Chapter 14: History of Cooler
Age 764
"What? My brother got destroyed by a Saiyan? That's absurd, how could a Saiyan generate enough power to destroy Frieza?"
His henchman, Neiz, didn't meet his eyes as he spoke, instead staring down at the floor as he bowed, speaking in a quivering voice, "It's true my lord. It's a Saiyan from planet Earth."
'Father always did spoil you rotten you brat. Now you had to go and disgrace father and I by getting killed by a Saiyan.'
"And I'm afraid he wasn't alone," Sauze joined in, sounding much more confident than Neiz yet paradoxically even more hesitant. "Your father was with Frieza when he died, and he was killed by the Saiyan as well."
That gave him real pause. Frieza was widely considered the strongest in the universe but he was one of the few who knew the truth, that their father was the real juggernaut in their family. Frieza may have been more powerful than him, but he was nothing compared to their father. And he had been vanquished as well by some Saiyan?
'I wouldn't stand a chance against a being capable of dispatching father and Frieza together, even with my new form. And if father is dead, there is no one left to lead the empire... No one left standing in my way.'
"Sauza, set a course for Frieza 01. It's time for us to make our presence known to the galaxy. I don't want any lowly upstarts thinking that just because Frieza is dead they're suddenly in charge."
"Of course my lord." Sauza said with a bow. "But what about the matter of the Saiyan?"
"Forget about it. I'm not going out of my way to get killed for my brother's stupidity. Besides, this Saiyan did me a favour by clearing my path to the throne. We won't have to work in the shadows any longer, soon the galaxy will learn to tremble in fear of the name Cooler, not Frieza."
He rose from his stone seat, smashing it to pieces with an ecstatic swish of his tail. He was about to reach a level of power he'd only considered in his wildest dreams, who cared about some monkey living on a backwater world?
Age 780
"I should have known you were behind this. Only a Saiyan would have the audacity to attack worlds under my protection."
The Saiyan smirked, eyes wandering to the side where shock waves were building up through the skies. That would be where the Armoured Squadron and the other minions he'd brought with him were fighting the motley crew the Saiyan had surrounded himself with. In the boughs of the enormous tree they stood in, it was hard to hold onto the sense of scale. The explosions that looked minuscule next to its branches were easily large enough to swallow cities whole.
"I'm surprised you caught onto me so soon. I'd planned to hit another hundred worlds before confronting you myself." He said, ripping off his white cloak and casting it aside. "But seeing you in person, I think I was being overcautious."
Cooler narrowed his eyes at the remark but said nothing else, content to leave his arms crossed as the palm-haired Saiyan in front of him flexed his muscles. The first sign he'd received of this space pirate scum had been when a suspiciously large number of jobs had come back uncompleted. Not because his mercenaries had failed, but because all life was gone before they got there. And the mighty scars gouged into the surface of the barren worlds made it clear that what he was dealing with wasn't a coincidence. Working out a pattern had been difficult at first, since the planets targeted weren't just those with high populations or mineral wealth. When one of his analysts had pointed out that the targets were all noted to have highly fertile soil, it had been trivial from there to see that the next attack was going to be one of his own worlds.
Cooler Planet 603 being hit changed this scum's crimes from merely poaching his business to a far worse insult. Attacking one of his planets couldn't be ignored, and he couldn't let the culprit face only his elites considering how overconfident they'd gotten. He'd chosen to handle the criminal himself, and when his ship had arrived in orbit and caught the explosive growth of the world-tree, he knew he'd been right not to trust dealing with the situation to one of his subordinates.
After finding out that the one in charge of this operation was a Saiyan and their mutual separation from their underlings, he found himself staring at a being who had gone unchallenged for far too long.
"Tell me, are you the same Saiyan who killed my family? I'd been meaning to give credit where it was due for that." Cooler remarked.
