Oh Em Gee! Hows it going guyssss!? I know I'm TERRIBLE at keeping this story updated omg! :( Yep, you guys can feed me to the walkers I don't mind XD Anyways, without furtther ado, here's the new chapter :)
Clary's POV
About a mile or so from the farm, we stopped at this abandoned gas station to work on the kid's leg.
"Rick, find me something metal and flat I can press against his skin, and a blow torch as well. Glenn find some antiseptics in the store area. We won't be able to sedate him, but we can lessen his chances of infection." Hershel told the guys, as Glenn and I laid the boy out on the ground.
"Clary I want you to stay with him. Find out a few things if you can."
I nodded and knelt down. I realized this boy wasn't much younger than me.
"M-miss wh-where am I?" He groaned out as he came to. I held his hand as the pain in his leg began bothering him.
"It's alright. You're at a gas station. There's a doctor, he's gonna fix your leg. Everything's gonna be okay." Honestly I'm not sure what came over me. He reminded me so much of a friend I had growing up. Could it be him?
"Hay, tell me your name. I don't wanna call ya kid anymore." I chuckled.
He smiled and swallowed before answering me. "Randall. What's yours?"
Damn, it wasn't my friend. And I sure as hell wasn't telling him my name. Didn't trust him enough yet.
"Those guys back in town, who left you. Who were they?" I pressed on.
"Guys I met. They took me in. All my family's….dea—." His eyes closed and his body went slack. Uh oh.
"Hershel, what's going on?!" I shouted.
The old man walked over and checked him over. "Lost a lot of blood. His body's trying to conserve. It's best he fainted now before he passed out from the shock."
Rick and Glenn returned with the supplies and proceeded to cauterize Randall's wound. I told them what I found out, and soon we loaded back up in the car. Damn I hadn't felt this tired in a while…wonder what my baby girl was doing….
Daryl's POV
Jamie and I spent most of the afternoon checking the traps and shooting squirrels. Well, I did most of the shooting. I made her fetch the kills and haul them with us. I hate to admit it but the kid did entertain me. She was covered in blood and sweat and hadn't complained a bit. The only thing she ever said was if the game we were bringing back would be enough to feed the group.
On our way back to camp I spotted a nice buck that'd make enough food to feed us for a day or two. Jamie saw it and waited for me to shoot it. But on a whim, I decided not to.
Instead I placed one hand on Jamie's shoulder and signaled her to be quiet. She did so and I stepped back, allowing myself room to take my crossbow off. I placed it in front of her and guided her little hands on where they should be. I mean hay, the kid wanted to learn to shoot, and it's too risky to be popping off pistol rounds.
"A'ight, now take a deep breath before while you pull back, yep like that." I whispered.
"Now empty your lungs. It'll make you more balanced." I could hear her exhale quite loudly. Surprisingly, it didn't bother the buck that was grazing a few yards in front of us.
Without having to tell her, Jamie fired the bow, sending the arrow flying…straight into the deer's pelt.
Jamie smiled at me, which actually made my chest hurt. Nah, it wasn't her, it's gotta be this damn heat that's getting to me. Yeah that's what it is.
We made our way to retrieve the deer. Looks like we caught us a good haul.
"You were a pretty good shot kid. When we get back I'll teach ya how to skin and gut the meat." I told her. It'd be getting late when we got back to the farm.
And once we arrived at the farm, I kept my word. I pulled out a few squirrels and showed the kid what to do. At first she was grossed out, but got over it after she skinned her first one.
"Not bad, but hold your knife like this." I explained, showing her the best way to hold the knife.
"Ya think I got a shot at being a good hunter like you?" She asked, not taking her eyes off the half skinned varmint in her hands.
"If ya don't screw it up, you'll be fine. You get in a pinch, you'll be able to survive." I told her honestly. That's what hunting was about, survival.
Before long it was getting dark and apparently Lori had made a half assed attempted at going after Rick. And just like always, she was running back to Shane. The asshole couldn't' be more pleased with himself.
"I don't like him. He's mean." Jamie muttered, whittling something with her knife.
"And why's that?" I asked. At least the kid had good instincts.
"He doesn't like Clary, or maybe he does, and he doesn't like it when me and Carl are together." I wish he'd leave. Everyone is scared of him.
"What do you mean he likes Clary?"
"Well he watches her a lot and tries asking me about her. I tell him to fuck off and go suck a dick while he's at it."
I smirked to keep from fully laughing. This kid had to be one of the only people I liked here.
"Sorry, Clary says to keep the swearing under control."
"Don't worry bout it. I won't tell on ya." I told her as I finished dressing the deer we'd caught.
Silence broke over us and I found myself thinking about things I didn't want to think about. What if Rick and the others ran into trouble? This sorry group wouldn't last a week without him. And what would happen to Jamie? Shit, I mean I don't care about the kid but I'm not a heartless bastard. Shane would probably take care of Lori and Carl. Maybe Lori would take in Jamie. I wouldn't be able to leave if I didn't know the kid was taken care of. My conscience wouldn't let me.
"You know Clary likes you." Jamie said in a neutral tone. I scoffed, but was thankful I had my back to her. She wouldn't be able to tell I was blushing.
"Nah she doesn't. Sides' I ain't got time for relationships." I said, hopefully ending this conversation.
"Stop being so pussy whipped! And quit being a lil bitch!" Jamie actually yelled at me.
I wheeled around to face the scrawny 13 year old who had tear stains on her face.
"Stop lying to yourself and pushing people away. That's all you do! You got mad at Carol because you can't handle what you see when you look in the mirror. You say you don't care, but you do. You searched for my friend! You've babysat me all day even though you didn't have to. You care about my sister and Carol."
I felt like this kid had grown about four feet and had sucker punched me in the gut.
"So what d'ya want from me?"
The poor kid sobbed harder. "Don't leave! I know that's what you're going to do! You're gonna leave or get killed just like everyone else…"
"You don't know shit kid." I was getting madder by the second, mainly at myself.
And suddenly I felt tiny arms wrap around my lower body.
"I know you care about us. Please don't leave. We need you." Her pleas were quiet but I heard them.
I sighed, and hung my head before stooping to Jamie's level. This kid just had a hold on me!
"I'll think about it, kid. I mean it. Now run along, I think your sister's back." I said, seeing a car approaching the house.
She looked to the house and grabbed my hand, dragging me with her. I went along with it and met the car that held Rick, Glenn, Hershel, and Clary.
Clary jumped out of the car first, running right towards Jamie and me. Jamie sprinted towards her sister and the two hugged. I caught bits of their conversation, which sounded like Jamie was telling Clary about her day with me. Oh joy. Shit, I better not be made an official babysitter of the group!
Everything seemed to come to a neat close until T-Dog mentioned something about the person in the backseat of the car. Shane looked to Rick, and it seemed like a fight was going to break out. Shit! Shit! Shit!
Leave me a review? Thanks lil ass kicker ;)
