Chapter 14: Kidnapped

A month has passed since I woke up from my coma and decided to keep my baby. I am eight weeks pregnant. I came home three weeks ago. The war is still going on. I have started speaking again, kinda. I still stutter sometimes, but I can say words without stuttering. I speak slowly, though, and with short sentences. If I want or need something I just say what I want or need. My parents and grandma are still helping me though, my grandma doesn't fight, my parents do but not much. They're more like leaders, they are leaders. So are their friends. The rest of my family.

I think it's so there is little chance of any of them leaving me. So I don't have to go through this alone. And I'm grateful. I know the rest of Dauntless and the other factions don't mind because they know what happened to me.

My grandma stays with me, at home, so I'm never alone.

There are also guards standing outside the apartment door so only known people can get into the apartment.

At the moment my grandma and I are on the sofa, watching a film.

"Do you need anything Hope? I'm just going to get a drink." She asks as she stands.

"No, thank you." I say, slowly.

She nods and leaves the room, entering again a few minutes later with a glass of orange juice in her hand.

We continue watching the film for a while, before the TV turns black.

But it isn't black for long.

Jeanine Matthews appears on the screen before us.

"Hello, people of the city. I know we are fighting a war right now but we have come to a point where we are ready to surrender. Well, in a way. If you hand over to us Hope Eaton we will end the war, we will back down. She is all we need. She is what we are fighting for. Hand her over and we will stop fighting. She is the key to ending this war so I suggest you hand her over. Don't worry, we won't do anything too bad to her. But you should know that you will never get her back. As soon as we have her we will back down. But if you don't hand her over, then you should know that we have held people captive, the longer you take to hand her over, the more people die. If you want incentive to hand her over then you should know this, she's Divergent. But not a normal Divergent, you know, one with aptitude for two factions. She has aptitude for all five of the factions. Do you really want someone like that in your city? Hand her over and we can sort her out. She could ruin the faction system. So hand her over, or people will die and this war will continue."

The screen goes black again.

The door comes crashing down and Chloe enters the room.

Grandma stands to fight her but Chloe shoots at her, my grandma collapses but I can tell from the needle sticking out of her that it was just something to put her to sleep for a while.

I'm in shock.

Chloe comes after me but I stand and run to my room.

I feel something sharp enter my back and I start feeling drowsy.

I fall to the floor and the last thing I see is Chloe walking towards me.

Then I see black.

Tris' POV:

We just saw the video that Jeanine sent through the factions.

Tobias and I are running through the compound, trying to get to our apartment.

We arrive in ten minutes and the guards are on the floor outside, unconscious. The door is on the floor also. I see my mum lying on the floor, just starting to wake up. I rush over to her and see a needle sticking out of her side.

I take it out and she wakes up fully.

"What happened?" I ask.

"We were watching a film, Hope and I, the video of Jeanine came on, then a young girl came in, I think it was Chloe, she looked the way you described her. I went to fight her but she shot me." Mum explains.

"Tris…" Tobias says, I look up at him and I see tears in his eyes. "I can't find Hope. They have her."

I feel tears form in my eyes as well.

They have our daughter.

Our pregnant daughter.

Our daughter who has already been through too much and is now going to be tortured.

"We need a plan." I say.

He nods and picks up the phone, calling god knows who.

All I know is we need to find her before they can do anything terrible to her.
