Chapter 14: Lost in You

Kim and Jerry sat on the couch, eyes on whatever was playing on the TV but minds elsewhere. Turning to face his sister, Jerry spoke up.

"Don't you have some homework to do or something?"

Kim raised an eyebrow and folded her arms across her chest. "Don't you have a job to find?"

Jerry rolled his eyes. "Thanks for reminding me." He mumbled.

Kim sighed. "You'll find something, Jerry."

Jerry looked at her. "How can you be so sure?"

Kim smiled. "Jerry, if the two of us have lasted this long on our own without burning the house down, finding a job should be a walk in the park."

Jerry cracked a smile. "I guess you're right."

Hearing her phone buzz in the pocket of her jeans, Kim pulled it out and focused her eyes in on the screen. Rika had sent her text, and it was pretty obvious it had been written hastily.

"Brody and I are headed out of town. Probs won't be back til morn."

Kim's eyebrows furrowed. That was strange. Where would the two of them be going on such short notice and outside of Seaford?

Noticing his sister's troubled expression, Jerry raised his eyebrows.

"Is everything okay?"

"Um, yeah." Kim nodded. "Everything's fine."

Despite her words, she wasn't so sure.

She ran a hand through her hair and glanced out the window away from her brother. Her eyes widened. If Brody was going to be with Rika tonight, that meant Jack would be alone.

There was something she needed to do, and as soon as Jerry was asleep, she was prepared to sneak out.

Wandering down the sidewalk in the eerie silent of the night, Kim crossed her arms across her chest, shivering silently from the chilly, brisk breeze sweeping through the empty streets. She'd been living in Seaford all her life, and yet, she still forgot how much the temperature could drop come nightfall.

All the way to the Brewer's, Kim had been trying and failing to come up with something to say when she arrived. So, the moment the house came into her view and she began to approach the front door, she felt her stomach twist.

However, she knocked on the door despite her fears and lack of preparation and waited. She wasn't even sure why she was there exactly. She just needed to talk to Jack.

Before she could change her mind about her senseless and spontaneous visit, her ears picked up the faint sound of his footsteps approaching the door. And not a second later, the door opened, revealing Jack.

The moment his eyes focused in on the girl standing on his doorstep and his mind registered that, his eyes widened.

What was she doing here…?

Of course she would end up stopping by when Brody was off with Rika to meet the werewolves. There was no chance of rescue. It was just him and her, all alone.

Before he lost himself in her eyes, Jack went to shut the door, but Kim wedged her foot between the door and wall.

"Wait." Kim finally spoke up.

"Brody's not here." Jack managed to say, reluctantly looking at her.

"I know. I'm here to see you."

Jack averted his eyes from hers and mentally cursed.

"Look," He began, finding her eyes again. "I don't know what you want from me, but now's not a good time."

Kim looked deep into his eyes. "I just wanna talk."

After a moment, something in her eyes managed to change Jack's mind. "Fine." He sighed, hesitantly opening the door for her.

Kim glanced at him before tentatively making her way inside. Jack closed the door and shut his eyes for a moment, already regretting his decision to let her in.

Taking a deep breath, he reopened his eyes and followed Kim into the living room. As she entered the room, she wasn't sure what to do or say, so she turned to face him.

Jack pursed his lips, rubbing the back of his neck nervously with his hand. "Do you want something to drink?"

"Um, no thanks." Kim replied. "I'm good."

The room fell silent again, neither of them knowing what to say.

"I'll uh, be right back." Jack finally spoke up. "Make yourself at home."

Kim nodded.

Jack wandered down a hallway, mentally shaking his head at himself.

Make yourself at home?

Leaning back against the wall, he brought his hands to his hair and closed his eyes. God, he really needed to get his shit together.

A few moments passed before he decided he should be getting back. He paused right before he reached the room though, his eyes falling on the girl he loved.

She wasn't doing anything really, just wandering around the room and taking in her surroundings, observing the paintings on the walls and the fire crackling at the far end of the room. Before he could stop it, his mind drifted off.

