Hi everyone, sorry I haven't updated in a llooooonnnnggg time. Life just got busy (School in such along with the holidays) and I had a writers block for a bit. Enjoy the chapter and don't forget to review!
In the distance, the gem kids could hear a whistle being blown. Greeny quickly pulled away from the group hug.
"Guys! The next challenge!" he panicked.
The three gems zoomed to the edges of festival, were a fenced in area, and dimly lit barn stood. Standing next to it was Coach Lemonite.
"This gems, is my favorite challenge of the festival,' he said with a devious smile, 'For this one, you may use your weapons to take down the great beast."
"Excuse me, but what exactly are we fighting?" Flourite questioned.
"Oh, nothing special, just my dear friend Sunshine," The coach explained.
The gem kids led out a sigh of relief, comforted by the knowledge that they might get through this round. Coach Lemonite was amused at the kids reaction, and pried open the gates.
Garnet walked forward with her chest puffed out and chin held high, while the boys trailed behind her.
"We'll go first," she boldly stated with her arms crossed.
Lemonite shrugged, and allowed the competitors enter the arena.
"Go get em' guys!" Amber yelled over the towering metal fence.
"Yeah Garnet, wear her down for the rest of us!" Flourite sarcastically encouraged.
From the barn, the gems could hear the scuffling of legs, and see a presence moving through the darkness.
Lemonite leaned over the gate and rung a small silver bell.
"Dinner time Sunshine!" he called.
Out of the shadows emerged a enormous Black Widow spider, her eight eyes focusing on the gem kids at the edge of the ring. Suddenly the gem trio got flash backs of fighting Slick, the invisible monster snake that almost killed them in training. Sunshine closed in on the gem kids hissing, everytime she took a step. To afraid to move, the gems were frozen in the same spot, to paniced to move. " C'mon guys! Run!" Amber yelled from the crowd.
The sound of Amber's voice broke Garnet from her trance, when she realized what was going to happen to her. Sunshine lunged at the kids, fangs out. Quickly, Garnet snatched the boys, and threw them out of the way. The long hairly legs of Sunshine collided with with Garnet's stomach. The poor gem child was sent hurdling to the edge of the area, spitting splinters from her mouth. Greeny clenched his fists, and snatched his weapon from his gem.
"Now you've done it," he hissed.
The green gem let out a ear splitting battle cry, and leaped at Sunshine's eight eyes. Every hit landed on the spider left it dazed for a couple seconds, leaving the boys enough time to check on Garnet. With feet the speed of the wind, Red charged over, and slid to his teamate.
"You alright?" Red asked.
Garnet weakly pushed him off, and nodded her head.
The two red gems looked onward to their green teamate, taking on Sunshine one in one. Without words, the gems glanced at each other, summoned their weapons, and charged into battle. Red dove under the belly of the great spider, and slashed at the soft flesh. A long hairly leg swung under and plowed into the vunrable gem, sending him sliding into the dirt. But his teammates were so concentrated on defeating their foe, they didn't realize he'd fallen down. Even worse, Sunshine send her sticky webs to pin Red onto the gate. Meanwhile, his brother was riding the spider as a horse. Everytime she attempted to buck him off, Garnet would land a couple of quick jabs to her legs. Hit after hit made the spider feel more confused and angry. Away from Garnet's reach, Sunshine raised her back leg and slapped the gem into corner with his brother. Before Garnet could react, she was send flying into the same fate. The spider charged after the gem teams, and pinned them to the fence with her leg. Around the arena the crowd began to feel uneasy. Never in any competition did anyone remember dying from the challenges. Sunshine roared in anger, glaring at the gem kids with her eight eyes, everyone of them glistening in anger towards to cometetiors. Sunshine opened her mouth. wrapping her teeth around Red's head. The poor gem wiggled in the spider's grasp, but it was of no use. Garnet yanked and pulled at her arm that was pinned under the spider's leg. In a desprate attempt to save her friend, Garnet raised her fists, and launched her gaunlets into the face of Sunshine. The crowd erupted in cheers, while the spider shook off the gauntlet quickly snatched the web that was used to tie his brother down. He looked over to his teamates.
"You two know what to do," he flatley stated.
Garnet nodded, and pulled Red to his feet. As Greeny dogded underneath the legs of Sunshine, Red and Garnet made sure she had multiple targets to attack. While she swung at Garnet, Red Alex was already tugging at her leg. Suddenly, Greeny rolled from the back of the spider, covered in cuts and scrapes.
"Get ready guys!" he called over Sunshine.
Quickly, Red and Garnet, switched sides, and rolled out of Sunshine's way. Green Alex threw his weight backwards, tightening the web that was wrapped around the spider's leg. He lunged onto the puntured stomach of the spider and tightened the webs. Sunshine hissed and growled at her captors, thrashing in the webs. Garnet and the Alex brothers stood in front of the captive Sunshine, bowing before the crowd. Gems and minerals alike stood to their feet, giving the team a standing ovation. Finally, their struggle was over.
