Tris POV:

"It's about time you showed up," I say jokingly, as I wrap Tobias in a hug that seems to last forever.

"You're late," I say.

"You said to come at six. I'm three minutes early."

"I'd say about two and a half years too late," I respond. "My dad has a meeting so it'll just be us, Will, Christina, Caleb, and Lily."

"Clever," he says, kissing me lightly. Then he walks past the foyer and into the kitchen, sniffing the air. "What's for dinner?"

"Shrimp parm," I answer. "And you'd better like it."

Tobias chuckles slightly as he sticks his finger into the pan and licks it.

"Careful; it's hot," I say. "And how old are you really?"

He shakes his head jokingly as Christina tromps down the stairs and sits down at the table with Lily in her arms. Tobias picks Lily up and puts her over his shoulders.

"I just changed her," Christina says, without looking up from her magazine. Then she sees Tobias and smiles sadly. "I'm sure Will told you."

He nods and puts Lily down. She runs over to the rug in the living room and starts to roll around like a dog on it. "Christina," Tobias reassures. "Even if you had told me, I was going to leave." Then he looks to me. "Look, let's talk about this later, shall we?"

I look at Christina and she shakes her head. "We've waiting nearly three years. It's now or never. And I'm not going to just drop it."

"Alright," Tobias says, sitting down. "Look, Tris. I never meant to hurt you, but my plans were to go to Loyola. And when they didn't accept me because of my grades, I turned to Boston. I meant to tell you, but I just...never did. When you told me you were pregnant, Marcus said Mister Prior told him what had happened and he kicked me out." Tobias squeezes my hand and I grip it back tightly.

"Did he beat you?" I mouth.

He nods, and I crush him in a hug. "I'm so sorry."

"I'm sorry as well," Tobias says. "I should have told you. I never really left on purpose. It was just that Boston was the only place that accepted me-because of my athletic ability."

"I should have listened," I whisper. "Instead of shut you out."

He cradles my cheek in his hand. "It's not your fault. I wouldn't have listened to me either."

I smile slightly as Tobias looks to Christina. "I should have told you as well. Whatever you were going to say, you couldn't have changed what happened."

Christina hugs us both. "Sorry for not trusting you, Four. And you, Tris, I should have...supported you more."

Later that night, after everyone else has left and Caleb has gone up to his room to study as he watches Lily, Tobias helps me with the dishes.

"I thought about what you said," I say. "And I know Lily really needs a father figure in her life."

"Oh?" Tobias says, as he loads ceramic plates into the dishwasher.

"And I think it's time Lily and I move in with you."

"I need to get another job," I say.

Tobias shakes his head. "I have access to the account that my mother left for me when she ran away. Marcus has been stealing from it for years but I transferred it from his bank to my credit union and he has no idea."

"How much is in it?"

Tobias shrugs. "A few hundred. It keeps growing."

"Oh?" I say. "What job do you have?"

Tobias shrugs. "I teach a self defense class at the local boxing studio. In fact, maybe you could come to a class."

"I might," I say. "So are you going to show me your place?"

"You've seen it," Tobias says.

"Not all of it," I retort.

Tobias chuckles and opens the door to his apartment. "Sorry it's so small," he says.

I shake my head and slip off my grey Converse. "Oh my gosh," I say. "This is your bachelor pad?"

Tobias nods as he plays with Lily.

"One, two, three bedrooms. Three rooms?" I ask.

"Is that a problem? I wasn't sure what all I would need the place for and it was a great deal."

"These rooms are huge," I comment. "Why did you say the place was so small?"

Tobias shrugs.

"I'm not like Christina," I say. "I don't need a separate room for my shoes. Lily and I will fit in here easily."

"So we can start moving boxes in?"

"Yeah," I say. "I just need to finish packing."

I pick up the last box and carefully step down the first two steps.

"What are you doing?" my father asks from the bottom of the stairs. "Are you giving all that stuff away Beatrice?"

I shake my head. "I'm moving in with Tobias. You knew that."

"Yes, but I never approved it."

"Why do you need to approve it?" I ask, stepping down another stair. I'm almost halfway now. "I'm eighteen."

"How many times do I need to remind you, Beatrice?" my father asks. "Until you act eighteen, I will not treat you like you are eighteen."

I travel down the rest of the steps and set the box, which is full of Lily's books, down and look at my father. "I'm sick of this. Ever since Lily was born, I've gotten my life together. I graduated high school with a 3.6 GPA. I got a job."

"At a tattoo parlor."

"Tori's a nice person. She's not the hooligan you think she is." I sigh and sit down on the edge of the couch. "You know what? I've decided I don't care anymore. Did you know that Mister Eaton kicked Tobias out? He didn't run away."

"He did that," my father says. "because Tobias was a bad role model on the community. He was going to leave for Boston anyways."

"He didn't need to leave early. I needed him that first month. My life was hell-we both know that."

"He wasn't there for you when you needed him."

"Exactly!" I say, sitting up. "You said it yourself. Goodbye." I stand up and take the last box in my arms and slam the door with my foot.

"Let me help you with that," a voice says.

I smile. "Tobias."

He kisses my cheek in greeting. "Tris. You ready?"

I nod. "My God, am I ready to get out of that house."

Tobias laughs. "Father troubles?"

"Are they ever. Do you have Lily strapped in her car seat."

"The monster is leashed," Tobias jokes.

"You're one happy camper today," I comment.

Tobias smiles and puts the box in the back seat. "Why wouldn't I be? You're finally moving in with me. I've waited for this day for two years." He closes the door and walks around the car into the driver's seat. I slid into shotgun as Tobias turns on the car.

Tobias kisses my cheek lightly and wraps his arms around me. I giggle and push him away playfully. "Not when I'm cooking."

He groans and massages my shoulders. "Have I told you how happy I was when you decided to move in?"

"Many times," I remind him. "Have I told you how I like to cook without distractions?"

I can feel him rolling his eyes. "Are you telling me you don't like this?" he asks, as he lines my neck with kisses.

"Not necessarily," I say, taking my eyes off the potatoes for a second to face Tobias and kiss him just as intensely.

And at this moment, I realize that no matter what happens to me, my life is perfect.
