AN: I feel really bad because I completely forgot about Nate these past few chapters most of you who've read since the beginning knew that Nate had really strong feelings for Nita, I wanted to so everyone how much he really cares about Nita in this chapter. So enjoy!
Chapter 14: Candy

"Stop!" Nita stopped singing and sighed heavily
"What the hell was that Nita?"
"Clyde I just got out of the hospital two days ago my voice isn't as strong as it was before."
"I don't care we have a show tomorrow and if you can't sing one fucking song, then you might as well just stay in the hotel room. Now let's run the song three more times."
"Baby I'm tired." Clyde glared at Nita and Nita knew that she just said the wrong thing. Clyde walked over to Nita and slapped her hard across the face causing her to fall to the floor. Nita looked up at Clyde with disbelief.
"You're not tired until I say you're tired! You don't understand I OWN you! If I say sing a song you say 'What's that tune?' If I say jump you say 'How high?'."
"Get yourself cleaned up before you come back to the room, you're bleeding." Clyde then briskly left the room leaving Nita all alone. She was beginning to think what if she made a mistake leaving with Clyde, he was starting to get angrier and violent with her. This was the first time he's ever hit her and if staying with Clyde meant that this was the lifestyle she would have to get used to, the only thing she had to do was stay strong for her daughter.
Tiana was sitting in her mother's kitchen watching Eudora play with Jasmine. Tiana decided to stay with Eudora for the week because Naveen was in Maldonia with his father and he didn't feel comfortable leaving Tiana and the baby alone.
"She's so precious, are there any more grandchildren am I to be expecting?"
"Mama, Jasmine is the last one."
"Mhmm, I think there's still one more on the way."
"You can go on and think that." Then there was a knock at the door.
"I'll get it." Tiana got up and answered the door.
"Oh, hey Nate, how you doin?"
"I'm good Ms. Tiana how are you?"
"Great, come on in Nate."
"Thank you ma'am."
"What brings you by?"
"Your mama wanted me to buy her a few things from the store."
"Oh hey Nate.
"Hello Mrs. Wilcox, is this Jasmine Ms. Tiana?"
"Why, yes come on Jasmine say hi." Tiana took Jasmine from Nate, who simply hid her face in Tiana's neck.
"She's adorable Ms. Tiana."
"Thank you, um Nate I knew that you and Nita were really good friends so have you heard from her you know any letters or phone calls?"
"No, I haven't heard from Nita since before she you know left."
"Oh, ok thanks Nate."
"But she is going to be in town for a performance."
"When?"
"Tonight."
"Is she gonna be at the Blues Club?"
"Yeah, I think so."
"Alright, I'm gonna go try and talk some sense into her. Mama…"
"I won't tell Naveen."
"Good, if he calls and I'm gone just tell him that I'm sleeping or taking a nap."
"Ok, Nate baby can you put away my groceries?"
"Yes ma'am."
"Tiana, I think you're making a big mistake."
"What are you talking about?"
"If you go to that club it will only push Nita away even more."
"Thank you for the advice Mama but I know my daughter better than anyone." With that Tiana went back into the kitchen and Eudora just sighed and shook her head at her daughter's stubbornness.
"She is just like her father just as stubborn as a mule."
"Nita, are you sure you're ok?"
"Inez I'm fine."
"Mhmm, so fine is throwing up everything you eat?"
"What?"
"I heard you this morning."
"Inez…" Nita was interrupted when Vivian started to cry. Nita walked over to the crib and picked up Vivian.
"Aw, my poor baby are you hungry?" Then Clyde entered the room with Roger.
"Hey baby."
"Hey."
"Baby, let me watch Jasmine today you take a break."
"Are you sure?
"Yes, go out and buy yourself something nice."
"Clyde are you sure now?"
"Yes, now give me my little princess. Maybe you can find Wanda at the hotel and you two can get a nice dress for tonight's party."
"Alright bye Clyde, bye my baby." Nita kissed Clyde one more time before leaving the hotel room.
"How are you feeling Nita?"
"Better than I was two weeks ago."
"How's Clyde treating you?"
"Wanda let's not talk about this…"
"I heard you guys fighting the other night."