It was just a normal night, the fire burning bright in the fireplace and Jack and Kim snuggled up on the couch, her back resting against his chest.

"You seem really tense." Jack spoke up. He raised an eyebrow even though she couldn't see him. "Hard day at school?"

"Yeah," Kim replied. "This girl Lindsay has made her life's goal to make my life a living hell. She seriously needs to find something better to do with her time. And don't even get me started on my friend Grace…"

Jack smiled. The tendency of this girl to go on and on was kind of amusing.

"It doesn't matter…what I do…she just won't…listen to…me…" Kim struggled to continue her rant, trailing off as she felt Jack's hands messaging her shoulders.

Her eyes fluttered shut.

His smile growing, Jack whispered, "I'm sorry, what were you saying?"

Kim had to bit her lip to keep from smiling. "Nothing." She whispered back, raising her hands and tangling her fingers into his hair.

"Jack?"

The sound of Kim's voice brought him out of the memory. Shaking his head and blinking his eyes, he looked over at her.

"You've been staring at the wall…" Kim raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah, I um," Jack pursed his lips. "I was just thinking about something."

Kim nodded, an unsure expression on her face.

"So, uh," Jack began, walking into the room and taking a seat on the couch. "What did you want to talk about?"

Kim hesitantly took a seat at the far end of the couch and didn't respond right away. She looked up from her lap and over at him, instantly falling into his eyes.

Then, it was as if her mind was flooded with an intense rush of memories. Picking up right where her dreams had left off in the story, everything replayed itself inside her head – every touch, every kiss, every moment she had with him…

"You're not going to remember any of this…" Jack spoke, his voice breaking and trembling, his eyes watering.

Kim stared back at him, unable to move and all her attention focused in on him, her soft, brown eyes fixed into his glassy, red ones.

"You're not going to remember meeting me at the carnival last summer…" Jack somehow continued. "You found the Ferris wheel all on your own…" He whispered, smiling sadly. "You're not going to remember…me."

"Kim?"

She felt her heartbeat pick up its pace and met his eyes.

Jack raised an eyebrow, feeling his heart pound. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"I-I remember." Kim whispered.

Jack's eyes widened. "You remember what?"

Kim had no idea how long she just looked at him, finding herself lost in his eyes. He wasn't just the boy in her dreams anymore; he never was. He'd been the boy she loved, the boy she thought she could trust.

"...You." She replied at last, her voice small and eyes looking away from his. She just couldn't believe it.

"You-you remember me?" Jack stuttered, his eyes searching for hers.

The moment Kim's troubled gaze met his, she stood up from the couch and backed away from him.

Jack slowly got to his feet. "Kim-"

"I remember it all." Her voice crumbled, her eyes watering.

"Kim, let me explain-"

"I loved you." Kim reluctantly returned her eyes to his.

Jack looked away and closed his eyes for a moment, her words striking him right in his heart.

"Why did you...how did you...?" Kim kept stumbling over her words, her mind seemingly unable to process anything. He had erased her memories.

"I told you that I wasn't afraid of you!" She exclaimed, hurt etched into every word. "You asked me if this was what I really wanted, and I…I said yes..."

"Kim, I," Jack was at a loss for words, running his hands through his hair. "I never meant to hurt you-"

"Don't." Kim whispered. Her mind was racing, her heart was clenching, and she felt sick.

"Kim, I'm so sorry." Jack's voice lowered below a whisper as he struggled to keep his voice from breaking, to hold his tears back.

"I love you so much." Jack whispered, cursing himself again and again for what he did to her. He shook his head slowly. "So much."

Kim avoided his eyes, knowing she was unable to trust herself once she was lost in them.

"You have to believe me." Jack practically begged. He reached out his shaking hand and placed it on her cheek. Instantly, his hand stopped trembling, the feeling of her settling and calming him down.

Kim wanted to rip his hand off her. She wanted to scream. But his touch was so warm. Her memory had been gone for more than a month. She had unknowingly been without him for all those days. In that moment, she needed comfort only found in his touch.

