Hello everyone! I just want to thank everyone who reviewed and I am soooo happy that most people like this story. I do feel really guilty and evil with what you are about to read in this chapter. Some people really loved it when they kissed but as I said, it won't last long because something… 'conveniently' will happen. I know many will hate me for that but don't worry, it will get better in chapter 15 0r 16. I also can't believe I had made it to chapter 14! Also, don't forget to read the new story I posted, Reliving Memories which I will try to update soon. Let's move on to CHAPTER 14!
Katara's POV
I held my arms around his neck as his arms were around my waist, for one moment in my life I was at peace. I wasn't worried or shocked or scared, I was happy. His body heat wrapped around me like I warm blanket I desire everyday .We pulled apart as we each took fast breaths yet we stayed in each other's arms. I looked in his deep golden eyes, his pale cheeks tinted pink with made me giggle. He put on a smile, gazing at each other, it seemed like none of us could speak. He gave me a hug as he buried his head down my neck. After searching and searching for an answer, I found out that what I felt was something more than friendship, I wasn't sure if this was love but it was close. He tightened his grip and I did the same. We pulled apart, I noticed a contrast brown color somewhere behind him but I didn't care.
"Katara, I-" My eyes widened in fear.
"Zuko!" I pulled us to the side as a hook bar thing almost hit Zuko's side.
"What was that?" He was answered as a mad and smirking Jet appeared from the trees.
"Jet! What are you doing?!" His eyes narrowed.
"I am trying to get rid of this firebending bastard." He was walking to Zuko's direction. He lifted his… hook swords?
"I told you that if I ever saw a firebender even a mile away from me I won't hesitate to kill him."
"Jet he-"
"Don't deny anything Katara, I saw how you to were busy being 'friends' and I also saw Lee firebend on that pot over there. Or should I say Zuko."
"Stay away from Katara." He moved in front of me preventing me to see what was going on. I was also a little offended that he didn't think I could handle Jet but I decided I shouldn't interfere.
"Oh I won't do anything to her, unless she prevents me from killing you them we might have a problem."
He launched his hooked sword at Zuko but he dodged it with ease. Zuko turned and kicked Jet's side and ducked as another hook sword swing aimed for his head. Jet stumbled but continued as he used both his swords and hooked both Zuko's ankles and pulled causing him to fall but he landed on his hands and formed a hand stand as his kicked once again knocking a hooked sword out of Jet's hand and out of his reach. He then successfully flipped and landed on his feet.
"Why are you playing around? Firebend and get through with me, I dare you." I silently prayed that Zuko wouldn't firebend or anything.
Zuko planted him a punch square in the chest, Jet coughed but recovered fast enough to avoid the kicks high and low he was receiving. Jet then grabbed Zuko with both arms behind his back and Jet's remaining hook sword right around his neck.
"You know, the reward for founding you is pretty good, better price bringing you dead than alive."
" Zuko!" I wanted to enter the fight but before I could get near enough to attack, Jet's foot found my side and kicked it pretty hard making me fall and tear up. I tried to hold the pain but small unwanted whimpers kept showing up.
"NO! Katara!" Zuko's eyes widened.
He turned his body flipping both him and Jet releasing him from his grip and swung his fist in Jet's jaw. Jet launched his sword but Zuko located his foot where the sword (or should I say metal bar) was hooked and pulled down. Jet didn't release his grip making him almost kneel down, Zuko elbowed him in the shoulder blades making Jet fall and groan in pain. I used some water and started to heal the bruise that was forming on my side.
Zuko ran towards me.
"Katara are you okay?"
"Yeah I am fine, what about you?"
"Fie, let me help you get up and I-Ugh-" I could feel his body weight falling on top of me. He then pushes me so that he falls back instead on me. He started groaning in pain and clenched the back of his head. I furiously looked at Jet.
"Now let's end this once and for all!"
"No!" I shot all the water jets I could, including several water whips, I looked like a girl attacking a crazed murderer, although it was kind of true. I ended it with a huge block of ice pounding him in the stomach then turning it into water pushing him to a tree and freezing him for the second time today.
"Why must you ruin everything! First that lost Fire Nation family and now him, you are killing me."
"What do you mean?"
"I ran across a lost Fire Nation family earlier, they were lost and looking for help, I would have ended them if you and Fire Nation over there hadn't mess it up and got caught by Fire Nation soldiers."
"You are a monster!"
Zuko was still groaning in pain and he had his eyes closed as he rubbed his head in pain. I ignored whatever Jet said and I went over with Jet and unfroze the map he had and then I ran over to Zuko helping him get up.
"Zuko, are you okay?"
He looked at me as if I were crazy.
