AN: *carefully peeks out from my spot under the blanket* Oh guys, I can't even begin to say how sorry I am for the looooooooooooong delay. I have never had a break of more than four weeks before. But we all know that real life can get in the way and I simply had no time to write. The holidays are the worst time of the year at my job and after work I was mostly too exhausted and then finally sick.
It doesn't look like it's getting better any time soon.
Shorter updated could come quicker, it's up to you.
Okay, enough with my rambles and on with the first part of this.
The next morning came way too soon for Arizona's liking, but the rays of sunlight streaming through the blinds of the couple's bedroom had been tickling her face to wake her from her beautiful sleep for a while already and finally, she gave in and opened her eyes. Pools of blue met the sight of the back of her very much naked wife and the blonde couldn't help the smile spreading over her face. She could still feel the soreness in all the right places from last night's activities. Despite better knowledge to get some rest or to at least have a proper meal before jumping each other's bones, they had exactly done that. Lips had crashed against lips the second the apartment door had fallen close and the next thing she could remember, was her own body, stark naked and writhing under the brunette's touch and ministrations. And she remembered kisses. Lots of kissing and holding and just being with each other, the hours spent as interns at the hectic hospital slipping further and further away from their minds.
But now all she could do was bask in the last remnantsof the afterglow, inhale the scent of her wife and snuggle closer to the warm body. Callie's breath remained low and even, a telltale sign for Arizona that her lover was still fast asleep. A sleep they both had needed so much after being on their feet for almost thirty-five hours straight – not counting the few short naps in the on-call rooms – and even more so after the little marathon in bed. But even though the blonde knew she should take advantage of the extra free time and sleep some more before the next sixteen hour shift, which would start this evening, she felt wide awake. And she also knew she should grant her wife – who had literally been a surgeon yesterday – some more sleep. More than just five or ten minutes, yet she couldn't stop her hand from moving up and caressing the softest skin she had ever touched. Her fingers danced slowly up the Latina's spine as blue eyes kept tabs on the goosebumps erupting all over her back up to her neck.
The little devil inside told her to just wake the brunette and have her wicked way with her, but Arizona knew better. Callie could be grumpy when being woken up too early and too rudely. A nice wake-up call though, that was always appreciated and so the blonde leaned closer and connected her lips with the warm caramel-toned skin. She only kissed a couple of inches up and down the sides of her wife's upper body before her tongue found it's way through the butterfly kisses, savoring the sweet taste, a mixture of pure Calliope and her body lotion, something Arizona had always loved.
When the body next to her began to stir and move, beautiful pink lips curled into a smirk as the blonde continued to tease her wife's naked torso. Kiss after kiss was lovingly placed onto every part of skin she could reach, soft licks followed as fingertips kept patting along the vertebra, eliciting a quiet moan from her lover. "Calliope", Arizona whispered when she had reached her wife's shoulder, but it was answered with a not so pleasant groan from the Latina. "Oh Calliope", the blonde husked again, almost singing every single syllable.
"Stop", the Latina whined into her pillow, squinting her eyes shut as if she was trying to block out everything, light, sounds and her wife. She felt the slightly cool air running across her naked back but if she would just ignore it, she could go back to sleep and finish the dream she had just been ripped out of.
"Stop what?", Arizona asked, the laughter pretty evident in her voice as the words left her mouth. No matter what it was though, she didn't want to stop – she wanted her wife to wake up and start the day with a nice round or two of rolling in the sheets or taking a shower together. Then they could just go from there.
Trying to pull the blanket further up her body to prevent the blonde from touching her, Callie groaned again. "Stop waking me", she grumbled and turned her face away from her lover. Everything inside her screamed for more rest, or even better, more sleep. But somehow she thought that that was not going to happen anymore.
"But you slept all night", Arizona pouted, shifted and moved around under the blanket until she slowly lowered herself onto the Latina's back. As skin came in contact with skin, she felt the tingles spreading through her whole body, starting in her toes and ending in her fingertips. God, that feeling was never ever going to get old and boring. "You could be nice and stay awake for me. Actually, you should stay awake now, because I am awake now."
Callie snorted at the ridiculousness of the words that came bubbling out of her wife's mouth, words that made the blonde sound more like Sarita – a six year old – than a grown up woman. Cracking first one eye open and then the other, soulful brown orbs tried to get a glimpse of the person lying on top her. "That's not a valid reason, you know that, right?", she asked. Truth was, she felt more awake now than before, the full body against body contact wakening her senses and libido.