Her eyes fluttered shut, and she leaned into his hand. A tear escaped her eye, sliding down her cheek until being caught by Jack's thumb. His eyes never left her face, the face he never thought he'd be able to touch again. His breathing was ragged and shaky.

"I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry." Jack repeated. "I love you so much."

He brushed his thumb tenderly against her cheek. "More than I've ever loved anyone."

Kim couldn't even begin to describe the betrayal she felt inside. She felt like such a foolish girl. Yet, she couldn't deny that her feelings hadn't changed. She still loved him, still needed him.

Slowly, tentatively, she opened her eyes. Just like the night she had first met him, his golden brown gaze didn't frighten her; it lured her in, sending her mind back into forgotten memories.

Her memory had been erased, so she hadn't been able to miss him. With all of the emotions locked up inside and hidden from her now returned to her so suddenly, her body was flooded with an intense desire for him.

Her eyes fell to his lips. Without thinking, she lunged forward, pressing her lips to his. Startled, Jack's eyebrows rose, but his state of surprise quickly faded. The second her lips crashed onto his, his eyes closed, needing her as much as she needed him.

His hands instantly found her waist, craving to be closer to her while one of Kim's hands slid from his cheek to cradle the back of his head. Feeling her fingers tug on and tangle in his hair, Jack's hands fell down her sides and under her thighs, lifting her up as her legs hooked around his waist. Kim gasped against his lips, the feeling of being pressed so close to him taking her by surprise, before moving hers along his jaw and down his neck.

Jack tilted his head to the side, his mouth opening slightly as Kim felt small vibrations against her lips. Normally, she would've smiled at the reaction she was receiving from him, but right now, she was too lost in having his strong arms hold her up against him to think of anything else.

Struggling to keep his eyes open, Jack stumbled his way down a dimly lit hallway and into his room, Kim in no way protesting.

Their breathing was heavy, their eyes closed and foreheads touching. Leaning his head down, Jack found her lips again.

Carefully, he lowered her down onto his bed, his hands sliding up her waist and fingers slipping under the soft material of her shirt as he gently pressed his body down on hers. Kim's hands traveled from his hair to his cheeks, her mind spinning.

They had needed this for so long, and now that they were finally able to have it, it seemed they just couldn't get enough of each other, their hands frantically searching the other and pulling their bodies even closer.

Needing to feel more of his skin, Kim's hands slid down his chest, reaching the hem of his shirt. Her fingers began lifting up the soft material. Leaning forward, she pressed a tender kiss just above his abs.

Jack groaned lowly at the feeling of her soft lips against his skin. Pulling his shirt the rest of the way up and over his head, he lifted her off the sheets and onto his lap, one of his hands sliding up her back and under her shirt. His other hand trailed up her side, his fingers clutching the hem of her shirt.

Gathering her arms above her head, Jack lifted her shirt up and tossed it to the side.

Faces only inches apart, Kim's eyes fell into his. Her heart was pounding, one of her hands on his chest and the other resting on his cheek.

All Jack could seem to do was look at her, taking in every speck of color in her mocha brown eyes, every strand of her silky, blonde hair, every inch of her skin. He'd seen her every night in his dreams, never believing he could ever be with her like this.

His eyes were wide, yet soft and caring.

After a moment of just gazing into hers, Jack leaned forward, capturing her lips in another kiss and pressing her back onto the sheets. Kim's hands slipped up into his hair, her eyes fluttering shut.

...

Jack broke away, his mouth nearly touching hers. His forehead rested against hers for a moment as heavy breaths escaped their lips. Lifting his forehead slightly off hers, his eyes opened. His golden gaze was instantly lost within the depths of her mocha brown orbs.

Kim brushed his slightly damp hair away from his eyes before resting the back of her trembling hand against his cheek. Her soft finger tips trailed along his defined jaw and down his neck until she reached his bare chest. She paused at his heart, feeling the familiar rhythmic beating. Jack closed his eyes, his lips slightly parted, and breathed out his nose as the feeling of her touch spread through his body.

He reopened his eyes and instantly lost himself in hers again. His hand left her waist, moving to hold her hand resting over his heart.

