Kyouya stared at her lips and wondered what they tasted like. He had almost kissed her before. Just a little closer and he could press his lips on hers and this time there would be no interruption. He could kiss Haruhi for real, the first and maybe also the last kiss with her. Haruhi could feel his breath tickling her skin then his hands cupped her face gently 'Is he going to kiss me?' Haruhi went red at that thought. She wasn't nervous or afraid, in contraire she felt strangely excited. Actually right now Haruhi was waiting for him to kiss her. Her first kiss with Kanako and her second one with Tamaki were surprised but this one, this time, was expected. There was nothing could stop them, wasn't it?
"Kyou-chan" The door burst open and both of them jumped. Emerging at the entrance was the girl who had appeared at the host club before. "That Tamaki kept calling you though I told you were studying" Her eyes glued on the phone so she didn't realized the situation in the room. Looking up, Hitomi was surprised to see 2 teens sitting across the table who were blushing furiously, Haruhi in embarrassment while Kyouya in anger. "Oh, Haru-chan is here too?"
Haruhi just nodded slightly and tried to hide her flushing face. Kyouya hissed through his teeth "Don't you know how to knock the door before coming in? And when did you steal my phone?" He was fuming. It was the second time he missed the chance to...do what he had been going to. There were always people so-called his best friends to interrupt him.
"Watch your mouth, Kyou-chan. I didn't steal it, I borrowed it" Hitomi snapped, then turned to Haruhi "Hi, Haru-chan, do you want to have a cup of tea with me. I didn't get to know you last time thanks to somebody here" she narrowed her eyes at Kyouya implying
"She is having some affairs with me, now return my phone and get out" Kyouya strode toward the uninvited guest, jerked his phone from her hand to be replied by a whine from Hitomi
"You're being mean to me, Kyou-chan. I'll tell father about it"
"My father hasn't been your father yet"
"In a couple days, he will. Anyway, enjoy your time with Haru-chan. After your departure, it seems impossible for you to see her again. I know it's hard to say goodbye to your friends..." Hitomi was about to blabbering continuously but met the dead glare of Kyouya, she nodded at him understanding then shifted her eyes to Haruhi "Let's have a talk later Haru-chan. Maybe at the party, I hope you to be there to congratulate me when we make the announcement of our engagement" She waved her hand then stormed out the room like the way she had got in, left the room quiet again.
Haruhi still sat at her spot, tried to understand the conversation she had heard, 'What are they talking about?' she thought while being overwhelmed by a flood of feeling. Haruhi opened her mouth first "Are you going somewhere, Kyouya senpai?"
Kyouya now returned at his seat before Haruhi and wondered if they could go on what they had been doing when Haruhi's question snapped him back to reality "ugm" He answered simply.
"On a vacation?" Haruhi wanted a yes from him. Just a yes from him would lift up the weight which was tightening her heart
"No" Why hadn't he said yes?
"Where are you going?" Kyouya thought it was time to break the new
"I'm moving to America, Haruhi" Behind the glinting glasses, his eyes stared at Haruhi, expected a respond from her but she just stayed silent. After some quiet seconds which seemed long like day for them, Haruhi cleared her throat
"I see" That was all she could say though inside her there were plenty of questions: Why? Was it because of that girl? He was forced into an arranged marriage like Tamaki had been? Was it a custom of the riches? Arranged marriage and going over sea? And he accepted it. For Tamaki, it had been because of his mother but for him, what was the reason behind his decision? But it was Kyouya who she thought about. He had plan for everything. Maybe this one was one piece of the big plan of his life. Why did she have to question him? Why did she have to care?
"I'm glad that you take the new with calmness" Kyouya raised his hand to push up the glasses. He wanted anything but her emotionless face. The fact that she didn't want to hold him back like she had done to Tamaki made his heart sink. He would never be like Tamaki anyway. "Just keep my leaving as a secret until I tell the others in direct".
Haruhi nodded slightly. She closed her notebook then grabbed her bag "I think it's time for me to leave. See you at school tomorrow, senpai" She stood up and headed toward the door.
"I will tell Tachibana..." He was about to offer her a drive but Haruhi cut him off
"Thank you, Kyouya senpai but I would prefer a walk" She quickly left the room, almost like running away from him. She could feel the tears forming in her eyes. It would be hard to explain why she cried if he caught the sight of her tears. Even she didn't have an idea why she felt like crying.