"A Saiyan killed Frieza?" The monkey's eyes went wide with shock, and that gave Cooler his answer. In a way he felt disappointed. If this Saiyan had been the one he owed his empire to, at least then killing him would have avenged the honour of his father and Frieza – as little as the brat had possessed.
"So it wasn't you. A shame, I was looking forward to facing an opponent of that calibre." Cooler sighed. "Though I suppose its a lucky break for you – now I won't take this seriously."
An angry growl emerged from the Saiyan's throat as a thrumming purple aura lit up the air around them, stripping the leaves from the branches nearby.
"You shouldn't relax just yet Cooler! I may not be able to claim that honour, but I do have something in common with the one who slew Frieza." The scowl on the Saiyan's face transformed into a smirk as they pointed a thumb at themselves. "My name is Turles, and I am a Super Saiyan!"
The wind picked up in intensity as Turles' aura grew wider, the smooth points becoming jagged edges that mirrored the sharp style of his hair rising up in the wind. A mad grin spread over his lips as he shifted a leg back, with Cooler uncrossing his arms in response.
"A Super Saiyan?"
A purple blur raced towards him at a speed he had difficulty perceiving, and a blow smashed into the side of his skull and sent his soaring back through the air, his block forming a second late. He barely noticed the thick wood being smashed to pieces as he broke through it, and the rushing air currents of the upper atmosphere were brought to a stop along with his body as he spread his limbs out and let loose a pulse of energy.
"That shouldn't have happened." Cooler muttered, tentatively touching the side of his face with his hand. He could feel the warmth spreading through his flesh, the dull pain that confirmed that the impossible had just occurred. Far below he could see the battle between his men and Turles' had paused, with Sauza staring up at him with his jaw falling open.
"Pay attention to your opponents! This isn't the time to get distracted!"
His words didn't come a moment too soon, as Turles' soldiers recovered from the shock first and struck, the one with the ponytail rushing Sauza and ramming his knee into his gut while the cyborg uppercut Neiz. Cooler grit his teeth and formed an energy ball in his hand, trying to aim a shot that wouldn't hit one of his own men.
"You need to follow your own advice!"
Cooler's head whipped around just in time to see Turles charging at him with a punch being thrown his way.
WHAM!
His tail hit the side of Turles' face like a bullwhip, leaving a sharp red welt as the Saiyan was sent hurtling back at the same speed as he'd come at him with. Yet to his surprise the grey-armoured Saiyan came to a stop only a few meters away from him, rubbing his cheek with the back of his hand as he gave him a sly look.
"So, the lizard can fight. It's good to know I didn't waste all that time planting the Tree of Might on a soft target. All those people would have died for nothing, when I could have ruled over them."
'So the tree is the source of his power? Interesting. Father told me many stories, but a tree that sucked the life out of a planet wasn't one of them.'
"You're looking to rule? I thought you Saiyans were only concerned with battle, or at least you low class warriors."
"I'm the strongest being in the universe, all the weak should bow to me. Starting with you."
Turles pointed his hand forward, a purple glow starting to build in intensity as Cooler flew backwards to create distance between them. Dozens of bolts of energy shot through the sky around him, forcing him to dodge and weave between them as he picked up speed. A few exploded against his back, but he ignored them as he started to curve around in the air. Once he'd made a U-turn he could see the number of purple bolts trailing off, with only a handful heading towards him.
A thick layer of purple energy coated him as he braced himself before zooming towards Turles with with full speed. The Saiyan barely had time to blink before Cooler slammed into him, sending him shooting into the trunk of the Tree of Might at supersonic speed. Without waiting Cooler aimed his palm down at the Saiyan's shrinking form, gathering purple energy into his hand for a second before firing the blast. Turles struck the tree hard enough to shake its gargantuan structure and cause an earthquake on the ground far below, and the Death Wave which hit seconds later exploded with sufficient force to turn everything within a kilometre into rubble.
