Chapter Fourteen: Kurai: Part One

The room was a big, open room. It was completely dark except for torches that held violet fire that went the whole way around the rectangle room. There were two rows of pillars carved out of the mountain that started at the entrance and went all the way down the room on either side of a large throne. On the throne sat a certain person.

"Lydia, is that you?" Blair asked. Even from the distance, Lydia was noticeably different. She sat on her throne leaning to her left side on her elbow. Her other arm was laid across her lap. The throne she was sitting on was completely black and tall with designs of swirls engraved into it.

Lydia's long, thick, black hair was out of its usual loose braid and hung partly in front of her and partly behind her. Also, Lydia's skin had changed; it wasn't pale like a porcelain doll but pale like someone who was so sick they could drop dead at any moment; it was pallor. Her once vibrant purple eyes turned so dark, they were nearly black. Even Lydia's lips had changed from ruby red to a pale sickly pink.

The attire of Lydia had somehow also been changed too. The top of the outfit was long sleeved and had a not super low v-neck. Like the ninja gi, it was tight and easy to move in. The top went to a bit above Lydia's hip where is flared out into dress type thing. Starting in the centre of her hip, the skirt split open, not like a slit, but actually spread apart showing most of Lydia's lower body. The edges of this was lined in small dark purple. gems that also went around her hip where the skirt like bottom started. Under this (there had to be something underneath or she may as well have worn nothing) there were tight black pants that went over her feet and also were shoes at the end; they were also black and had about a three to four inch heel on them. The only thing not black on Lydia were her hands, neck, and face.

"What, don't tell me you don't recognize your own sister, Blair," Lydia didn't even sound like herself; she no longer sounded quiet and overshadowed. She talked sharper and louder and didn't sound all together the same way.

Blair was slowly walking into the room and said, "You don't look like my sister."

"I am surprised you even stopped to see what I looked like before, but now I've got your attention. Don't I?"

"What is that supposed to mean?" Blair said lowering her eyebrows slightly.

"You were always so wrapped up in yourself that you never bothered to acknowledge me. It was always you who were the favorite. You. You. You," said Lydia as she gracefully got up from her throne. She proceeded to walk a few steps towards her twin and, as she did, the throne started to blow away from the left side until it was gone. It broke into something like black sand and blew away into thin air, never to be seen again.

"What? You know that neither of us were favored more than the other," Blair said as she started to get angry.

The two were now standing only feet away. "Do you call being ignored and practically hated by my parents while you got all of the praise and attention no matter what you did equal?" Lydia was yelling and looking down a little (on account of the heels) right in Blair's face, furious. Both girls had a bit of a temper.

Without even thinking, Blair took a step back and shot a ball of light into Lydia's stomach. She knew it wouldn't do any harm but it did take Lydia by surprise, sending her back a few feet onto the ground. Lydia stood up, fists clenched tight, and said, "How dare you hit me. How dare you hit me!" This greatly startled Blair because it wasn't in her sister voice at all; it sounded totally wicked and evil and deeper than usual. Blair slowly began to take steps backwards.

Orbs of darkness surrounding each hand, Lydia went running towards Blair and not wanting just to knock her a few feet backwards. This took a minute to register in Blair's mind but, one it did, she dodged the attack in the knick of time. Lydia then sent a blast of her darkness towards her sister that Blair simple dodged.

"You aren't my sister," Blair continued, "my sister would never hurt me no matter how angry she was."

"Oh, such a clever girl. You finally figured it out," now "Lydia" sounded nothing like herself but like that small little voice.

Both girls still had orbs of light and darkness respectively surrounding their fists. "You're, you're Kurai!" Blair said.

Kurai took Lydia's knives that were hidden under the skirt like portion of its outfit and skillfully threw them at Blair. Luckily, Blair was able to dodge each one that came towards her. Kurai took advantage of the fact that Blair would not hurt him and did his disappearing trick by poofing away.

"Kurai! Where did you go," Blair looked around her tentatively and continued, "I didn't know you could do that. Show yourself!"

Kurai reappeared behind Blair and knocked her to the ground putting a hand on Blair's shoulders so she couldn't get up. With the other hand he formed the darkness around it and aimed it straight for Blair.

As a last resort, Blair said, "Lydia, I know you are still there. Don't do this; this isn't you. Please." The final 'please' at the end must have found its way to Lydia because, just as Kurai was about to unleash the darkness on Blair, Lydia controlled herself again and re-aimed the darkness towards the ceiling. She still had Blair pinned to the ground but Blair knew her sister was back for the moment because the purple colour returned into her eyes. "Lydia..."

The blast had been too much for the ceiling and it came crumbling down with the other ninja on top. They all gave a groan but as soon as they saw Lydia holding Blair down, they came running toward the girls. Neither Blair nor Lydia moved because Lydia was still coming back to her senses and Blair, well Blair was still stuck to the floor. The boys were surprised that Lydia did not make an effort to stop them from coming closer but they didn't question it. Cole pulled Lydia from Blair who was then helped up by Lloyd. Lydia's arms were held tight by Cole who dared not to let her go.

