AN- My apologies to any Carolyn fans. I tried to make her a nice character but I just can't. And that probably comes from my feelings about her. What she did to Rossi really ticked me off.

Previously on Criminal Minds- Spencer looked up at Rossi's mutter, his eyes widening at the sight at their door. "What, what are you doing here?"

Carolyn bustled into the hotel room and pointed a bony finger at a shocked Reid. "There he is gentlemen." She called over her shoulder. "That's James."

Tensing, Spencer watched as a middle aged man confidently strode into the room. The short stocky man didn't look intimating at all. The three burly men that came in after him were a different story though. The hulking figures in white uniforms had more muscles than all the men of the BAU put together. And while they were smiling, the smiles weren't genuine; they were a mask to put people at ease. It was the same expression many of the Bennington staff had when interacting with their patients. Actually the uniforms were the same, too. Spencer's breathing began to increase. Wait! What was going on? Why were they…

"Reid focus" Rossi softly uttered, snapping the younger man out of his spiraling thoughts. He patted his son's trembling back and then turned to their unwelcome guests. "Who are you and what do you want?"

"They're here for James. They're going to take him away and make him all better." Carolyn replied with a smug smile.

"And why would they want to do that? There's nothing wrong with him." Dave growled.

"That's what I thought at first. But then after hearing about his childhood from that blond lady agent, I did a lot of thinking and web surfing. And several hours later I discovered the problem. My baby had been brainwashed!" Carolyn explained. "So I researched the best deprogramming facility and called them immediately."

"What Mrs. Rossi says is true." The dumpy man said as he stepped up beside her. "Our facilities are the best in the country as is our record of success. With time and patience we'll be able to deprogram your son."

"I'm afraid your methods won't work on Reid because he hasn't been brainwashed." Dave reasoned.

"Yes he has!" Carolyn shouted. "That witch brainwashed him into thinking she was his mother!"

Rossi shook his head. He couldn't believe the audacity of his ex. He got that she was upset but this was going too far. Seeing movement, the profiler placed his hand on his gun. "Stay there gentlemen." He warned.

"Now sir" the short man with the fake placating smile began. "Let's be civil about this. We only have your son's best interests at heart."

"No, you only have your bank account at heart." Dave corrected. "Now I don't know what my ex has told you and frankly I don't care. Whatever it was I can guarantee it wasn't the truth. You wouldn't be here if it was. So if you'll…"

"If that's true, then you won't mind my talking with James…"

"Spencer" Rossi broke in, gripping his weapon tighter as the three goons took a menacing step forward. "Agent Spencer Reid"

"Agent?" the deprogrammer repeated.

The disbelief in the man's voice ticked Reid off. After being in the FBI for years, he still wasn't viewed as an agent by outsiders. Anger over the slight helped the young profiler find his voice. Squaring his shoulders, Spencer stood and reached into his pocket. "Yes agent" he spat, flashing his ID. Seeing the three thugs inch closer, he glared at them. "I wouldn't do that if I were you. Kidnapping a federal agent is a serious crime; one that would land you in more trouble than you could handle. Now go crawl back into whatever hole you came out of." He turned his glare on Carolyn. "I need to go visit my mother."

Carolyn flinched like she'd been slapped. The chubby man in the suit however wasn't fazed in the least. "James, James, James" he tutted. "You're only serving to prove your mo…"

"That's it!" Spencer hollered. "I've had it! Get out!"

"James" the deprogrammer softly said as he covertly gestured for his men to move in.

Seeing the signal, Rossi swiftly stepped in front of Reid and unholstered his gun. He pointed it at the goons stopping them in their tracks. "You heard the man. Leave. Now." he barked. He watched the men and Carolyn back away. His eyes narrowed as he took in the pompous head man's expression. "Don't even think about it." he warned. "I so much as catch a glimpse of you or your goons and I'll see to it that you're charged with stalking. And should Agent Reid go missing I will personally see to it that you never see the light of day again. Have I made myself clear?"

The stocky man gulped at the deadly look in the furious father's eyes. "Y-y-yes sir" he stammered before turning and rushing out of the room with his men.

Dave stared at his former wife. "That goes for you too, Carolyn." He ground out. "Leave. Don't make me call security to remove you."

Carolyn's face screwed up with anger. "I'll leave." She replied. "For now" She stomped to the door and spun around. "I'm not giving up though. I will have my son by my side." She then turned and stalked out of the room.

Reid deflated as soon as the door slammed shut. Dropping onto the couch, he wrapped his arms around himself and began to shake.

Knowing that the way the intruders were dressed as well as parts of the exchange had more than likely reminded the boy of his greatest fear, Dave quickly sat down next to his son, wrapped his arms around the young man, and pulled him into a hug. "It's okay, kiddo. You're safe." he whispered, rubbing Reid's back. "Daddy's got you."