The door opened then closed before Kyouya who was now sitting alone in his room, staring at the seat Haruhi had sat. Her coldness toward his leaving seem unbearable. 'I see' was all she said, she hadn't even asked for his reason. He wasn't a stranger. He was a part of Host Club, a member of the family. At least she had to ask more or react more. That girl really knew how to toy with his feeling. And suddenly, he felt something not right. The way she left was... Kyouya rose up from his seat, strode toward the exit. Before he turned the doorknob, unexpectedly, the door burst open
"Tamaki?"
Haruhi was walking slowly on the way back home but she didn't give a heart on each step she took. Blinking away the tear in her eyes, Haruhi's lips curled up a dry smile "Making me learn to manage Club's budget, to plan Club's activities, that's how he prepares for his leaving, transferring his tasks for someone sane enough. That rich bastard" She murmured to herself then shrugged off her trivia thoughts. Haruhi recalled the moments she had shared with Host Club and he was always there, in the shadow but he was always there, besides her, explaining everything, filling her up with histories of the others, keeping tab on her... In a picture, he never stood out but somehow and someway she found him more outstanding than others. What would it be without him? It was hard to imagine.
"Why?"
"Why what?" Kyouya took a step back and looked at his best friend who was fuming for no reason.
"Why do you leave?" And yes, Tamaki was fuming for a reason "Why do you accept it? Why do you let him arrange your life?" His eyes glued on Kyouya as if he would find the answer in those onyx eyes. But Kyouya pushed up his glasses, hiding his eyes behind the glinting ones.
"It's not arranged" He said in a cold voice with a simple shrug. Tamaki blinked in confusion. "I made my own decision on my own will. That's what I want, Tamaki"
"No, you're lying. You couldn't choose to leave your family for ... some random air-head girl"
"What nonsense thing are you talking about, Tamaki?" Kyouya sighed annoyed. He really didn't have the mood to deal with the blond right now. He just wanted to chase after the brown hair girl and check out if his thought was right.
"So you chose that girl over me, over Host club, over Ha...?" Tamaki question him with a deep serious frown. However Kyouya's patience was worn out. He just cut his friend off
"I don't choose anything over you guys. This is simply a stepping stone to help me get what I want. If you're my friend, you should encourage me."
"I don't encourage you to follow the path that you will regret for the rest of your life" Tamaki snapped and gave him a furious glare.
"There is no regret in Ootoris' dictionary" Kyouya stated clearly and walked toward the door. He would explain everything to Tamaki but right now every nerve in his body just urged him to find Haruhi.
"You bring the Ootori up, ok. Then I will never ever let go of Haruhi." Kyouya stopped dead on his track and threw the blond a look over his shoulder. "I won't push her toward you like you did. I will hold her really tight this time, Kyouya because I know I love her." Kyouya's heart sunk for a moment as Tamaki turned on his heels and walked past him "And you call me moron". All the raven hair could do was staring at Tamaki's back. His urge of finding Haruhi had gone with Tamaki. Kyouya left out a depressing sigh then slumped into the couch. Raising hope just made it difficult for him to say goodbye. He lay there in silent until the rumbling thunder outsides caught his attention. Another storm was coming and it was always the blond shining amour knight who saved the day.
"HARUHI" Tamaki burst open the door of Fujioka's apartment without ringing the bell. The thunder was rumbling loudly as coming was a big storm. "Haruhi?" His eyes scanned around the dark living room, looking for the sign of the brown hair girl. His heart sunk at the sight of trembling Haruhi under the table. Not wasting a second, Tamaki strode toward her, knelt down and pulled her into his warm hug. Like a cue, Haruhi started sobbing in Tamaki's embrace. Speechless, the blond just held her tighter and ran his hand up and down her back to comfort her. He didn't know how long they had stayed like that but it went really dark when Haruhi finally fell into sleep in her crying. Tamaki moved her body slightly to be more comfortable when something fell off Haruhi's lap. He hadn't realized she was clutching it while holding her in his arm. His blue eyes widened then his lips curled up a smile at the picture frame of host club lying on the floor. 'She was thinking of us' Haruhi sought the comfort from Host Club when she was in despair. Giving his princess a gentle look, Tamaki lifted her up bride-style and headed toward her room. Haruhi sniffed and snuggled closer to his chest just made Tamaki's smile wider. Slowly and carefully, he lay Haruhi down on her bed. Just when he was going to stand up, a petit hand grabbed the hem of his shirt.
