Chapter 13- Duels and Ghouls

As they continued through the Lanes Between, an unfamiliar world suddenly came into view, and something about this strange new world seemed to intrigue Sairu, noting the skyscrapers that littered the ground, with a single dome that almost seemed to tower above them. As this world became clearer, Sairu suddenly felt that Lunar Bahamut was undulating violently which progressively became worse, until to his surprise, in a flash of light, he suddenly disappeared, leaving Sairu to fall into the atmosphere of the city. In a flash of light, Sairu surprisingly found himself on the ground already, unharmed and unshaken. As the white light that encased him faded, he found himself on a main street, with a road and passing vehicles on wheels that he had never seen before, as well as an unusual looking shop that featured a triangle with something that Sairu could only describe as an eye. 'Strange place' thought Sairu as he looked his surroundings over. 'There seems to be something unusual about this world. It's quite different from what I've seen in other worlds, but then again, they're all unique from each other' he continued his assessment of the area, before registering something attached to his left arm: a white and red disk-like device with two blade-like protrusions on either side, and also discovering what appeared to be a deck of cards, with orange outlines, a deep red body and a single black oval at the centre.

Drawing the deck from the slots, Sairu discovered the cards depicted creatures and people of all shapes and sizes, and while this was already unusual, Sairu's eyes soon fell on three of the cards: two depicting his companions, Lunar Bahamut preserved in mid-roar, and King Mickey with his Keyblade at hand, gazing to the left with his hood obscuring his face, and finally, his Lunablade itself printed on a green card with a strange symbol; Sairu also noted that these cards seemed to have a full moon depicted in the background of the figures all adorned with black clothing and hides accented with wisps of white. Sairu was bewildered by this strange development, though it was the first time he was seeing this phenomena since Castle Oblivion. "What on earth are these? Still, the fact I have them on me must mean they're important, so I'd better keep them, but how do I even use them?" Sairu stated to himself, before returning the cards to the device on his arm. 'Sairu? Can you… hear my voice?' Lunar Bahamut called out to him, earning his attention.

'Yeah. Lunar Bahamut, what is this world? And what happened to you and King Mickey?' Sairu telepathically responded, only for Lunar Bahamut to respond 'It is unclear, but it appears non-human entities are sealed within these cards, which must explain why you are unaffected. However, I am not certain what can be done to reverse it, if it can be. But for now, you are alone; communicating with you is all I can do now' Hearing this, Sairu instinctively felt that there was nothing he could do to change this, but that didn't stop him from being hopeful. 'Alright… It's like Castle Oblivion all over again. I just hope I don't have to go through all that drama again…' Sairu thought as his mind trailed off as the unpleasant memories danced in his mind's eyes. Getting over these unpleasant thoughts, Sairu then concluded that there was no use just standing there, and that he would understand how it worked from there.

Setting off, Sairu then noticed the door to the building open, and out stepped an elderly man dressed in a maroon collared shirt, with white dungarees and a black bandana wrapped over his head. As the man then turned to lock the door with a key, he then noticed Sairu or more particularly, the device on his arm. "Hmm? A Duel Disk. I'm sorry, but if you've come for some Duel Monster cards, you'll have to wait a moment" the man said with sincere sympathy as he turned to face Sairu. "Oh, that's no problem, really. I know it sounds strange, but what exactly is a Duel Disk or Duel Monsters?" Sairu acknowledged politely. "Hmm? Come again? You have a Duel Disk, and you've never heard of Duel Monsters?" the man responded in great bewilderment. However, denoting that he was sincere in his confusion, the man exhaled and enquired "May I borrow your Deck for a moment, young man? I think what I have to say will be demonstrated best if I show you as I go along. Oh, but where are my manners? My name is Solomon Muto, what is your name?"

