Chapter 14: Confused
Ranie and Angie were both completely awestruck, and not in a good way. Drake had seen the small commotion and had decided to see what was up. After he had seen what was happening, he couldn't help but smile a bit.
"Nice goin boys." Drake whispered to himself, before looking towards the two others, who were clearly a bit upset, stirring a bit of confusion within him.
He just looked towards Ranie and Angie with an eyebrow raised, as if waiting for them to fill him in on what they were thinking.
Angie quickly regained her composure the best that she could. "Heh good job indeed guys!" Her voice crackled a little bit. She had to turn away to hide her feelings.
Ranie just kept the same blank emotion on her face. She couldn't even begin to think of cracking a smile...she was too lost in deep thought. "I...I don't understand...what I'm feeling. I've been feeling this for so long, but...this...I...it's so much worse now..."
Angie could see that her sister was clearly as distraught as she had been...and wasn't as good at hiding it either. She quickly thought up something. "Uhh Drake...could you excuse the two of us please?"
He just looked at her with that same confused expression before nodding.
"Great! Uh, just...you go ahead back and we'll catch up after ok?" Her voice crackled a little more than before now. Any more talking and she would have most likely burst into tears.
"You two will be ok on your own?" He asked.
Angie just looked to her sister, then back at Drake, before nodding.
Drake turned around and begun heading back. "Alright I'll go back and tell th..."
Ranie turned her head towards Drake. "Please don't tell them we evolved..."
He could see now that something was clearly up, though he didn't want them to know he did...so he just nodded like before. As soon as Ranie and Angie turned around and began to walk the opposite direction of him...he decided to trail behind them to try and figure out what the problem was. Maybe there was another pokemon after them? Someone out to get them? Though he couldn't figure it out, he was going to be at close handjust in case shit would hit the fan.
After following them for only a short period of about 4 or 5 minutes, the two had come to a stop. He had done his best to move as close and as stealthily as possible, and succeeding. Ranie had sat down on a small rock close to the stream they had gotten the water from, with Angie following suit.
Drake had gotten into a battle stance, keeping a keen perception of the area, scanning...watching...waiting...
But nothing was happening, causing him to raise his eyebrow...until they began conversating a bit.
[Back By The Camp]
After a few seconds, Frank and Hayden had both pulled away from the kisses, confusing both May and Dawn a bit.
"I..Is something wrong Frank?" May asked.
"I'm sorry! We're we too pushy?" Dawn asked.
Frank just looked towards Hayden, as if he were trying to see if he had an answer, but clearly...he did not.
"I..." Frank searched his thoughts, looking at his surroundings, just trying to figure it out.
"No, you weren't." Hayden finally spoke.
Dawn let out an exasperated sigh. "Well...that's good th..."
"But..." Hayden trailed off.
"B...But?" Dawn looked a tad confused.
"It didn't feel...right." Hayden frowned a bit as he said this.
Frank looked up at May when he had heard what Hayden said. "Unfortunately, the same goes for me."
"I...I see." May hung her head down a bit.
Dawn just shook her head. "Did...did we do something wrong? I mean...we can wait until..."
"I just think it's best that we all stay friends. I'm sorry Dawn." Hayden looked a bit upset as well. It wasn't like he or Frank had wanted to do this.
"I agree. It's not that we don't want a girlfriend or anything...but..." Frank trailed off, trying to search for an answer to how he was feeling. "It's like they say girls...when you've found the right person...you just...know. Like, it's already there...you don't even have to think twice about if that person is meant for you or not. I don't know what it is that's keeping us from giving this a shot...but I know I just can't. I'm sorry." Frank looked away after he said this. He almost couldn't bear with the whole guilt trip.
Hayden was almost awestruck at Frank's sudden burst of wisdom. "Holy shit Frank...I don't think you could have said that any better." He whispered to himself.
The two girls just looked to each other, then back to the guys. Trying their hardest...they were able to crack a small smile before nodding. "We understand." They said in unison.
"Awesome! Sooo...friends?" Hayden asked, extending his hand. Frank had also followed suit.
Dawn and May both scooted their hands aside and locked the two in a big group hug.
"Friends." May smiled the best she could.
[Back By The Stream]
Angie had walked over to where Ranie was sitting in an attempt to comfort her. Ranie just looked up at her sister, before a small purple aura began to manifest around her head.
Angie looked shocked a bit. "Ranie? What are you..."
"So...you feel it too."
She looked extremely confused now. "Feel...what?"
"The same weird feeling that I do. The one that's making you sad."
Angie had caught on now, and attempted to hide it. "Oh? I'm not sad Raine. Why would you think..."
"I can feel your emotions. I know that you're feeling sadness right now."
