Chapter fourteen

Getting herself together Lily stepped out, she could see Lincoln standing with the others talking. "What's going on?"

"My Mom has Scylla…" Lincoln caught her looking worried, "Yea, she is still alive."

Lily kept still, "Oh," Her voice dropped before playing with her shirt, "So what's happening?"

Alex threw a laminated id badge at her, "Two days from now is on there." His attention was on Lincoln. "It doesn't add up."

Lily glanced to the badge, then up again to everyone, "So am I going to have to come along, cos this isn't making sense." Shaking her head, "We'll I want answers." She walked over picking up a cardigan, "Well don't all stand around holding your junk, let's go!"

Alex pointed to Lily walking out the door, "Does she even know where she's going?"

"I don't think so," He was quick to go after her, and it was only Self and Bagwell to run after them.

Lincoln got to the car seeing Lily standing by it, "Did you smoke?" He asked getting close to get a better smell of her.

"No!" Lily then glanced down to her shirt, then gave it a sniff, "I…" She stopped seeing the others catching up. "Let's go talk to Christina."

Lincoln watched her opening the car door getting in; he felt something being hidden from him. He hated the feeling of being lied to, but thinking that Lily could lie to him hurt more.

The ride the plaza was quiet, and while Lily got out first, she walked to a garden area, she could see Lincoln wasn't too far behind, he was starting to pace, and he couldn't think straight, he wanted to talk, but the words wouldn't come out.

Lily felt her eyes looking around, "Stevenson rooftop, 12 o'clock." Self's voice caught Lily off guard, but she glanced up and saw the sniper on the roof top.

"Mother fucker!" Lily felt herself snap, but knew everyone was going to run to try and catch up, Lily on the other hand felt herself wanting to slip back into the car, even if Theodore was still in the driver seat.

"Don't…" Lily held a hand up, she knew he was going to say something, but she wasn't in the mood. "Drive!" She saw a man running, and Bagwell drove the car into him, then Lily watched another car hitting him harder.

Lily was cleaning up Lincoln's arm, she couldn't seem to focus. "God damn it Linc!" Lily poked him in the ribs, "Keep still."

"Come on, Linc, this guy wasn't trying to hurt you." Self started, "He just didn't like your tattoo."

"You're a funny guy, Self." Lincoln snapped, "Lil!" he tried to not glare at her, but he felt the sting of the alcohol wipe. "Be careful!"

"Well if you kept still it wouldn't hurt!" Lily tried to bite her tongue; just sometimes Lincoln could be so frustrating.

"There's a lot of calls on the sniper's cell from a blocked number." Lincoln pointed out, he could see that Lily was calming down on his arm.

Lily exhaled, she placed a bandage on his arm, "You can get the company to look into it."

Bagwell shifted on the stool he was sitting on, "What if it's your mom's cell phone, Linc, and we have to pay a visit? You got the gumption?" he was interrupted by a phone call that Lincoln walked away to answer. "You know little lady, your man needs reminding we all have a hand at steak…"

"And you can't afford to lose the other…" Lily waved her right hand, and then exhaled, "I don't know what you guys think I am."

"You're the woman he loves, and men do a lot for that…" Self snapped in.

Lily shook her head, "This is Lincoln Burrows, once his mind is set, nothing." Her hand waved around her face, "Not even all this can change it." Getting to her feet she decided to walk away from it, she just couldn't even bring herself to say anything.

"Hey…" Lincoln's voice was rough, but within the roughness was a tenderness he only reserved for Lily. His fingers placed carefully on her shoulder to rub gentle against her bare shoulder. "You alright?"

Lily snapped out of her zone, "I'm good…" Her eyes connected with his for a brief second. "What's wrong?"

"Michael's in Miami…" Lincoln watched her eyes, "He wants to meet."

Lily's eyes got big for a second, "You don't want to go." She got to her feet, "I need to see him."

"Lily," Lincoln tried to stop her.

Lily shook him off, "I need to know he's okay." Her eyes going to the door, "I'm sorry."

Alex froze seeing Lily making her way towards him, "You know he doesn't want Michael involved…"

"I know, but I also want to know he's okay." Lily exhaled, "He's still important to me." Her eyes go to the car then to Alex, "Plus I like to see you try and stop me." She walked to the passenger side getting in.

Alex got into the driver's seat, he looked over Lily's face, "You okay?"

"I'm fine," Lily listened to the traffic report on the radio, but she was trying to keep herself together. Her stomach was light and felt as if she could be sick in any moment. "I just can't believe they are doing this, it's like high school all over again."

"High school?" Alex tried to keep his eyes on the road, but in the corner of his eye he could see L:ily's face changing colour.

