Memories & the Stone

"I'm telling you James," Lily said looking at her husband. "I know you trust all of your friends but I'm not quite sure I trust Sirius to watch Harry alone while we go out."

James smiled and laughed. "Lily we've trusted Sirius to raise Harry if anything were to ever happens to us. We have to trust Sirius to watch him sometime. Besides I would trust Sirius with my life."

"I don't know maybe we should ask Remus to watch him with Sirius." Lily said.

"Lily Remus is my friend but…" James said somberly his eyes downcast. "With everything that is happening I just can't trust Remus with my family or anything to do with it. The charm will be cast in a weeks' time and as of right now I have no intention of telling Remus anything. I don't want to tell anyone anything."

"Anyone?" Lily asked.

"Anyone." James confirmed. "You never know who you can trust in times like these."

"What do you mean? You don't think we can trust Dumbledore." Lily said.

"No what I mean is that friend or not I don't think I can trust Remus with any information regarding the safety of our family. Whether I like it or not Voldemort is recruiting dark beings and Remus is considered a dark being. I know he is my friend but I can't let him know any information about our location after the charm has been cast."

"James…"

"No Lily don't even go there. I trust Sirius with my life. I would die for him and he will die before he betrays my trust." James said. "Besides we've made the decision to make Peter the Secret Keeper. Sirius will place Peter in a safe house and check in on him every now and then."

Lily's eyes widened. "Peter?"

"Yes, Peter." James said. "Sirius and I both agree that it is the perfect plan. No one would ever think we would make Peter the Secret Keeper."

"I suppose." Lily agreed.

Harry opened his eyes and stared at the curtain surrounding him. He couldn't put his finger on it but something about that dream didn't sit well with him. Harry climbed out of bed and went over to his trunk and opened it.

He pulled out a piece of parchment and ink. He needed to write down this dream before he forgot anything.

He looked over at the clock on the dorm wall and it read five thirty in the morning. Everyone was still asleep. Harry looked around at all of his friends and decided since he couldn't sleep he could read the book that had arrived the other day.

It was an hour later when Harry closed the book and thought back to what he had read. He knew it was dangerous but he really wanted to learn this skill. He decided that he would get started now and just proceed carefully.

He decided that he would order the mandrake leaf so he could keep it in his mouth for a month. Harry knew it was something he wanted to do, because it was something that his father had done.

Neville and Hermione returned the day before term started and Hermione threw herself into review her friend's homework. She tried to review Harry's for him but he would not let her. Saying that he was going to pass or fail all on his own.

Harry's favorite part of school had also started back up, Quidditch. The Gryffindor Quidditch Captain, Oliver Wood had been working the team twice as they had been before the break. Not the Harry cared one little bit, he loved Quidditch and everything to do with it. It also helped that if they won the upcoming match again Hufflepuff, Gryffindor would overtake Slytherin in the House Championship.

He couldn't wait for the Gryffindor team to present the house cup to Professor McGonagall.

Even with the news that Snape would be refereeing the next match Harry told them that if they just did their best and played a clean game like they were supposed to they wouldn't have anything to worry about.

Weeks went by and soon the match was approaching fast. Potions lessons had turned into a sort of weekly torture in which Snape would almost stand over Harry's shoulder and critique his entire potion making process. As time went on Harry became more nervous for the upcoming match.

No one on the Gryffindor team were too calm about the upcoming match. On the day of the match Harry was sitting between Fred and George listening to Oliver give his pregame speech. Harry was doing his very best to listen to the speech but Fred and George were trying to lighten the mood.

As Harry picked up his broom and made to leave the locker room, Oliver grabbed his elbow and pulled him off to the side.

"Potter, I know that this match is a big deal and I don't mean to pressure you but…" Oliver said, "We need this win. With Snape referring this match we are relying on you to make this match a quick one. I know it's a lot to ask but do your best to catch the snitch quickly before Snape can favor Hufflepuff too much."

Harry nodded and told Oliver not to worry too much that Harry was going to make sure that he caught that snitch as quickly as possible. He didn't want to give Snape any more of a chance to do anything to give Hufflepuff any chance of winning. Harry knew that with a win they would overtake Slytherin in the cup. It was one thing Harry wanted more than anything, to hand the Quiddich Cup to his head of house. Of course it would be Oliver who would be handing the cup over but Harry would help Oliver get it into her hands.

In a few years Harry was determined to be the Captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch Team. He could already see it. Ron would be his Keeper; he would have liked Fred and George to be his beaters because with them they would be unstoppable. Instead he would have two young second or third years, one would be someone who hit a bludger so hard that it caused Harry to have a swelling the size of an egg. His chasers wood be Katie Bell who would still be in school along with Ginny Weasley who no matter what Harry tried to do never drifted far from his thoughts and Demelza Robins, one of Ginny's friends.

At least that is what Harry saw from his dreams. What he wanted to happen was to be made Captain as soon as Oliver left school after Harry's third year. Something told Harry that the possibility of being made Quidditch Captain in his fourth year were slim. Something would happen and there wouldn't be any Quidditch that year. He wasn't sure what but he doubted that the cup would be held that year.

What Harry wanted was a team made up of Fred, George, Ron, Alicia, Katie, and Ginny. Together they would be practically unstoppable. Unfortunately, Harry didn't think they would get that chance but sometime you can't help but dream and Harry was very good at dreaming.

Stepping out onto the pitch Harry took a deep breath before mounting his broom. He waited for Oliver and Hufflepuff Captain shake hands and for the Snitch to be released. Harry followed it with his eyes for as long as he could but soon it was gone and out of sight. Snape blew the whistle and all the players took to the skies.

Harry took off as fast as he could, he wanted to make sure he had the best chance at finding the snitch before Snape had too much of a chance to favor Hufflepuff. It was only a minute maybe two before he spotted the snitch. He smirked when he saw Snape on his broom right in between. He might as well have a bit off fun with it.

Heading for the Snitch Harry made sure to knock into Snape as he passed by but fast enough that he wouldn't be knocked off as well. Snape fell from his broom, before he knew what had happened Harry had caught the Snitch and ended the game. Dumbledore who was in attendance managed to catch Snape and lower him to the ground unharmed.

Harry jumped off his broom a few feet from the ground and was met by the rest of the Gryffindor team. Oliver slapped his back right before Fred and George lifted Harry off the ground and set him on their shoulders.

The team yelled and screamed, "We are in the lead!" as they carried Harry off towards the Gryffindor Common Room for a celebration.
