Ch 14: Electric Shock showdown.
It had been almost two weeks since the group had left Cerulean city and now they had finally reached Vermillion city.
"We made it." Ash said.
"Finally, it's been two weeks." Serena said.
"I finally get a chance to battle the gym leader here." Ash said.
"And I get a chance to perform in another showcase." Serena said.
"Uh guys, before we do any of that maybe we should heat to the pokemon center." Brock said.
"Right, I want to make sure you guys are ok to battle." Ash said. A few minutes later the group made their way to the pokemon center.
"Here's my pokemon too." Serena said as she placed her 3 pokeballs in front of Nurse Joy.
"I'll have a look at them" Nurse Joy said. She was about to pick them when Brock came over and grabbed her hands.
"Such beauty and grace, my heart soars" Brock said before Lucy grabbed him by the ear and pulled him back.
"And I'm grounding it." She said.
Serena and Ash sat down at a table beside Brock and Lucy.
"So who is the gym leader here anyway?" Ash asked.
"Well his name is Surge, or as he prefers to be called Colonel Surge, the Lightning American." Brock said.
"American, what does that mean?" Serena asked.
"I'm really not sure. Anyway he's an Colonel in the army and was suppose to be a hero in the special forces. His gym is actually located inside the army base here in Vermillion city. " Brock said.
"If he's an army Colonel then he certainly won't be an easy opponent." Ash said.
"That's an understatement, from what I hear he won't even accept opponents unless he deems them worthy of his time." Lucy said.
"He sounds like a great guy." Serena said.
"Hey Serena didn't you say your dad was an Army officer?" Brock asked.
"He still is an officer in the Kalos army, my mom actually called me two days ago and told me he was promoted to Brigadier General." Serena said.
"Really." Lucy said.
"Ash did you know?" Brock asked.
"She told me right after it happened." Ash said.
"You know we've been traveling on the road for 2 weeks now and we just got here. Vermillion city is suppose to have a really good beach. Why don't we relax a little before going to the gym." Brock said.
"The beach sounds good." Lucy said.
"Yeah , I have a new bathing suit I've been wanting to try." Serena said.
"Alright I wouldn't mind some time on the beach before the gym battle." Ash said. Ash and Brock went into the men's room and changed into their swimming trunks. Pikachu was standing on Ash's shoulder.
"So Ash with Squirtle that means you have 6 pokemon with you." Brock said.
"I guess it does, which means any pokemon I catch will go back to to Professor Sycamore." Ash said.
"They'll be a long way from home." Brock said.
"That's true, maybe I should switch them over to professor Oak's lab while I'm here." Ash said.
"Especially if you plan on becoming a Kanto elite four. You'll probably end up living here." Brock said.
It was at that moment Ash realized he hadn't thought about that at all. If he became a member of the Kanto elite four, he would be moving back to Kanto. He didn't mind this, in fact he liked the idea of moving back to his home region.
The only problem was Serena. Could he get here to leave behind her home and live in Kanto. The truth was that if he had to choose between Serena or the elite four he already knew who he was going to pick.
He turned to Pikachu who nodded to him.
"Alright we're ready to go." Serena said as she and Lucy came out. Ash and Brock turned to see them both in their bathing suits.
Serena's was a light magenta bikini with black blade like leaf shapes on the top and bottom. Lucy's was a dark blue and yellow.
Ash and Brock's eyes widened as they noticed the size of the girl's bikinis were a bit smaller than expected.
Pikachu turned and saw Ash and Brock's faces had turned completely red.
"Pika." He said waving his hand in front of Ash's face.
"Oh uh right, let's go." Ash said. He turned to Brock who was still standing there with the same expression.
"Brock?" Ash said.
Lucy gave a slight smile.
"Best 40 bucks I ever spent." She said to herself. A few minutes later the group was at the beach. As the sun glistened off the water and lit up the white sand. The beach was moderately filled with trainers and other beach goers.
The group had let each of their pokemon out to enjoy the beach with them.
Charizard was laying in the sand enjoying the heat and sunlight. Charla noticed this and slowly moved closer to him. Charizard knew she was trying to get closer to him, but after the harsh training session he had with Ash that morning he just wanted to lay in the soft sand. If she wanted to move closer to him, he could humor her, so long as she didn't try anything.
Bulbasaur and Pikachu were trying to make a small sand sculpture of Nidoran as she lay in the sand behind them.
"Bulba." Bulbasaur said as he padded the sand with his vines. Moments later Squirtle burst out of the water near the wake, causing water to splash all over Pikachu, Bulbasaur, and their sand sculpture.
