"I think…if we're going to be friends that maybe I should start sleeping in my own bed," Finnick suggests as light begins to flood the room. We're both naked. My head moves up and down with the movement of his breathing. His fingers are tangles in my hair.

"Or…" I roll off of him and onto my stomach, "we could just refrain from having sex with each other? I'm sure Annie would appreciate that."

Finnick laughs, pushing himself up into a sitting position. He flips the window image to night again before answering me. "Do you really care about Annie's feelings or are you feeling guilty because of Gale?"

I chew on my lip, avoiding making eye contact with Finnick. He's too good at reading the emotions on my face. I hate and love him for it. I guess we really do make good friends. He doesn't let me get away with too much and I've gotten less scared of calling him out when he's being pompous. "Both I guess."

"But you want me to continue to sleep next to you?"

"I guess I just like someone else being there."

Finnick nods his understanding. "How about if you need me you can come across the hall. I don't want Gale to hate me before he even meets me."

I push Finnick in the shoulder, "I'm not the one he loves remember? If you slept with Katniss…now that would be a different story."

Finnick rolls his eyes into the back of his head, "Horne, he's an idiot if he doesn't love you."

With that he gets up and walks back across the hall.

"What the hell does that mean?" I grumble before pulling on a robe that was left by my stylists.

"Coffee," I yawn to one of the girls standing along the wall before I melt into the couch. They seem to recede further into the background every time I walk out here. I wonder if this is the kind of effect the Capitol has on people. After you're here for a while people who 'don't matter as much' slowly fade into the scenery unless you need something. I feel bad for allowing this to happen. If we stop seeing the people we need to fight for there isn't a reason to fight. "Make something for yourself too."

The avox almost drops my cup of coffee when she hears my words. I guess they aren't used to being treated like people. I can hear another cup being pulled out of the cabinet. A few more seconds and she places both of them on the glass table in front of the couch. I motion for her to sit next to me. The girl looks around for a few seconds like she's expecting me to tell her I'm just joking or that someone would come through the door and take her away.

"It's okay. You can sit. Do you have a name?"

The girl moves her arms up and down like a bird. I try and hide my smile. I don't want her to think I'm making fun of her condition.

"Bird?"

The girl shakes her head, a few strands of her brown air falling from her braid. The arm movement is repeated. I try and think of all the different kinds of birds I know.

"Sparrow?"

She nods excitedly a smile pulling the edges of her light pink lips up into a smile. Sparrow looks like Katniss.

"How long have you worked for Finnick?"

The girl blushes, holding up three fingers.

"Three years?"

A nod.

"How'd you get the way you are?"

Sparrow frowns making the motions of writing on a paper. I get up to find a piece for her. She writes quickly, her bottom lip pulled up between her teeth.

Tried to run away. Didn't make it out of the Capitol. Should have just staid.

I shake my head quickly, "No, you shouldn't have. One day I'll come back and get you out. Okay?"

She holds out her pinkie to me, taking my hand in her other and wrapping my pinkie around hers. I don't understand the gesture but I'm assuming it's some sort of pact or promise. I just nod. I want to ask her why she decided to run but decide against it as Finnick walks into the sitting room.

"I see you've met one of my avoxs."

"Her name is Sparrow," I answer as the girl quickly stands up and takes our empty dishes to the kitchen.

"Well, I have to go entertain my renter. We'll leave when I get back. Can you handle being away from me for a few hours?"

"You're being an ass Finnick," I respond not even bothering to look over at him. "It's not a good look on you."

"Grumpy and self loathing isn't a good look on you but I put up with it," he answers.

"If you're trying to provoke me into sleeping with you again it won't work."

Finnick lets out a laugh, "Just testing you."

"Watch yourself Odair. Don't want me telling Annie about your indiscretion," I answer back completely over the game that he's playing. He's the one that said we needed to stop sleeping together in order to just be friends.

"You wouldn't dare."

"Don't push me."

"Have a good day Horne. I will miss you terribly."

"Same to you Odair. Don't get yourself into too much trouble," I answer turning so that he can see me wink at him.

"No promises," and then the door shuts and I'm alone.

Sparrow comes back to the couch, forming a heart shape with her hands.

"No, Finnick is just my friend."

She laughs a little as I flip through a device Bogg gave me that has all the pictures and information that we've gathered about the allies we already have and the ones we still want. Eventually, I come to a picture of Gale, showing it to Sparrow. She raises an eyebrow, making the heart shape again. I nod. "He doesn't love me back through."

Sparrow frowns, drawing a question mark in the air.

I flip through the pictures again finding Katniss's page, Sparrow looks over my shoulder. She frowns when I point to the girl on the screen.

You're prettier. Is written on the paper.

"Thanks. I don't think that really matters in this situation though."