Lily trying her hardest to keep her focus of feeling travel sick, she didn't want to put it to morning sickness, but her brain wouldn't let it go. "Michael and Lincoln fought a lot more when Michael was getting closer to his senior year of high school, so Lincoln would do anything to push Michael away." Lily stopped, "I might have feel out with Linc, but me and Michael never lost contact."

"I see," Alex made a stop at some traffic lights, "Lily, you can admit to having feelings for them both."

"Alex, it's not that simple," Lily exhaled, "I know I love Lincoln. It's not something I'll ever stop doing." Her hand brushed some hair back, "But I worry more about Michael, he's not tough like his brother."

"Well," Alex knew they had a few minutes, "You have to understand Michael isn't the same boy you knew…" He reached over touching her hand, "But I need to know what was in your envelope, cos you've played it close to your chest…"

Lily shook her head, "Alex, you and I know the company have nothing on me…"

"I know your file very well, you was never close with your parents, and most your family don't have contact with you, the only people in your life are Lincoln, Michael and the rest are dead." He exhaled, "So they have something on you, something you can't risk being exposed."

Lily shook her head, she felt the tears burning her eyes, "Alex, I need to tell someone, but you can't ever breathe this to anyone else."

"I'm thinking it has something to do with Michael, and your need to see if he's okay." Alex started to move the car again, "I've had my suspicions , but then I made a living at reading people."

Lily felt frozen, "So guessing the past few weeks me and Michael have been open books?"

"Well since I notice that he changed the way he looks at you, but then I find it amazing that Lincoln's not picked up on it."

Lily shrugged, "I really don't see Linc ever looking how other people look at me," Her hand covered her mouth feeling her stomach jump. "Right now he wants a reason to get us free of this, to be a father right for once…"

"And you'll never be able to tell him that maybe Michael's the father." Alex didn't want to sound mean, but he couldn't imagine how Lily was still keeping a front. "And you know the truth will come out by you or something else…"

"Alex…" L:ily froze seeing the pier, seeing Michael with Sara. "Guess it's show time."

Lily got out of the car feeling the air from the water, she could tell it was morning sickness starting, but she wasn't going to let it show, she walked beside Alex to get to Sara and Michael. "Hi…"

"Hello Alex… Lily." Michael glanced over Lily, she didn't look right, but he didn't know what it could be. "Where's Linc Lil?"

"He's not coming Michael," Lily brushed her hair behind her ear, "Michael, you shouldn't have come…"

"So you're working with him now?" Sara glanced from Lily to Alex, "You both work for the Company?" She kept watching Lily's face.

Lily exhaled, she held in the sick feeling, "I'm working for a way for me to get out of this shit storm that I keep getting pulled into." Her eyes were going to Alex.

Michael kept close to Sara, but every now and then see Lily's face, "Why are you here?"

"Partly to warn you." Alex kept Lily close to him, and then could see how she was staring to Sara.

Michael kept calm, "Could have saved you the trip," He then turned to Lily, "'Cause we're seeing this thing through."

"What do you know? What do you think you've walked into?" Alex kept his eyes on Michael, but he was too bust staring at Lily's pale complexion.

"You tell me." Michael took a calculated step towards them.

Lily inhaled the queasiness. "Your mother." Her eyes turned away from Michael to hold over her mouth, "Excuse me…"

"She has Scylla." Alex pointed out, but he knew Michael's eyes followed Lily to a corner watching her being sick. "Whoever's going to get it has to go through her." Alex snapped Michael's attention. "She's going to be fine, she came only to see if you're okay."

Sara watched Lily, her eyes to Alex, "She doesn't look so great."

"She's fine, a little under the weather, not been well for a while," Alex tried to get Michael's attention. "You don't need to worry about her Michael; you need to worry about yourself."

"I need to talk to my brother." Michael snapped.

Lily made her way back to the group, "Michael's he's not coming." Lily brushed her eyes. "And if you were smart, you'd not get involved."

"He's a little too busy trying to stay alive because your… because your mother tried to kill him." Alex added. "And if you stay here with some half-baked plan, she's gonna try and kill you." He looked serious to Michael and Sara.

"What are you doing here, Alex?" Michael didn't know what to do, his eyes shifting from Alex to Lily.

Lily s hand rubbed her throat, "Michael, do you know anything, anything that can help us?"

"So you can run back to the General with it?" Sara snapped to Lily.

Lily inhaled, "Why do you even care?" Her voice snapped, she knew that it was hard for her to control her temper, but it was like her mind would snap to anger.

"We don't have to choose between saving our families and taking down the Company." Alex placed a hand on Lily's stomach holding her back from Sara. "We can do both."

Lily's eyes snapped to Alex at the mention of Families. She turned on her feet heading back to the car; she felt a hand on her shoulder turning her around.

