CHAPTER FOURTEEN: The Tournament Begins
It had been about a week since Alexis' duel with Camula. Duel academy had more or less returned to normal. Dai and Alexis were sitting together in the clearing near the Slifer dorm the two had taken to going to. Alexis had started wearing Camula's Shadow Charm Choker ever since winning it in the duel.
"I'm worried Lex." Dai said as the two teens sat on a log. "These Shadow Rider duels are no joke. I mean when I dueled Nightshroud and won at least your brother was still spared in the end. But then we battled Camula and both Crowler and Zane lost their souls when they lost, and even when you beat her she lost her soul too. Dueling isn't a just matter of fun anymore."
Alexis nodded in agreement. "You're right Dai, but we agreed to this when the chancellor asked us, and he really didn't sugar coat it beforehand." She pointed out.
"Yeah you're right, I guess I just wasn't as prepared as I thought for the reality of it all." Dai said.
"I understand what you mean." Alexis agreed. "When I dueled Camula it was intense, I actually felt the attacks of her monsters, but thanks to you and your Shadow Charm I was able to duel her at full power instead of letting her set the pace and now I have my own Shadow Charm."
Dai smiled at his girlfriend. "Yeah and now we need to figure out how to use them so we are on an even playing field with the rest of the Shadow Riders." He pointed out.
"Maybe we should ask Professor Banner, after all he is the Academy's leader on paranormal dueling." Alexis suggested.
"That sounds like a good idea Lex, let's go see Banner." Dai said before they both got up and went in search of Banner.
They found Banner sitting in the Slifer Red cafeteria with his cat Pharaoh. "Hello children, I was wondering when the two of you would come to see me." He said as the two of them walked up to him.
"You know why we're here?" Dai asked.
"Yes I suspected the reason after the duel with Camula." Banner said turning to Alexis. "Alexis you now wear the Shadow Charm worn by Camula and you Daisuke, wear the completed Charm that the Gravekeeper Chief had. I am guessing the two of you would like to know how to use your respective Charms so that you can fight the Shadow Riders on an even field."
"Yeah Professor that's right, we need to learn how to use these Charms." Dai confirmed.
"Unfortunately I will not be able to be of assistance in this endeavor. While I know about ancient dueling traditions and Shadow Games, these Shadow Charms you have are a mystery to me." Banner confessed. "Perhaps your brother will be of more help to the two of you in learning to control them." He suggested seeing their crestfallen looks.
Alexis perked up at this. "That's a great idea Professor, if anyone can help us with this Atticus will be able to." Grabbing Dai she took off toward the Obelisk Blue dorm.
They found Alexis' brother sitting on a bench outside the dorm strumming a guitar. Looking up he saw the young couple walking his way. "Hey guys, what's up?"
"Hey Atticus, how are you?" Alexis asked her brother.
"I'm doing okay, it feels good to be back at Duel Academy." He said with a smile, leaning back and allowing some of the sunlight to hit his face.
"Hey Atticus, I've got to ask you something." Dai said seriously, immediately getting his attention. "Do you know anything about how to control these Shadow Charms?"
Atticus immediately became serious as well. "I don't remember much about when I was under the Shadow Rider spell, but I do remember that the only way to really control the Shadow Charms is to use them in a duel. The more you use them the more control you gain."
"So in order to control these Charms we have to participate in more Shadow Games?" Alexis asked, worried about the repercussions of that course of action.
Atticus shook his head. "Shadow Games allow you to gain more control because the stakes are higher, but regular duels will still let you gain control of the Shadow Charms." He explained.
Dai had a thoughtful look on his face as ideas began to form for how to get in as many duels as he could before the next Shadow Rider appeared. Suddenly he snapped his fingers as a thought struck him. "That's it." He said excitedly.
"What Dai?" Alexis asked.
"We could have a duel tournament." Dai said. "We can convince the Chancellor to hold one here on the island so that way we can get control of our Shadow Charms."
Both Alexis and Atticus had large smiles on their faces. "Dai that's brilliant." Alexis said before getting a worried look on her face. "But what if another Shadow Rider appears while this tournament is going on?"
"Well, it won't be much different than if one shows up right now. You'll have to duel them regardless, and maybe with this tournament it will give you some cover so that the regular students don't become suspicious of you for having crazy duels." Atticus suggested, liking the idea of a duel tournament.
Dai nodded in agreement. "What do you say Lex? Shall we go talk to the Chancellor about it?"
"Yeah lets go for it. I mean the worst he could do is to say no." She said as the two took off heading towards Sheppard's office.
