After finally setting himself on the top of a building only mere blocks away from the Imperial Palace where Chief of State Daala's office was, Qwallo Mode turned and unleashed a wave of the Force with his free hand. The wave hit all of the vehicles chasing him, including all of the Coruscant Security Force vehicles and the three Jedi StealthXs that were just on his tail. Those vehicles were all bumped back by several meters, many of them careening into and off of the durasteel walls of multiple buildings. Explosions occurred all around as a result.

The StealthXs, meanwhile, along with the four CSF vehicles that remained, turned slightly from Mode to set down on the roof of a building roughly a block away. The occupants of these vehicles - the officers of the CSF cruisers, and the three Jedi Masters of the StealthXs - left their vessels to regroup, all the while keeping a collective eye on Mode. The mad Jedi Knight himself just stood there, his alien face utterly expressionless, staring back, his thoughts unreadable to even the three Masters that were just pursuing him, never mind an experienced sabacc player.

"You officers all stay here," Master Hamner said to the eight cops with them. "You can leave Jedi Mode to Masters Ramis, Katarn, and myself. You can have him once we're done with him."

Each of the officers all nodded and expressed their agreement as they talked over each other; yet one could still tell, even as they looked at Qwallo Mode in the short distance, that they were all as nervous as they were angry about what Mode did to their colleagues and dozens of Coruscanti citizens. They all knew that it was better to leave the Masters to handle Mode; no non-Force-using officer of the law could handle a Jedi Knight on his or her own anyway, even if there was more than one of them.

With that, Hamner, Octa Ramis, and Kyle Katarn all unhooked their lightsabers from their belts, activated them, and then rushed forward to leap over the gap to the next building ahead. A few rooftops later, they finally made it to the roof that the statue-still Qwallo Mode stood, staring back at the now-slowly-approaching Masters.

The three Masters then stopped several meters away from Mode at the wave of Hamner's free hand. The acting Grand Master then spoke to the Duros Knight with, "Jedi Knight Qwallo Mode, surrender at once, or prepare to be destroyed."

Mode growled. "Why bother pretending to be the Masters you all portray? You all rule this world now; I'm not part of it. You can just kill me now; I won't be part of this Sith Order!"

"Sith Order?" Octa asked. "What are you talking about, Jedi Mode?"

"Don't lie to me!" Mode yelled. "You're all Sith in disguise! I can feel it through the Force itself! You're just trying to get me to become a part of you, through lies, manipulation, deceit! I'll die before I join you, like any other Jedi should!"

"Jedi Mode," Katarn said, taking a step forward from the trio of Masters, "I know what a Sith is. And believe me, none of us are anywhere close to Sith."

"Why should I believe you?!" Mode replied. "If you're so willing to get me to believe that you really are the Jedi Masters you appear to be, then put away your lightsabers right now!"

"All right then," Octa said. "But you put away yours first."

"What?!" Mode exclaimed. "No! If I do that, you'll kill me easily!"

"I thought you said that we wanted you to convert to being a Sith," Hamner reasoned.

"Ah-hah!" Mode yelped. "You admit it! You really are Sith!" He held up his lightsaber closer to his body, prepared for attack. "Now you will all die." The Duros rushed forward, screaming at the top of his lungs.

"I can handle him," Octa said before she leaped forward from her fellow Masters. She landed before Mode, meeting the Duros halfway, and began clashing blades with the mad Knight.

However, instead of managing to defeat him in a matter of less than half a dozen quick clashes, Octa continued to duel Mode; she ducked, blocked, and struck as if she were fighting someone who was her equal in combat instead of someone of lesser rank. As the fight continued, Hamner and Katarn traded a disconcerted look before refocusing their attention on the duel before they began to circle Octa and Mode.

"You see?!" Mode shouted, not shrinking from his mad attacks against the defending Octa. "You truly aren't the Masters you appear to be! A real Jedi Master can defeat me easily! Only a Sith could be unable to defeat a Jedi Knight, for the dark side of the Force is nothing more than an illusion of power over the destruction it veils! And! I! Will! Defeat! You!"

At that, Mode maneuvered his lightsaber's blade past Octa's defenses and his sizzling green blade pierced her torso.

"No!" Hamner and Katarn exclaimed simultaneously.

By then, Octa's body had seized up in a stilted stillness before her lightsaber deactivated and dropped to the ground of the roof. Her corpse then went limp as Mode retracted his blade from his dead opponent, who dropped to the ground like a ragdoll.

Hamner and Katarn then rushed toward Mode from either side. However, Mode unleashed another Force-wave - albeit a smaller one than the one he unleashed on the vehicles pursuing him - toward Hamner, blowing the acting Grand Master back to the ledge of the roof behind him. Mode then turned his complete attention to Katarn and began dueling him as hard as he had dueled Octa.

Hamner, meanwhile, had slid over the ledge of the roof, but flipped back in time to catch his free hand on that ledge to keep himself from falling. With the aid of the Force, he then launched himself from his precarious position to rocket toward Mode, whose back was turned to the acting Grand Master as he continued to fight Katarn.

But just when Hamner was inches away from striking Mode down from behind, the mad Knight had performed an action far too out of his rank and ability; he managed to leap into the air while simultaneously turning around to launch a spin-kick against Katarn's chest while locking blades with Hamner, all in the span of half a second.

Katarn collapsed to his back, but managed to flip back to his feet as Mode now clashed against Hamner. However, the duel against Hamner wasn't as long as Mode's fights with Octa or Katarn; within five seconds, he managed to carve a cauterizing furrow up the acting Grand Master's right leg before stabbing him in the left shoulder. Mode then used the Force to send the wounded Master flying back several meters before he turned to face the incoming Katarn.

But this time, Mode was too late; the Duros's lightsaber-wielding arm went flying after a quick slash by Katarn's blade. The raving Knight began screaming in agony instead of madness, but he did this for only two seconds before his head flew off in the opposite direction from his dismembered arm.

Wheezing in pain at his own wounds, Hamner nevertheless looked up in both physical and mental shock as he observed Kyle Katarn standing over the headless and dismembered corpse of Qwallo Mode. The Master who had slain the mad Knight stood stock-still for several moments, his expression an image of only mental shock compared to Hamner's agony, before Katarn dropped to his knees and began to sob.

Even in his own delirium, Hamner knew that Katarn cried not for Octa, but because of what Hamner felt, even amidst his physical pain, when Katarn killed Mode; the Master had killed the Knight out of vengeance; of the dark side of the Force, and he felt like a cold-blooded murderer for it.