Understanding his point, Sairu removes the Deck from his Disk, introducing himself "My name is Sairu Leonhart. A pleasure, Mr Muto" and hands it to the elderly gentleman, who fans the cards and explains "Now, then. Duel Monsters is primarily a game between Duelists like yourselves, where players pit their monsters against one another in a bid to reduce your opponent's Life Points to zero in order to win. Some monsters are weaker than others, with fewer attack and defence points, but have a unique effect when summoned. Other monsters conversely have high attack and defence points, making them ideal for weakening your opponent's Life Points quickly. You also use Magic cards to empower your monsters, and Trap cards to catch your opponent off-guard. You with me so far?" "Hm" Sairu replied affirmatively as Solomon continued "Now, you can't just summon any monsters from your hand. Monsters up to level four can be summoned immediately, but you must sacrifice your other monsters on the field first in order to summon monsters of higher level; five and six star monsters require one sacrifice, 7 and higher need two sacrifices. Plus, you cannot activate Trap Cards just like that; you must place them face-down and wait until either your or your opponent's turn to activate. Alright then, I think I've explained all I need to right now" Solomon finished as he returned the Deck to Sairu. However, once he replaced it in his Duel Disk, a shrill cry rang out, shocking both men present.

"What on earth was that?" Solomon stated, alarmed whilst Sairu could only gaze in the direction it came from. 'It's no good. I can't sense anything, so I'll just have to do this the old-fashioned way' he concluded to himself before tearing off down the pathway, ducking and turning into the nearest alley before he emerged into a wider pathway, and there he saw three people, with two facing each other with Duel Disks. The first combatant was a boy near Sairu's age with messy blonde hair, dressed in a blue jacket undone with a turquoise shirt underneath with blue trousers and black sneakers, yet he was on his knees, panting heavily as his opponent, a hulking man dressed in a simple shirt with a black jacket, shaved dark hair and shades, snickered with a malicious grin. To add to Sairu's surprise, he noticed on the same side as the victor, was a black creature with yellow eyes which he recognised immediately.

Instinctively, Sairu raised his arm and surprisingly, the Duel Disk activated, shifting the wings into a blade-like form, and lit up. Whilst the blonde on the ground looked on flabbergasted, Sairu took no heed and drew the top card of his deck. In his hand, he now held a Level 4 monster known as 'Lunar Warrior', which he then placed on the Disk itself. In a flash of white, the monster featured on the card took form, a muscular male humanoid dressed in black robes, black trousers and boots accented with white wisps, whilst his body itself was ashen grey with brilliant white hair. Raising his free hand, Sairu gestured towards the Heartless and in response, Lunar Warrior charged with a black and white blade in hand and swiftly cut the Heartless card in half. Once it was gone, the man clutched his chest and a screen titled LP showed the man's points plummet to 0, and once they reached their mark, a dark aura suddenly appeared around him before it exploded outward, disappearing into the atmosphere in seconds as the man stood back, breathing lighter now.

As the man looked around in a confused daze, he then left without so much as batting an eyelash, if it could be seen. As he left, Sairu noticed something fall from his Duel Disk: a small black rectangle which Sairu guessed was the card that the Heartless was trapped in, before it simply eroded into dust. As he stared at the spot where it was, he then noticed that the blonde boy was now approaching. "Hey, pal. I was just about to kick his keister into next week! Not that I don't appreciate the help, but you know I got a rep to protect" he stated in an annoyed but appreciative tone of voice. Just then, his companion approached with an annoyed look and replied "C'mon Joey, give the guy a break. He helped us, didn't he? Whatever what that card was, it sure wasn't any normal Duel Monsters card" Deciding that this was more prioritising, Sairu turned to face the two boys and responded "Sorry for butting in, but your friend is right. That was not any ordinary card, and I had to destroy it" "Destroy it is right. Not only did that thing bite the dust, but its card too. Ya know, Tristan, this guy is as big a mystery as that card" Joey then spoke, eyeing Sairu suspiciously until Sairu simply smiled and said "Not the worst thing I've been called, but the name's Sairu. So you're Joey" facing the blonde and then turning to face his brown-haired friend "and Tristan, did I get that right?"