With his fingers intertwining into hers, Jack leaned forward to press a kiss on her lips. Just before his lips brushed against hers, he stopped for a moment and hovered over them. Suddenly, he was so afraid of hurting her.

Rubbing his thumb against the back of her hand on his chest, he kissed her softly, leaving a lingering tingle on her lips.

The Volcanic Archipelago Harbor Forest was named after the four-island archipelago located just off the Californian Coast. Long before the creation of supernatural beings, only one of those islands existed.

One day however, the volcano that had formed the island erupted, resulting in the formation of its three surrounding sister islands. In time, those islands would have a volcano of their own, which – as the legend goes – would finally give life to the first werewolf (Ash), vampire (Milton) and mystic (Rika) at nearly the same moment as Olivia Holt's birth in the central island's volcano.

To this day, the islands remained mostly uninhabited, the first four beings having migrated to the main land not long after their creation. And even though the harbor consisted of a large population and major shipping port, the forest off to the side and particular spot where Rika and Brody were to meet, wasn't often explored since the olden days. Although that was the region Rika had chosen to begin her life, she hadn't been there for three thousand years.

Needless to say, she was a little nervous. And the fact that she'd be meeting with Ash's sister after all these years wasn't helping.

Well, Ash and Claire weren't exactly blood-related.

Back when Ash was caring and sane – yes, there was a time when he hadn't yet lost his mind – he had taken Claire in. Over the years, he protected her, and somehow the bond they had formed turned her into a werewolf. When they met other people, it was assumed that they were siblings. And from then on, they thought of each other as nothing less.

Together, those two were a force to be reckoned with, and Rika sure as hell knew that.

As she and Brody made their way through the brush of the lush and thick woods, she went on and on about what their plan should be, unaware that he wasn't listening. He just couldn't seem to stop thinking about his brother and everything he had said, all the things he had been feeling.

"…and even though she's Ash's sister, as long as we approach with caution and don't do anything stupid, we should be –"

"Jack is in love with Kim." Brody cut her off, speaking for the first time in probably the last five minutes or so since Rika started talking.

His words catching her completely off guard, Rika's eyes widened. "What?"

Ignoring her confusion, Brody asked, "Is that why you didn't want me to go out with her?"

"I…yeah…" Rika was at a loss for words. "How did you…?"

Brody looked away. "Jack and I were talking before you came in, and he told me."

"Oh." Was all Rika could seem to say.

After a moment, she found her voice. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you. I just– "

"Thank you."

Rika knitted her eyebrows together. "For what?"

"You and my brother obviously don't hate each other anymore. " Brody managed a smile. "He needed someone he could trust, and that person was you."

Before Rika had the chance to respond, a rustling in the forest reached her ears. She put her arm out, stopping Brody from taking another step.

"Wait. Listen."

A few moments passed, their hearts racing, and nothing happened. Tentatively, Rika stepped forward. The second her foot made contact with the ground, the forest around them seemed to light up. From all around them, people emerged from the forest, torches in hand.

Brody and Rika subconsciously moved closer to each other.

Among all the werewolves, one stepped out from the others and approached the vampire and mystic.

"Rikania, it's nice to see you." Claire smiled. "Haven't seen you since you broke my brother's heart."

Rika's body stiffened.

Brody's eyes widened and he turned to look at her. "You and Ash?"

Rika met his gaze but didn't respond.

Turning back to face Claire, Rika tore her eyes from Brody's and folded her arms across her chest.

"Don't act so surprised I knew about you two." Claire continued. "You weren't exactly discrete, considering that you fucked him in his bedroom while I was hosting his and Liv's engagement party in the other room."

Brody's eyes widened even more and he couldn't look away from Rika. She avoided his eyes though, not wanting to see the look of disappointment in them.

"But never mind that," Claire went on. "We have more important matters to discuss."

"How can we be so sure this isn't a trap?" Rika questioned, narrowing her eyes at Claire.

"My dear Rika, if this was a trap, there wouldn't be much you could do at this point, would there?"

Rika glared at her.