"You can feel...well...that's new isn't it?" Angie chuckled.
"Angie..."
"Ugh! Okay fine. I am sad okay? I don't know why but...just seeing those two kissing the guys..." She turned away to hide the tears that were threatening to escape.
"I...I feel the same way."
The two had embraced each other in a much needed hug before Drake stepped out from behind the bushes.
"It's called jealousy." Said Drake.
"Oh jeez!" Angie jumped back almost falling over in surprise. "Don't scare me like that!"
"Drake? I thought you went back?"
"Well I was about to, until I had seen that there was something up between you two. I'm a little relieved honestly, I thought maybe something bad was going to happen to you two. "Drake shook his head a bit. "Anyways, like I was saying before...it sounds like the two of you are experiencing a little bit of jealousy for the first time."
"We're not jealous! I mean...at least I don't think we are...what does that even mean?" Angie asked.
"Uhhh...well...It's kind of like this...when you see someone else doing something with a person that you want to do that specific thing with...you get jealous." Said Drake.
"What!? But I don't wanna kiss Frank!" Angie turned beat red.
Drake just smirked. "Who said anything about Frank? It could have been been Hayden or...anybody else really."
Ranie began to glow that same purple aura before letting out a small gasp. "Angie! You...You're lying..."
Angie began to blush even more before throwing her hands up into the air. "Ugh...what's the point. Okay, so maybe I've thought about it once or twice alright? I'm sure Ranie has too though!"
Ranie just shot her a glare before turning her head and blushing.
"So...let me get this straight...you two are jealous of Dawn and May, right?" Drake asked.
Ranie just looked towards Angie before turning back to Drake, and nodding.
"I...I guess we are...yeah." Said Angie.
Drake nodded his head. "Uhuh, I see...And the reason that you two are jealous, is because you both have feelings for the guys that go beyond friendship, correct?"
"Yeah...I guess that we do..." Angie turned away out of embarrassment.
"You realize that Hayden and Frank are our trainers, as well as our friends...correct?" Drake raised an eyebrow.
"Y..Yes? Why?" Angie asked.
Drake just scoffed a bit. "So just tell them."
"WHAT? Are you crazy? They would tell us to go away! They's probably disown us!" Angie threw her arms around again.
"We can't expect them to approve of this, Drake." Ranie said with a slight hint of dissappointment.
"Oh? And how do you know that? Have you two told them how you feel?" Drake cocked his head to the side.
"No...we said we weren't going to..."
"My point exactly." Drake interrupted. "How will you know if you gon't give it a shot? Look...Hayden and Frank are very understanding people, especially for humans. I actually think that the two of you should have a talk with them about this."
"There is no reason. They both obviously see more than friendship in Dawn and May." Ranie tried her hardest to keep the tears from showing again.
"That's no reason that you two can't at least tell them." Said Drake.
Angie looked down at the ground. "But..."
"Just at least give it some thought...okay? I'm not forcing you two onto any of this...I'm just trying to help is all." Drake smiled slightly.
Ranie was finally able to crack a small smile, knowing that Drake only had good intentions. "We will."
"Of course. But...we should really be getting back. It's been over 30 minutes at least." Drake turned around and began walking back to their camp before looking over his shoulder back at the girls. "You coming?"
They both just nodded before getting up and following him back to the camp.
After a short walk, the three had finally made it back. Ranie couldn't quite figure out what it was that was causing it, but she could feel nothing but sad, gloomy emotions from the four around the campfire.
"Why do they all look so...upset? Are they sad now too?"
"Alright, we're back." Drake began setting the water down next to the backpacks.
"Oh..thanks bu..." Hayden's eyes shot open wide when he saw the new white and green pokemon standing next to Drake.
Frank caught attention of this and looked over to Drake as well, giving off the same expression when catching attention of the now much taller bunny pokemon.
"R...Ranie? Is that...you?" Hayden asked, a tad nervous.
"Did you girls evolve?!" Frank said in a very ecstatic tone.
The two girls tried their best to ignore the previous events and put on their best smiles that they could. At least they were still happy about evolving and everything, right?
"We did!" Angie smiled.
"Do you like it?" Ranie did a small twirl, causing what looked to be her new white/green skirt like object to raise a bit in the wind.
Hayden and Frank had both turned away a bit, hiding the blush that had been forming on the both of them.
"Wow! You two are absolutely gorgeous!" May exclaimed.
"You two really look stunning!" Dawn gave them both a hug, startling them a bit at her sudden embrace, though it just caused them to eventually smile harder.
"Thank you...really. It means a lot!" Angie smiled.
"No problem girls!" Dawn smiled back.
May let out a huge yawn. "Well...I'm beat. You guys ready for bed?"
Everyone looked to one another and nodded quickly.
