular this is! So, although it's probably going to kill me to try and get everyone down, I want to thank you:

Shadows of Moonlight
Chapter 14
Pip came to slowly, his one eye blinking heavily as he stared up at the ceiling. For a moment, he had no idea where he was. This definitely wasn't that shit-hole apartment that he was renting until he'd gotten Seras' answer. At the memory of the precocious blonde his eye widened and he attempted to sit up. A gruesome cry of agony forced his way past his lips as his body negated the action. Oh god, what did that monster do to him?! Breathing shallow, he continued pushing himself into a sitting position, despite the overall torture his body was putting him through. Panting at the exertion, he leaned heavily against the wall next to him and looked down at himself. Well, could have been worse. Bastard could have cut his dick off and then where would he be? He felt like he'd taken a spin through a meat grinder but except for his leg being in a rather odd and unfortunate angle he was for the most part unharmed. He was bleeding from the many wounds he'd received in his fight with the freak, and it was obvious that whatever he'd done had been for the most part psychological besides his leg and the multitude of bruises littering his battered and broken body.
Sighing, he reached with a shaky hand for his vest pocket and pulled out a cigarette carton. One cig left. He stuck the cancerous stick between cracked lips while he dug through another pocket for a lighter. Grunting, he pulled the zippo out and flicked it open. He flicked the wick a few times, growling the long it took for a flame to catch. Dammit, if he was going to die he at least wanted a last smoke! Damned bastard might have let him live but from the state his body was in if he was caught by a ghoul at this point he doubted he would survive the altercation. He could barely move his arms without cringing in pain and there was no way he was moving with his leg the way it was. Which, now that Pip thought about it, was probably what the freak vampire was going for. Blood from a head wound blocked his eyesight for a moment, although it probably didn't matter. He was dead at this point. At last, the lighter caught and he took a few generous pulls of his cig when it began to burn. Ah, sweet deadly vapor. He knew even if he managed to survive this shit and found a nice girl to settle down with he'd never quit smoking. All the men in his family smoked, it was a family tradition that he would continue to uphold. Just like he would never quit being a mercenary.
He released the noxious air slowly, considering his lot in life. He was so fucked up. What made him think putting his lot in with that crazy Hellsing chick would be a good idea? Pip had known Seras and her adopted sister for a while now, ever since they first met at the applicant sign up for the police academy. He'd known from the start that Seras could be the kind of girl he'd like to settle down with. And that he'd do anything to keep away from that other woman. Something about her had always rubbed him wrong, although he'd tried his best to hide it. Integra being raised to take over a military-esque corporation probably knocked a few screws loose in an otherwise pretty head. Not to mention all that occult bullshit both girls had been raised on. Although now he knew a good chunk of it wasn't bullshit at all. He coughed, holding his last drag in his lungs a little too long. Or maybe that was his body finally starting to shut down. Fuck if he knew at this point. A vision of Seras with her usual sweet smile filled his hazy vision and he couldn't help the self-deprecating grin that spread across his visage. Yeah, despite the shit he'd just put himself and his men through, she was definitely worth it. Even if he was forever stuck in a Friend Zone, she would always be worth it. "Well, Mignonette, I hope you are safe wherever you are."
The groan of a ghoul alerted him to its presence and he glanced down the hall at the creature shambling its way towards him. He snorted, reaching for his gun despite the complaint his body made at the movement. Whelp, looked like his time had come. Just as the creature was a few feet from him, a shink sound reached his already ringing ears and the freaks held flew clean off, showering him in useless blood. He cursed vividly at the unwanted shower, flicking blood soaked bangs out of his face. "What the fucking hell?"
"Language if you please, Monsieur Bernadotte." A cultured English accent drew his attention and he saw the butler, Walter, standing off to the side with that same affable grin on his face.
"Yo, Walter, the hells are you doing here? This place is a fucking warzone man."
"Indeed, and it seems you are in need of some assistance. I managed to get the last of the ghouls on this floor so we should be all cleared." The wizened face spread into a larger smile, a rather unsettling light filling his light eyes. "It's rather invigorating being in the line of fire again, so to speak. Now then, Miss Seras has ordered me to get all survivors off the premises and she specifically mentioned getting you to safety at all costs. So, lets stabilize that leg of yours and honor the good lady's last request, hmm?"