"So that's our idea Chancellor." Dai said a little while later. He had explained his and Alexis' idea for the duel tournament.
Sheppard had a thoughtful expression on his face as he contemplated the idea brought to him by these two students. On the one hand it would allow Daisuke and Alexis to gain better control of their respective Shadow Charms as well as cover the rest of the students should another Shadow Rider appear. However on the other hand it may put his other students in danger if they ran across one of said Shadow Riders.
"That is a very interesting idea Daisuke. What would be the prize for the winner of the tournament?" He asked.
Dai thought about it for a moment before answering. "How about the winner is allowed to take a single bad grade from any test we've had this year, even the mid term, and change it to a perfect score?" Dai suggested.
Sheppard smiled at Dai's suggestion. "That sounds like a very good prize for the winner Daisuke. Very well, I believe that this will not only allow the two of you to gain sufficient experience with your Shadow Charms to battle the remaining Shadow Riders, but it will also boost the morale of the remaining students, and with such an enticing prize for the winner I'm certain everyone will be dueling at their very best. Now I must gather the Department Chairs so that we can get the details for the tournament worked out, as well as the general rules."
The next day Sheppard announced the tournament as well as the rules and the prize for the winner. The rules were fairly simple and straightforward. The regular tournament would begin the next day, Monday, and last until that Friday. Every student enrolled at the Academy was eligible to participate in the tournament and anyone could challenge anyone else to a duel, however you could only challenge someone one time. Everyone's duel disks would keep track of their respective win/loss record during the five-day tournament. At the end of the day on Friday everyone would have their record compared and the eight duelists with the best records would be the finalists. Those finalists would be randomly matched up for the first round and the winners would advance until the winner was crowned. The finals would take place over the weekend.
Sheppard brought all of the Key Keepers into his office after he announced the tournament. "Now that you are all here I would like to share something with each of you. This tournament is for more than just a good grade on a test." He said to everyone in attendance.
Chazz and Bastion nodded, figuring that there was something more to the tournament. "So why have it then?" Chazz asked.
"Well for a few reasons. For one it will give a morale boost to the student population after all of the strange happenings of this school year. Also the main reason we are having this tournament is it will give all of you a chance to duel tough opponents in order to sharpen your skills and be ready for when the next Shadow Rider appears. The final reason is to allow Daisuke and Alexis to not only sharpen their skills but to allow them to gain control over their respective Shadow Charms. They were informed by Atticus that dueling would help them gain control of the abilities that the Shadow Charms provide." Sheppard explained.
"I have a question Chancellor, if this tournament is a pretense to get us ready for the Shadow Riders, then why are Crowler and I here? We've both already lost our spirit keys." Zane asked.
"Hey just because you guys lost doesn't mean we shouldn't keep you both in the loop on what we're planning." Dai said.
"Now that everything has been explained, go and prepare for the tournament." Sheppard instructed, getting nods from everyone before they all left.
The next morning Dai was heading out to begin his first day of the tournament. Walking outside he saw Alexis standing outside his dorm. "Good morning Lex, you're up early today." He said to her in a joking manner.
"You're right Dai, but I'm up early for a reason, I want you to be my first opponent for the tournament. I figure if the two of us battle now, we wont have to battle later, at least not unless we both make it to the finals, and this way we can both gain control of our Shadow Charms." Alexis said before she gave him a mischievous wink. "Besides, I want to see how my deck stacks up to yours since I gave it a few upgrades."
Dai smiled at his girlfriend. "Alright Lex, since you challenged me, I'll let you choose which one of my decks you want to face." He said to her.
"Well since I've already dueled against your spellcaster deck, I want to face your fiend deck." She said.
Dai nodded and pulled out his deck and pulled up his hood. Both duelists activated their duel disks.
"Duel!" They both said.
Dai {4000LP}
Alexis {4000LP}
"Since you challenged me I think I will make the first move." Dai said as he drew. "I summon Zure, Knight of Dark World." Dai's monster appeared on the field, it was a knight with purple skin and bone armor with a dark blue cloak carrying a long sword with a bony hilt (1800AP). "I'll also lay a facedown and end my turn."
"Good start Dai, but I've got a better one. I play the Field Spell A Legendary Ocean." Alexis said as her field spell turned the area into an ancient city sunken into water. "Now thanks to this spell all Water attribute monsters in our hands and on the field have their level reduced by one, so now I can summon Royal Knight of the Ice Barrier without a sacrifice." She said as her knight in ice armor appeared (2000AP). "Oh and thanks to A Legendary Ocean Water monsters also gain and extra two hundred attack and defense points." Alexis' monster became stronger (2200AP). "Now Royal Knight of the Ice Barrier destroy Zure with Freezing Spear Thrust." Alexis commanded as her monster charged forward and thrust its icy spear into Dai's monster, coating it in ice and destroying it.