Cooler floated down towards the expanding cloud of light brown dust, folding his arms across his chest. The Saiyan was done, he was sure of it. That kind of impact would have been painful for him, for something as lacking in durability as a Saiyan it was death. The reason he hadn't already gone to help his men was because he wanted to see the body for himself. This Saiyan, Turles, was far stronger than any Saiyan had the right to be. He knew the Tree blocking half the sky was the cause, but the monkey had still needed ambition to get this far. That kind of drive let exceptional warriors survive where lesser ones failed. And if Cooler was sure of something, it was that Turles was an exception.
The debris cloud was washed away in an instant as a purple light rose, a sparking meteor of energy crashing into both of his hands. Cooler growled, forcing more power into his hands as he felt numbness spread through his fingers as the attack began deteriorating. He'd only caught it in time by reacting on instinct, it was astonishing that Turles had been able to recover and form such an impressive attack in such short time.
With a cry of effort he threw the bolt up into the sky, watching the comet tail of the attack recede as it entered space. He breathed deeply in and out, trying to recover from the electric tingling in his limbs. A loud whooshing sound in the air alerted him to the incoming blow, and he ducked beneath it just before Turles became visible behind him.
CRACK
The sound of Turles gagging reached his ears moments after he'd struck the Saiyan in the torso with his elbow, his limb still being embedded in the cracking grey armour. As he moved back for his next strike he could see that Turles hadn't escaped his attacks unscathed – blood was running down the top of his head and the armour covering his legs had broken off.
Cooler allowed himself a moment to bask in his opponent's pain before diving back in with a punch aimed at Turles' throat. The Saiyan's eyes bulged as his throat was forcibly closed, yet Cooler didn't leave him any time to linger on that as he took thick handfuls of the Saiyan's dark hair into both hands before bringing his skull down onto his raised knee. Cooler repeated this bashing three more times before letting go, an arc of blood leaving Turles' nose as he fell back in a daze.
"You should never have challenged me."
Cooler said, spiking Turles out of the air with a double axe-handle. As he watched the Saiyan's body strike the dirt fast enough to send up a mushroom cloud, Cooler smirked and raised one finger into the air.
'It's funny. For some reason I thought he'd stop before he hit the ground. Ah well, it may not be the same Saiyan who killed father but it feels good bringing the species one step closer to extinction.'
The orange orb that formed at the end of his fingertip expanded to the size of a small moon in a second, a testament to how much he'd improved his energy gathering capabilities over his upstart brother. As soon as he threw the Supernova down, any chance the Saiyan had at surviving was gone. At the last moment he noticed a few of his own soldiers trying desperately to escape the blast radius, but he didn't waste any more thought on it. If they mattered they wouldn't have been so weak.
The Supernova detonated, and the air around him turned to fire. Countless smaller branches broke from the Tree and caught alight, just before all visibility was lost as the sky burned white. Cooler stared into this maelstrom with a smile. It wasn't very often that he had a chance to use his favourite attack, and whenever he did it put a smile on his face.
There was little smoke after the attack, most of the matter had been scattered far and wide by the detonation. A few black wisps were rising from the sides of crater, but Cooler was far more taken with how he could see no sign of Turles. Not a burned shadow across the ground, no scattered ashes, no bloodstained chips of armour, nothing.
'He has to be dead… but why can't I shake this feeling?'
Movement out from behind the blackened trunk of the Tree of Might caught his eye, and as soon as he turned in its direction he knew that he was right to have been suspicious. While he was covered in soot and missing both gauntlets, all his lower armour and a pauldron, he was still alive, and grinning up at Cooler in spite of his damaged appearance.
"Sorry, you'll have to do better than that if you want to get rid of me. You're not dealing with the average Saiyan warrior right now." Turles said, clenching his fists and flaring his aura with a yell.
"Yes, you're a Super Saiyan. So far you've excelled at surprising me and nothing more. You look half dead, while the worst I've suffered is a mere bruise. And the best part is, I haven't even tapped into my true power." Cooler responded by spreading his arms wide, chuckling as he saw Turles glare at him.