"Yeah, that's right! Joey Wheeler, the Godfather of Games! I guess my reputation precedes me, eh? Come on, you know I'm one of the best Duelists around, right?" Joey gloated exuberantly. "Nope. Never heard of you before" Sairu simply responded, delighting in Joey's crestfallen expression with a simple smile. "Ha ha! Too bad, 'Godfather of Games'" Tristan piled on as he draped an arm over Joey's slumped form before Joey, quick as a flash, circled round and caught him in a tight deadlock. "Well well, if it isn't Wheeler the monkey and his gorilla cheerleader" a new voice suddenly spoke up, which alerted Joey and Tristan to an approaching figure dressed in black with a white sleeveless coat emblazoned with a KC logo and chocolate brown hair, and just looking at him for the first time, Sairu was greatly irked. Forgetting about Tristan and Sairu entirely, Joey annoyingly ran to Kaiba and threatened with a clenched knuckle. "Wanna say that again, rich boy? I'll show ya a Dueling monkey" Joey stated in utter contempt.

Kaiba simply snorted derisively and dismissing Joey's presence shortly after, he turned to Sairu and said "I'd love to stay and chat, but I heard that my KaibaCorp Duel Disk system was malfunctioning, saying something ridiculous like an unregistered Duel Disk. Care to shed any light on the subject, kid?" Kaiba said condescendingly as he eyed Sairu suspiciously. Sairu simply held his gaze and responded, unfazed by his glare "Well, I'm not a resident to this town, so it's only fair to assume that I'm the unregistered Duelist" Hearing this, Kaiba held his arrogant smirk and responded "Innocent until proven guilty, it seems. So care to tell me how you created or even got that Duel Disk? The technology that designed it is under the control of yours truly, and I never shared the designs with anyone not affiliated with KaibaCorp. So then, you've got some explaining to do" Hearing that last statement, Sairu's composure faltered at the blatant accusation Kaiba was throwing at him as he responded "I can understand what you're saying and where you're coming from, but I have never stolen anything in my life. I won't stand here and have you accuse me of being a thief"

"Is that so? Well, it seems to me that you've got all the evidence I need on that arm of yours! Do you know how long it took me to create the Duel Disks? And more importantly, do you even know how to use it?" Kaiba retorted scathingly, pointing an accusing finger squarely at Sairu, and it was clear that Sairu was growing more and more impatient, until Joey vehemently stated "Hey, hold on. You got that part wrong; Sairu here could kick your rich butt all the way to Duelist Kingdom, just like me" Hearing this piqued Kaiba's interest and a smirk returning to his face, proposed "All right. If you're so confident in his skill, then how about we Duel? If I win, I'll sue for all the money you're hardly worth. But if by some miracle you manage to defeat me, I'll let the matter slide, since I'm such a nice guy. What do you say, kid?"

Without so much as a shudder of hesitation, Sairu gave a confident smirk and declared "You're on! I won't let you get away with calling me a thief!" bringing his arm up, the Duel Disk activated just as Kaiba raised his own Duel Disk and it too unfolded and drawing five cards from the top, Sairu followed suit and the Duel began with a cry of "Let's Duel!"

Duel: Sairu Leonhart versus Seto Kaiba

Turn 1: Kaiba (LP: 4000): His starting hand contains "Battle Ox", "White Dragon Ritual", "Paladin of White Dragon", "Shadow Spell", and "Ring of Defence". "I'll go first" he called arrogantly and with a sweeping motion, Kaiba draws an additional card: "Blue-Eyes White Dragon". "I activate the Magic Card, White Dragon Ritual. With this card, by sacrificing a 4-star monster in my hand, such as my Battle Ox, I can now Summon Paladin of White Dragon" he stated as he removed Battle Ox from his hand and placed it in a slot, and Sairu watched as in a flash of light, a pale blue dragon mounted by a knight-like entity dressed in white and gold armour appeared, as well as a projection of its statistics: 4 Stars, LIGHT Attribute, Dragon-Type monster, 1900 ATK and 1200 DEF. "Next, I'll activate my Paladin's effect; by sacrificing this monster, I can summon from my hand, my ultimate monster: Blue-Eyes White Dragon!" Kaiba called as his monster disappeared and was replaced by a new, more frightening beast: a white dragon with a pale blue sheen and piercing azure eyes which gave an incredible roar, but what truly alarmed Sairu was the monster's statistics: 8 stars, LIGHT Attribute, Dragon-Type, 3000 ATK and 2500 DEF. "Next, I'll place one card face down and end my turn. Your move, charlatan" Kaiba finally stated as a large card manifested with its back in their eye-line.