Dai {3600LP}
Alexis {4000LP}
As the two teens began their duel Chazz came out of his room and saw the two of them dueling, he was joined by Bastion and Syrus. "I guess the first duel of the tournament just started." Bastion commented, getting nods from Chazz and Syrus.
"Good move Lex, you caught me off guard with that, but I have an answer for that. I play Graceful Charity, so now I can draw three cards but I have to discard two, and one of the cards I choose to discard is Beige, Vanguard of Dark World. Since he was discarded due to a card effect I get to special summon him directly to the field." Dai said as his spear-wielding monster appeared straight from the grave (1600AP). "I also play the spell card Fiend Sanctuary, so I get one Metal Fiend Token." Dai said as the faceless metal monster appeared (0AP). "Now I sacrifice both of them in order to summon Flame Ogre." Dai said as his two monsters disappeared and his new one appeared. It was a large red skinned ogre covered in licks of fire (2400AP). "And since he was summoned normally I get to draw a car." He said as he drew his car. "Now take out her Knight with Fire Smasher." Dai commanded. His monster rushed forward and smashed both his flame-covered fists into Alexis' monster, destroying it.
Dai {3600LP}
Alexis {3800LP}
"Good move Dai. I play Dragon Ice in defense mode, thanks to A Legendary Ocean I can bring it out for free and it gains extra defense points." She said as her dragon appeared. It was an icy monster that has bony wings with ragged black skin wrapped around itself (2400DP).
"With a strong defense like that, Dai won't be able to attack Alexis." Syrus said seeing that the monsters were even.
"I also lay two cards facedown and end my turn." She said she ended her turn.
"A good defense Lex, but it wont help you." Dai said as he drew. "I summon La Jinn, The mystical Genie of the Lamp in attack mode." Dai said as his monster appeared (1800AP). "Next I reveal my facedown, Stop Defense, now it switches your Dragon Ice to attack mode." Dai said as Alexis' monster was forced to change position (2000AP). "Now that your defense is gone, Flame Ogre attack Dragon Ice with Fire Smasher." Dai's monster rushed forward with flame-covered fists.
"Not so fast Dai, my Mirror Force trap card definitely has something to say about that attack." Alexis interrupted as her trap activated. "It destroys all of your monsters in attack mode." The mirrored trap card reflected Dai's attack and destroyed his monsters.
Dai scowled at seeing his monsters destroyed. "I lay one card facedown and end my turn."
"Now its time for me to finish this duel Dai." Alexis said as she drew. "I sacrifice my Dragon Ice to summon Frostasaurus with the help of A Legendary Ocean. And he gains a power boost as well." She said as a huge dinosaur covered completely in ice appeared (2800AP). "Now, attack Dai directly." She commanded as her monster charged forward to stomp Dai.
Dai {800LP}
Alexis {3800LP}
"Man that was brutal Alexis, but it's my turn now." Dai said as he drew. "First to get rid of that field spell. I play Mystical Space Typhoon, so now A Legendary Ocean is gone." Dai said as the field spell dissolved and Alexis' monster lost power (2600AP).
"Nice move Dai, but I don't see how it really helps you. My monster is still set to stomp you on my next turn." Alexis said with a dazzling smile.
"That's not going to happen Lex." Dai assured her. "Not with this card. "Nightmare Steel Cage." Dai said as a large steel cage covered in spikes appeared around him. "Thanks to this card neither one of us is allowed to attack for two turns."
"That's a good defense for Dai. He can't attack, but neither can Alexis. It gives him some breathing room." Chazz observed as the duel progressed. Alexis had Dai on the defensive since the beginning of the duel.
'Man she really isn't holding back.' Dai thought as he looked through his hand. "Next I play Pot of Greed so I can draw two more cards, and I summon one monster in face down defense mode."
"You're just delaying Dai. That card won't help you forever." Alexis said as she drew. "I summon Blizzard Warrior in attack mode and end my turn." Her newest monster appeared. It was a large warrior with ice armor that had gold trim and carried a double bladed sword also made of ice (1400AP).
Dai drew his next card and grimaced. 'Not much for me to work with here.' He thought as he looked through the rest of his cards. "I summon another monster in face down defense mode and end my turn." He said as he set down his monster, and his Nightmare Steel Cage card disappeared.
"Now that your defense is gone Dai, I'm going to end this duel." Alexis said as she drew her new card. "Now Frostasaurus attack his facedown monster."