"Besides, who are you to be questioning me? One snap of my fingers and your little vampire friend here will suffer an excruciatingly painful death, courtesy of a werewolf bite."

Rika felt her heart clench, the mere thought of losing Brody hitting her like a ton of bricks. She felt him tense beside her.

"That's what I thought." Claire smirked after successfully frightening the both of them, but mostly Rika. "Anyways, we have surrendered, but my brother, the messed up little fuck that he is, just can't let the damn sacrifice go."

Rika and Brody nodded in understanding.

"Being the nice person that I am," Rika rolled her eyes at that. "I figured I'd let you know he has a plan. Ash is crazy, but he's smart and damn clever, and once he lays his eyes on a prize, he'll die before he lets it slip through his fingers."

Claire paused for a moment.

"My brother certainly doesn't have one of us held captive and most likely not a mystic nor vampire to complete the sacrifice, but he's still hungry for Crawford's blood - if not for the power he originally seeked, for the chance to witness that poor girl burn alive in the volcano."

Rika and Brody turned to look at each other, their eyes flashing with fear.

"He could strike at any moment." Claire informed them. "So, if I were you, I'd get my ass back to Seaford."

Her eyes fluttering open into the morning sunlight of the room, Kim looked at the boy beside her. He was sleeping soundly, his brown hair ridiculously messy yet somehow still adorable. Kim nearly smiled.

She just couldn't trust him anymore. And the more she stared at him, the more she felt her heart clench.

Deciding to sneak out before he woke, she carefully slipped out of the sheets and got to her feet, wearing only her underwear and Jack's loose-fitting shirt as she searched for her jeans and long-sleeved sweater. She slid his shirt up and over her head and placed it on the bed. Once she was dressed in her clothes and had thrown on her tattered converse, she stole one more glance back at Jack before slipping out of the room.

She didn't get far though.

"Kim..."

She froze but managed to slowly and tentatively turn back around. And there he was, shirtless and only wearing his sweatpants with a feign, sad look on his face. Suddenly, her anger resurfaced, her heart feeling as if it was breaking all over again.

"Rika was right about you." She snapped. "I can't believe I trusted you over her."

After sending a glare his way, Kim turned and headed for the door.

But he followed her. "Kim-"

Whipping back around, she looked him right in the eyes. "Just leave me alone, okay?"

Knitting his eyebrows together, he began to protest, "But last night-"

"Last night was..." Her voice started strong but faded. God, what even was last night? Somehow, she hadn't thought about it until now.

The way he touched her, the way it felt to be pressed so close to him…

It was all a lie though - everything he had ever said, the feelings he had for her. She meant nothing to him. All she had ever been was a naïve girl who had fallen hard for his charm and all his sick games.

Despite her efforts to act tough and as if she wasn't hurt, she felt her eyes tear up when she met his gaze. His eyes…god, even the love she used to see in them, the adoration he would look at her with, it was all lies.

Jack ran a hand through his hair, the mere thought of what he was about to ask almost too much for his heart to take. "Are you saying it didn't mean anything?"

Kim narrowed her now watering, red eyes at him. "That's exactly what I'm saying." Her voice was shaky.

Jack shook his head, his eyes desperate. "Kim-"

"Your plan to get rid of me didn't work out," Kim cut him off and brought her hands to her hair. "So you thought why not use me one last fucking time! That's the only damn thing that last night meant, Jack." Her voice broke, lowering to a whisper. "It was just you using me again." She brought her hand up to her mouth, shutting her eyes and allowing her tears to stream down her cheeks.

His eyes glassy, Jack felt his heart fall to the bottom of his chest. The sight of the girl he loved in so much pain, so lost and confused, was something he'd never forget.

"Kim, I never used you," He began softly yet shakily, taking a step towards her.

Kim's eyes widened, tears still falling. "Stop lying." She took a step back.

Jack ignored the pain clenching in his heart from her words and took another step forward. "I never used you." He repeated, tears nearly escaping his eyes.

"Stop lying." Kim raised her shaky voice slightly. As she backed up again, she felt the cold wall press against her back.

"I never used you." Jack repeated for the third time, his face a few inches from her hers and voice nearly inaudible.