Turn 2: Sairu Leonhart LP: 4000: Sairu's starting hand contains "Lunar Warrior", "Lunablade", "Light's Deception", "Lunar Scout" and "Retribution". "Here goes" Sairu said with slight hesitation as he drew his first card in his first Duel: "Lunar Wolf". 'Alright. That monster he has is simply incredible, and nothing in my hand comes even close to stopping it. These trap cards might do something, but I-' 'Sairu, concentrate' Eraqus's voice rang out in his head. 'Don't panic; that beast is powerful, but just looking at these cards, I believe I might have a strategy. I've seen similar situations in another world when I was younger, so I can be of help' Eraqus stated confidently whilst Sairu seemed surprised at his godfather's words. After a period of silence, Sairu took action and called to Kaiba: "Alright. I summon Lunar Wolf in Defence Mode": and from a flash of light, a snowy white wolf with piercing black eyes appeared in a crouching position, with obsidian fangs pulled back in a vicious snarl: 4 Stars, LIGHT Attribute, Beast-Type, 1400 ATK and 1100 DEF. "And thanks to this card's special ability, I can summon 2 more Lunar Wolves in my Deck straight to the field" And soon, two more identical wolves appeared in the same crouching position as the first. "Next, I'll place these two cards face-down and end my turn" Sairu finished as two larger cards appeared behind his pack of wolves.

Turn 3: Kaiba LP: 4000: "Heh. Those puppies don't stand a chance, but oh well. It's on your head that this is going to happen" Kaiba sneered as he drew his next card: "Interdimensional Matter Transporter". "Now, Blue-Eyes White Dragon, attack his middle wolf with White Lightning Attack!" In response to his master's bellow, the dragon opened his mouth and a stream of white electricity rocketed forward and decimated the centre of Sairu's wolves in an instant. "That's enough punishment for now. I'll end my turn but don't you dare make this any more boring for me than you already have" he declared warningly as his turn ended.

Turn 4: Sairu LP 4000: Gritting in frustration, Sairu drew his next card: "Lunar Berserker". 'Mr. Muto said that to summon higher levels, I had to sacrifice other monsters I already have. So do I or not?' Sairu thought as he stared at the imposing Blue-Eyes overhead. 'Trust your instincts, Sairu. I can't guide you through everything' Eraqus stated reassuringly as Sairu thought to himself and decided: I sacrifice my Lunar Wolves to Summon Lunar Berserker" he called as the wolves disappeared only to be replaced by a single male with shaggy black hair and slit pupils tied in a ponytail, dressed in a black cloak with a crest of overlapping circular edges, torn black trousers that only reached to his knees and was barefoot: 7 Stars, DARK Attribute, Beast-Warrior Type, 2800 ATK and 1200 DEF. "Then, I'll activate my Lunablade, giving my Berserker an additional 700 attack and defence points" in the Berserker's right hand, appeared the all too familiar white rapier that shrouded it in a pale aura, as its statistics show its increase: 28003500 ATK and 12001900 DEF.

"Now, I activate Lunar Berserker's special ability; once per turn, I can change this card's Attribute to LIGHT" Sairu declared as his monster suddenly grew in size, his cloak thrown back to reveal his overly muscular physique, his nails on his hands and feet elongating and sharpening, his ponytail unravelling as his canines became more pronounced and emanating a ferocious growl which escalated into a roar. "Lunar Berserker, attack his dragon with Berserker's Howl" As his roar became increasingly deafening, Blue-Eyes White Dragon began to recoil, until Kaiba, unfazed, called "Nice try, but I activate my face-down card, Shadow Spell": Once the card revealed itself, black chains crackling with black energy wrapped around Lunar Berserker, and growling in pain, it felt its power being drained: ATK: 35002800. "Now your monster can't attack at all, and you can't change it into defence mode; not to mention losing 700 attack points as a nasty bonus" Gritting his teeth in frustration, Sairu could only watch as his monster gritted its own teeth in agony. "I end my turn" Sairu said reluctantly.