Dai smiled. "Thanks for that Lex, reveal Wall of Illusion." Dai said as his facedown monster was revealed. It was a skeletal wall with a dark red membrane running between the bones and a red haired woman's face in the middle (1850DP). Alexis' monsters still stomped it flat, but immediately disappeared back into her hand.
"What did you do?" She asked him, surprised by what happened.
Dai simply smiled. "Wall of Illusion has a special ability. Whenever it is flipped up by an attack it returns the monster that attacked it right back to its owner's hand. It still gets destroyed if the other monster is stronger, but your big hitter is gone, so it was worth it." He explained.
Alexis simply smiled and shook her head at he boyfriend's strategic planning. Off to the side Bastion whistled in appreciation, in one move he had not only stopped Alexis's monster from dealing him damage, he had also taken it off of the field entirely.
"You may have gotten rid of my Frostasaurus, but my Blizzard Warrior is still here. Now destroy his other facedown monster." She commanded as her monster slashed through the facedown monster.
"With the destruction of my Sangan I can now go through my deck and pick any monster with fifteen-hundred or fewer attack points and put it in my hand." Dai said as he flipped through his deck for the monster he wanted.
Alexis growled in frustration. "That's all for me this turn."
Dai drew his next card and smiled again. "Now it's time for me to even the playing field Lex. I summon Chaos Necromancer to the field and he has three hundred attack points for ever monster in my graveyard, and I have seven." The new monster wore purple armor trimmed in gold with dark blue and gold shoulder guards (2100AP). "Now destroy her Blizzard Warrior with Arrow of Bone." Dai commanded. His monster raised a hand and a bone arrow flew from its hand, striking Blizzard Warrior and destroying it.
Dai {800LP}
Alexis {3100LP}
"Now I lay another card facedown and end my turn." He said as he ended his turn.
Alexis scowled and drew a new card. "This should help my defense, I summon Pilgrim of the Ice Barrier in defense mode." Her new monster had long blonde hair and wore a red and gold robe. It was sitting cross-legged and had a snowflake shaped energy barrier in front of it (1000DP). "I also activate my facedown card, Medallion of the Ice Barrier. With this spell card I am allowed to search my deck for one Ice Barrier monster with fifteen hundred or fewer attack points and add it to my hand. And with that I end my turn." She explained as she searched her deck for a card.
Dai drew his next card. "Now I use Polymerization to fuse my Twin Headed Wolf with my Blast Asmodean to form Infernal Werewolf." Dai said as his new flame covered beast appeared (2100AP). "And since I put two more monsters in my graveyard Chaos Necromancer gets stronger as well." His second monster also gained strength (2700AP). "Now Infernal Werewolf, attack her Pilgrim of the Ice Barrier with Flame Pounce." Dai commanded as his monster's flames increased and he slashed through her monster. "And thanks to my Werewolf's special ability you still take damage even though your monster is in defense mode."
Dai {800LP}
Alexis {2000LP}
"And now to finish this duel. Chaos Necromancer attack with Arrow of Bone." Dai commanded his second monster. The bone arrow flew forward and struck Alexis dead in the chest.
"Not so fast Dai. Thanks to my Defense Draw trap card. This trap reduces the battle damage from your necromancer to zero and I get to draw a card." She explained, as her life points did not go down.
"Great move Lex. I end my turn." Dai said.
"This duel is far from over Dai." Alexis said as she drew. "I play the spell card Magic Triangle of the Ice Barrier. This card allows me to reveal three Ice Barrier Monsters in my hand and destroy one card on your side of the field. Then I get to special summon one Ice Barrier monster from my hand. I choose to destroy Chaos Necromancer and special summon Secret Guards of the Ice Barrier." She said as Dai's monster was destroyed and her monster appeared on the field. It was a young man with white hair, wearing a long blue scarf, a pair of billowing blue pants with gold trim, a blue sleeveless shirt with a snowflake symbol on the chest and carrying a pair of ice swords. {100AP}. "Next I play the spell card Ice Mirror, this card allows me to chose one level three or lower water monster I control and special summon a copy of it from my deck. So rise up Secret Guards of the Ice Barrier." She said as another monster appeared on her field {100AP}.
"This is gonna be some move." Syrus pointed out, seeing Alexis bring all her monsters together like she was. Chazz and Bastion both nodded in agreement.
"Now I sacrifice both of my monsters in order to summon up my best card, Black Ice Dragon." Alexis commanded as her monsters were replaced by her huge blue and black dragon {3000AP}. "Now destroy Infernal Werewolf with Breath of the Frozen Wasteland." Alexis commanded. Her dragon roared loudly and breathed a huge plume of icy wind onto Dai's monster and destroyed it.
