Elsa stood there in shock as she watced her ex walk through Jack's office doors fuming, an evil glare piercing straight towards Jack. Turning to face Jack, she noticed how awkward he looked as Mitchell Black growled and glared at the younger man. Black seemed to ignore Elsa in the room completely as he walked towards Jacks desk and slammed his fist against the wood. "Thats mahogany." Jack said in mock disgust as he saw the wrinkly pale hands on his desk. Sighing in defeat, Jack looked towards Elsa with a look of a reassurance gesturing for Elsa to sit down on the couch in the corner of the room. "What do you want Black?" Jack asked his enemy with little enthusiasm as he effortlessly sat in his chair, swivelling round in a semi-circle uninterested in what the older man wanted.
"Your ridiculous excuse of a company didn't put my companies name on the final copy!" Pitch yelled in anger, showing Jack the final copy of the latest magazine. Rolling his eyes Jack turned to the back page where all the honorifics for the magazine were. Usually, Black's companies name, Black Ink Industries, would be on the back page just above the page number, but a large rectangular box was left empty, this was the area leftover for Blacks companies name, but obviously, it wasn't there. Jack groaned and glared back at Pitch.
"You lazy fuck, that's your companies job! My company did their job, they finished the paper and gave your company room to advertise. It's your companies fault that there isn't one, now theres just a gapping hole for your company." Jack snapped, neither Jack nor Pitch looked away or broke their glaring contest. Their rapid heavy breaths mingled together in angry rasps of air through their nostrils. Every so often Pitch's hand would jerk a bit as if he was about to attack Jack.
"You piece of shit!" Pitch shouted as though he'd just realised his companies mistake and therefore his mistake. He twirled around on the spot, if Jack was in a good mood he would've made a snark remark and called him a ballerina, but Jack was more angry than happy at this moment. Pitch stopped in a moment of disbelief as he saw Elsa sitting on the couch in the corner of the room, suddenly he began to laugh, looking between Jack and Elsa as though that was all he needed to get the answer to all his questions and everything that was making him laugh at that moment. Suddenly he turned completely towards Elsa in a moment of his own amusement, "You married that dipshit?" he asked in disbelief.
Elsa's patience broke like a twig, she stood up in a rush of anger and defended her husband, "Yes, yes I most certainly am, but he's a much better man than you." She snarled in anger and defense, this was unusual for Pitch, when they were younger Elsa had never stood up against him for anything bad he'd ever done, but now as a grown woman she was shouting, glaring and sneering him for anything and almost everything. "Than you will ever be." She sneered, her arms folded and a look that could kill.
Pitch was almost knocked off his feet by how shocked he was from Elsa outrage, he turned to look at Jack, and was surprised even more to see that Jack was unfazed by the woman's anger, as though he'd been through it himself. Pitch took that as a sign and began to chuckle, "Tryna patch things up are we? Had a big fight?" he questioned in a sneering voice as he looked between the two. Jack and Elsa both looked confused or shocked by this remark, this stopped Pitch's smile as his face became serious, "Oh come on, don't play dumb with me Frost's, I can read you both like your stupid magazine. You've had an argument and you're trying to fix it." Pitch sung the last part, almost skipping between the two of them, he was clearly enjoying this.
"Black, is there anything else you want?" Jack asked, tired of having the evil bastard in his office, he pinched the bridge of his nose and scrunched his eyes up, attempting to shut all the noise out and stop the oncoming headache.
"No, not any more." Pitch simply responded as though he was an innocent little boy who was being asked if he'd had fun whilst spending the day at his friends house, whilst looking Elsa up and down as though he'd meant it to be towards her instead of what he'd wanted from Jack's company, which was his previous reason for being in the building in the first place.
"Then get the hell out of my office." Jack snapped, pointing towards the door in annoyance.
Looking down at the ground Pitch smirked as he slowly approached Jack and whispered in a horribly cold tone, "I'll leave, when I fucking want to Frost." As he finished his statement, a shrill ring was sounded throughout the room silencing everyone, then the pale man pulled out his own phone and answered, "What! What do you mean? You idiot! I told you- No! For fuck- Fine!" Pitch shouted through the speaker of his phone and in anger he hung up and turned towards Jack, "Unfortunately this meeting will have to come to a close, somethings come up." He said as he began to leave, but stopped just beside Elsa, turning his head to look back at Jack before whispering in a husky voice close to her ear, "You were better off when you was with me."
Once he had left, Jack fell back in his chair and rubbed his hands over his face. But Elsa stood in the centre of the room in shock. She looked towards the direction that Pitch had taken as he left. She still felt the shock of seeing the man in her husbands office creep all over her, she turned to face Jack with her expression stil one of complete shock, she held up her thumb and pointed back towards the door, "What? What just happened?" she asked in confusion and still shock.
"I, um, my company works with Blacks company." Jack explained, as vague as possible, but the look on Elsa's face should her persistance and eagerness to hear the rest. "His company, Black Ink Industries, was better quality than Duloc Prints, it was a choice between going for better quality but working alongside Pitch, or having terrible quality and having the magazine slowly go down hill and lose profits but not having to work along Pitch, I'm sorry Elsa, but at the time I had to think about the company, not just about the effect it may have if you ever found out, which you did." He gave a better explanation, but Elsa's shock was not gone.
"Why didn't you ever think to tell me? Why did you never tell me that you was working alongside Mitchell Black?" Elsa questioned with a glare, her arms unfolded and her hands landed on her hips, she pursed her lips together to show she was finished and that she wanted an answer to her questions, a good answer.