"If that's the case then I think its time I even the odds. Prepare yourself Cooler, you're about to witness the true power of the Saiyan race!"
A pure white orb lit up Turles palm before he threw it up into the sky. Curiously, he'd aimed it at a distant part of the sky far away from Cooler, so if it was an attack it was an extraordinarily bad one.
"Burst and mix!"
As soon as he said those words a pale moon hung in the skies, and Cooler realised exactly what Turles' game was. Looking back down he saw the Saiyan's body go through convulsions as his eyes turned red and hair started growing all over his body. The tail Cooler hadn't noticed until then unlooped from around his belt as Turles' snout began expanding along with the rest of his body.
"Now this is interesting." Cooler said to himself, frowning at the rapidly growing Oozaru. Turles had been a good challenge to his strength but with his injuries his power level had been reduced, he was sure of it. But transformed he was ten times stronger… the tables had definitely turned.
Red beams left Cooler's eyes and blew apart the artificial moon before the Oozaru had regained its senses. Yet to his dismay the transformation didn't cease. And once Turles was eye level with his position in the air, the Oozaru grinned.
"I WARNED YOU NOT TO UNDERESTIMATE A SAIYAN. I SHOULD STILL HAVE ENOUGH BLUTZ WAVES IN ME TO LAST ANOTHER TEN MINUTES. I'LL ONLY NEED THREE TO CRUSH YOU LIKE A BUG."
Cooler grimaced, building up his energy and releasing it in violet waves around his body.
'This is not going to be pleasant.'
Turles: An Hour Later
He and Cooler were both staring each other down near a waterfall. Somehow during the course of their fight they had moved away from the devastated landscape to a more verdant region of the planet, one that had yet to be touched by the Tree of Might's effects. Really, he blamed himself for the last half hour of combat he'd endured. Cooler's first move after he'd tried to attack as an Oozaru had been to retreat into space and pelt the area with blasts, and there hadn't been anything he'd been able to do but blindly fire up into the air. His tremendous power had been wasted and as soon as Cooler had returned he'd done so with a vengeance. Their clash had shown that they were still remarkably evenly matched, especially with the worst of his injuries being healed by his transformation – though the fatigue after reverting to normal had made him sloppy. He thought he'd recovered by now, but the Arcosian was landing too many blows past his guard for him not to be doing something wrong.
"Well done Saiyan, you're the first one to ever push me to use 100% of my power. Not even my brother would have been able to withstand the power I have now."
While he knew it wasn't genuine, it still felt good to know that he was stronger than Frieza. The former emperor of the universe still inspired fear in the many corners of the universe Turles had frequented before returning to PTO space, dying hadn't changed that in the slightest. Of course most of it was based on the ignorant confusing Cooler for Frieza based on appearance alone. But having to face him, he wasn't feeling the same thrill he imagined himself facing Frieza with. It was obvious why. Frieza had enslaved his people and turned the few remnants into dogs performing tricks for the scraps he threw their way, Cooler was just a strong alien to him. It didn't feel as personal, as much as he wanted it to.
"Thank you. Every world I fed to the Tree of Might I did for this moment, when I could face a member of the invincible Cold family and hold my own." He responded in earnest, with the unspoken truth that he'd done it to face Frieza going unsaid.
"Now, as you may now this is the third transformed state of my kind, the original form which hosts the lion's share of our power. But I have discovered a fourth beyond it. You will be the first to see it. Yes, first you will see then you will die!"
The burst of power that rushed into him let Turles know that Cooler wasn't bluffing, the inhuman groaning he heard from the Arcosian next as his body contorted and bulked confirmed it. Before the transformation finished he zipped into the air, taking off in the direction of the Tree of Might as fast as his energy could propel him. It was early but there was a chance that some fruit was ready, and he needed every advantage he could get if he wanted-
THUUUUM!