"Saur!" Bulbasaur shouted at Squirtle.
"Squirtle." Squirtle said saying that it was funner in the water and playing in the sand was stupid.
"Bulba." Bulbasaur said growling as he whipped his vines out and wrapped them Squirtle before dragging him out of the water.
Squirtle dug his feet into the sand then used all his might to pull himself forward and back into the water. As a result Bulbasaur was dragged into the water with him.
"Pika." Pikachu said smiling as he rubbed the back of his head.
Squirtle and Bulbasaur weren't the only ones in the water though. A few yards away Serena was standing in the water. She felt something moving beneath her and looked down before something grabbed her leg and dragged her under the water.
Moments later she came up in Ash's arms.
"Gotcha again." He said. Serena gave a sly smile.
"Oh yeah." She said before she pushed herself off him and landed in the water. Before Ash could do anything else, Serena grabbed his legs and pulled them back with all her strength.
"Woah." Ash said as he fell backwards and into the water.
When he tried to get back up Serena nearly tackled him as she came onto him and pressed her lips onto his. As a result Ash's head nearly went underwater again.
When he came back up he grabbed Serena by her rump and lifted her up as she wrapped her arms around his shoulders and her legs around his waist.
Their faces met as they stared deeply into each other's eyes.
"I love you." She said.
"I love you too." Ash said. Their lips met and they remained locked together for almost a minute before Ash remembered about the problem he had thought about with them and if she would live in Kanto with him.
When Ash and Serena moved their heads back, Serena noticed a concerned look on his face.
"Ash is everything alright?" Serena asked.
"Serena, there's something we need to talk about. It's actually quite important." Ash started before he and Serena were both hit by a water gun.
They turned to see Squirtle in the water a few feet away with a mischievous smile on his face.
"Great, first Totodile and now Squirtle. What is with your water pokemon." Serena said.
Back on the beach Lucy was sunbathing on a towel with Brock a few feet away from her. She could tell Brock was staring at her and gave an inner sigh.
" I can get him to drool over me but I can't tell him how I feel." Lucy said to herself.
"Hey Brock, I think I forgot to put sunscreen on my back. Would you mind?" Lucy asked.
"Yes! I will!" Brock almost shouted as he rushed over. Lucy turned to her back as Brock shook before he slowly rubbed sunscreen onto her back.
She gave an slightly uneasy look before speaking again.
"So Brock what was it like growing up in Pewter city?".
"It was ok, but not that exciting." Brock said.
"What do you mean?" Lucy asked.
"Don't get me wrong my life there was great. It's just, that there wasn't too much to do there, I suppose there was the museum where I could sometimes go to study up on the biology of ancient pokemon. But my dad kept me on a bit of a short leash, trying to mold me into the ultimate gym leader." Brock said.
"Did you have many friends?" Lucy asked.
"Aside from my siblings there weren't many people there who shared my common interests. I didn't have many friends, or meaningful relationships ." Brock said.
Lucy gave another nervous look.
"Hey Brock, have you ever been in a relationship before. Like a romantic relationship?" Lucy asked.
"Well the truth is I've always dreamed of finding my true love. But my affection hasn't exactly helped me. You know the way I am around girls, around you sometimes. I get so caught up in the moment I act like a fool . That doesn't exactly help me get a girlfriend." Brock said.
"Huh." Lucy said.
"So what about your past relationships?" Brock asked.
"Well." Lucy said sounding slightly shamed.
""Sigh" The truth is I'ver never actually dated anyone before." Lucy said.
"What? But you're such a beautiful, nice, charming, and amazing young woman. How could you not have dated before?" Brock said.
"Well my sister's claiming I was a queen and yelling at any boy who came at me certainly didn't help. Another problem was that back when I was still learning how to use my aura properly I looked at people through their aura and was only able to focus on their faults. This made me estranged from many people, especially romantically. By the time I learned how to control my aura, I tried to find someone but by then I was a frontier Brian and most of the boys who approached me that way just saw me as a prize, "Oh I'm dating a frontier Brian."" She said before laying her head back onto the towel.
"The truth is I guess I've just never had the chance for a real relationship with someone I can really connect with." Lucy said.
"Lucy , you have to get past those things. I mean I've been through some rough patches, but I'm always ready to find love. Look at yourself, any man would be lucky to be with you." Brock said.
Lucy blushed before she came up and met him face to face.
"Thank you Brock."
Brock's face turned red before he took her hands.
"I would be blessed to have you my love." Brock said with stars in his eyes.
Lucy gave a slight smile again as her face stayed red.