Jack stood there looking at Elsa as if she'd grown an extra head, "Oh come on, Elsa, surely you should know why I never told you. It's Pitch! He was your ex! I didn't want you to freak out that I was working alongside him." He told her, that was his best answer, it was near enough the only good answer he had for her question, but her look told him, crystal clear, that she wanted more. What more could he give?
"So is that why you've never allowed me to come to your office when everyone else was here? Because of Mitchell?" she asked him flapping her arms around in the air as if to exaggerate their situation and to point out what she means, but it was useless, there was no need for her to actually flap her arms around, she just needed to do something with them.
"Yes! I didn't want you to come here on a day when he would be here, is there a problem with that Elsa? I was trying to keep you away fom the man that had hurt you. Remember that Elsa? Remember what he did to you?" he questioned, he wanted to make his point as well, but he didn't do all the flapping. To answer his questioning Elsa nodded, a sad look on her face. Jacks voice was loud when he spoke to her, he was getting angry again. She couldn't do this now, this was what Pitch wanted, but she just didn't see it that way, neither did he as he continued to dig further, "And who was it that found you in the janitors closet and helped you?" he asked, he paused long enough for her to respond. A quite 'you' was heard from Elsa, Jack nodded. Rubbing his hands over his face and through his messy hair. "I was trying to protect you. From him. I couldn't when we were younger because whatever I did you wouldn't listen, but now I can." He told her, his voice gradually calmed throughout the speech he gave to her.
But she persisted to know why he would keep the secret from her, she brushed his heart warming speech off without a second thought, "But we're supposed to talk about these things. You should've told me." She whined. Suddenly, trying to convince her that his reasons were good enough vanished.
Jack reached his breaking point.
"Just like you should've told me about the abortion, huh Elsa?" Jack sneered looking up from his desk which he had been staring at ever since this argument had become more heated, when he'd reached his breaking point. He knew it was low, to bring it all back to the abortion she'd had when they'd started college, but hey, this argument was low already. Elsa's eyes began to water and she winced a little as she started to feel the pain of the guilt all over again. She wanted to beg him not to bring that up again, but she'd be a hypocrite if she did.
"T-this is different, Jack." She tried to say without having her voice crack and break, but her attempt was futile, and trying to stop your voice from breaking when you talk whilst your upset is almost impossible, only the very experienced can manage such a thing, and Elsa had lost her experience thanks to Jack.
"No, this is much less of a secret than the termination of a foetus. A foetus that I hadn't even known existed until just a couple of days ago." Jack explained in a scarily calm tone, his tone showed no anger or resentment, just a chilling calm, though his harsh wording cut through Elsa even more, like he was chopping her into tiny little cubes. Jacks gaze shifted from Elsa to see the perky kid from earlier on that day outside his door. Elsa also turned her attention towards the door, quickly composing herself before Jack gestured for Po to come in. "Hey Po, make it quick, yeah?" Jack urged in a soft tone.
"Oh, yeah, right, um, these are all your letters that you missed whilst you were away." He said awkwardly as he felt the tension between the married couple, he wanted to ask if everything was alright, but in his position of work, he'd prefer not to get his ass kicked. Jack nodded and gestured for him to leave.
Without taking note of his letters, Jack turned his attention back to Elsa and waited for the door to click signalling that Po had left completely. The click took longer than it should. "Po! The door!" Jack shouted, and the kid came back in a rush to shut the door, mumbling an apology before it closed properly. "Els, I can't keep fighting to keep our marriage working no more. I'm a wounded soldier, if you want to stay married to me then... I think you should try nursing me back to fighting fit health, if you don't... then... then I think... a divorce wouldn't be a bad idea for us right now." He managed to get out to her, his tone soft and full of remorse.
Elsa's eyes widened at the thought. She'd wanted a divorce before, but that was when she believed he'd been cheating on her, now she wanted anything but a divorce, "Jack, please, we can work this out. L-let me do the fighting for a while, to prove I'm sorry for what I've done, to get my shit straight. We still have counselling sessions, we can tell Dr Fredrickson that we wanted to come back." Elsa suggested, but Jack raised his eyebrow at her in a questioning gaze.
"A. I'm the one who does the fighting Elsa, you just do the nursing, its how its always been. B. You do need to get your shit straight and I'm hoping thats at the top of your list of things to do. C. I'm not going back to Carl until I've had my week, it's only just started." Jack listed to her, sighing and rubbing his forehead. Elsa walked toward him in his chair and crouched beside him, rubbing soothing circles on his knee. Taking his hand away from his head he rested his arm on her shoulder and rubbed the back of her neck soothingly, "So, my wife, what do you want to do for the rest of the day?" he asked, smiling a small but kind smile at her.
"Tell me about your work. What does everyone do? I don't care about what Mitchell does, but what about everyone here do?" she asked, her eyes twinkling. Jack groaned throwing his head back on his chair, but his hand stayed behind her neck rubbing soothing circles.
Authors Notes: Hey guys!
I'm on a roll! I'm doing much better than I had before. *applauds self*
Yes Nancy is a lesbian, just because that was the best reason I could think of for her not to be attracted to Jack, or the other way around, because she was interested in women.
Yes there is an argument in here, and Jack's given up the fight (did he before?), but it'll get better, maybe a bit of smut soon (WARNING: I've never written smut, I might suck at it... or it might take me longer to write)
Any other questions? Why? Ok, ask away, I'll try to answer in the next chapter, if not, sorry.
Hey MyLittleHatter, what should I do in the next chapter?!
Okay I'm going to stop now before my authors notes becomes longer than the actual chapter itself.