"Hey uh...you guys go ahead and get comfortable. I'm gonna talk to Hayden real quick." Frank pulled his best friend to the side.
"Oh uh okay...we're gonna go ahead and get some rest okay?" May pointed to the tents.
Frank looked over his shoulders as he was walking away. "Alright sounds good, we won't take long!"
"Something wrong bro?" Hayden asked.
Frank had finally come to a stop, halting Hayden as well. "Dude...I'm not sure if you have in the past ten minutes, but...uh...have you taken a good look at Ranie and Angie?"
"I mean yeah...they evolved. We all can see that clearly. Why?" Hayden asked.
"No...I mean...well yeah, but have you like, actually looked at them well?" Frank was clearly trying to hint at something.
Hayden looked extremely confused now. "Where are you going with this bro?"
Frank let out a long exasperated sigh. "Well, now I know that I'm probably the only one who thinks this since I noticed it."
Hayden cocked his eyebrow. "Noticed what?"
"That they're really hot now." Frank turned a bit in embarrassment.
"Oh...that! Dude! You thought that too?" Hayden shouted.
Frank immediately shot a look towards Hayden. "You mean you don't think it's weird that I think that?"
Hayden shook his head. "No dude I totally agree! I didn't want to say anything because I thought that you'd think it was weird!"
"And I didn't wanna say anything because I thought that YOU would think it was weird!" Frank laughed.
"I know! But...man, seriously? Why are they so hot now? They're pokemon! They shouldn't look that good!" Hayden paced back and forth.
"Gahh. I don't know man...why are we even thinking this? They're our pokemon for God's sake! They'd never speak to us again if they knew we thought that about them!" Frank tried to shake the thought from his mind.
"Yeah...you're right. Look, let's just forget about this whole thing okay? They're still our pokemon so why should we treat them any differently than before right? It'll all be fine!" Hayden smiled.
"Yeah...but maybe a little more awkward than before now." Frank chuckled.
"Nah, it's all good. I think it'll just take some getting used to ya know?" Hayden began walking back to camp.
Frank had begun to follow suit. "Yeah man...you're right."
When the two had gotten back to camp, Dawn and May had set up their own tent next to Hayden and Frank's and were already knocked out. Ranie and Angie had just been laying on the ground next to May and Dawn's tent.
Hayden smiled at the two. "You girls ready to go to b..."
"We're just gonna sleep out here tonight." Ranie didn't even much as look at them.
"Uh...o...okay that's fine. You sure you two want to?" Hayden asked.
"Yes. Thanks." Even through telepathy, Ranie sounded a bit...off.
"Alright, that's fine I guess." Hayden began to climb into his tent. "Hmmm, wonder what's up with her?"
Frank followed shortly after, climbing into his tent and getting comfortable. "Ahhh. Night bro."
"Night man." Hayden snuggled up to his pillow before drifting off to sleep.
[The Next Day]
After everyone had awoken, packed their bags, and gathered their things, they had continued on their short journey to Cerulean...though this part of the trip was quite a bit different than the first. Besides Hayden and Frank talking to each other and joking around a bit at first, nobody had really said anything the rest of the way. So many mixed emotions had been flying around, it was really driving Ranie crazy, since the Ralts line generate some of their feelings from the way others around them feel.
After another hour or so of walking, they had finally made it to Cerulean. After coming up to May and Dawn's new house, they had all helped the two unpack their things and get settled in best that they could.
"Thanks for helipng us with this guys, really." May smiled.
"It's definitely appreciated." Dawn added.
"Nahh it's no problem. We're always glad to help!" Hayden said as he hugged Dawn.
May hugged Frank as well. "Keep in touch guys, okay?"
Frank just nodded. "Will do!"
After they had said their goodbyes, it was time to head back home for a little more well deserved time off from all the hard training they had been at. After a few hours of walking, their two pokemon still had barely even looked up from the ground the whole time, worrying the two trainers a bit.
"Ranie...is everything alright?" Hayden asked.
"Yeah what's up with you two? You guys usually can't stop talking!" Frank joked around.
"We're sorry, we'll try to talk a little less from now on." Angie still hadn't taken her eyes off of the ground when she said this.
"No no! I didn't actually mean it...it was just supposed to be...*sigh* nevermind, I'll just shut up now." Frank's smile had immediately went away.
Hayden had still been waiting on an answer from his pokemon "Ranie..."
"I'm fine Hayden."
He didn't seem too reassured. "Are you sure? I just want to make sure you..."
"I said I'm fine." She actually looked up at him this time. Saying it in a much more 'just drop it already' type manner.
"Okay, okay. I'm sorry" Hayden had turned back facing forward again. "Jeez. What the hell is her problem?"