Dai {0LP}
Alexis {2000 LP}
"Holy crap. Dai lost." Chazz said, stunned that his biggest rival lost to anyone.
"Great duel Alexis." Dai said, happy and a bit amazed by how strong his girlfriend had become. As the two of them finished their duel, the rest of the group walked up to congratulate Alexis on her victory. As they were all talking Professor Banner walked up to them. "Hello children, my that was certainly an exciting duel. Congratulations on your victory Alexis."
"Thanks Professor." Alexis said, slightly embarrassed by all the praise. "Chazz, the Chancellor said that he would like to see you." Banner said to the black-coated Slifer. "Sheppard? What for?" Chazz asked. "He didn't give me specifics, but he did mention something about the fate of Duel Academy." Banner said cryptically.
A short while later Dai, Chazz, and Syrus they were standing in the Chancellor's office. "I have some urgent news Chazz." Sheppard said. "Finally. My new bed arrived?" He asked arrogantly. "This isn't about your living arrangements." Banner said. "Then what?" "Well… someone is trying to buy out the Duel Academy, and that someone wants to get rid of all the teachers and students, and shut this place down forever." Sheppard said dejectedly. "Shut it down, why?" Dai asked.
"Without us, they can control the entire dueling world. But fortunately our owner has given us a sporting chance." Sheppard said. "It comes down to one duel." Banner explained. "Let me take them on. I can win this duel." Dai said, more than willing to fight for his school. "No. The duelist has already been chosen." Sheppard said giving a glance a Chazz. Dai immediately looked at his dorm mate. "So it's Chazz." He said as the videophone began ringing. "For some reason, they asked for him specifically." Banner said as he answered the phone. "I believe this is them now." "On screen." Sheppard ordered.
The screen activated and two faces appeared. "It's Chazz's brothers?" Syrus asked, in shock. "That figures." Dai said. "Lousy scrubs, what are you up to?" Chazz asked his older brothers. "Come on Chazz, don't you know? Jagger." Slade ordered. "Same thing." He said. "Complete world domination." They said together. "Remember? It was our little family project." Slade continued.
Chazz scoffed. "Your project maybe." He said dismissively. "Yeah, well now it pretty much has to be, huh Chazz?" Slade said angrily. "That's right, because you couldn't pull your weight. You couldn't conquer the world of Duel Monsters like we planned. So now Slade is just gonna have to do it for you." Jagger put in.
"So I'm dueling Slade?" Chazz asked incredulously. "You'll take him easy Chazz." Syrus said. "Totally, I mean Slade's just an amateur. You guys had better rethink your business strategy. Cause this one stinks." Dai put in, more than confident in his rivals dueling prowess. "No it doesn't." Slade said angrily. "Because there are a few conditions. First I get to use all these rare cards." He said as he held up a briefcase full of cards. "The same rare cards we gave you to use in the School Duel. Of course you refused to use them, and you lost. And there's one more thing Chazz, during our duel you're only allowed to duel with monsters that have less than five hundred attack points." Slade said. "Five hundred?" Syrus asked in shock. "This is a joke. Say no Chazz." Dai said, disgusted with the brothers trying to give themselves that kind of ridiculous advantage.
"It's too late. Kaiba has already accepted our terms, so it's already been decided." Slade said. "This isn't fair." Dai said. "No it's not, but then that's the point." Slade said as he began laughing. Dai walked up and hung up on the arrogant brothers.
"Guess we should go pack up." Chazz said as he started walking out of Sheppard's office. "Chazz wait, you can win this." Dai said. "You're wrong, there's no way I can. Duel Academy is through." Chazz said as he walked out. As Dai and Syrus followed behind him they heard most of the students in the halls talking bad about Chazz, saying that he planned on losing on purpose for his brothers. "You know what I think?" Dai said loudly to the whole crowd. You're all dead wrong. I know Chazz can win this duel. Because I've dueled him myself and duelists don't come any tougher."
"Yeah I know. That's exactly the problem Daisuke." Chazz said. "What does that mean?" Dai asked. "Honestly Chazz you're not making any sense." Bastion said as he and Alexis walked up to them. "Bastion's right. Being tough is usually a good thing Chazz." Alexis said. "Look it's…" Chazz began. "It's about Chazz being too tough. Specifically his deck." Zane interrupted. "It's about, Chazz not even being able to duel." He said. "What do you mean?" Syrus asked. "What I mean Syrus is that Chazz's deck is too powerful."
