Nest

Jackie walked in to the front room of her family's home after finishing work, and picked up Bella who wrapped her tiny arms around her neck. Looking around she raised an eyebrow at her husband for him to explain the change in the room.

"She decided to make a nest out of cushions and really anything she could lay her hands on."

"If it's supposed to be a nest surely it should be messy?"

"But she's your daughter so there is technically not a thing out of place."

Kissing Bella on the cheek she held her put in front and started to speak to her daughter, "I bet daddy was playing with this instead of washing up, wasn't he?"

"Daddy had to help her or else she would have ended up under the couch or something." Robbie answered as he brought her a glass of white wine and a can.

Hours later the nine month old girl was still roaming around the room, finding new things to move around and causing a distraction for her parents. Robbie and Jackie never got a moment to themselves these days and although they would not change their lives now that they had her, sometimes they wished for just a few moments when Bella would be a perfect child who would play and sleep contentedly without having to have their attention.

Eventually when it was late enough to have a viable excuse for putting her to bed Robbie did the honours as always. Dragging Bella away from her construction had been left to him as he could make her calmer when she was not getting her own way, exactly the opposite of what happened when Robbie tried the same on his wife.

When he returned to the living room he found Jackie lying on her back amongst the soft toys and furnishings.

"It's quite nice lying here like this."

"I don't know who acts like the other out of you and Bella." He muttered, avoiding a slap as he joined her on the black carpeted flooring.

"It's a good thing you love us both equally then, isn't it?"

"I don't know about that," he said with a smirk.

"Are you being sarcastic to me Mr Ross?" She challenged, turning around before straddling his body.

"Of course not. You act as though I can't function without you." He said as he tried to release his hands from her grasp.

"Oh, you can't though love," leaning down she kissed him on the mouth as her hand kept his arms above his head.

They felt a little weird going any further in an area that was so dominated by their child - hence why they were yet to have sex in the nursery - so he pulled her up to her feet and moved to their own bedroom, his fingers lacing through hers as they attempted to ignore the fact it would take them hours to tidy in the morning.