Back in the water Ash stood by Serena with Squirtle in his arms.
"Alright Squirtle do you promise to stop squirting us?" Ash said.
"Squirtle." He said nodding.
As soon as Ash let him go, Squirtle blasted them both with a water gun before swimming off.
"Alright, Serena we need to talk about something important now." Ash said.
"Ok, what's on your mind." Serena started before a wave smashed into them both.
As they got up Serena yelped in pain.
"Serena are you ok?" Ash said.
"Something's bitting me!" She shouted.
"Where on your legs?" Ash said.
"No my butt!" Serena shouted.
"What?" Ash said as his face turned red.
"Something's in my bottom! What is it?" Serena said as she pulled her bottom down.
"Well I?" Ash said nervously.
"Just look!" Serena shouted sounding irritated. Ash shook as he slowly lowered his head and looked at Serena's bottom.
His eyes widened as he saw none other a small Krabby with his claws latched onto Serena's cheeks.
"Uh Serena, it's a Krabby." Ash said.
"I don't care what it is, just get it off!" Serena shouted. Ash slowly moved his hands onto the Krabby's claws and tried to pry them open, but the Krappy wouldn't budge.
Ash thought about maybe having Pikachu give him a small shock, but in the water that could seriously hurt them all.
Perhaps if they went on land, Charizard could pry the claws open. And have Serena's bikini bottom pulled down in front of everyone.
Ash sweat dropped."Maybe I could talk via aura message" Ash said before he had another idea.
"Squirtle get over here." Ash said.
Squirtle swam over to Ash before noticing the Krabby on Serena's bum.
"Squir." He snickered as he covered his mouth to keep himself from laughing.
"Squirtle this is serious I need you to do something for me." Ash said as he told Squirtle what to do via aura message.
"Squirtle." Squirtle said nodding.
"Hurry!" Serena shouted. Squirtle sprinted across the sand and over to Ash's bag. He reached his head inside the bag. He dug around a bit before coming up with something in his mouth.
Squirtle quickly ran back into the water and swam back to Ash.
When he reached Ash he handed his trainer a pokeball.
"Alright thank's Squirtle." Ash said as he took the pokeball and touched it to the Krabby, sending the pokemon inside.
Serena felt the pain in her rear end go away as the Krabby was put in the pokeball.
Ash held the pokeball as it shook and flashed. A minute later it stopped revealing Krabby was caught.
"Alright I caught a Krabby." Ash said. Moments later the pokeball vanished as it was transported to professor Sycamore.
"You caught it?" Serena said as she turned to him.
"Well I got him off didn't I." Ash said sweat dropping.
Serena sighed.
"I guess you did." Serena said before she put her arms around Ash and kissed him. Ash lifted Serena up by her rump again when they both realized that Serena had not pulled her bikini bottom back up.
Both their faces turned completely red.
Later that day the group was back at the pokemon center having lunch. Ash also called professor Sycamore to check up on his new Krabby.
"Professor did he arrive their alright?" Ash asked.
"He arrived just fine, he's enjoying the water in the enclosure right now." Sycamore said.
"Professor I was actually thinking. Since I'm here in Kanto maybe you could send my pokemon over to Oak's lab. It would certainly make it easier to get them from transportation here in Kanto. Besides if I make the elite four." Ash started.
"I understand Ash, I'll contact Oak and let him know" Sycamore started before they both heard a cry of pain. Sycamore turned to see none other than a Pancham running around with Krabby latched onto his tough.
"Oh no." Sycamore said.
"Krabby let go of him!" Ash shouted over the phone.
"Pika!" Pikachu also shouted over the phone
"Pancham please calm down!" Sycamore shouted franticly as he ran after him. Ash and Pikachu sweat dropped.
Ash walked back over to the table where the others were and let Pikachu onto the table.
"So how's your new Krabby doing?" Brock asked.
"He's latched onto another pokemon's tongue." Ash said sweat dropping.
"Figures." Serena said as she rubbed her still sore behind.
"So now that we've had our fun at the beach, should we head over to the gym?" Lucy asked.
"Well actually." Ash started.
"Saur!" . Bulbasaur shouted.
"Squir!" Squirtle shouted.
"Otto!".
"Free!". Butterfree and Pigeotto shouted.
Ash could feel how excited his pokemon were for a chance of battling at the gym. He knew he had to speak with Serena about their situation if Ash reached the elite four, but he know if could wait until after the gym battle.
"Alright let's head down there." Ash said.
After their pokemon finished lunch. The group made their way to the Kanto army base near the edge of the water.