"Don't go" Haruhi mumbled in her sleep "Don't go" Tamaki settled down on the edge of her bed and squeezed her hand lovingly
"I don't go anywhere" whispered Tamaki.
"Don't go" She clutched her blanket instead of Tamaki's shirt now "Kyouya" The last word escaped her pretty mouth seemed soundless but loud enough for Tamaki to hear. He froze like a statue beside the sleeping girl. It felt like all the oxygen in the air was vanished and he couldn't breathe for his life. Tamaki closed his eyes and took a deep heave. He leaned down and plants a soft kiss on Haruhi's temple
"I guess you didn't cry because of the thunder then. Finally, you got over your fear. Daddy is so proud" Tamaki smiled slightly but tears were forming in his eyes. Blinking away the tears, he stood up and walked out her room without a small sound.
Closing the door as quiet as possible, Tamaki searched the switch to turn on the light. Once the light took over the room, Tamaki jumped like his soul got out of the body because of 4 other figures in the living room without his knowing.
"What the... When and how could you get in here?" asked Tamaki at the fellows in Host club.
"We've been here for a while" Hikaru shrugged "And the door wasn't locked" Kaoru added.
"How is Haru-chan?" Hani looking up from his cake asked worried
"She is sleeping" The blond left out a deep sigh then sat down with his friends around the table. They stayed at their seats in an awkward silence before Hikaru opened his mouth
"So when are you going to break the news?"
Tamaki's eyes widened in surprise 'They've already known?' He thought. After a little pause, Tamaki shook his head lightly "I don't know how to say about it" About Kyouya's leaving, about the falling apart of host club, he had no idea to say to his friends.
"It's not that difficult" Hikaru shrugged "It's not like we would object it"
"You don't want to break our family bond but you… we all know that day will come" Kaoru gave Tamaki an assuring smile that made the blond frown. He wouldn't think that the twins would take the news with this calmness. Just thinking about Kyouya leaving Host Club and engaging to that girl made his blood boiled.
"Maybe you don't have to reveal it to everyone but at least confront to us so that we know our plan has worked" Hikaru said impatiently. Tamaki's frown deepened
"What are you talking about? What's news you want me to break, Hikaru?"
"What else? You and Haruhi together" Hikaru said annoyed while clenching his fist under the table, which wasn't unnoticed by Kaoru. The younger twin's hand reached for his fist to unclench it.
"You two are in a relationship, aren't you?" Kaoru's question made Tamaki's eyes widen in shock
"What are you talking about? We're NOT" He protested
"You're not?" This time it was the twins' eyes went huge "But I saw you went out on a date and you k-k-ki…" Hikaru stuttered
"Kissed Haruhi" Kaoru finished his brother's sentence.
"WHAT? You saw us? You stalked us?" Tamaki jumped on his feet, gaping at the twins.
"We cared for you" the twins said in unison with shrugs "Finally, you can realize your feeling for her"
"And we were curious" Hani, who was silent from the beginning of the talk, said. Tamaki turned his look to his senpais
"You, too Hani senpai, Mori senpai?"
"Ah" Mori nodded. Suddenly, Tamaki seemed to understand everything about his friends' actions, about their teases on him before. They knew he loved Haruhi and they wanted him to realize it. What else could he want from a friend? His lip slowly curled up a smile, Tamaki sat down again.
"But the day after, you all acted as if nothing had happened" Tamaki raised an eyebrow curious
"Because we wanted everything back to normal" "Like the old days when we were a family and still clueless about our feelings." There was sadness in the twins' voice. They truly wanted everything to be back like the old days, but it could never be since life went on.
"I see" Tamaki dreamily remembered Host club's old days with laughs, cries, love and happiness…
"Takashi and I" Hani's sweet voice pulled Tamaki and the twins from their train of thought "We know that Tama-chan and Haru-chan are not in a relationship. Because Haru-chan doesn't love Tama-chan like the way he does. Haru-chan cares for…"
"Kyouya" Tamaki interrupted. The twins gaped in surprise. Things were getting more clouded for them. "Haruhi has feeling for Kyouya" Tamaki said bitter-sweetly
"I don't" Another voice was raised behind them made 5 boys jump. On the doorway of the bedroom, standing was Haruhi with annoyance. "I don't have any kind of romantic feeling for anyone, especially him".