"It was my fault, I wasn't getting the song right I couldn't hit my notes…"
"He hit you Nita."
"How did you know?"
"When I went to go see what was going on in there I saw him. What about Vivian or Roger? What if Roger sees Clyde hitting you, what are you going to explain to him?"
"Wanda Clyde's a man and sometimes men need something to release their stress. Clyde's so busy and he works so hard, the only thing he expects me to do is sing the songs the way he wants me to sing them and I can barely do that."
"Nita…"
"What about this dress? You think I should wear this tonight."
"Nita don't change the subject."
"Excuse me? May I try this dress on ma'am." Nita asked ignoring Wanda who shook her head and knew that she couldn't help someone how doesn't want to be helped.
Nita was backstage rocking Vivian to sleep when Inez entered the room.
"Nita, you have a visitor."
"They can come in."
"Nita baby?" Nita turned around and gasped when she saw Tiana.
"Mama?"
"Hey baby." Tiana looked and saw the baby Nita was holding and prayed to God that it wasn't Nita's child.
"Mama, this is Vivian Tiana Cole your granddaughter."
"Granddaughter? You mean to tell me that you and Clyde?"
"Yes ma'am."
"So, who's life."
"Oh it's great Mama, we went to Italy, Paris…" Nita stopped when she noticed that Tiana was about to cry.
"Inez, can you take Vivian and give me and my Mama some time alone."
"Sure thing." Inez took Vivian from Nita and left the room.
"Mama I'm so sorry I ran away it was something I need to do for me."
"Nita Amani Patel you had me worried sick about you! Do you not know how much pain you put me and your father through? You never wrote, you called me once but then you hung up on me. Nita I'm not here to yell at you I'm here to tell you to come home, where you belong."
"Mama I just can't up and leave my husband…"
"HUSBAND?! Don't tell me that you married that boy?"
"We got married three weeks ago, the day after I had Vivian."
"Nita how can you marry someone you barely know?"
"Mama I do know him, I love him."
"Nita you don't even know how to spell love."
"Mama…"
"Nita what's that on your face?" Nita looked away from Tiana too ashamed to look at her, Tiana approached her and grabbed Nita's face to get a better look.
"Did he hit you?"
"Mama it was only one time…"
"Nita, no! You are not going back with that abusive man think about not only your life but your baby?"
"Mama I am thinking about my family."
"You know what if you want to stay, stay. Nita when you get sick and tired of being sick and tired come back home." With that Tiana stormed out of the room.
"Nita, they're calling for you."
"Ladies and Gentlemen, Nina Celeste!"

After Nita's show was finished she was outside waiting for Clyde, when she heard someone call her name.
"Nita!" Nita looked behind her and saw Nate walking toward her.
"Nate I don't have time…"
"Just here me out, I've been in love with you since middle school. I remember the first day I met you, your hair was in two pony tails, you were wearing a orange dress that your grandmother made for you with brown shoes, and the sun made your eyes look even more beautiful they are. I've always wanted to tell you that I was in love with you but I just didn't know how to. After you left, it felt like nothing was the same. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't eat. I couldn't do anything because I didn't know if you were ok or not. I know you say Clyde loves you, but Nita he doesn't love you the way I love you! I love you in my soul. Nita you complete me and I can't function without you in my life. I need you by my side at all times. I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm in love with you Nita."
"Nate, who do you think…" Nate cut off Nita by pressing his lips onto hers, Nita noticed something different about this kiss, she felt passion and fire but the most important thing was love. Before Nita could wrap her mind around the kiss, Nate pulled away.
"I know you felt something Nita, because I felt something too."
"I didn't feel anything Nate." Nita lied
"Is that really how you feel?"
"Yes Nate, I'm married with a baby I can't just up and leave." Then Clyde's car pulled up beside Nita.
"Nita get your black ass in this car."
"Bye Nate." Nita started walking toward the car
"Really Nita, do you think someone who treats you like that loves you?" Nita turned around to look at Nate
"But I love him Nate, don't do this to me not right now."
"Nita, I ain't gonna tell you again to get in this car."
"I'm sorry Nate."Nita quickly got in the car and Clyde sped off.
"Yeah me too. Goodbye Nita."