At the security entrance they saw a guard gate with a pair of men in ACU combat uniforms, kevlar body armor, and black berets on their heads. Each soldier had an M4 carbine in their arms. Between them was a large Nidoking wearing a set of black armor plates over his body.
When they saw the group approaching one brought his hand up signaling them to stop.
"Halt, state your business.".
"I'm here to challenge Surge to a gym battle." Ash said.
"We have to check you for weapons, for security purposes." The other soldier said. The first soldier lead them inside the security gate where another two soldiers took out some metal detectors.
Ash and Lucy had left their hidden blades back at the pokemon center, knowing it wouldn't be good to be discovered with concealed weapons on a military base. After the soldiers did a proper search they found nothing threatening.
"Alright you may enter, the Colonel's gym is on the east side of the base near the barracks." The security Sgt said.
The gate opened and the group walked inside the base. The base interior was very large, with dozens of Kanto soldiers and army moving throughout the base.
Ash also noticed a group of soldiers escorting a trio of rocket grunts who were handcuffed.
"Looks like the army is cracking down on team rocket." Ash said.
"Good to know." Lucy said.
Ash noticed that one of there was a fourth rocket member being escorted through the base in handcuffs. However, his uniform look much more expensive and well tailored. It was white with a black pocket protector and red R on it. The man had very light blue hair and blue eyes.
"Who is that?" Ash asked.
A few minutes later they reached a large building near the barracks with a pokemon league symbol beside a Kanto army symbol.
"I guess this is it." Ash said. They walked inside the gym onto to find the room was dark.
"Why aren't any lights on?" Serena asked. Moments later a few lights revealed soldiers standing in the center of the room.
"What do we got here?" One said.
"I think we have some challengers for the colonel , Sergeant." Another soldier said.
"I think you're right captain." Another soldier said.
"I am here to challenge Surge to a gym battle." Ash said.
"That's Colonel Surge." The captain said as her face turned more serious.
Moments later a door behind them opened as another soldier walked in.
"Room ten hut!" One of the soldiers shouted. All 4 soldiers quickly snapped to the position of attention. Ash and the others watched as the 5th soldier slowly approached them. The man had light skin with blueish black eyes and spiky blonde hair. They also noticed that the man had several scars and burn marks on his face.
The man was also massive, he stood over 6 feet tall and was bulging in muscles. On in the center of his army combat uniform was a symbol of a black eagle. On the left shoulder of the uniform were 2 tabs, one said ranger, the other above it said special forces.
The man reached a few feet in front of Ash and stopped.
"As you were." He said in a very powerful voice. His men relaxed from the position of attention.
"So which of you has come to challenge me." Colonel Surge said.
"I have." Ash said as he stepped forward.
"Welcome then to the Vermillion city gym. I am Colonel Surge, The Lightning American." He said.
"Uh excuse me, I was actually wondering what American meant." Brock started.
"So how experienced of a trainer are you young man? I only accept gym battles from trainers who are worthy of my skill level." Surge said.
"I have 3 badges, and I've competed in the NPC." Ash said.
"H'mm impressive." Surge said before he noticed Pikachu on Ash's shoulder.
"That Pikachu, how long have you had him?" Surge asked.
"Pikachu was my first pokemon, we've been together for over 5 years." Ash said.
"What!?" Surge shouted sounding dumbfounded.
"Is something wrong?" Ash asked.
"Yes there is, I'm afraid I must deny your request for a gym battle." Surge said.
"What!?" Everyone in the group said.
"Pika!?" Pikachu said in confusion as well.
"Why won't you battle Ash?!" Serena shouted at Surge with an angry expression.
"Simple really, any trainer who has a pokemon for 5 years and hasn't evolved them is not worthy of my skills." Surge said.
"Are you saying you won't battle me because I haven't evolved my Pikachu." Ash said sounding irritated.
"That's exactly what I'm saying son." Surge said.
"You can't do that." Serena said.
"I'm the gym leader, I make the rules." Surge said.
"Refusing to battle him because he didn't evolve his Pikachu. What kind of gym leader are you?" Brock said sounding offended.
"You show respect for the Colonel!" One of the soldiers shouted.
"He's a war hero, he's got 3 purple hearts, a bronze star, a silver star, and a medal of honor. He's done more that you could ever do son!" The captain shouted at Brock.
"You know my father's a soldier too, he's a general in the Kalos army and he'd be disappointed in how you act." Serena said.
"Tell you what son, I'll make you a deal." Surge said as he reached into his combat trousers pocket and then tossed it to Ash.