"My deck is a power deck and with the condition my brothers set it's useless. The only card I have that fits the conditions is him." Chazz said as he pulled out Ojama Yellow. "Are you serious? Just him?" Dai asked. "You can't make a deck with just one card."
"He may not need to." Banner said as he joined the group. "This is but a rumor, but given the circumstances it may be worth investigating. Now supposedly my students, deep in the woods sits a very old well, and within this well lay a great many cards. You see they were discarded by duelists who believed them too weak to ever use in their decks. Of course, the spirits of all those cards are quite angry for being left behind." He explained.
"Oh yeah? Well the Chazz has a feeling that they're going to be perking up real soon. Cause I'm gonna find that well and enlist some new monsters for my deck." He said, much to the cheers of his fellow classmates.
Sometime later Chazz and Dai were walking through the woods in search of the well that Banner told them about. "Why are you following me?" Chazz asked testily. "Because I want to see this well of weak monsters for myself." Dai explained. "Give me a break, like Banner said it's probably just a rumor." Chazz said before a ghostly apparition appeared before his face. Backing up quickly both he and Dai looked up to see several such spirits circling around them like a school of sharks. "They definitely don't look friendly." Dai pointed out. "Oh please. They're harmless." Chazz said confidently. As if to prove his point a few of the spirits tried to dive bomb the two students, only to harmlessly pass right through them. "Like I said, harmless. These are weak spirits. Kind of like the annoying roommate I got crashing in my deck."
It didn't take the two of them long to find the well from that point. They dropped a rope ladder down the well and climbed down. "Check out all these cards." Dai said. "It's just like Banner said." "You could build a weak deck in no time with these." Suddenly a pair of spirits popped out of their cards and walked over to them. "In case you knuckleheads hadn't noticed. This is private property." Said a small black duel spirit. "Yeah, that's telling them." Agreed a green spirit. "Numbskulls like you ditched us here, so we don't want you here." The black spirit said. The green spirit chuckled.
"These two… are a few cards short of a deck." Chazz said while rubbing his face with a hand. "Who you calling short chowder head?" The black spirit said. "Listen we didn't leave you here, but someone did. Cause you're weak." Chazz said. The two spirits immediately changed their tune and looked sad and forlorn. "It's true. We're weak." They said. The two of them immediately began hugging and crying extremely loudly. Chazz and Dai both put their hands on their ears to cover the noise. "Give it a rest. I'm sorry okay?" Chazz yelled over the two's crying.
"Nobody wants us, do they?" The black spirit asked rhetorically. "What's the racket?" Ojama Yellow asked from the top of Chazz's head. The black spirit gasped seeing Yellow. "Is that our?" He asked. "Black, Green, is that you?" Yellow asked in shock. "It's our lost brother Ojama Yellow." They both said together. The small spirit jumped off Chazz's head and into the arms of his brothers.
"Some family reunion." Dai said as they watched the three celebrate. "Yeah a dysfunctional one. I'm going." Chazz said as he got up and headed toward the ladder. "Boss isn't a big fan of duel spirits, he might decide to leave the two of you here." Yellow explained. "Leave us?" Black asked incredulously. "Who does he think he is? Hey, look at me when I'm talking to you." "I'd do what he says. He gets violent." Green advised.
"So much for weak." Dai commented. "You're taking us." Black and Green said together. "And us too. Don't forget us." Another group of duel spirits said as they all huddled around the Ojama brothers. "Well Chazz?" Dai asked. "Well I guess it can't hurt." He said in defeat. "Whoever wants to can come with me." He said, getting cheers from all of the spirits. "But there's one condition." "Let me guess, lots of hugs?" Yellow said as he floated up to Chazz and hugged him. "Hugs coming up Chazz." Black and Green said as they went to join their brother. Chazz immediately began trying to swat the spirits away.
The next day was the duel between Chazz and Slade. As Chazz and Dai walked toward the duel arena, Dai put his hand on Chazz's shoulder. "Here Chazz, I think you should take this. I think it will help you." Dai said as he handed Chazz a card. Chazz looked at it before smiling and nodding and putting it in his deck.
"Ladies and gentleman, today's match will determine the fate of Duel Academy." Came an announcer over the arena's loudspeaker. "Slade Wilson vs. Chazz Princeton. Now, are you ready to duel?" "If you wanna back out, tell me now." Slade said arrogantly. "Does this answer your question?" He asked as he inserted his deck into his duel disk and activated it. "Hah, bring it." Slade retorted.
"Duel." The both said.
