"Peggy, can we talk?" Steve asked as he invited her into his suite.

"Of course." she answered as she entered and sat down on the couch.

"Peggy, last night, I proposed to Natasha. She accepted."

Peggy stiffened a little but forced a smile onto her face.

"Congratulations." she said. "When will the wedding be?"

"We haven't decided yet. But, I wanted to tell you personally and I hope there isn't any tention between us or with Natasha."

Peggy reached over and took his hand.

"I'm not fond of the idea of losing the man I love to someone else but I know there's nothing I can do. I have to accept that things have changed and that you were able to move on. I'm happy for you, Steve."

Steve gave her a small smile. He knew that she would never be completely accepting of his relationship with Natasha and things would never be truly ok between all of them.

When Steve popped the question to Natasha, he knew very well that he was turning away from his first love and everything they could have had together.

The obvious romantic bond they knew would last decades, the family they wanted to start and the promise of always sharing the rest of their lives together.

But Natasha is the one who truly owns his heart now. She didn't tease Steve's emotions with questionable thoughts.

The moment she and Steve knew how they felt about each other, they never failed to share as many moments together as they could and they always told each other of their love before they left for a mission or just left for an hour.

Now Steve is going to devote the rest of his life to the woman who brought out a whole new side of him.

"Steve, is there really nothing I can do to change your mind and try to give 'us' a chance?" Peggy asked.

"I'm sorry, Peggy." Steve said with a sad tone. "I know that we could be really great together but I know what I want. That's to marry Natasha and to possibly start a family with her. She's brought out sides of me I didn't think were there before."

"I understand." Peggy said. "I'm sorry that things couldn't have worked out the way that we wanted to."

"I am too." Steve said.

He really was sorry that things couldn't have worked out the way they both had hoped. He figured that the possible future he had wanted with Peggy was just never meant to be.

"There's still one thing we can do together. Regardless if I'm married or not." Steve said and moved to play music on his vintage record player. A second later, the music the two were use to hearing filled the room.

Steve went back to Peggy and offered a hand.

The brunette woman wasn't sure she wanted this but decided she shouldn't be bitter toward anything. Least of all Steve.

She reached out and took his hand. They stood in the middle of the room and were finally having the dance they'd waited more than seventy years for.