"I am fine, what happened? Where am I? Who are you?"
I mentally slapped myself as I pulled him and we ran away from Jet. This could not be happening, II hope his memory lost isn't that bad. I looked at the map and found out that there was a stolen kimono-rhino somewhere nearby. Throughout the time of searching for the kimono-rhino, Zuko would not shut up about how I must be a traitor or accusing me as a thief or something. He must have his memories before he met me.
"I told you, I am Katara." I said in a lazy voice.
"I know but I am having a hard time believing you. I mean, you aren't Fire Nation."
"Obviously, I am Water Tribe. WA-TER TRIBE."
"I knew it; you are just here to steal Fire Nation secrets!" I sighed.
"If I wanted to steal Fire Nation secrets then wouldn't I be in the Fire Nation, or at least be going to the Fire Nation."
"Or you could be trying to lead me to a trap."
"Ugh, you're impossible."
He just gave me a humph and continued walking. We were getting closer to the marked spot on the map; I could hear the kimono-rhinos. We finally made it and there was one huge kimono-rhino. I was kind of scared being near the huge animal but I knew we had to leave soon, if Jet can escape from being frozen once then he can escape once again.
"Wait, where is that kimono-rhino from?"
"It was stolen from a group of Fire Na-tion… sold-i-e-rs." I smacked my forehead once again remembering that this is the new Zuko.
"I knew it!"
"But it wasn't me! I swear, it was the guy we were running from."
"Hey, I don't run from anyone!" I shook my head and ignored him.
The problem now was that I had no idea how to get up there. I put a foot on the… the… thing where people use to get on the saddle. I didn't know how to get on the saddle from there so I went back down. My foot got tangled with the thing's strap so I tried to wiggle it out. I heard Zuko laugh in an almost bragging manner. I missed full memory Zuko he- Ahh! The strap got loose when I wasn't paying attention and before I knew it I was falling. I closed my eyes and waited for the fall. I was caught by surprise when instead of a cold hard floor I felt warm strong arms. Blue met gold, I did miss Zuko but this one wasn't so bad. His hair grew a bit longer than when I last gave it a cut, which was last week! I had to admit he looked cuter with longer hair. I could feel his warm breath on my cheeks.
"I-I uh should put you down."
I was a bit disappointed but I remembered that this Zuko never kissed me before. I don't say anything; he turns and easily gets on the Kimono-rhino. He leans over and offers a hand which I gladly accepted. I sat behind him and I first hesitated on wrapping my arms around him when he stiffened but then relaxed which sent a wave of relief over me.
"Hold on tight." He said it in a too husky voice which caused me to flush red.
And then we were off into the woods. Nothing was said between us, just a long silence. When we were sure we covered a surprisingly good amount of ground. We made camp since we didn't get any rest at all. There was a convenient blanket in a bag that came with the animal. Zuko tied him up to a tree and thankfully for us there was also a bit of hay near so we could feed the kimono-rhino. We had to share the blanket which I didn't mind but Zuko wasn't all in the plan.
"Look, I just don't trust you and you expect me to sleep next to you?"
"What do you mean? It isn't as if I will stick a knife through your back while you are sleeping."
"I would I know."
"Then what do you think I should do then? It's not like I can restore your memor-" My eyes widen as I reached over and opened up my water skin. I made my usual water gloves and was about to locate them on Zuko's temples when he blocked my hands so that I won't touch him. Do I look like a wild animal ready to rip out the heart of every living animal I come across?
"What the hell do you think you are doing?!"
"Well I suppose you want your memory back but from the blocking and yelling I guess you don't-"
"Wait! What do you mean? How can you give it back?"
"I am a healer, with waterbending. I am not sure if I can but I might be able to restore it."
"Really? C-can it heal other things?"
"N-no, sorry." I said quietly. I broke it to him once, it hurt when I broke it to him a second time especially when the light of hope in his eyes disappeared.
"That's okay, it's my fault for having hope." I frowned at the words he said but I ignored them.
I put my hands on his temples and the water began to glow, Zuko tensed up a bit but then he relaxed, as far as he can relax any way. He put on a frown on his face and had his eyes closed. I finished and hooped for the worst.
"I you remember anything?"
"Ka… Katara?" It sounded as if it were a question.
"Zuko, what do you remember?" He spaced out a bit and kept blinking went he finally answered me.
"Yes-" I smiled.
"But, I only remember small parts, not everything." My smile died down, I remember Hama once telling me that one can heal the memory of another but only if they forgotten a bit of their memory, two weeks tops. Zuko on the other hand lost more than two weeks memory. I wonder if he has memory of the last two weeks of two weeks' worth of lost memory.