"The fuck are you talking about last request—if you saw her then why didn't you get her out of here?" He hissed as the butler, without preamble, suddenly straightened his leg out with a definitive snap; just barely biting back the cry he wanted to make. He couldn't stop the barrage of profanities that flew out though.
"Because, Monsieur Bernadotte, I respect her decisions even if I don't necessary agree with them. She believes she has the power to stop this madness before any more lives are lost. And I trust her to make the right choice in the end."
"So you're willing to just let her walk into the depths of hell with that freak?"
"I am willing to believe that we might not have any other choice, Captain." That normally mild gaze turned downright icy as he met Pip's one hazel orb. "I know this monster. I have heard the legends of his power. Those girls grew up hearing about the all-powerful No-Life King, although they may have forgotten all the myth that went along with it. At this stage, he is nigh impossible to destroy and near invisible. There is perhaps one spell in the Hellsing archives that could stop him, but it would most likely mean the deaths of more than just a few soldiers to complete it. Although I doubt she even remembers it, Seras knows better than anyone the power of this creature and how many more lives may be lost before his bloodlust is sated."
"So this was all for nothing." He forced the words through gritted teeth as the butler splinted his leg and then helped the beaten Frenchman to his feet.
"Oh no, this has been a great lesson for Sir Integra and Miss Seras. But our parts in this tale is done, old chap. All we can do now is survive the fallout."
"God help us." Together they staggered down the hall and towards the exit.
Integra stood in before her desk, leaving against the solid wood heavily as she finally came face to face with the monster that had been silently haunting her family for generations. It just figured that the mistake of two simple little girls would unleash his fury upon the human world and mean the life of them both in different ways. He stalked into the room, macabre Cheshire grin permanently upon his visage as the shadows around his body swirled wildly. Probably desiring her blood just like the blood sucker entering her final sanctuary. She felt her hands shaking as she clutched the ancient text to her breast, trying to steady her breathing as the color drained from her normally olive complexion. He stopped in the very center of the room, as if prolonging her fear and savoring it. Damn him. Damn him back to the Ninth circle of hell and may he rot for all eternity! Temper mounting, she flung her hidden revolver into the open, pointing it dead center on the monster before her.
"Get the fuck out of my office, Vampire, and take your fucking minions back into the shadows with you!" She spat, her gun arm surprisingly steady despite the terror coursing through her veins. He chuckled darkly at the command, head tilting speculatively as his gruesome grin spread even farther if possible.
"And what will you do if I don't, Hellsing? Will you send me back into that crypt your ancestors locked me in so many centuries ago?" His tone was mocking, grating on her ears and she found her eyes narrowing in temper.
"No, I will do much worse." It wasn't a threat, but a promise. She saw the moment he recognized it, crimson eyes swirling with a demonic light.
"I see. Then I better kill you before you get the chance." And he moved.
She fired off a shot immediately, managing to catch him in the face as she ducked to the side to avoid his attack. Her desk—which had sat before countless Hellsing head's before her—burst into splinters. The insane creature laughed at the destruction and she took his distraction as the moment to get away. She needed time to at least skim over the spell needed, and she couldn't do that if she was constantly dodging his attacks. Without conscious thought she headed in the direction of the roof entrance door, seeing the shadows close in around her from the corner of her eyes. "Dammit!"
His laughter chased after her although she did not consciously see him. But she damn well heard him. Creatures of shadows—mere puppets to the being giving chase—jumped out at her and she shot them all, shattering them into ghastly confetti. Her revolver ran out of bullets before long and she pulled out her trusted saber, which she had begun wearing as soon as the plan of attack was made. She pulled it free of its scabbard and slashed at anything and everything in her way. More and more shadow puppets fell before her blade, disintegrate. And still his laugh continued to follow her.
She slammed her way through the roof access door, not even bothering to close it again. It wouldn't impede him in any case. Tears blurred her vision, though whether from fear or an overall hopelessness, Integra wasn't sure. She ran to the helicopter landing pad, the spotlights on the roof illuminating the area. She was ashamed to say she actually screamed when a giant mass of sludge like shadow appeared before her. It took form slowly, drawing out the suspense, and she took the time to once more crack the she still held in her grasp open and study the page she'd found. She mumbled to herself, her mind struggling to conjugate the ancient Latin verses as her vision trailed again and again to the slowly rising mass. It slowly took on the basic form of a man, and then solidified even further. The shadows receded; revealing armor, a billowing cloak of night and blood, a wild main of ebony hair. She stood spell bound as the true form of the No-Life King was exposed to her. A pale, handsomely angular face. A thin, trim mustache above thin lips and a matching beard across a strong jaw. And then those eyes. Those bloodthirsty, glowing crimson orbs of the most unholy of demons.