Ash quickly caught it and saw it was a Thunderstone.
"Evolve your Pikachu and I'll accept your challenge." Surge said.
"My Pikachu doesn't want to evolve , he likes being a Pikachu. I'm not going to force him to evolve just so I can battle you." Ash said.
"Then there's something wrong with your Pikachu son, all pokemon want to evolve." Surge said.
"Well forget it, I'm not forcing Pikachu to evolve." Ash said.
"Well think about it son, it's the only way I'm going to battle you." Surge said.
Ash and the others turned their backs on Surge and his soldiers before walking out of the gym.
"Too bad, I was looking forward to you destroying another trainer sir." The sergeant said.
"Don't worry Sergeant, he'll be back. I could see it in his eyes." Surge said. Back at the pokemon center Brock, Serena, and Lucy sat at a table.
"I can't believe he refused to battle Ash unless he evolves Pikachu." Serena said.
"That's not very good conduct for a gym leader, even if he is a war hero." Brock said.
"Hey where is Ash?" Serena asked noticing he wasn't there.
"He said he was heading to a high area above the city to synchronize his aura with the area. Take it from me , that can really help a guardian clear their mind." Lucy said.
"So where exactly did he go?" Serena asked.
Ash and Pikachu sat on a ridge overlooking the city. Ash had already climbed to the top of the tree and synchronized his aura to the area. It helped hm clear his mind a little, but no too much.
His experience with Surge reminded him and Pikachu of their battles with Anton back in Kalos. How he told Ash he needed to evolve Pikachu as well. The thing was he didn't evolve Pikachu then and neither him nor Pikachu wanted to do it now.
Ash and Pikachu stayed on the ridge when Ash felt a familiar aura approach them.
"Sont vous bien ma aimer." Ash heard.
He gave a slight smile.
"Alright you know hearing you speak Kalos always cheers me up." Ash said. Serena came up behind him and then gave him a short kiss.
"I found this at the base of the ridge." Serena said holding a thunderstone.
"I tossed it off the ridge, I don't plan on using it now or ever." Ash said.
"That's your choice and the right one Ash. Colonel Surge is wrong." Serena said.
"I know my pokemon have been looking forward to this, but it's not worth it. There are other gyms out there, I don't have to battle here." Ash said as he rubbed the side of Pikachu's head.
"You know you don't have to feel bad about not battling him. But I feel there's something else bothering you." Serena said as she put her arm around Ash's shoulder.
Ash sighed.
"It just reminds me of Anton back in Kalos." Ash said. Serena then remembered the Kalos aura guardian who also insisted on Ash evolving Pikachu.
"I remember that, how much you didn't want to evolve him. Do you remember what you did?" Serena said.
"I beat him without evolving Pikachu." Ash said.
"You're already past this Ash, you have no need to fester over this when you've already proven him wrong before." Serena said.
Ash gave a smile with Pikachu.
"You're right Serena. After everything Pikachu and I have been through , the opinion of one gym leader doesn't mean anything to me." Ash said.
"Ash it seemed like there was something you wanted to tell me earlier back on the beach." Serena said.
"Right were were interrupted by Krabby." Ash said as Serena blushed slightly.
"I'd rather not talk about that." Serena said.
"Why not, I found it a very found memory. I got a new pokemon and we had a special moment together." Ash said smiling as Pikachu chuckled slightly before they noticed a stern look on her face.
"Sorry." Ash said as he and Pikachu sweat dropped and gave serious faces.
"Anyway, Brock and I were talking about moving my pokemon from professor Sycamore's lab to Oak's while where in Kanto. That way I can stay closer to them." Ash said.
"That sounds like a good idea." Serena said.
"That's when Brock made me realize something. If everything goes right and I do make it in the elite four here, then that means I'll have to start my life over back here in Kanto again. What about you, Kalos is your home, where your family is, where you grew up. Would you be willing to leave all that behind to live in Kanto?" Ash said.
That was when Serena realized she had not thought about that what so ever. She had been excited about Ash making the elite four, and she had taken a liking to Kanto. But to leave behind her home, her family, all of her friends. The culture she had grown up with, that wasn't an easy thing to ask.
Ash could see the look of unsureness in Serena's expression and put his hands on her shoulders.
"Serena I want to make something clear to you. This position in the elite four is not more important to me than you are. I love you, and would never ask you to leave everything behind to live here because of me. If you don't want to live here, then I'm not living her either. I can go back to the NPC, maybe someday I can make it in the Kalos elite four." Ash said.
Serena came forward and kissed Ash.
"Ash I love you so much." She said before hugging him tightly.