Sara never saw eye to eye with Lily, the woman was a half foot shorter than her. "I wanna apologise…"

"Shove it Sara!" Lily snapped, "Because I really don't want to hear it."

Sara paused, "You're not sick," Her eyes going over the other woman before covering her mouth. "Are you?"

"Does it matter to you?" Lily covered her stomach with her hand, "Don't say anything to Michael."

"Because it's his isn't it," Sara felt the tears in her eyes, she couldn't believe it, she could be pregnant, and here she was standing in front of another woman who could also be carrying his child as well. "Because logically speaking, Michael would be the person you had sex with to get pregnant…"

Lily laughed, "I had sex with Michael in my fertile window, but then I also had sex with Linc closer to my ovulation, so really it's about fifty, fifty…"

Sara bit down on her lip, "Well, I…" She turned to see Michael coming close to them. "Michael."

"I need to talk to Lily," His voice cool, "Alone Sara."

Sara bit her lip walking away from them feeling tears pricking her eyes.

Lily inhaled, "What Michael?"

Michael touched Lily's face, he focused on her eyes, "You come here because you're worried."

"I'm always worried about you Michael," Lily touched his hand moving it from her face, "Your mother tried to kill Linc, and that isn't the woman who taught me how to make cookies." Her voice dropped, "I don't want you getting killed."

"Then you need to tell Linc, you have to let him see that I won't stop until this is done." He froze for a second, "I don't want to see you getting caught in the middle."

"I'm always in the middle Michael," Lily lightly kissed his cheek, "But I want to let you know that this needs to be finished with, and I need us all to live." She turned to not see Michael walking away.

Alex rubbed her back, "Like I said, it's not going to be easy, as you love them both."

Lincoln couldn't help but watch Lily as he was about to leave the apartment, everything seem to be coming through in a crazy blur, and while he had to get to the airport, he had to keep himself together. "You alright?"

"I'm fine," Lily pressed a hand against her own stomach, "Getting that pregnancy glow…" Her eyes locked on his, "Just get this over with." Her hand rubbed over Lincoln's head as he leant in to kiss her, but part of him didn't know what to say, he didn't know when this was going to be over. "Come back to me." She whispered feeling him getting to his feet. "Please."

Lincoln kissed her forehead leaving the room.

Lily felt alone in the room, she got off her feet walking towards the kitchen to get something to eat, after the feeling sick, she knew the best thing to do was eat something. She kept calm listening to Bagwell on the phone, she froze watching his eyes catch hers before hanging up. "Did ya mama tell you staring is rude!"

Lily took an apple from a fruit bowl, "No, but then my mother abandoned me when I was too young to know her…" Her voice dropped, "And my dad wasn't a great role model either."

Bagwell titled his head, "You are one angry woman," He licked his bottom lip, "Who would have thought…" He made a step towards her, but watched her step back. "Don't be scared."

"I'm scared of no one," Lily reached over the sink picking up a wet cloth, "But you'd want to sort your face out, or you'll scar." She could hear the sound of a car pulling up.

Lincoln pulled Vincent Sandinsky into the apartment; he could see Lily standing by Bagwell. He felt nervous for a second, but knew she could take care of herself.

Lily stood by the kitchen; she didn't really want to listen to them interrogating the man who seemed like a total loser. She inhaled through her nose before out her mouth, she couldn't think, but her phone ringing caught her off guard.

"Lily…" Michael's voice made her sit up, "I need to talk to you…"

For a second Lily could only hear Lincoln talking to Sandinsky, then her attention back to the phone, "Whatever Sara said, she's full of shit!"

"Lil this is about Sandinsky…" He froze for a moment, "What are you talking about?"

"Nothing," Lily felt nervous, "Nothing, just stress." She took a deep breathe, "What about this nerd?"

"I have his phone, and on it is a series of emails between Christina and him, and I think they know each other very well…" He paused for a moment, "And don't nerd shame."

"Well you're still my favourite nerd." Lily smiled into the phone, "I'll let Linc know." Lily stopped herself; she knew she couldn't talk to Michael about being pregnant.

"Look after him Lily," Michael spoke before hanging up the phone.

She exhaled walking towards the other, she touched Lincoln's shoulder, she whispered into his ear, "He knows Christina, Michael just called and told me…"

Lincoln froze for a second, "Is that what he told you?" His eyes were going to Sandinsky, "You're lying, you're lying." He got into the other man's face.

Lily listened to the voices raising to be heard, she could only see Lincoln pulling the gun to Sandinsky's face, her throat went tight again, she couldn't see this side of Lincoln, it hurt her too much, her eyes closed for a moment waiting to hear the shot of a gun.

"Burrows!" The General's voice broke the madness, "Put the gun down!"