Chazz {4000LP}
Slade {4000LP}
"Check this out." Chazz said as he drew his card. "I summon Soul Tiger in defense mode." Chazz said as his monster appeared. It was a tiger monsters seemingly made of light blue energy (2100DP).
"With that attack point handicap Chazz has on him, I bet we'll hear that a lot." Alexis commented. "But with those kinds of defense points that could be a good thing." Dai remarked.
"You're up bro." Chazz said. "Thank you, and I'll activate Polymerization, and fuse Lord of Dragons with Divine Dragon, Ragnarok. I summon King Dragoon." Slade said as his monsters bonded together and formed a new monster. It was a human upper body with the lower body of a serpentine dragon, and the entire monster glowed with a rainbow light (2400AP). "And check out it's special ability. Each and every turn he's on the field, I get to summon another dragon-type monster from my hand." He said as he revealed another dragon. "Like this one for example, Luster Dragon #2." His second dragon was summoned to the field. This one had emerald green scales and shards of green crystals; again the monster glowed with a rainbow light (2400AP).
"Oh man, this is definitely not looking good. Two monsters with twenty-four hundred attack points." Dai commented, watching the duel intently.
"Big whoop." Chazz said dismissively. "I think you mean big whooping." Slade retorted. "King Dragoon attack Soul Tiger with Fire Scourge." Slade ordered, and his monster raised its dragon shaped scepter and blaster Chazz's monster. "And now Luster Dragon #2 attack with Emerald Flame Attack." Slade's monster blasted Chazz directly with its breath weapon, engulfing Chazz in fire.
Chazz {1600LP}
Slade {4000LP}
"Damn, Chazz really got nailed." Dai said. "So much for all those defense points." Bastion said.
"Your move Chazz." Slade said, full of confidence. "About time." Chazz replied. "I'll throw a monster facedown in defense mode." Chazz said as his facedown card appeared. "That's it? This'll be even easier than I thought. I summon Luster Dragon in attack mode." Slade's newest monster was a blue dragon with a bulging head and small wings, and like all of Slade's monsters, it glowed with a rainbow light (1900AP). "And Dragoon's ability summons Hyozanryu." Slade said as his grey dragon with diamond flecks appeared with a rainbow glow (2100AP). "Four monsters?" Chazz asked sarcastically. "Congratulations you can add, but tell me little brother. How's your subtraction? Give him a lesson Dragoon and take out his last monster." Slade ordered. His monster raised its scepter and blasted Chazz's facedown monster. As soon as he did that an uncountable number of small, black-cloaked monsters appeared in front of all of Slade's monsters.
"What are these things?" He asked. "It's multiplication. When Unhappy Maiden is sent to the grave, hundreds of her little friends drop in and end your turn automatically." Chazz explained. Slade growled in frustration. "So you last a bit longer, it doesn't matter." "Yeah wanna bet?" Chazz asked his brother as he drew. "I call Spirit of the Breeze in defense mode." He said as his new monster appeared. It was a small green skinned fairy with blue hair and a yellow dress (1800DP). "And I'll activate the spell card The Dark Door. And as long as this door is open for business, we can only attack with one monster each round." Chazz said as his spell activated.
"Nice try bro, but it's only a matter of time before I bust that door down." Slade said as he drew his card. "And now, King Dragoon attack. Fire Scourge." He ordered and his monster destroyed Chazz's Spirit. "My turn." Chazz said as he drew. "I play Catnip Kitty." Chazz's new monster appeared. It was a small purple cat wearing a bell around its neck (500DP). "A cat?" Slade asked contemptuously. "You can do better?" Chazz fired back.
"Well you're about to find out." Slade said as he drew his card and smiled. "Perfect. With this little card, your school is as good as mine. But hey, first thing's first. Lets declaw that Kitty." Slade ordered and his monster destroyed Chazz's "Then I'll lay a facedown and end my turn." Slade said.
"A facedown card?" Alexis asked. "And I'm betting that he's planning to destroy Chazz's Door with it." Zane predicted.
"It's my draw." Chazz said. "Yeah that's right, and because it is my trap activates, Dust Tornado, and you know what's right in its path?" Slade asked rhetorically as his trap activated and the tornado destroyed Chazz's Dark Door.
"His one defense is gone, next turn Slade will attack with everything." Bastion said, worried about the fate of his school.
"Well bro, I'd say the school's ours." Jagger said confidently. "Prepare the wrecking balls." Slade added. "Not so fast bro." Chazz said, interrupting their gloating. "I play Painful Choice. I know you're a little slow, so I'll use small words. I choose five cards from my deck, then you choose one of the cards and that one gets added to my hand. So, what are you waiting for? Pick." Chazz said impatiently. "How scary, five weak cards from one weak deck. Whatever will I do? I'll pick the one card that's not a monster, Thunder Crash." Slade decided. Chazz put all of the monsters in the graveyard and added the spell card to his hand.
