Hello everyone~! Sorry about any wait, but I want to say: this story should be finished sometime around late September/early October. So, expect lots and lots of updates now that school is finished and I have limited free time! :D Please enjoy this chapter here, and I must admit that I was excited to see that I had 42 reviews, because for a moment I imagined my story to be the answer to the universe. ^^ Sorry for the weird/nerdy thought, but please R&R before you go! Thanks a ton! (Disclaimer: I own nothing but the stories plot.)
The Maple Leaf Crown Chapter 11: Arrangements and Fine Webs
"Hello. This is Canada speaking." The Canadian nation spoke firmly into the phone, too mentally exhausted to soften his voice politely. The gruff voice on the other end started speaking at a rapid rate in German, a language he was not very familiar with. A few words were obvious, like Liechtenstein, while the female in question was unconsciously moving closer to hear the conversation. Trying to maintain concentration instead of glomping the adorable girl in front of him, Canada quickly interrupted when Switzerland drew in breath.
"I do not speak German, and unless you wish your sister to translate for me, you will have to speak either in English or French. However, my brother is visiting and understands both...albeit only a little French. Would you prefer to meet elsewhere and discuss?" Both his new ward and brother looked at him in wide-eyed astonishment. Canada felt a warmth spread across his face as everything went utterly silent. Did he cross the line? America held up his hand for a shocked high-five, a grin spreading all the way to his ears. The following slap resounded around the whole house, startling Liechtenstein out of her surprised daze. A tentative smile grew in size at the thought of her bruder's face. How long had it been since he had been interrupted like that?
"...Alright then. I agree with this plan, meet me in London in thirty minutes. Bring Liechtenstein with you and the 'trusted associate' you had watching her last time." Switzerland abrubtly hung up as Canada clicked his phone shut with practiced ease. He looked towards Kumajiro and saw the tiredness peaking through his eyes. Sighing, the Canadian nation turned to his smirking brother with slight despair.
"Can you come with me to watch Liechtenstein?" America's loud laugh and promises of teasing England almost covered the small voice of the female nation in question. A delicate hand grabbed Canada's sleeve and tugged him down to her level softly. Her eyes bore into his with a sad twinkle, a pout if he has ever seen one. The Canadian nation could feel his heart literally melting even as his mind prepared for some sort of request….but darn. Liechtenstein came closer, smiling at his beguiled expression, and sweetly asked her question.
"Aren't I old enough to watch myself? I'm not a child you know. I watched myself when you went to Prince Edward Island a little while ago." Canada smiled inwardly in amusement at the thought of her being a child, she most decidely was not. The male started to entertain thoughts of obeying her simply request but hurriedly resolved the thoughts with new ones of Liechtenstein lost in London. Straightening up and, regretfully, moving out of her reach, Canada shook his head in a silent negative. The female nation, nodding in frustrated understanding, turned back to her embroidery, working in almost stony silence. The Canadian nation moved to the hallway to grab some money from his room, feeling America following him.
"Dude, you LIED to Switzerland and Liechtenstein. All hell will break loose if either finds out. I mean, you'll be riddled with holes for lying about leaving someone to watch her and she will NOT be happy to know that you went the World Meeting without her." America laughed again, bending over in mirth-ignoring the scathing glare his brother was giving him. After a few minutes of wasted glaring, Canada rolled his eyes and continued about his business. Still laughing, the American nation blocked the living room door and quickly calmed down. Staring up, although there was not very much difference in the ways of height, into Canada's eyes with his square glasses glinting in the early morning sunlight; America put a shoulder on his shoulder.
"Seriously, what will you do? You love her, but you have a fine little web starting." Canada squeezed the hand on his shoulder, gave his brother the 'fists of determination', and walked towards the seated Liechtenstein. She looked up at his approach and together they walked out of the house, into the freshly piled snow that would make England a wonderful slush-land. Grimacing at the thought of mud-colored slush, America put on his jacket and followed them out into the powder. "Bro, I will be asking for Britain's opinion."
After opening and closing the car door for Liechtenstein, Canada turned around with a small smile playing on his features. "You must be desperate to ask England for advice." His voice had returned to its normal soft sound, its calming effect making America think that everything would be okay. However, the teasing was obvious in his tone and he was not about to back down from such a golden opportunity. He shook his head with a bright smile and proclaimed in a loud voice. "I'm not the one who asked for it first." The American nation chortled as an embarrassed flush lite up Canada's skin. This was going to be an interesting experience.
