Chapter 13: Well That Was Fast!
As morning came upon our heroes, Knuckles found Sonic sleeping beneath one of his dreadlocks. The guardian looked at Amy who was still sounding asleep; he let out a chuckle. "Boo!" the blue hedgehog said as he pushed aside the echidna's long, red dreadlocks. The guardian couldn't help but find his playful antics cute.
Sitting up, Knuckles took the blue hedgehog into his arms. He darted his eyes toward his sleeping companions, making sure none of them were awake to see what he was about to do. By the time he assumed they were all still in dreamland, the red echidna began to nuzzle Sonic's forehead.
The baby hedgehog just let out a tiny giggle.
"You missed me? You missed me! Aw, you know daddy won't ever leave you," Knuckles said in one of those sappy voices only people would use on their pets in private.
"Aboo!" Sonic cooed at the echidna, wanting to climb on his dreadlocks again. The echidna just sighed looking at the tiny mobian in his arms. "Sorry kid, my dreadlocks are in tangles right now. Later, ok?" Knuckles said, hoping that the young baby hedgehog wouldn't burst out in tears. Sonic let out a small whimper of rejection, signaling that he was about to cry.
Knuckles panicked as he quickly stood up. "Hey, come on now! Let's take a walk while we wait for the girls and Mr. Grumpysirgrumpsalot to wake up okay?" the red echidna told the now happy hedgehog in his arms.
So, the two walked off into the tall grass that surrounded the camp. Sonic couldn't help but to try and catch some of the tiny insects that flew around them. At one point, the little hedgehog was able to catch a dragonfly nearby, but since he didn't grab for the tail, the little hedgehog got a wicked bite from the dragonfly. "AAAAH!" Sonic cried as Knuckles sighed.
Taking his hand, the echidna nuzzled the tiny peach furred hand as Sonic's whimpers died down.
"Better?" the echidna chuckled as Sonic buried his head into Knuckles' shoulders. "A-aba…" the baby hedgehog whimpered as he licked his supposed daddy's cheek. Knuckles couldn't help but smile a little; the kid was pretty cute as a baby. Though, the feeling of hedgehog saliva still bothered him.
The duo walked around for a little longer before Knuckles decided that everyone might've already waked up by now. Turning around, the echidna lead the way back to the campsite.

"Sonic the hedgehog, I thought I lost you!" Amy said in relief as she nuzzled the tiny hedgehog in her arms. Sonic let out a tiny whine; even as a baby, the blue hedgehog still couldn't accept the sweet affection of his 'biggest' fan.
"You know sweet cheeks, I heard you talking' to the little cutie this morning~"
Knuckles blushed, "What? I didn't say anything!"
"Sure you didn't, Knuckie~"
Before the echidna could fight off the bat's statement with one of his remarks, Shadow spoke up his voice still groggy from waking up. "So, where should we head off? There seems to be a fork in the road up ahead…"
"Ah geez, left is surely the way to go?" Knuckles offered as the echidna walked off. The group followed, hoping the echidna had chosen wisely.
As time passed by, the group noticed nothing new but patches of grass and clods of dirt blocking their entry.
Sonic was busy admiring the scenery around him while the others were starting to grow worried.
"Knuckles, are you sure we're on the right track?"
"Hey, I picked the path and no one objected. Come on, we're bound to hit civilization sooner or later!" the echidna said trying to bring up the mood. Shadow just snorted in amusement, to which the echidna responded with a glare. "So, why are we looking for this 'Silver' guy anyway?" Rouge asked. Knuckles cupped his chin as he tried to remember what Tails had told him.
"Well, Tails says that Silver knows how to get to Blaze's dimension—"
"That girl that beat your red butt to the ground?"
"She TICKED me off okay? Anyways, I don't understand how those two know each other, but hey, best to not ask questions I guess," Knuckles commented with a tad sound of a 'hiss' in the beginning.
As the crew walked on, they decided to take a pit stop under a tree beside a lake. Sonic decided to chase a butterfly while the grownups argued about…their supposed navigator.
"Aboo?" Sonic cooed as he began to chase the little flying bug by crawling.
The butterfly flew higher and farther way as Sonic continued to chase it.
"Abaaa!" the blue hedgehog cried as he tried to catch the butterfly by bringing his hands up and bounce a couple of times. "Ooooh…" Sonic said as the bug flew away by flying higher and higher until it became a black dot in the sky.
Frowning, Sonic decided to turn around. The blue hedgehog tilted his head when he saw none of the grownups behind him.
"Awawawa…" the baby babbled.
Suddenly a patch of grass began to move from behind, Sonic's ears perked up at the noise.
This might have been a bad idea to follow after all…

