Previously on Love and Distrust
"Hello mother?"
"Natsu! What is the meaning of this? Your father and I are being evicted out of our homes! Why did you mortgage the property! If you needed money to pay a debt you could have just took out a loan from the bank instead of mortgaging my house! I don't care what you do but fix this Natsu!"
Mother hanged up without listening to what I had to say.
I looked up at the sullen sky when droplets of water start to shower the city with a light drizzle that evolved to a pouring rain.
Is this my punishment? Is this how I will atone?
Chapter 14~ Never-Ending Downward Spiral
The stale color of the pale grey skies clearly depicts the gloom I feel inside. With no family, no place to call home, I wander the lonely streets of Magnolia and finally feel the true meaning of loneliness. In times of distress, there is only one last person whom I can turn to for help.
"Knock"
"Mr. Dragneel, you've come at last."
I look up to the tall stature of Mr. Dreyar, his spiky blond hair, perfectly groomed in neat perfection. His million-dollar suit is in contrast to my dirty and tattered clothes that are now in rags.
"Mr. Dreyar, I have no business with you but I would like to have a word with your wife if I may."
"Knock" My knocks get more impatient by the second and before I know it, I blow my fuse and start yelling, my voice stained with exasperation and desperation.
"Lisanna! I know you're behind all of this! Open the door!"
"Yes Natsu?"
"What did you do to my house and my money!?"
"What money Natsu? There is no money."
"What do you mean by that?"
"You lost the lawsuit remember?" Lisanna handed me a document.
I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
Lucy filed a lawsuit against me for alienation of affection.
My eyes could not believe what I was seeing. My house, my riches and my wealth are all privileges that I could no longer afford. Thankfully, it is said in the document that all of my riches would be bequeathed to its rightful owner, Lucy.
A wave of hope and relief rushed through me as the worries and hardships that were to come before me was washed away as if a miracle had just happened, or at least I thought one were to happen.
Heartfilia Residence
"Ding" The sound of the door bell resounds through my ears like music as I excitedly wait outside the gates of the manor that stood proudly before me.
A chauffeur dressed in formal garb politely greets me at the front door.
"How may I help you sir?"
"I'm currently looking for Ms. Lucy Heartfilia, she is actually my ex-wife and I have urgent matters to speak of with her so if you may, please escort me inside and out of this pouring rain."
"I'm sorry sir but Ms. Heartfilia is not expecting any visitors and has strictly forbid anyone from trespassing the property so I request your immediate departure before I am forced to call the guards to escort you out."
"What!? This is unbelievable, I'm her husband so I demand you let me in!"
Two men dressed in military uniform forcefully grab me in the forearm as I struggle to escape but what was about to happen was clearly inevitable.
Thrown out again, my hopes that were once high were completely shattered into a million pieces as if a knife has stabbed my heart. The pain in my heart wasn't physical, but an unknown pain of rejection and loneliness. I truly felt as if nobody wanted me to be around and that the world would be a better place without me.
Lucy's POV
'A divorce huh?'
The future that looms ahead was unclear for all of us.
"Ms. Heartfilia there seems to be important documents that need your immediate attention." The maid politely bows to me as she notifies that something has arrived for me.
Bewildered, I stare at the large red letters stamped onto the envelope that reads: URGENT and wonder what may be inside. The contents of the envelope bewilders me even further, inside was the documents of all the deeds and proof of ownership of all the property of the Dragneel family, only that the name of the owner was all changed under my name.
'What is the meaning of this?'
Another letter answers my queries saying that I have acceded to become the CEO of all Dragneel related corporations and the rightful owner to all of their property through a debt that the Dragneel could not pay and thus had to mortgage all their property. However, what was the debt that it could be an amount this large? And most importantly, why am I the one to accede to this position? Have they really relinquished their wealth?
Chapter 15~ Bitter Tears
Towering skyscrapers of alcohol bottles overwhelm the small table it is placed on. One by one, the bottles are emptied, trying to overcome obstacles in life by drowning in a sweet bliss that would never last.
A couple is seen lounging in the luxurious boudoir that belongs to none other than Ms. Heartfilia as she tries to drown herself in ignorance that felt like ecstasy.
"So Lucy, now that Natsu is out of the picture, there will be no more obstruction in the way of our relationship right?"
"Of course not my darling."