"But I can't be selfish either, you making it into the elite four is far more important than me just wanting to be comfortable with a place I'm familiar with. This his been your dream for most of your life,I want you to fulfill it. I want it more than anything. Ash I'll follow you to the ends of the earth. Besides I've taken a liking to Kanto, it might not be so bad living here." Serena said.
"Thank you so much Serena, you don't know how relieved I am to hear you say that." Ash said as he hugged her back.
Pikachu and Serena could both feel how uplifted Ash felt through their aura connections with him.
"You know what, I'm going to do it." Ash said.
"Do what?" Serena asked.
" Tomorrow I'm going to challenge Surge to a battle, and he will battle me without me evolving Pikachu." Ash said.
"Why would he do that?" Serena asked.
"I just know he will. I'm feeling really good and I just know he'll accept my challenge." Ash said sounding very confident.
"I'm glad your feeling better Ash." Serena said.
"Pika." Pikachu said.
"I'm feeling great!" Ash said as he swept Sereana off her feet and kissed her passionately. Her face turned read as Ash held her in his arms.
"Wow." She said to herself.
After a good nights sleep and breakfast, the group got up and went back to the army base.
Ash and Pikachu looped up at the gym's pokemon league symbol for a moment before walking in.
Once inside he saw Colonel Surge with the same 4 soldiers he was with the day before.
"Well look who's back sir." The Corporal said.
"And he hasn't evolved his Pikachu." The captain said.
"What's going on son, I told you I wouldn't accept your challenge unless you evolved your Pikachu." Surge said.
"Here's the thing Colonel, my Pikachu has proven he doesn't need to evolve to be as strong as any Raichu. Why do I know this, because he's beaten a Raichu that had been trained just as long as he had. You may not believe it, but Pikachu is capable of facing any pokemon the way he is. I came back here for a gym battle and I'm not leaving without one." Ash said sounding firm.
Serena blushed a little, seeing as be like this.
"Be careful how you talk son, you're on a Kanto army base." The sergeant started before Surge raised his hand signaling him to stop.
"Persistence, loyalty, and determination. Good qualities son, you'd make a decent soldier. Alright, if you want to prove me wrong then I'll give you the chance." Surge said.
"Pika!" Pikachu said sounding excited.
Ash stood on one end of the gym's battlefield while Colonel Surge stood on the other. Serena and the rest of the group were watching on the left side of the battlefield while the other soldiers stood on the right side.
The captain was in the center of the side of the battlefield.
"The battle between Colonel Surge and challenger Ash Ketchum is about to begin. The battle will be a two on two, and only the challenger is allowed to swap out pokemon." The captain said.
"Alright Electabuzz, front and center!" Colonel Surge shouted as he hurled a cameo pokeball forward. A large Electabuzz came out and sparked electricity from his antennas before flexing his arms.
"Electa." He growled.
"Alright I choose you Bulbasaur!" Ash shouted. Bulbasaur came out of his pokeball and stood in an aggressive stance in front of Ash.
"Electabuzz use Thunderbolt!" Surge shouted.
"Bulbasaur use Razor leaf into Vine whip." Ash said. Electabuzz sparked his antennas before unleashed a massive bolt of electricity at Bulbasaur.
"Saur!" Bulbasaur shouted as he unleashed a series of leaves that cut through the incoming Thunderbolt. Most were burt up, but some continued towards Electabuzz.
"Brace yourself!" Surge shouted. His Electabuzz held his arms up and braced himself as a few leaves raked across him. Despite being hit, Electabuzz held his stand and brought his arms back out as Bulbasaur's vines flew at him. Electabuzz stepped forward and made sure the vines wrapped around his arms.
"Drag him over." Surge said His Electrabuzz hurled himself back and hurled Bulbasaur right at him.
"Screech!".
"Buzz!" Electabuzz roared at Bulbasaur, causing his defenses to drop drastically.
"Leech seed into Tackle!" Ash shouted. As Bulbasaur continued to fly at Electabuzz, he aimed his bud and fired a seed at Electabuzz. The seed hit Electabuzz and began to drain his energy.
Moments later Bulbasaur slammed his head into Electabuzz's chest.
"Alright Ash is doing it!" Serena said sounding excited.
"Electabuzz Break free!" Surge shouted.
Electabuzz raised his arms up and tore the leech seed's roots off himself.
"Charge at him!" Surge shouted.
"Electa!" Electabuzz shouted as he charged right at Bulbasaur.
"Bulbasaur use Razor leaf and aim low." Ash said.
