"Bye" I said as Hunter dropped me off at Racer Academy in front of the main building. I sighed as I turned around. I was told to go straight to the Headmaster's office when I arrived. Why does this feel like de-ja-vu? I shook the thought out of my mind as I headed inside. I took the same route as I did the first day and quickly ended up in front of the secretary. She notified Spritle and I was quickly allowed to go into his office. When I walked in he was in the middle of the call and I sat down quietly. After a couple of minutes Spritle hung up the phone with a groan. I guess the call did not go the way he wanted.
Spritle smiled as he began to talk, "Welcome back, Bunny, how was your vacation?"
"It was good, I did all the work packets that I received," I said.
Spritle nodded, "just give it to the professors; I wanted to talk about something else… I heard from my nephew about the car issue." I could not help but feel nervous. Obviously, they would tell their uncle, I should not be so surprised. The only problem is how am I going to continue to attend a racing school without a car.
"How bad is it that I don't have a car?" I asked nervously.
Spritle responded, "well you would need one for class obviously." I groaned wishing I had my car back. I should have taken it with me when I went home.
"Is there anything I can do? Is there anyway I can get a spare until my car pops up? I will do anything," I asked feeling as if I was going to start crying. The last thing I want to do is cry in front of the headmaster.
"I'll… I'll see what I can do" Spritle muttered as his cheeks redden a little. I looked at him confused until I realized what I said and I felt my cheeks turn red.
"I'm sorry, I did not mean it li-" I began.
Spritle quickly cut me off, "I know, its okay." Oh god, why did I say that? 'I will do anything'. That sounded sluttish. I had the sudden urge to run into the hallway and bang my head against the wall a couple of hundred times. That would most likely just make it worse. The two of us sat in silence for what felt like an eternity until he said, "well I will look into a way for you to get a spare car, and you should probably go see the others. They will probably excited to see you."
"Yeah sure" I said with a smile as I stood up wondering if I was still blushing, "bye." Before the Headmaster could say anything, I quickly rushed out of the office and out of the building. I took out my phone and sent a text to Ara asking where she was. After a minute she responded the garage.
I quickly headed to the garage and opened the door to see everyone inside. Speed, X, Lucy, Ara, Connor and ChimChim (who jumped out Hunter's car window once we got onto campus and ran away) were staring at something on the computer. I walked up behind them since none of them realized I was there and peered over to the screen. It was a picture of the Sugar Rush in an abandoned looking garage.
"Where did that come from?" I asked causing all of them to jump.
"When did you get here Bunny?" Connor yelled as his hand flew up to his chest.
"Just now" I answered.
"The video was sent in an e-mail, but we could not track the sender," Speed stated,
I looked at the screen confused, "video, it just looks like a picture?" X quickly pushes Connor off the chair and gestures for me to sit down.
"Hey" Connor yelled in shock. I quickly sat down and pressed the small play button that was originally blocked by Connor's head. The video was of a 180 view of the Sugar Rush. On the other side of the car had my name, Maia, scratched into it.
"What's with the whole 'Maia' thing?" Ara asked confused.
"Maybe that's their name?" X suggested.
Lucy turned toward me, "do you know who or what Maia is?"
"Why did they scratch the car?" I asked confused as the video went off. The screen went back to the e-mail in which the video was sent. It was sent to Speed's e-mail from "shadow .uk". I never seen the e-mail before and looked at the others to see them equally confused.
"I think they want us to find someone named Maia," X suggested.
Connor added, "or, like you said before, they are Maia."
"I know what the Maia thing is about" I blurted out without thinking and quickly added, "but it's not as important as it seems."
After a short pause Speed asked, "can you tell us?"
"No" I quickly responded.
"Why do you have so many secrets? Are you some kind of serial killer? Is Maia one of your victims and the spirit of her is now haunting you?" X asked.
I laughed, "that sounds like horror movie plot."
"That does not answer the question," X muttered.
"Just… trust me," I said, "I will explain the whole Maia thing eventually. Just not now. As I said before, it is not important. I am also not a serial killer, but that would be awesome if it was true."
"So what are we supposed to do now?" Ara asked.
"Wait for more evidence?" Lucy suggested.
Speed asked, "how are you going to continue with classes if you have no car?"
"Headmaster Spritle said he will help me get a spare until I get my car back," I answered as the memory of the earlier conversation came back into my mind. I could not help the blush that proceeded to spread across my cheeks.
"Are you okay Bunny?" Speed asked leaning closer to me to get a better look at my face.
"Yes, just remembered something" I said as I quickly stood up, "I need to go do some… some make-up school work. See you guys later." Before any of them could say anything, I left the room.