Turn 5: Kaiba LP: 4000: "Ha! You're mine!" Kaiba says as he draws next card: "Crush Card Virus". "Blue-Eyes, attack his monkey man now!" And at his command, the dragon unleashed its ferocity and vaporized Lunar Berserker, dealing Sairu some damage: Sairu LP: 4000 3800. "I'll end that there with this card face-down" Kaiba finished as he placed another card on the field.

Turn 6: Sairu LP: 3800: "Oh man, what do I do? This'll have to do! I Summon this monster in defence position" Sairu stated as a card appeared in front of him horizontally. "That's all!"

Turn 7: Kaiba LP: 4000: "Here goes!" Kaiba calls as his next card appears: "Ring of Destruction". "Blue-Eyes White Dragon, destroy his monster now!" Kaiba exclaimed as yet another streak of white energy vaporised Sairu's Lunar Warrior. "I'll place this last card face-down and end my turn. This is getting boring, kid. Come on, if this is the best you've got, you can't call yourself a Duelist. You're even worse than Wheeler, to be honest" Kaiba stated as he smirked satisfyingly as Joey tried to jump him, only to be stopped by Tristan.

Turn 8: Sairu, frustratingly, draws his next card: "Lunar Phantom". "This card is my only chance. I summon this card in defence mode and with that, I'll end my turn" Sairu stated despondently. 'This is bad. If this effect doesn't work, I'm done' Sairu thought as he saw Kaiba prepare his next move.

Turn 9: Kaiba LP: 4000: Kaiba draws "Monster Reborn". "Alright. We're done with this poor excuse of a Duel. I activate my Trap Card, Ring of Destruction" Subsequent to his outburst, his left face down card reveals a black ring with red ovals covering the radius appeared, encircling the neck of Sairu's face-down monster: a black skeleton enshrouded in a white robe with a scythe with a white shaft and a black blade. "What? What are you doing?" Sairu stated nervously. "Since you asked so kindly, my Ring of Destruction destroys a monster on the field and both players now take damage to that monster's Attack points. Ordinarily, that is. Which is why I have this card, my Ring of Defence" as he spoke, he revealed another card: a grey ring with yellow edges that unfolded and revolved at high speed. "As its name suggests, Ring of Defence will prevent me from taking any damage once your monster explodes. Now, it's over. Say farewell to your monster!" With a swing of his hand, the Ring of Destruction's protrusions glowed before they detonated in a powerful explosion, dealing Sairu 1400 points of damage: Sairu LP: 3800 2400.

"Now, Blue-Eyes, attack his Life Points directly!" Kaiba declared and as Blue-Eyes unleashed its ferocious assault once more, Sairu simply gave Kaiba a determined gleam and moments before Sairu swept across with his hand, revealing a Trap Card of his very own: "Retribution" Sairu simply said as he placed his remaining cards from his hand into the Graveyard. As a result, whilst the attack struck its mark, Sairu rose his right hand and a replica of the energy shot towards Kaiba. "This Trap deals you the same amount of damage that I have taken by discarding my entire hand. I have lost this duel, but I'll not make it easy for you" Sairu finished as his counter dropped and he was thrown backwards by the sheer power of the dragon: Sairu LP: 2400 0. At this, the same energy rocketed and struck Kaiba, cutting his Life Points by 3000; Kaiba LP: 40001000 (Kaiba wins).

