Chapter 14: Lights and Death (Part A)

Godric was going to personally end Elliot Lovensen's life. How very Godric, it seemed that Elliot and him were good friends. And Godric, being Godric often played with his prey before ending their lives.

How very sadistic, and yet, it was the essence of his being. It was not enough for Godric to murder someone, he had to ensure that the person felt the full impact of an emotional betrayal just before finishing them off. Ultimate betrayal. And in this case, his newest victim was going to be Elliot.

Honestly, Elliot seemed like a really nice chap. Surprisingly unpretentious and genuine for someone of his status. I liked him, or rather, I really do have good vibes about him.

He didn't deserve this. No one did.

I sighed, knowing full well that I have already made up my mind even back at Godric's residences - I was going to save Elliot's life.

No matter the cost.

I could feel someone waving his hands in front of me. I blinked and realised that I had remained frozen in that same spot for quite a while, lost in my very own thoughts.

The blur figure came into focus – and it was Elliot. He looked jovial, having wrapped up his speech to a grand applause.

I could feel other guests casting furtive glances in our direction from time to time. However, Elliot seemed completely oblivious to that.

"More whites?" He gestured to the table, and I shook my head stiffly.

"No… wait – yea, I'll need more of that." I said and grabbed the wine by the bottle and started chugging it furiously.

Elliot pursed his lips and I could sense his disapproval from miles away, "I hate to say, but the dress, my dear, the dress…" He clicked his tongue and I glanced at him before wiping my mouth with the back of my hand while explaining, "What I'll do later requires a great deal of courage, and I know myself, I need this." I said and continued chugging.

"I see, shall I cheer you up a little, Poppy?" Elliot said before coming closer towards me. He removed the bottle gently away from my hands. I took an instinctive step backwards and he held my arm before leaning closer towards the nape of my neck. Smiling at my discomfort, he tugged at something at the back of my dress.

My breath was abated and I raised my brow at Elliot. Nothing? Nothing happened.

I looked at Elliot and he shrugged lightly just as the lights came off and everything was engulfed in total darkness. There were surprised murmurs indicating the guests' general reactions.

My heart sank and I bent over in a crouch position. Were they planning the attack now?

Where's Elliot? I struggled to locate him in the dark but he couldn't be very far from me.

"Elliot?" I called uncertainly, and almost immediately, I could feel Elliot's presence beside me. "Relax, Poppy. You're quite a piece of work. Phobia of the dark?" He wondered loudly and bent down to locate my hands. Grasping them, he tugged me up slowly.

"Look at your dress," he said slowly and I glanced at my dress. It glowed faintly in a light magical blue shade, at once making it ethereal and otherworldly. I realised that I could see him faintly in the dark and his excitement and pride was unmistakable. I didn't realised that he was still holding onto my hands until he started tugging me. I noticed that there was a trail of miniscule blue fairy lights on the ground and they glowed faintly as we made our way down the trail of lights.

"I guess you didn't know this dress was a part of the feature for today?" Elliot uttered as he led me down the path.

"Godric certainly did not send me this memo," I said sounding somewhat more edgy than I expected and Elliot patted my hand, "He must fancy you quite a bit. It was a lovely intention, and I hate to say this, but I think you're worth it."

I paused, wanting to get a better look at Elliot's expression but we were already at the front and Elliot patted me once more before the lights came up.

He smiled expectantly at the person waiting at front of all this…..

The orchestrator of this massively elaborated plan, Godric –

I should have known.