Biting her bottom lip, Arizona grinned down at Callie and brought her face closer to her lover's ear before she whispered, "I think it's the only reason that should be considered as being valid." Her sentence was combined with a light roll of her hips, making her center grind even more into the brunette's flesh. Of course she didn't miss the moan that escaped full lips and it only made the smile on her lips grow wider. Right now she had her wife where she wanted her and knowing that Callie did go from being sleepy and grumpy to horny in just a couple of minutes because of her, was a really good feeling.
"Arizona", the Latina growled, honestly not amused about the fact that her body had betrayed her. She had planned on going back to sleep, on sleeping in late, on having a lazy morning. But all that seemed to be ruined now because the blonde couldn't keep her hands to herself. "You know, one would think you'd be satisfied after last night."
"Mhmm", the blonde agreed and rolled her hips once again. "I was. But you're my wife. May super hot Ortho surgeon wife who flied almost solo in the OR yesterday and that was hot. You're my wife, strong Latina genes, a big heart and a body to die for. You're you and I'll never get enough of you", she rambled on and then went back to kissing her lover's neck. "Plus, you didn't manage to keep your hands to yourself last night either. If I remember correctly, you were the one who undressed and pushed me towards the bedroom before I could tell you that Mark is in Seattle." She had wanted to tell Callie the news, but she had also wanted to spend at least a few minutes cuddling or playing with Magic and neither of it had a chance to happen before the brunette left her speechless for the first time. Feeling the body under hers shudder at the next grind of her pelvis, Arizona hopped off the warm body, turned Callie around and pressed their fronts together.
Their bodies molded together as one, legs intertwined and hands started roaming within seconds. Before it could get any more heated though, the blaring sound of Callie's cell phone filled the air, making Arizona emit a growl of disapproval, even more so when the Latina turned away from her.
"You're not going to answer that, are you?", she asked hopefully and moved with her wife into a sitting position, although she knew the answer. Her wife always answered her calls when she was available, so it was not surprising that only a moment later, the brunette was out of the bed and looking through her discarded clothes for her mobile phone. "Of course...", she groaned and let herself fall back into the pillows, demonstratively crossing her arms over her chest to show her displeasure.
Sending her wife an apologetic smile, Callie checked the caller ID only to furrow her brows in confusion. She had expected it to be a call from Teddy whining about how horrible it is without any of them close to her, or saying that she missed Addison. But she didn't know that number and usually, she had every number saved in her contacts.
"What's wrong?", Arizona wanted to know when Callie didn't answer the call straight away. "Please don't tell me the hospital is allowed to call our cell phones. I thought that's what pagers were invented for."
"It's not the hospital", the brunette told her wife and finally used her thumb to slide over the screen of her smart phone to answer the call, "Hello, this is Callie Torres."
"Calliope", the female voice at the other end of the line said with a smile. "It's me, Ms. Miller. When I got to the hospital an hour ago to check on my kids, a nurse told me that you said I should call you and then she gave me this number. I didn't wake you, did I? Normal people are awake at 10.30am but I didn't know when your shift ended. All the nurse told me that you wouldn't be here until later today."
"Good morning, Ms. Miller", the brunette answered with a smile on her lips. The woman had always had a specialplace in her heart and although she hadn't seen her in years, the energy and will to help all these orphans to find a new family was still the same as it was all those years ago. "You didn't wake me, don't worry."
"Miss Miller?", Arizona wondered but was shushed right then and there as Callie held up her hand, leaving her even more wondering what was going on. She didn't know that Callie asked the nurses to give Ms. Miller her number and tell her to give her a call. After all, they forgot a lot last night.
"Why was I told to call you?"
Callie pondered whether to give her decision away over the phone or not, but eventually, she decided against it. "Look, I have something I want to tell you but I don't want to do that over the phone. Could we meet later today? Say in two-ish... hours?", she asked. The Latina could be ready in an hour, and so could Arizona, but by the look on the blonde's face, she would have to make it up to her with an extended hot shower that only included cleaning by the end of it. "Or later, whatever your agenda says."
"Two hours is fine", the woman answered. "But what is so important that you have to tell me in person?"
The smile forming on her lips was inevitable, but the brunette tried to remain cool. She wanted to see the woman's face when telling her the news. "Do you still know the address of my old family home? The house I inherited from my parents?"
"Yes of course, but-"
"Great, can you meet me and Arizona there?", Callie asked, not letting the other woman finish her question. She didn't like leaving people in the dark. She didn't like being left in the dark and she always thought that everybody would feel just as left out as she did.
