"Clara, would you just hurry up! Table five have been waiting for ten minutes to order now! How stupid are you?" I give a look of sympathy to my boss as i hurry back out to the tables. It was a particularly bad day at work, i had been shouted at for most of it and i was exhausted after a grueling eight hour shift. I run back into the kitchen, armed with orders, "Sorry, i'm going as fast as i can." I say, grabbing drinks to take out to the tables. "Well it's not good enough is it? What do you think i pay you for? I can easily replace you." My boss grunts at me, as she stands across a table from me, watching my every move.
Then something happens.
"Go on then!" I shout back, "Replace me then! I've had enough, I've been here for four years, worked overtime nearly everyday, smiled and greeted every single customer, taken orders perfectly and you've never even so much thanked me or talked to me with any respect!" I blurt out, silencing the whole kitchen. I take the glass of wine in front of me and chuck it all over my boss, who gives me the most horrified and shocked look.
Without another word, i rip off my apron and grab my bag and coat from the hook in the corner and walk straight out there.
A huge grin breaks out across my face and i walk outside and i am met by a huge thunderstorm, immediately soaked to the bone. But i barely care as i walk through the car park and back home. I pull my thin jacket further up, trying my best to keep out the rain and jump every now and then as a clap of thunder erupts.
It's not until i'm half way home when i see another person, standing in the distance. I keep hurrying along, assuming that anyone standing out in this rain, at ten at night in my village must be crazy. Then i get closer, and i see that the person is looking at me and to my horror they are starting to run towards me. My heart beats at a crazy pace, as if it is about to leap out of my chest. I look around me for help, but there is nobody else, just a figure getting closer and closer in the darkness.
I'm about to get out my phone to call for help, when i hear something. "Clara! Clara!" I look up, shaking with fear and coldness. "Clara! Wait!" The person yells, and i actually stop walking and stand still. I don't know why but i do. And then it clicks.
He reaches me just as i realise who it is and i fall into his arms, as he holds me tightly, his breathing loud and warm. "What are you doing here?" I say into his upper body, still hugging. He pulls back and puts his hands on my shoulders, looking into my eyes. "I left her Clara, she's gone. I know how much of an idiot I've been and i'm so so sorry, but as soon as i ended it with her and i jumped onto the first train to get to you." But i stop listening after the first sentence and i lean up and kiss him.
Suddenly i am hit with a explosion of joy. The world is once again warm, bright and welcoming. My lips feel so good against his, he pulls me tight towards him and i feel as though nothing will ever end this kiss. I would die happy if i was to drop down at that moment.
"Dan...why me?" I find myself asking him, "Why me out of all the hundreds of girls who adore you?" He looks down at me, with a look of utter love and warmth. "Because, it was always you."