Pain erupted in his gut as something like a sledgehammer slammed into his gut, shooting him back across the sky. Then something hit him in the base of his spine, dropping him into a cliff which collapsed around him. He didn't even get a chance to stand out from under the rubble as he was grabbed by the face and dragged across the landscape, his scream of pain muffled by the huge hand over his head as the side of his body was scraped raw. Finally he was let go, shooting into the side of a mountain, the dark rock caving under his back and the little armour that had survived the kick falling off.
In a daze he saw a purple blur heading towards him before a giant knee slammed into his stomach in the same position as it had before, forcing saliva out of his mouth as he folded around the limb.
"See monkey, you're not the only one with a surprise transformation. And as you can see, mine is far more refined than a brutish ape." Cooler said, his deep voice coming from behind a mask of bone as he towered over Turles sunken form.
Now that he had stopped to talk, Turles could see the full extent of Cooler's transformation. It was far simpler than the Oozaru form, but in a way just as terrifying. The Arcosian had transitioned from a slim yet powerful figure into an eight foot tall beast of a creature, with spikes protruding from his arms, shins and crown. Cooler's eyes were pure red as well, which struck Turles as being oddly similar to his own as an Oozaru.
"We're not done yet." Turles growled, summoning up the power he had left. The mountainside splintered and broke before he launched himself up through the clouds, building a charge of purple energy in his right hand as he ascended.
As he reached the high point in his ascent he turned around and aimed his hand down at Cooler, who was staring up at him without moving. Turles grinned and gripped his wrist with his other hand to steady his grip. If Cooler was going to be arrogant and try to take this blast head on that was fine by him!
"Calamity Blaster!"
The purple wave that expanded out from his hand rushed down towards Cooler , who he saw fly up to meet the blast. As soon as the two met he expected to feel resistance of some kind, however the energy wave continued flowing towards the ground without change. Turles had only a moment to be puzzled by it before Cooler popped up in front of him out of the streaming purple light with his fist cocked back.
He blacked out after the punch.
When he came to he was lying in the middle of a grove of alien trees, a path of devastation laid before him. Cooler was standing over him, and from his body language it was clear that he thought he'd won. If Turles hadn't been facing a monster almost as repulsive as Frieza, he'd have tried bargaining his way out by now.
"You're finally awake? Good, I want you to see this." Cooler said, rising into the air.
Raising his hand over his head, a fiery orange and red orb appeared out of nothing. Turles could only gape at the speed with which such a formidable attack had been created, and began trying to get to his feet. It was a task made much more complicated by the shaking of the earth under his feet, but he had to do it. If he was going to die, he was going to die on his feet like a warrior.
Yet for all his effort, he only made it to his knees. An alien bird fell from the sky in front of him, chirping weakly as it fluttered its wing. Maybe it was the blood loss, but it struck him as oddly profound how at the end of his life, for all the power he'd amassed, with everything he'd endured to get there, he was still going to die like a lowly animal.
"It shouldn't have ended like this." Turles whispered, clawing at the dirt under his nails. "Frieza and Cold were killed by a Super Saiyan, how could I have failed?"
'Unless I'm not a Super Saiyan after all.'
That thought distressed him just as much as the fact that he was facing his own death. He'd been so sure that he'd become the legend, and fighting evenly with Cooler had only confirmed it. The Super Saiyan was unbeatable, his victory had been assured as soon as the fight had begun. This couldn't have happened, not if he was a Super Saiyan, he couldn't have lost!
"This is the same technique Frieza used to destroy your wretched homeworld, did you know that? I was there, I watched as he turned planet Vegeta and every monkey on it into space dust. I think it's only fitting that you die the same way they died."
In a move so fast that he missed it entirely, the Supernova was sent hurtling down at him. Weakly he formed an energy blast and fired it into the growing mass of red energy, but it barely dented the surface before he was swallowed by it.
Cooler
It took some effort to divert the Supernova away from the surface of the planet, but it was easily worth the satisfaction of killing the monkey in such an awe-inspiring fashion. In a breath he transformed back down to his original form, and flew back towards the Tree of Might. If the battle was still ongoing between his men and Turles', he was going to end it.