"Calliope, what are you up to?"
"Nothing. See you in two hours?"
"Yes", Ms. Miller sighed and then they ended the call.
Turning around to her wife, narrowed blue eyes stared holes into her skull. "What?", she asked and made her way over to the bed.
"You were kinda rude", the blonde stated.
"Maybe... maybe not. She'll understand. So...", she trailed off, her finger gliding over the naked skin of Arizona's leg that wasn't covered with any blanket. "I gave us two hours... wanna make good use of it in the shower?" There was no verbal answer, but without wasting any more time, Arizona shot out of their bed and made a beeline into the ensuit bathroom, making Callie laugh out loud.
"Hey, you coming or what?", the blonde asked as she stuck her head out when she noticed her wife was not hot on her heels. "I could start without you, you know?"
Laughing again, Callie followed her wife into the bathroom to get dirty and then get ready.
A-C-T
As the couple turned the last corner to the road of Callie's old family home, Arizona moved her left hand from its resting spot in her lap over to cover her wife's that was clasping tightly around the steering wheel. She had offered to drive, insisted on driving actually, but the brunette had been too stubborn, telling her that she could drive just as good as Arizona. It wasn't about the Latina's driving skills. Honestly , if it came to that, Callie would win the title of being the better driver any day, simply because the blonde loved exceeding the speed limit way too much. But again, it wasn't about the driving skills. "Are you sure you want to give away your house?"
"Yes", Callie answered immediately. She had made up her mind on that, long ago, if she was being honest with herself. There was no want to use the house as a place to live. Not now, not ever. It held memories she didn't want to relive every day. Sure, it had gotten better and she could walk through the halls and rooms without freezing on the spot or flinching. But the memories of her family would always be there and she wasn't anxious to be haunted by them. "It's for a good cause. I can help those kids and Miss Miller by giving thema new home"
"I know," the blonde answered. "We talked about it and I said it's your decision and that I am in, but I just want to be sure you're doing the right thing. You can't take it back in a few years." Not that Callie would ever want to take back something she gave away willingly, but something inside Arizona screamed at her for more reassurance.
Stopping the car and turning her head to the right, the brunette looked at her lover's face, a face that was was full of concern. "I know you mean well, but I am sure. This is not my home. This is just a house I inherited from my deceased family, and no matter how many years will go by, I will never want to call it my home." Her gaze flickered from cerulean shining blue eyes down to soft pink lips. There was something about Arizona's lips that always made the Latina want to kiss her wife, she couldn't even say what it was, so she leaned in and captured the soft flesh in a lingering kiss. "Thanks for asking again, though", she said as she pulled away and started the engine again.
Three minutes later the car pulled up into the long drive way of the Torres estate and they spotted Miss Miller waiting for them outside of a deep green car. "Do you think she'll take it?", Arizona asked.
Callie parked the car next to Miss Millers and unbuckled her seat belt. "I have no idea." And she honestly had no clue what to do if the woman she owed so much would reject her help. Without Miss Miller's ambition, she wouldn't have had the childhood she had. It was easy to find just any family for an orphan, but the woman had made sure to find the Menkens, the perfect family for Callie. Not only because they lived close to the Robbins, but also because they let her grieve and get used to them without pushing her to call them Mom and Dad. They did everything possible to give her the best education, the best home, all the love she deserved. And now it was in Callie's hands to give something back.
Stepping out into the warm sunlight, the Latina walked around the car to greet the woman with a loving hug. "It's good to see you again, outside of my work place, I mean", she smiled and snaked her arm around her lover's waist when the blonde stood next to her. "I know, I've already told you, but I would like to officially introduce you to my wife, Arizona Torres." The already beaming smile became even more radiant as the full name rolled from her lips.
"It's good to see you too", Miss Miller replied and eyed the two young women standing before her, hands laced together and the same expression of love visible on both faces. "It's even better to see you two together. I had hoped you would stay friends."
Arizona nodded dreamily. "We were best friends until the day we also became lovers."
"I see", the woman smiled. "So, will you tell me why we're here? The last time is so many years ago and, don't get me wrong, but I can still see the little girl, crying and clinging on to me cause she was so scared."
"I remember that too", Callie said and started walking up the stairs towards the front door. It was a bad memory. She heard footsteps following hers as she said, "I think I was seriously torn between wanting to run away or curl myself into a ball on my bed and stay there forever. But that is all in the past now. I had a great childhood, I had everything I could have wished for and I want to thank you for that." Opening the door and stepping in, she waited for the other two to walk in too.