"What is it that you remember?" I told him for the third time.
"I-I remember back in the palace when we escaped and running in the woods, I don't know why or how we escaped."
"Uhh, next thing I remembered is seeing someone, a… ghost? He gave me a lava rock? I don't know what it does but I know it is extremely important. There was a witch almost killing me but you were there and helped me. I recall a shirshu somewhere with a mean lady, an old man with an apple, my Uncle leaving for Ba Sing Se from the palace, us going to a festival with… Jel? A sick little girl, Azula capturing us, another witch who was nice and I guess that's it."
He didn't remember the kiss, the dance, did he remember his feelings? I noticed he didn't really tell me his memories in order but I guess that's better than nothing.
"Well I guess that is as good as you are going to get. If you want we can cut the blanket in two so we won't have to sleep next to each other." My vision was blurry and my eyes were droopy.
"But won't you get cold?" I yawned and shrugged me shoulders as I settled down on some left over hay and closed my eyes.
"Whatever you do, just don't forget to cover me with a blanket."
Flash back ended.
I played with my braid as I once again replayed the events in my mind. I was still bummed out because of Zuko's memory lost but I guess once we reach the North Pole and I use that special water from the Oasis I guess it will return back to normal. I smiled as I remember when I woke up that morning, he had decided not to cut it and instead share, even though he had his back against mine I was still warmer around him.
*Mean while down stairs*
"I am sorry Zuko but I am in no condition to travel, this is a journey you and your friend must take."
Zuko sighed "It's okay uncle, I guess we can make it on our own."
"Thank you nephew for understanding, by the way, how is your memory coming along?"
Zuko looked shocked at the old man. "How did you know?" His uncle chuckled.
"You see nephew, when you are my age you become much more observant."
"Oh."
"And if you don't mind telling me, where exactly are you going?"
"The North Pole." Iroh shook his head as he sighed.
"Oh nephew, you really don't think things through."
"What are you talking about?"
"Nephew, who lives on the North Pole?"
"Water Tribe."
"Yes, and what do they do to enemy's?"
"I don't know, take them to jail I guess."
"Yes, and who are their current enemies?"
"The Fire- Nation" realization hit Zuko's voice.
"I do not think it is wise to go where the enemy has outnumbered you including in their own territory."
"I guess, but I am still going."
"Why? Why are you willing to risk you life?" Iroh's brain completed the puzzle and knew the real reason.
"Because, I will get my full memory back." Iroh detected a hint of unsure.
"But surely there is a possibility you won't get your memory back. Are you going to risk yourself?"
"I trust Katara, she said that there was a very good chance it will work."
"Even though that is a good answer, I don't think that is the real reason you want to go."
"What are you talking about?"
"Sometimes one risks their life for something, other times the risk their life for someone."
"Wait, what are you saying uncle?"
"Are you going to the North Pole because you want to go or because lady Katara wants to go?"
Iroh put on a small smile as he continued sipping his tea; Zuko didn't think his uncle would give him this conversation, especially with a nosey Katara just one floor above them.
"Well of course she wants to go; I just want my memory back."
"You can go to Abbey; they have perfume cures for everything, even memory lost."
"But what about Katara?"
"What about her?"
"She has her heart set on going."
"Well, she must have had a big affect on you nephew. I didn't remember you this caring for one's dreams or goals." Zuko was about to protest but he knew his uncle was right. Back then he didn't care about anyone's problems; he thought that if someone had problems then they weren't your problems. Now with Katara, everything had changed.
"What is wrong with me?"
"Nothing is wrong with you, it is normal for people your age."
"So I shouldn't go?"
"Oh no, of course you should go, you really care about her don't you?"
"I don't know, I lost my memory and I don't remember much from her." Even though that was true, his feelings for her were never forgotten.
As if uncle read his mind. "Memories can be forgotten, but strong feelings are always with you."
"I am done with this conversation uncle, you make no sense! I am leaving tomorrow morning." He turned around and his annoyance grew when his uncle was laughing. He poured himself a cup of tea.
"I am going to sleep, goodnight uncle."
"Good night Zuko, just remember I am expecting great thing from you in your return."
"Yeah, yeah." He took a sip of his tea.
"Just don't forget to bring my little grandnephews to visit their uncle!"
"Uncle!"
I know, short chapter but don't worry I will make the next chapter longer. Next chapter it their journey to the North Pole and I hope in chapter 16 they make it to the North Pole! I really need a image for my both my stories so if you or someone else you know can make one, please do! Also, I was hoping if any authors are interested in making a Princess Bubblegum and Marshall Lee fic. They are like a Zutara version of Adventure Time. As I said before, it will get better in the future chapters. Till the next chapter!