As Sairu laid there, Kaiba approached him, standing over him before retrieving the Duel Disk carefully but abrasively all the same. After removing the cards from the device, Kaiba tosses the cards to the ground without so much as a glance in Sairu's direction. "Hmph. That was about what I expected from a talentless hack like you. Still, that last move surprised me, so be glad I'm letting you keep your lousy Deck. You could have gotten worse punishment from my lawyers when they'd sue you but now that I have my disk back, we're finished here" he stated with utmost condescension as he walked away from Sairu who, rose to a sitting position and gathered the scattered cards. "Hey, hold it, Kaiba! That was really uncalled for!" Joey exclaimed after him, whilst Kaiba turned his head only slightly and remarked in a cold expression "Oh, please. This was business, Wheeler. And not the kind for chumps like you and him to be concerned with. Be glad I don't take your Duel Disk as well as his. Now if you'll excuse me, I have another appointment to keep… with Yugi" before turning his head back straight and walking off without another word.

Once Sairu stood again, Joey and Tristan approached him, concerned yet surprised by Sairu's unyielding expression. "Hey, you okay, pal?" Joey asked before Sairu replied "Yeah, no worries. Still, it does complicate matters if we run into more of those Heartless cards" "Forget that, Kaiba's going after Yugi. We gotta find him before Kaiba does" Tristan then piped up, not interested the least in possessed cards. "Yeah, we might as well find our little buddy" Joey added in agreement while Sairu simply stood confused. "Guys, fill me in here. Who is Yugi? And what does that snob Kaiba want with him?" "Long story short, Yugi's my best pal and is the world Duel Monsters champion. That honour once belonged to Kaiba and ever since Yugi beat his rich behind a while back, he's had it for Yugi ever since" Joey explained in return, and once was all said and done, Sairu suddenly realized something: there was a similar dark presence in Kaiba's Deck that he felt with that Duelist with the Heartless card. "I see. Then I'll help you. If Kaiba wants his title back, it's not surprising there was darkness around" Sairu explained. "Huh? What do you mean darkness? Wait a second… you know something about the Shadow Realm, don't you?" Tristan stated as he thought it all sounded familiar when he mentioned darkness. "Shadow Realm? Well, I know a place that sounds similar. But I'll explain later; we gotta find your friend Yugi, so let's go" Sairu stated affirmatively and once Joey and Tristan nodded in agreement, the trio tear off for their next location: Yugi Muto.

After their escapade through Disney Castle and satisfyingly ruining Maleficent's plans again, Sora, Donald and Goofy soon come across a familiar sight and ejecting from the Gummi Ship dressed in nostalgic horror gear, find themselves at a sign that revealed their present location: "Hey, this is Halloween Town, right?" Sora said as he looked at the jack-o-lantern scarecrow before him. "Well, it sure does look like Hallowee… Wha?" Donald trailed off as his attention was taken elsewhere to their right with Sora and Goofy in tow. Looking down the street ahead of them, they were surprised to find a familiar canine spectre circle them, taking them by surprise until they realised it was an old friend. "Hey, it's Zero! How've you been, boy?" Sora called as he absent-mindedly tried to pet him before he tore off down the street they were previously looking at. Giving chase, they found themselves in the town square, which for the most part was the same, except for some sort of great ramp in the centre. Just by looking around, the trio couldn't see a trace of the ghostly dog, but took note of the new addition to the environment: "What's that for?" Sora asked before a loud jingling sound rang out around them. Turning his bill to the sky, Donald found their answer. "It's Jack!" he exclaimed as indeed, circling around them in a makeshift coffin-sleigh led by skeletal reindeer, was the Pumpkin King himself as he brought the sleigh to land via the ramp.