"Saur!" Bulbasaur shouted as unleashed a barrage of leaves at Electabuzz's legs.
"Leap over them!" Surge shouted. Electabuzz leapt up and over the leaves doing a front flip.
"Vine whip!" Ash shouted. Bulbasaur unleashed his vines right at Electabuzz.
"Down now!" Surge shouted. His Electabuzz came down down just in time to slam his feet into Bulbasaur's vines.
"Screech!" Surge shouted.
"Buzz!" Electabuzz shouted as he lowered Bulbasaur's defenses.
"Leech seed!" Ash shouted.
"Saur!" Bulbasaur shouted as he opened his spore and unleashed another Leech seed. Before Electabuzz could even react the seed hit him and sprouted around him, sapping his energy.
"Hyper beam!" Surge shouted.
"Razor leaf!" Ash shouted.
"Saur!" Bulbasaur shouted as he unleashed a barrage of leaves that raked across Electabuzz's body.
"Elect," Electabuzz grunted as the pain from the leaves and seed took its toll on him.
"Buzz!" He roared as he burst out of the Leech seed and unleashed a massive beam of energy right at Bulbasaur.
"Bulbasaur look out!" Ash shouted. Bulbasaur tried to move, but was too late. The Hyperbeam hit Bulbsaur and hurled him back before exploding.
When the smoke cleared Bulbasaur was laying on the ground unconscious.
"Bulbasaur is unable to battle." The captain said.
"Outstanding Electabuzz." Colonel Surge said.
"Bulbasaur return, you battled well. Alright Pikachu show the Colonel what you can do." Ash said.
"Pika!" Pikachu said as he sparked his cheeks and leapt down in front of Ash.
"Electabuzz use Thunderbolt!". Surge shouted.
"Dodge and use Quick attack!" Ash shouted. As Electabuzz unleashed a Thunderbolt , Pikachu moved out of the attack's path as quick as a flash of lighting. He then sprinted forward and slammed his head into Electabuzz's stomach, making him stumble backwards.
"Iron tail!" Ash shouted. Before Surge could call out another command, Pikachu leapt up and slammed his now metal tail across Electabuzz's face, hurling him into the ground.
"Buzz." Electabuzz said as he lay on the ground with swirly eyes.
"Electabuzz is unable to battle." The captain said.
"Alright great job Pikachu!" Serena shouted.
"Electabuzz return, rest up soldier. Alright son your skills impress me. You say your Pikacu has beaten a Raichu before. Well then, how about another shot. Raichu front and center!" Surge shouted.
Ash and Pikachu's eyes widened as they saw a large Raichu come out and spark his cheeks. This Raichu looked even larger and more powerful than Anton's Raichu.
"You have a Raichu?" Ash asked.
"Raichu is my oldest and most loyal soldier. I didn't earn all those medals on my own." Surge said.
"Chu." Raichu said as he sparked his cheeks again.
"Alright , we can do this Pikachu." Ash said.
"Chu!" Pikachu said as he sparked his cheeks.
"Raichu use Thunder!".
"Chu!" Rich shouted as he he sparked his cheeks and unleashed a massive bolt of electricity right at Pikachu.
"Pikachu dodge and use Quick attack." Ash said.
"Pika." Pikachu said as he quickly sprinted forward and moved out of the Thunder's path.
"Iron tail!" Ash shouted.
"Iron tail!" Surge shouted. As Pikachu leapt up and raised his tail, Surge's Raichu raised his own tail and blocked Pikachu's strike.
"Brick Break." Surge shouted.
"Dodge into slam!" Ash shouted. As Raichu came in with his paws, Pikachu pushed off him and did a backflip just in time to avoid his opponent's strike. Once he was on the ground, Pikachu leapt forward and slammed his head into Raichu's stomach.
"Rich body slam!" Surge shouted. Raichu shifted his weight forward and hurled Pikachu off him before hurling himself forward at Pikachu.
" Quick attack!" Ash shouted.
As Raichu came down at him, Pikachu leapt up and hit Raichu in the lower section of his body. Raichu continued moving towards the ground as Pikachu continued to move up.
"Dig!" Surge shouted. As soon as Raichu hit the ground he quickly began burrowing his way underground.
"Oh no." Ash said. Since Pikachu was in mid air, there was nothing he could do to avoid Raichu when he came up.
"Pikachu get ready to move!" Ash shouted. Just before Pikachu could hit the ground, Raichu burst up and out of the ground, smashing into Pikachu and dealing a lot of damage.
"Body slam!" Surge shouted. While Pikachu was still in the air and trying to recover from the Ground attack, Raichu leapt up and slammed his much larger body into Pikachu, burying him into the ground.