Standing before her in the regalia of his time, ancient armor appearing like new, was the true No-Life King. Alucard. Dracula.
Those well shaped lips twisted into a sardonic smile as those glowing coals of eyes continued to study her. "And so, we find ourselves at the location of the last stand. What will you do now, Hellsing? Will you continue to fight until your dying breath, as your predecessors before you? Or will you admit defeat and give me my prize?"
"I will never give her to you! Monster! Fiend! You have haunted the memory of my family long enough!" Damn the blood book! No longer did she care if she lived or died, but she refused to admit defeat to this madman!
His eyes closed, tilting to one side slightly as if listening to a gentle melody. "Ah, you are a true Hellsing indeed. I once held great respect for your family. It will be an honor to end it with my own hands." He reached for the long sword hidden by his cloak, drawing it slowly. Integra tossed the book away, knowing she had long since lost her chance to cast it. The spell that would have placed him in eternal servitude to her family. No, it was a misbegotten idea to begin with. If she had truly desired to cast it, she would have a long time ago. But she didn't want to seal him. Oh no, she wanted to destroy him. Gritting her teeth, she readied her own blade, laughably tiny compared to his. A primal scream ripped from her lips as she charged him. Steel clashed against steel, sparks flying from the force of the metals colliding. Icy blue glared into heated red as she attempted to force back his sword. He smirked slightly, amused by her pathetic attempt at defying him. He easily pushed her back, slashing almost lazily with his sword. Integra tried to parry.
Shatter!
"Augh!"
Her saber shattered form the force of his attack, the metal flying in all directions as a sliver penetrated her left eye. She dropped the hilt of her ruined sword as she clutched at her eye, damaged beyond all saving. She sensed the foreboding aura of the monster towering above her. She refused to die on her knees as if begging for mercy. Ignoring the pain in her face, she staggered to her feet, glaring with her one eye at the man who had destroyed everything. He grinned down at her. "And so you have lost."
"Finish it then, and get this over with." She watched his raise the gleaming metal above his head. She closed her eyes, waiting for the coming blow.
"No!"
The force of a body slammed into hers and Integra ended sprawled across the tiled roof a few feet away. The slashing of a blade meeting flesh sounded across the suddenly silent roof and Integra opened her one good eye, horrified at what she saw. Seras had arrived. Seras had pushed her out of the way of the coming blade. And had taken the blow for her instead. She saw the shock play across the No-Life Kings face as bloody orbs met sapphire. A bloody trail slashed across the front of her body, dying the once pale fabric a bright vermillion. The attack had been so strong it had even sliced through what was left of a bullet proof vest to the pale skin below. He dropped his weapon just in time to catch the limp form of her foster sister as she lost the strength to stand.
"Seras!" Integra cried out, attempted to reach her sister but shadowy tendrils wrapped around her form, holding her in place. "No, let me go! Seras!"
He held her limp form, watching her struggle to breath. He trailed a gauntlet clad hand over a pale, blood stained cheek, meeting those guileless blue eyes. She was shivering from shock and blood loss, already the ground around them turning into a pool of the precious life-giving substance. There was sorrow in his gaze, though maybe only she could see it. "Why did you do something so foolish? You are dying now, do you understand this? Even if they got you to one of your human hospitals in time your organs have been too damaged to salvage."
She coughed, trying to clear her throat from the blood welling there. "I . . . c-couldn't let you . . . kill her. S-She's still . . .cough she's still m-my s-s-sister." She smiled slightly, lifting a shaking hand to trace his face lightly. "Y-you have a moustache. Right . . . there. I-It looks cough, cough . . . it l-looks good."
"Don't speak, fool." He held her almost delicately against his plate covered chest. He saw the fire to live in those cool orbs, saw the same fight in her that he'd had all those many centuries ago when he'd made the choice to become a creature of the night. "I can save you, but you will be changed for all eternity if I do. The choice is yours. Will you come with me?"