Once the sleigh halted, he rose from the sleigh and turned to greet his old friends with a toothy grin and a wave. "Sora, Donald, and Goofy, and… huh? Oh, where's Sairu?" he greeted warmly before realising that someone was missing. "He had other things to take care of. Don't worry, we'll see him soon" Sora hastily explained as Donald and Goofy nodded in quick succession. "Oh dear, it's such a shame! I was particularly looking forward to seeing him. Oh well, in the meantime… welcome back, and Merry Christmas!" Jack stated cheerily. "Merry Christmas? Don't you mean 'Happy Halloween'?" Sora asked in bewilderment as Jack approached them. "Of course. Halloween greetings from Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King" he affirmed with his trademark scary face. "Forgive me. I'm in a Christmas mood. You see, I'm running the show again this year- but I need Sandy Claws' blessing, so I'm off to Christmas Town" he explained in his thespian tendencies. "'Sandy Claws'?" Sora asked his companions while Jack stood without notice. "I think he means Santa Claus" Goofy suggested. At this, Jack leaps over to the fountain and declares "Aren't these decorations wonderful? This year Halloween Town's going to handle Christmas too! But first! We have to visit Sally. She's working on something no self-respecting Santa Claus can do without. Come along- I'll show you!"

As he turned away, Sora said to himself and the others "A Halloween Town Christmas…" as they looked around, they took note of the guillotine blade, the failed attempts at toys and the cackles of the skeletal reindeers, all three of them shuddered at the thought. "Wanna go check it out?" Sora said as Donald and Goofy lowered their heads in defeat, knowing that Jack was not very persuasive as they discovered from their last visit. "C'mon, hurry!" Jack called back to them and regrouping with him, enter the Doctor's laboratory, letting nostalgia wash over them as they remembered their last visit to this place. Said doctor was currently enthralled in his large book, the familiar prank-loving trio of Lock, Shock and Barrel tinkering with a piece of metal that looked vaguely like a foot. As Doctor Finkelstein proceeds to open his head and massage his bare brain, Jack enthusiastically asks "Hello, Doctor! Where's Sally?" Unamused, the doctor irritably enquired "Can't you see… that I'm in the middle of an experiment?" He then turns to the assorted jumble atop the worktop as Lock, Shock and Barrel carry their metal foot thing and toss it on to the pile, whilst noticing another familiar face enter the lab: a perpetually worrisome Sally. "Hey, this is way too heavy!" Lock states and Shock responds "Then let's toss it!" At this, the still irritated doctor calls "You do and you'll be sorry! Now bring it over here" "Heave-ho" the pranksters called in perfect harmony as they toss the component onto the worktop, crackling with electricity as it collided with the surface.

Soon, the crackling escalated into a small explosion, much to the doctor's exasperation, with Sally giving a large sigh and Lock, Shock and Barrel simply cackling at their little stunt, having taken their masks off. "Imbeciles! Now my experiment is ruined!" he exclaimed as they bolted out the lab. Once they were out of sight, Jack and Sally approach each other, the former asking "Sally! Did you finish it? I want to show my good friends" he said. "I'm sorry, Jack. I… I need a little bit more time" she replied uncertainly. "Ohhh… Well, that's all right. Just as long as it's ready for Christmas!" Jack states reassuringly before walking past without hearing Sally respond "But… Jack…". "I'd best be off. I've got to go get Sandy Claws, right away! Wonderful to see you again. Good-bye for now!" Jack called cheerily as he turned towards the door. "Go get Santa Claus…?" Sora says aloud as he goes into thought. "Please, Sora. I'm afraid something terrible will happen if Jack goes through with this" Sally addresses him pleadingly. "You can say that again!" Donald heartily agreed. "Sora?" Goofy asked, but gets no response as Sora continues thinking, a dumbfounded smile on his face as he considers the likelihood of meeting the Santa. Soon, Jack interrupts his train of thought as he returns to ask Sora "Are those strange-looking fellow in the town square with you?"

"Huh? What 'fellows'?" Sora asked, unsure of what he means by that. "You know, the ones who wanted to spoil Halloween AND Christmas? What are they called again…" Jack thinks long and hard, scratching his skull head with a bony finger, before he says in a rather forgetful voice "… Heartless?" "They're definitely not with us. But Donald, Goofy and I can get rid of them for you. And then we can go see Santa!" Sora states in unabated excitement, much to Donald's chagrin, who tapped his foot in frustration whilst Sora was taken aback. "But first, the Heartless!" Sora added hastily, though Donald's position did not change as they ran out to deal with their eternal pest problem.