"Thank you, I was hoping you'd pick that one." Chazz said. "You were?" Slade asked. "But more about that later, now I play Enchanting Bidding Room. I pay eight hundred life points and get to look at four cards, and if any of them are level three or below, I can summon them." Chazz said as his cards appeared. "Now obviously Pot of Greed is no monster, but the three Ojama brothers are. Chazz said as the three monsters appeared (0AP X3).

"You are kidding. Don't tell me that you pinned your hopes on saving your little Academy on these three twerps?" Slade asked mockingly. "That's right, and you're about to see why." Chazz answered. "Sure they look funny, they smell real bad, nobody even likes them, and they never shut up, but these guys taught me something important. That good bro's support each other." "So I'm not a good bro?" Slade asked. "That's right, which is why I don't fell bad about doing this. I play a spell card, now do your thing." Chazz ordered as all three of his monsters jumped into the air. "Yellow. Black. Green." They said in order as they flew to the top of the arena. They then all floated together with their butts touching. "Combine." They said together. "Ojama Delta Hurricane." They all said as they began to spin rapidly. They formed a large spinning ring that went around all of Slade's monsters and then exploded. When the smoke cleared the only monsters left on the field were the three Ojamas.
"What happened? Their all gone." Slade asked, not understanding. "Thanks to a little thing called brotherly love. Here's how it works Slade. When the Ojama brothers are on the field Delta Hurricane can destroy all your monsters." Chazz explained. "Look whose weak now. Time to take him out." The Ojama brothers said. "And now this, Thunder crash." His spell appeared on the field. "Guys, what's Thunder crash do?" Yellow asked his brothers. "Don't ask me. I left my reading monocle in the well." Green said. "Seems that Chazz deals three hundred points of damage for each monster on his field that he decides to destroy." Black explained as he read the spell. "Did he say destroy?" Green and Yellow asked together. "No boss say it aint so." The Ojama brothers all said together. "Sorry guys, have to. See ya around." Chazz said as his three monsters disappeared from his field. "Go Thunder crash." Chazz said as a large yellow lighting bolt shot from the spell card and struck Slade.

"That doesn't mean a thing. Got that?" Slade said arrogantly. "Your deck is still full of weaklings, and mine's still full of rare monsters just raring to tear you apart." "I don't think so. Thanks to all the cards in my graveyard Slade." Chazz said as he looked at one of the cards in his hand. 'Thanks Dai.' "Cause I play Chaos Necromancer." Chazz's new monster appeared on the field. "Sure he starts weak, but he gains three hundred attack points for each monster that's in my graveyard. So with eleven monsters in my grave his attack points are thirty-three hundred. How's that for weak?" Chazz explained as suddenly the spirits of his monsters appeared above Chaos Necromancer and made it stronger {3300AP}. "No hold on." Slade pleaded, but to no avail. "Now Chaos Necromancer, attack with Arrow of Bone." Chazz commanded. All of his monsters spirits turned to green energy that condensed into the bone arrow that Necromancer fired and struck Slade directly in the chest. "Wait, no fair." Jagger tried to argue. "You go bye-bye." Chazz said.

"Chazz did it." Syrus cheered. Dai just nodded. "I knew he could do it." The rest of the student body began cheering for Chazz. "Wait. You know the cheer. CHAZZ! IT! UP!" He began, and the rest of the students continued his cheer for him.
"Imbecile." Jagger berated his older brother. "How could you lose this?" "Relax Jagger, it's only one duel." Slade said. "One duel? Just listen to them. This 'one duel' has turned Chazz into a hero, and a major headache for us." Jagger said as the two of them left.
Author's note: Welcome back to another chapter of Hello Duel Academy. I know I haven't posted on this story in forever, just haven't had any inspiration for this story. Although I have exciting news for anyone still reading, I have decided that once I get to season 2, After losing to Aster Phoenix Dai's new decks will become Synchro decks. I have most of my Synchro monsters picked out already, but if anyone does have any suggestions I will definitely take them under advisement. Also I need help coming up with a special ability for Dai's new Ace monster. It is a Synchro monster called Dar Master Magician. So far the only thing I have for this monster so far is that it is level 10, has 2800 AP and 2200 DP. I would like an ability that is not too OP. Hope you all enjoy this chapter, and also check out another story of mine An Alchemist on the Team.