She had since lost the ability to speak but in her mind's eye she saw them. Her parents, the night they had been murdered. Saw the men gunning her father down until he was a riddled mess of bullet holes. Saw her mother, forever baring the face of untold terror as one of the bastards raped her corpse as she was forced to watch, a bloody mess lying against the wall as the blood drained from her small body. She'd become a police officer to get revenge on the one responsible for that night, the one responsible for her years of mental torment from memories that no good amount of therapy could save her from. She wasn't ready to die yet. And besides, if she wasn't there to keep an eye on him, who knew what sort of mayhem the immortal man holding her would subject the world to? So with a shaking hand, she reached out for him. And when she lost the strength to hold it up any more, he took it in his own. She distantly heard Integra calling out to her as the world around her slowly went black, though whether it was from finally losing consciousness or the shadows drawing around them, Seras wasn't sure. All she could see any more were the two fiery orbs of her King drawing closer as he revealed two rows of razor sharp teeth, drawing closer towards the pale column of her throat. And then it all turned to black.
Ambulances and other emergency response vehicles littered the once pristine Hellsing grounds. Walter stood next to one as a paramedic tended to the Wild Geese' captain, the man cursing loudly and regularly in French whenever one touched a rather tender wound or other injury. The night had gone eerily silent not too long ago, the ghouls that had still crawled upon the premises suddenly turning to dust before his very eyes. H knew something had happened, something momentous. He only wished he knew just what it was for sure. He worried for the two girls he had helped raise. He was sure Integra was still alive somehow, if only because she was too stubborn to die. But he worried for Seras even more. He knew, if only vaguely, what her plan had been. And he feared that she had finally gone through with it. A figure stumbled out of the broken doors of the mansion entrance and he immediately recognized the statuesque form of his current master. Before an officer could stop him he rushed forward, taking her into his arms just as she finally lost the will to stand.
"Sir Integra, are you alright? Good Lord, what has happened to your eye?"
Integra blinked dazedly up at him, as if just now seeing him for the first time. "Walter . . ."
"Here, let's get you to an ambulance and we can get you looked after." Wrapping an arm around a thin waist, he pulled one of her arms over his shoulder and helped her walk to the ambulance where Pip was being tended to. A paramedic immediately took charge of her, wrapping her in a blanket for the shock she was obviously experiencing as they checked her for injury. He could already tell she would need surgery for that eye, and would probably still lose it. Pip had since become aware of the Hellsing heir's presence and demanded answers.
"Oi, Integra, what the fuck happened on the roof? We saw crazy fucking shadows swarming all over the place before vanishing all together! And where is Mignonette—where is Seras?"
At the name, Integra froze entirely, untold sorrow filling her entire continence. Already knowing the answer, Walter placed a gentle hand on her shoulder, looking her straight in the eye. "Sir Integra . . . what has become of Miss Seras?"
"Seras . . ." She licked her lips, struggling for the words. "S-Seras is . . . gone."
And for the first time since her father's death, she fell into his arms, crying for the unfairness of the world. And mourning the loss of the last true innocent she had left in her life. Seras Victoria.

And there it is. The Finale. The ending everyone has been waiting for. The tale has been told. It is done. Or is it? There are still unanswered questions left to find the solutions to my dearest readers~. What happens now that the No-Life King has won the battle AND the war? Will Integra be able to rebuild the life created for her by her predecessors? And what will become of Seras now that she has chosen to walk the night? Find out in the final installment for the long running SHADOWS OF MOONLIGHT~!
Integra: Did you REALLY have to add me losing an eye? I mean really?
Me: Well, you have to admit you look pretty bad ass with an eye-patch in the manga and OVA.
Integra: I suppose so.
Pip: Hey, what do you know, I survived!
Walter: I'm surprised all of us leading characters actually survived, so to speak. Unlike the poor NPC's who weren't even dignified with a name before becoming ghoul food.
Seras: Well, it was fun while it lasted. I'm a little sad to see it go.
Alucard: . . . *Fumes silently*
Me: What's the matter Alucard? Aren't you going to miss the story?
Alucard: Why have you not given me the smut scene like you promised before I said I would participate in this pathetic farce?
Seras: *sighs* Really, Master? This again?
Me: Well . . . there's still the epilogue?
Alucard: There better be something good, or else. *Cocks Jackal and Cassul*
Me: Erm . . . excuse me while I go get a pastport out of the country . . . or the planet. Until next time~! *Flees into the sunset*