"Pikachu!" Serena shouted.
"Surge isn't making this easy for Ash." Brock said.
"He can beat him, Go Pikchu!" Serena shouted.
"Finish him with Brick Break." Surge said.
Right raised his arms and prepared to smash Pikachu who was still pinned below him.
"Pikachu Thunder Everything you have!" Ash shouted.
"Pika." Pikachu said growling as his cheeks sparked.
"Chu!" He roared as he filled Raichu with electricity. Despite electricity not being as effective on him, Raichu had never felt such a surge of electricity in his life come from another pokemon, even himself. But how could that be true, Pikachu was the pre-evolved form of him, how has he managed to out electrify him.
Raichu slowly backed up and off Pikachu.
"Iron tail!" Ash shouted. Pikachu leapt up and smashed his tail across Raichu's face, making him stumble backwards even further.
"Alright Pikachu!" Serena shouted.
"He wants to see electricity, show him some Raichu. Thunder!" Surge shouted.
"Chu!" Raichu shouted as he unleashed a massive bolt of electricity at Pikachu.
"Pikachu Volt tackle, just like with Tyson." Ash said.
"Pika." Pikachu said as he covered himself in electricity and ran right into Raichu's Thunderbolt.
"What the? What's he doing?" Surge said as his soldiers looked just as confused.
Pikachu continued running through the Thunder , collecting more and more electricity until he reached Raichu and slammed into him, unleashing all the electricity he had gathered from the 2 attacks.
"Chu!" Raichu shouted in pain.
"Raichu!" Surge shouted.
After Pikachu landed on his feet breathing deeply, Raichu wobbled a bit with swirly eyes before falling onto his back.
"Raichu is unable to battle, the winner is the challenger Ash Ketchum." The captain said.
"Alright we beat him!" Ash shouted.
"Pika!" Pikachu shouted.
"Yes he did it!" Serena shouted.
"I knew they had it in them." Brock said.
"Raichu return, you fought well soldier." Surge said before walking over to Ash.
"Alright son, you and your Pikachu have proved me wrong. For today anyway. In any case you have earned a Thunderbadge." Surge said as he reached into his jacket ACU blouse pocket and took out a badge.
The badge was a orange octagon with yellow petals around it.
"We've got our third badge Pikachu." Ash said showing it to him.
"You lead your pokemon well son, I said before you'd make a decent soldier. I revise that, you'd make a fine officer. I could offer you a recommendation to the academy if you're interested." Surge said.
"Thanks, but uh no thanks." Ash said sweat dropping.
"Ashamed, in any case good luck in the rest of the Pokemon league." Surge said. Later that day Ash and the others were at the pokemon center.
"Congratulations Ash." Lucy said.
"Yeah you and Pikachu did great." Brock said.
"Thanks guys. This victory meant a lot to us." Ash said.
" So Serena you're next showcase is here too right?" Lucy asked.
"It is, but I'm not exactly sure where. There aren't any performance halls in the city." Serena said.
"We still have two days, that's plenty of time to find out." Ash said.
"Plus I still need a little time to finish up my new routines." Serena said.
"I can't wait to see what they are." Ash said.
"Me too." Lucy said.
"Thanks guys, I know Charla and Nidoran have been working really hard on them. Especially Charla." Serena said.
Later that night Seir walked into an office with two other rocket officers beside him.
In the office was the same man whom they had always reported to before.
"Sir, my work near Saffron city was a success." Electric Earl said.
"As was mine north of Cerulean city." Isabel of Infestation said.
"Well done my officers, our plan is getting ever closer. I've already sent Christian to Lavender town. However, we have a problem. It appears one of our executives , Archer , has been captured by the army. We cannot risk him revealing out plans to them."
"Is Archer crucial to the plan?" Earl asked.
"Why?" The man asked.
"Well if we had someone here who was an expert at infiltration and silent killing that we could simply kill him before he reveals anything." Isabel said as she turned to Seir.
"H'mm, a viable option. But I want to examine other options first. In the mean time you all have other assignments that need working on." The man said.
"Yes sir." Earl and Isabel said before they walked out with Seir.
"So Duncan says that Ketchum boy is interfering with my plans again. He's just as foolish as his mother." The man said.
Author's note:
So Ash has his third gym battle, yeah Surge is a Colonel. I decided that he would still be in the army in this version instead of a veteran, and as a military cadet I can tell you someone at his age would not be a lieutenant.
Ash has also caught his Krabby, though in a very different way than the anime…..