'It's odd. The Saiyan's death gave me a feeling of deja vu, it's almost like I saw it before…'
When he arrived at the scene the humanoid with the spiked hair was fighting Sauza, who was distressingly down to a single arm. The two small impish beings were being dogpiled by his more expendable minions and there was no sign of Neize or Dore.
Death beams exploded the heads of the three remaining Crusher Corps before he landed in front of Sauza, who looked immensely relieved.
"Lord Cooler, I-"
"Save it. Get yourself to the ship's medical bay immediately."
"Yes, my lord." Sauza said, looking at his arm stump with a wince before bursting away with a pale trail of light.
"Now, someone tell me where Dore and Neize are." Cooler ordered, looking around to the soldiers assembling around them. All of them looked injured to some degree and covered in dirt. The worst of them looked to be on death's door, but he wasn't about to waste any treatment on them until he'd confirmed if one of his valuable personnel was still alive.
"They're both alive, they're asleep somewhere around here. They used all their energy to kill the big guy with a ponytail. They don't need a healing tank, but a lot of us do."
Cooler's crimson eyes settled on the speaker, who was a pale green gecko-like alien in a torn PTO bodysuit. He was seated on top of the corpse of one of the midgets they had been fighting, and was looking back at Cooler with a look in his eyes that promised trouble.
"Thank you for the information, however, you should watch your tone."
A fourth Death Beam left his finger to claim another life as it speared through the soldier's heart, dropping them instantly.
"Someone remove the body. The rest of you, find Neize and Dore and take them to the ship for healing."
He took off to the ship himself, flying at a leisurely pace. His body still ached from the fight with Turles but that was a secondary concern at the moment. He was proud that he'd been able to kill a worthy foe, even if they had been a Saiyan, and put his fifth form to the test. After this he'd need to train more and increase his power to an even higher level to assure he'd never be challenged again.
But for now, what to do with the Tree of Might? Turles had used it to go from a low class warrior to being capable of rivalling him, but he'd needed to consume the energies of hundreds of worlds to get that far. And he'd still proven inferior to the strength Cooler had gained on his own. It was a point of pride for him that he'd earned his power, unlike Frieza, and using the Tree of Might would cost his empire all the worlds he sacrificed for his stolen power.
No, the tree would have to go. He'd get to it tomorrow, but one thing was certain: There was about to be a massive supply of wood on the galactic market.
Present
The confrontation with Turles had catalysed more changes than he could have anticipated. Sauza had acquired an artificial arm and Neize had required multiple cybernetic implants to survive his wounds, but the Tree of Might had affected far more than its late caretaker. The bounty of fruit the next day had increased the strength of his Armoured Squadron to previously unimaginable levels, but that was the silver lining on a very dark cloud. While he had been asleep and his best men recovering in their healing pods, some of the fruit had been stolen and passed around. The occasional rebels he'd had to deal with after knowledge spread that his family weren't invincible suddenly gained a tool to not only devastate his business, but increase their power levels as well. In a single year he'd had to face not only half his empire defecting, but the other half suddenly being drained of all life and under assault from superior forces. None of them were anywhere close to being as strong as Turles, but he couldn't be everywhere, and towards the end of the uprising a few rebels had surpassed the Armoured Squadron in power. Finally beheading the leader of the Scorch rebellion had been the most satisfying moment of his life, since it meant an end to the greatest headache he'd ever endured.
Things had been back to normal for a while now, and Cooler was perfectly happy about that. He rarely had to deal with conquering a world himself unless he wanted to now, since his heavily broadcast execution of the rebel leadership had cemented him as an icon of fear as great as Frieza had been.
"My lord, we are receiving a distress signal from Cooler #701." Sauza said, breaking the quiet of the bridge.
