Ivoriel's POV

Moriel was very strange this evening. Especially when she did my dress up. She was a tad rough. But I never asked why.

She was going to the festival, in fact everyone was. I couldn't think of anything plausible enough why she is like this. Gwaenor, I noticed began to harbour somewhat ill feelings towards her. It is unheard of that he's has ever disliked someone.

Moriel had just left! She clearly wasn't in a very good mood. I let it go as I was finished getting ready. Hatholon had promised to escort me to the party. He was so sweet. We became fast friends when he got past his shyness. He even showed me some of his drawings! They were quite impressive. He was incredibly intelligent too. No wonder, he was one of the king's councillors. Yet he was so young… only a little older than Gwaenor.

A gentle tap on my open door broke me from my thoughts. Gwaenor stood there along with Hatholon. Both of them looking handsome, it appears that I had missed something. They were smiling widely for some reason.

"Come on Ivoriel! You look beautiful, please do not keep us waiting… it is torture." Gwaenor whined mockingly. I scoffed softly.

"You are just impatient to see Estennil." I teased, smiling delightedly. He looked slightly taken aback. Oh he didn't know I knew who he was going with. I giggled and checked myself one last time in the mirror. I wore a white dress that marginally reminded me of a snowflake. Even I had to admit that I looked good. I wore the necklace Thranduil gave to me, in fact I never took it off. I wore my hair down with a silver hairpiece that was in the shape of a leaf.

Gwaenor returned to talking with Hatholon. He never looked away from me, it made me slightly self-conscious. Such a gossip Gwaenor was.

Finally, we had arrived to the party. It was held among the courtyard. Which was very much like a huge garden. Lanterns were lit and put in the trees. It was very bright.

Music was being played by musicians and the caskets of wine had been opened already. Little elflings were dancing with other little ones or older elves.

People ate and drank and so the merry making began. Hatholon hooked his arm in mine. We bravely set off to socialise. I was already on my third glass of wine. I thoroughly enjoyed the taste.

"Would you like to dance?" Hatholon asked, watching the twirling dancing elves. They were all in their finery. Looking more like faeries in the light. I took Hatholon's hand. Which was very soft and smooth. He gracefully twirled me in sync with the others and we continued till the end of the song.

But unbeknownst to Ivoriel eyes were on them. A very jealous gaze trailed after Hatholon. Thranduil swirled his wine to each side of his glass. He was bored and unbelievably envious. Perhaps he had had too much wine this evening. He wanted to dance, to join in the celebrations. This may be the last for a while.

He decided to go for a walk among the trees. It was perfectly safe. A ridiculous amount of guards were patrolling the area. It would be hard for anything to get past them. At least he could get away from his councillors. He felt sick watching Hatholon touch Ivoriel and the way he made her smile.

He shook the thoughts away and took another swig of his wine. Why should he care? Who was she to him? A friend? Would could she ever be more than that. His heart swelled at the thought. Perhaps it was the port that suddenly made him feel lightheaded.

Suddenly it dawned on Thranduil. He loved her! Or perhaps it was the Dorwinion wine talking. Now that he thought about it there wasn't much he didn't like about her. Her eyes and smile were so open and genuine with happiness that anyone close by would find it contagious. He peered up towards the sky. Thranduil could faintly see the stars through the tree branches.

I could feel the tips of my ears burn. I need a breather. I have already had too much wine as it is. Far too much. I walked into the line of trees. They whispered softly among themselves. I felt myself touching the bark softly. My bare feet barely making a sound in the snow. The weight of my body never sinking an inch. I simply walked on top of the snow. I could still hear the music faintly.

"Ivoriel?" a voice said behind me. I knew who it was before I turned to see. I whirled around to see the king. By himself, which was a rare sight. But I doubt we were alone. There would have to be someone somewhere close.

I observed him quickly. He wore his usual robes. Though these ones were darker in colour and were more elegant than normal. I smiled up at him.

"My lord." I greeted pleasantly. He looked at me in mild surprise. Probably expecting me to call him by his name. But we had company amongst the trees a fair distance away. I could hear their soft murmuring.

"We are not alone…" I said quietly. He held his hand out for me to take and led us further away from any listening ears. To me Thranduil seemed a tad drunk. Not that I was perfectly sober either. His grip on my hand was a little firmer than I would have liked. I didn't like where this was going. We were both going to regret it, I knew it. I shouldn't be alone with him. Someone could be watching. But I was incapable of worrying over these thoughts as they were dulled.

"I am sorry! I should go back." With that said I dashed back towards the lights. Only a pair of thin hands captured me around the waist and pulled me back. My back hit something solid. At first I thought it was a Thranduil then I realised it was a tree. I could feel the rough bark dig into my skin. I could feel his hot breathe on my face. I turned my face away knowing he may regret this later.

He stole away my first kiss. His lips were soft and damp. He smelt of wine and the forest.

"I apologise! that was inappropriate of me." He said immediately after catching himself. I looked up into his face and smiled.

We remained in the same place for a while. Though more comfortably, his hair slightly tickled my face.

"Would you dance with me?" he asked after a while. I didn't really want to go back to the party. Even though Hatholon was probably looking for me. Yet I felt compelled to accept. One of his hands slid from my waist to my hand the other strayed to my hip. He seemed content just touching me. He started to sway us gently. The relaxing motion continuing for quite some time.

(Meanwhile)…

Gwaenor twirled Estennil and pulled her back to him. She looked painfully beautiful to him. He was as sober as can be, though he was drunk on her love. Her laughter was liquid. He could never remember when he had felt so happy. There were still so many elves present. The younger ones still there too. Some of them falling asleep others taking sneaky sips out of their parents goblet while they weren't looking. After though, they looked disgusted at the foul substance.

Later they had bumped into Hatholon on their way to somewhere quieter. They noticed his gaze elsewhere, as he had finally found Ivoriel. She had re-entered. From where he had no idea. But she looked as though she had had a lovely time. That's all that mattered to him. He could see she was tired though.

"Are you well, Ivoriel? Do you wish to retire?" he asked her gently. She nodded her head in agreement. Hatholon escorted her to her home. Neither spoke. As they both were exhausted from the evening. As they reached the door to her chambers. Hatholon kissed the corner of her mouth in a sweet farewell. 'By Eru what was with Ellons kissing me tonight!' although she knew he felt nothing about it. They were only friends parting in farewell for the night.

"Thank you, Hatholon." She replied quietly before passing him and entering into her chambers. He nodded once, a small smile lighting his face.

Little did she know someone was waiting for her. Preparing to give her a not so welcome back…

And done! What did you guys think? I would very much like to know… too much not enough?

Well that's that, now I'm going to pass out and faceplant on my bed :D

Until next time