"Calliope, you don't have to thank me for anything. I did my job, as best as I could. Do you remember how many potential parents you met before I introduced you to the Menkens? It wasn't easy, you had just lost your family and most of the men and women seemed to scare you or wanted to push you too fast. I was so happy that it all had worked out in the end", Miss Miller explained, recalling how much the case had gotten to her.
Smiling, Callie took a few more steps into the house. It looked still the same as it did the day she had seen it for the first time after years, everything was covered with sheets which were more than dusty by now. She had just turned eighteen then, inherited more than just a lot for a teenager and had had no clue what to do with all of it. The money had come in handy, though, with college and med school and moving out. The house in Miami was nice, a good place to get away from the stress, like a little private paradise just for the two of them. Plus, it held the memories of their wedding day and she could probably never bring herself to give that house away. This house here, was a whole different story. "I know it is your job. But you do it with so much care. You didn't have to go all the way and find all those families. Not just my parents, but the parents for all the former orphans you've helped."
"I don't understand why we couldn't have talked about this at the hospital or over lunch", Miss Miller said. She had no idea why they were here. It didn't take much to figure out that Callie and Arizona didn't use this place as their home, which didn't surprise her at all. It was too big for two people and too far away from the hospital, to point out only two things.
"Because-", the Latina started and looked at her wife, "I, no, we want to give this house to you, to use it as the new orphanage. There comes a first donation of fifty thousand dollars with it so you can buy new furniture, clothes, toys and games for the orphans. And from now on, there will be a yearly donation of ten thousand bucks for the orphanage." Once again, her eyes found blue ones that had widened in surprise. They had talked about the money donation and agreed on fifty thousand. There was still so much money left on their now joined account, that fifty thousand more or less wouldn't make a difference now. The yearly donation though, Callie had just come up with it and now she hoped that her wife would be okay with it.
"Please say that again", the woman answered, perplex and speechless after the words she had heard – or misheard, she wasn't quite sure about it.
"This house is the new orphanage you need for the kids. It has tons of bedrooms upstairs and downstairs. All in all, it has four bathrooms, a large kitchen and living room. There's a basement we could turn into a playroom for the bigger kids and I think the pool needs a thorough cleaning but that can be arranged too and-"
"I can't take it. We can't afford this", Miss Miller said and shook her head after the first waves of enthusiasm had dried off. "This house will cost too much, Calliope. We would be lucky if we could afford the rent and then nothing else would be covered."
Brown eyes blinked in confusion. She hadn't said a word about rent, she hadn't even thought about it. "You don't have to pay rent." Letting her hand glide through the air as she spun around on her heels, she repeated, "It's yours. For free. This is me, us, saying thank you. And before you even try to ask; yes, I thought this through, I never want to live here and I really am sure about giving it to you."
The smile tugging at the corner of the woman's lips became more and more apparent. This house could solve the biggest problem. "You're really really sure?", she asked, tears had already started to fill her eyes.
"Yes. More than sure", Arizona assured. "All we need to do is sign the paper and have a notary sign them as well and then this mansion is yours. It could take a few days to get it all cleaned up and have some furniture delivered, but it's just a matter of time now."
Not knowing what to say anymore, baffled by so much bounteousness, Miss Miller took a deep breath and asked, "Can I hug you?"
Callie simply nodded and opened her arms, welcoming the embrace. There were no words needed at the moment. She was thankful that Miss Miller had accepted their gift. It could have been a lot harder to persuade her, and she knew that. When they parted and Miss Miller started to walk around a little – after all it had been around twenty years since the last time she had been here – the Latina felt a hand brush down her right arm until it linked with her own hand.
"Every time I think I can't love you more than I already do, you go and do something that's so typically you, so quintessential for your big heart, and then I find myself falling more and more in love with you. Helplessly and deeper every time", the blonde whispered in her wife's ear.
Turning to face the blonde, Callie whispered back, "So, you're not mad?"
Shaking her head in response, blue orbs glanced over to Miss Miller before she nuzzled her nose softly against the brunette's cheek, followed by a tender kiss against smooth skin. "A little heads-up would have been nice but I already told you that I am in."
"I love you", the Latina breathed out and squeezed her wife's hand.
"I love you too. So much."
AN2 I really hope you liked it. I was kinda trying to get back into whatever flow was once there (or not).