"This again. Honestly, I wonder how many times I have to teach the Yardrats this lesson. I killed their last champion hard enough to cause an ice age, you'd think that would be lesson enough." Cooler said with a smile, leaning back in his chair with a smile as he thought back to the end of that battle.
"That's the thing sire, I'm getting additional reports from the planet, it doesn't look like Yardrats are the ones attacking. It appears to be someone new. I'll put a visual up on the screen."
"Oh?" Cooler sat up in his chair as the starry field projected on the wall of the bridge was replaced with multiple shots of tiny blue insectoid beings tearing apart buildings and vehicles, and savagely beating his soldiers. From one of the pictures he could see one of them firing a Death Beam after one of his fleeing men, which sparked his interest. That technique belonged to his family, and if it was an imitation it was a damn good one. It didn't change that he'd have to go and end this problem before it spread, but it did give him something to speculate about on the flight there.
"Cancel all my appointments and set a course for 701. How long will it take us to get there?"
"Three weeks my lord, if my estimates are correct." Neize offered, giving a short bow as he stepped alongside Sauza.
"Hmph. Very well. Keep monitoring that feed for any significant information. I'll be in my quarters."
Cooler ignored the patchwork metal studs over Neize's body as he drifted past him and Sauza out the door of the bridge into the hallway. An ominous feeling was coming down on him, a feeling he'd learned to trust over the course of his experiences. He wasn't even sure what to expect from the strange attackers, but if one of them was using his family's moves, that was a sign of a potentially huge problem.
'I bet father never had to deal with these problems when he was in charge.'
Over the decades of his reign he'd had to deal with more rebels, assassination attempts and unusual problems than he'd ever heard of his father or Frieza ever going through. It was all worth it for the power, but sometimes he wondered if he'd made the right decision all those years ago. When he'd decided that going after the Saiyan who slighted his family's honour was more trouble than it was worth, when he decided that the best revenge was seizing the reins of power for himself… sometimes it felt like he had made the wrong choice.
AN: Just a single week late, ha! I blame my mom for springing a surprise hiking trip on me last Sunday. This chapter also ended up much longer than it was supposed to be since the bits with Turles were supposed to be peppered throughout the next few chapters but then I started with them and couldn't stop. Consider it very much the abridged version since going all in with a historic fight seems wildly unnecessary. Next chapter we're back with our perfect protagonist, and the one after that takes us back to Earth.
And since the numbers are relatively low, here are some outdated power levels! Using BoD or the accepted canon system no base non-Super Saiyan could ever get numbers that high, but eating divine fruit helped bypass that limit.
Cooler (Age 780): 80 000 000
Turles: 80 000 000
Turles Oozaru: 800 000 000
Cooler Form V: 160 000 000
Cooler (Present): 100 000 000
Cooler V: 200 000 000
Why is Cooler so weak compared to Frieza? The only one to ever hurt Frieza was Cold, the amount of power Frieza used to thoroughly thrash Cooler was 50%. So after he surpassed that level he felt like he had surpassed Frieza's full power and slacked off. The fight with Turles was a bit of a wake up call but after that his progress slowed down again. I don't care enough to give power levels for the Armoured Squadron but in the present they're all stronger than second form Frieza after using the Tree of Might fruit.
Other trivia info: The Gecko alien mouthing off the Cooler was the leader of the rebellion, and was revived using the Tree of Might in the same way Turles did those two goblins. The rebel movement being named the Scorch was because of their scorched earth tactic against the PTO, and because it was opposing the Frost Dynasty. Oh, and I chose to use Turles like this because in all possible iterations of this story, he and Dr Wheelo are the only two I found absolutely no use for.

Luke: I agree with your sentiment, even if you got the details a little wrong. Super came out way after my plans for this fic, so while I will use its content in a later special it won't be in the story at this point.
Wait a minute: I so wanted to do a Super Sonic Warriors fic, and it would have made my life a lot easier if I had, but I didn't. Though a DBM using those universes would be super cool imo.