"I swear, why don't I just fly around and find civilization that way?" Rouge inquired with a flick of her hand.
"Please, I'm the better hunter here!" Knuckles remarked.
Rouge just huffed, "As if Knuckie, at least I use my brain instead of your excuse for a noggin!"
The echidna was beginning to get ticked off as Amy tried to hold him back from injuring the teasing bat. Rouge always loved seeing this side of Knuckles, angered, ticked off, with a dash of furious mixed up in the emotions. The white bat found the echidna much more attractive that way. "That's it; I don't care if you're a girl! I'm going to punch you whether you like it or not!" Knuckles hollered as he tried to break free from Amy's grip on his stomach.
"My, my…someone's certainly starting to show some attitude! I love it!" Rouge clasped her hands in an adoring fashion.
"Let me kill her!" Knuckles cried.
Amy sighed as she still held onto the angry echidna from attacking.
Shadow just shook his head as he decided to fix one of his inhibitor rings. Though while he was looking down at the ground, something came into realization to the ebony hedgehog. Where was that baby faker? Crimson eyes searched behind Amy and Knuckles to find nothing but grass and the shade of the tree. "Umm…guys…"
"Let me have her!"
"Why can't you show more of this attitude for me?"
"Guys!"
"Knuckles!"
"Rouge you better shut up!"
"Oh Knuckie, why would I want to do tha—"
"YO, MOBIUS TO YOU MORONS WITH DEAF EARS! SONIC'S MISSING!" Shadow shouted, nearly spitting it out in the process.
The three grownups looked at Shadow and then to the back of them.
"Fudge nuggets…" Knuckles whispered before Amy let out a deafening scream of worry, surprise, and anger mixed with.
Oh the agony…

As the figure stepped out of the patch of grass, lightning yellow eyes gazed in confusion as he saw a blue baby sitting in front of him. "Now who'd leave a poor baby out here? Geez, mobians these days…" the ivory hedgehog sighed as he picked up Sonic who let out a tiny whine. The hedgehog just smiled in reassurance.
"Relax little guy, I won't hurt you. Just be glad that I found you; come on, let's go have some snacks back at my camp site!" the hedgehog said nuzzling Sonic's neck.
"Ba!" Sonic said, nuzzling the ivory hedgehog's chest fur.
Somehow, the touch felt so familiar…
It felt like that mysterious ebony hedgehog's though…much softer!
"Aw, aren't you sleepy… Hey, I have a sleeping bag in my tent; you can just sleep in their while I try to cook us up some lunch alright?" the hedgehog explained as he heard the baby purred in response. "Haha, ok kid. I gotcha!"

The group had been scavenging the place for a long time now.
Where could Sonic be?
"Knuckles, we're going to kill you…"
"Hey, I did nothing! You guys weren't paying attention either!" Knuckles shouted in defense while Shadow had to cover his ears from the sudden loud volume of the guardian's voice. "Quit with the shouting, I'm right here!" Shadow yelled back, smacking Knuckles in the back of his head, "You moron…"
Knuckles groaned in response.
Amy, on the other hand, was keeping her eyes out for any clues on where Sonic might have gone. Nothing, not even a single footpri—wait, there seemed to be tiny lines being dragged along the grass beneath it.
Could it be?
Yes, it has to be!
Looking behind her, Amy found Knuckles and Shadow in a choke-hold with each other as Rouge just sat in the air (flying with her wings of course).
"Guys, we can save the whole killing each other scenario later! I found tracks that can lead us to Sonic!" Amy called out as everyone stared back at the pink hedgehog, which was walking by the lines on the grass.
The three soon followed suit.
Unbeknownst to them, a shadowy figure appeared behind. He was crystalized purple hedgehog with red, ruby eyes. The hedgehog let out an audible laugh.
"Sonic you say? That putrid hedgehog is still alive from my little magic crystal sword? Well, this will certainly be fun for me…" the crystalized hedgehog let out another evil laugh before disappearing into the shadows again.
Within a minute, the black liquid portal vanished in seconds.
Shadow felt a sudden shiver run up his spines. Something was wrong, very wrong…but what?
As the crew ventured further, Amy stopped as she saw a blurry figure in the distance. "Hey, look!" Amy said as she motioned the others to follow her. The bad feeling began to tug harder at Shadow, what was wrong? Could it be that person up ahead? What was it?
Once the crew came closer, they stopped, their eyes widened.
No, it couldn't be…
The figure let out a laugh and walked ever so slowly to the group of four. His image was piercing. How, how could that hedgehog share the same form as Shadow!?
"Well, well, we meet again…Shadow the hedgehog, or should I say…supposed ultimate lifeform!"
"Shadow, you know this guys?"
"Other than looking like me…hell no!"
Mephiles just laughed, "Oh, you know me well Shadow…yes, very well!"
The ebony hedgehog gulped. Could this bad feeling he'd been feeling come from this splitting copycat of an image? Possibly!