"Umm, guys," Kai said.

"Not now, Kai," said Lloyd.

"No, we have a problem," Kai, mask in hand, came walking towards the others who were now by Lydia and Blair.

"What's the matter?" Cole asked.

Kai dumped the shattered remains of the gem into his hands and then poured it into Lloyd's. You could hear Blair faintly say "Oh, no". Kai was angry that he has broken the gem.

"This is all your fault," Kai nearly yelled. "The gem is broken because of you and your selfishness!"

Lydia didn't even seem to be affected by Kai's yelling as she still stood emotionless and locked in Cole's tight grip. She was still not fully back from Kurai's invasion.

"Kai! Knock it off," Blair continued, "Cole, it's okay, you can let her go."

"But.."

"She's alright for now, trust me."

Cole released his grip on Lydia and stood by Blair. Kai, with one last glare at Lydia, joined Cole and Blair too. The other ninja stood near them as well so that the six of them were standing together as a team.

Lydia still stood emotionless in the spot she was left; she could almost pass as a statue. Her mind was very foggy and her vision was all blurred together. Lydia couldn't think very straight but her vision soon began to come back and the very first thing she saw was her former team. She saw her friends and, although she didn't know them that long, they were like brothers to her; they had cared for her and welcomed her into their team without too much hesitation. Then, Lydia saw her sister, her twin, standing with the group of boys. She was in their protection and they were in Blair's. For a moment, Lydia wanted to cry and ask for forgiveness. The only thing she wanted in the world was to be embraced by the six in front of her; Lydia wanted their love and protection like Blair had.

Lydia tried to move to run towards them but she couldn't for something was holding her back. That something was her ego, her pride, her honour, and that bit of Kurai in her holding her back. Just as she was about to give up, Lydia remembered her dream. She remembered how being the Queen meant nothing to her and when she saw her friends she could never reach them no matter how hard she would try. Lydia then remembered the strange little voice and everything it had said to her. Finally, she was able to snap back into herself and all she was able to say was "I'm sorry". She didn't have to take any steps forward and her sister came forward and embraced Lydia in a hug.

"It's alright, I know that wasn't you," Blair said as she now had her hands on Lydia's shoulders.

"Kurai will be back; I can't control him for long."

Zane came closer to the girls and said, "Yes, but what about the gem?"

"You don't really think I'm that ignorant, do you? That was just a fake one. I knew that you guys would try and take it so I hid the real one."

Lydia pulled out the real gem from the same area she got her knives from. It glowed bright in the dark room and brought the ninja comfort. Kai reached out to take it but Cole would not let him.

"I'll handle it this time around."

With a sight Kai mumbled, "Fine."

There was a bit of an awkward silence because no one really knew what to say. The male ninja were still not too trustworthy of Lydia and the girls just didn't know what to say.

"So..um..why did you make this throne room area down here?" Blair asked, breaking the silence.

"Well, it wasn't really my full decision but it was made to be hidden from you guys and it is darker down here with no windows."

"Why don't we all go back to the Bounty. My uncle and Nya are waiting there for us," Lloyd said.

"I can't go back. Kurai will destroy us all. You have to lock me up or something," Lydia said as she took a step back.

"Lock you up?" Jay said.

"There is no way we are going to lock you up forever, Lydia," said Blair.

"You must! Quick! I can't control him much longer!"

"No! Lydia, we are not locking you up!" Blair said, now yelling.

Lydia grew silent; she stood still with her head bowed and eyes shut, wincing. You could see her take in a large gasp of air and hold it in in an effort to control herself. The attempt was useless. Lydia slowly let out the air that had been entrapped in her lungs and opened her eyes. She legged her head and her eyes were no longer purple-they had become black again.

Blair could feel the anger boiling up inside of her. She ran forward towards Kurai fists tightly clenched and and orb of light surrounding them. She yelled, "What have you done to my sister?" Cole and Zane were just able to grab hold of her arms just before she reached Kurai. Blair was breathing heavily as she was face to face with what once was her twin. All hope of going against the prophecy had left Blair's mind.

Kurai stood straight up tall and gave an evil chuckle. "Your sister? Your sister is gone."

To Be Continued...

So, sorry about the long wait but I hope it was worth it. There will probably be only about two more chapters left in the story. Sniff. Sniff. Once I finish this story, I don't think I will start anything major durning the summer but probably some 1-2 chapter short stories.

Thank you everyone for reading and I hope you have enjoyed it as much as I have enjoyed writing it. Thank you ZaneLoverFan88 for reviewing. You definitely made me smile.

Question: Who is your least favourite character in Ninjago?

I just thought this was cool: Kai's name means fire, Jay means swift, Cole means people's victory, Nya means purpose, and Zane means gift from God. All of their names fit so perfectly except for Lloyd; his name means grey. Anyway, God Bless!