Kim held his gaze, her trembling body trapped between his and the wall.

"The first time I looked into your eyes," He brought his hand to his heart. "There was this feeling coursing through me that I didn't understand."

Jack wasn't sure how he managed to hold a composed expression on his face. If he was being honest, he had never felt so broken up inside.

"The first time I heard you laugh, that same strange feeling was still there." He nearly smiled at the mere thought of her laughter ringing in his ears. "It was growing, but I still didn't understand it."

As the words left his mouth, Jack had subconsciously leaned closer.

"And the first time I kissed you, that feeling consumed me." His voice lowered to a whisper. "I lost myself in you."

A tear slipped down Kim's cheek, and her eyes never left his.

"And last night," Jack began, his voice trembling. "That feeling consumed me."

Jack brought his hands to her cheeks and rested his forehead against hers. His eyes closed.

"I lost myself in you."

For the past seven hours or so, Rika and Brody were silent as they made their way back to his house, neither of them daring to utter a word.

Finally though, Brody couldn't take the silence. "You and Ash?"

Rika ignored him, picking up her pace, the house now in sight.

"Hey," Brody began, grabbing her arm and forcing her to look at him. "We need to talk about this."

Rika nodded, smiling sarcastically. "Sure," She started. "Kim has never been in more danger, but instead of letting Jack know and then finding her, you want to waste fucking time and reprimand me on the mistakes I made three thousand years ago with that bastard?"

That shut Brody right up.

Rolling her eyes, Rika muttered, "You're unbelievable." before brushing passed him and making her way to the Brewer's front door.

Brody sighed, catching up to her. "I'm sorry." He apologized before she opened the door.

Rika folded her arms across her chest and looked away.

"I just didn't expect that from you."

Rika glared at him. "What? That I'm a slut?"

Brody gave her a look, silently telling her that's not what he meant.

"Believe me, Brody, I already know. First a married, psychotic killer and now illegally going out with Kim's older brother, I'm on a role." She muttered, sarcasm dripping from her words.

Brody raised an eyebrow. "Wait, you're with Jerry?"

Rika sighed. "It's a long story, a story we don't have time for. Now let's go."

Realizing Rika was right, Brody reluctantly agreed and followed her inside, down the hallway and into the living room.

They both froze, their eyes falling on Jack and Kim, his arms wrapped tightly around her and her face buried into his bare chest, both of their eyes closed.

Rika placed a hand on Brody's shoulder, knowing how he must be feeling. He didn't look at her though, his eyes seemingly forever stuck on the two of them hugging like they'd be ripped away from each other the moment they loosened their hold on the other.

Kim's eyes opened, the side of her head still resting on Jack's chest. Her eyes widened and she began to pull away from him.

"Brody…" She whispered.

Jerry was sleeping peacefully…

…until some idiot decided to knock on the front door so freaking early in the morning.

Groaning, he rubbed his groggy eyes and staggered his way out of his room, down the hallway and finally through the living room and kitchen to the door. He wasn't even sure if he was wearing a shirt. He was probably just in his sweatpants.

Whatever.

If this annoying jerk couldn't give him the decency to wake him up at a later hour, they didn't deserve the decency of himself fully dressed.

Still wiping the sleep from his eyes and running a hand through the mess of hair on his head, he opened the door, his voice raspy. "Can I help you?"

"Actually, no." A menacing smirk played on Ash's lips. "But I can help you."

Jerry raised an eyebrow. "Bro, I have no idea who the hell you are. I'm gonna go back to sleep." He mumbled, nearly closing the door on him.

"Oh, so, you don't want to see your father again?"

Jerry's eyes shot wide open and he turned back around, his eyes narrowing and heart pounding.

"My father?"

Okay, another frickin' long chapter. Guys, I think there's something wrong with me…

Or maybe my outline skills just suck. Yeah, it's probably that.

Only two chapters left, guys! Two chapters!

Well, maybe three…

I told you I'm awful at outlines.

Anyways, now that all five of Jack and Kim's forgotten memories have been revealed, which one is your favorite?
