DNA catastrophe ch 14
Short chapter but I thought you guys deserved an extra Christmas present :) or whatever you celebrate. Merry Christmas and happy holidays and have a happy new year!
Chapter 14: recovery
"Guys, I could use some help." Nova called over the com link.
"We're coming. Spidey said and the team raced off, determined to turn a certain mad scientist into calamari. They arrived in time to see Nova get whacked out a window by one of Doc Ock's arms.
"More pests." Doc growled upon seeing the heroes. Norman Osborn was unconscious on the other side of the room, a high tech gun lay broken a few feet away from him, evidence that he had at least tried to put up a fight. Nova flew back inside and regrouped with his team.
"Ok team, attack pattern k." Spidey ordered. They launched their attack.
"What? No clever come backs from any of you?" Doc asked.
"No, we're too ticked off at you for using our friend." Power man said as he threw a desk to distract Doc while Nova shot energy bolts from the opposite side.
"Gah! Insects! I shall crush you all! Repudiate!" He called through a controller.
"Sorry, that's not gonna work on her anymore." Spidey said as he used his webs to sling shot Iron Fist and White Tiger into the air. They used a combo attack to blast Doc off his feet.
"What have you done to my pawn?" Doc growled.
"We set her free." Iron Fist said as Spider-Man finished him off by webbing up his appendages.
"This isn't the last you'll see of… mmph!" Doc was cut off by Spider-Man shooting webbing across his mouth.
"That should hold him until SHEILD arrives." Tiger said. True to her words Shield operatives came in just as she finished that sentence. The team boarded the Tricarrier and hurried to the medical area to see how Alice was doing.
"Alice is stable. You gave her that cure just in the nick of time." Mr Dr Cage informed the team. They all sighed a collective sigh of relief. Mrs Dr Cage opened the door, leading them into the room Alice was in. She was sitting in the middle of a white room, staring at the wall opposite the door. Instead of the enthusiastic greeting they were expecting Alice did nothing.
"Alice?" Spidey called, swinging over to land in front of her. He waved a hand I front of her face. She blinked, but that was all. The others came and tried to get her to react. All she did was blink after each attempt.
"What's wrong with her?" Tiger asked.
"It seems that the DNA unraveling then suddenly becoming whole again sent her into a state of mental shock." Mrs Dr Cage explained, "the best thing we can do for her is allow her time to recover."
"How long will that take?" Asked Nova.
"We're not sure, her whole mind could've reset itself in order to compensate for the shock. She might not even recognize her own name." Mr Dr Cage explained.
"So she doesn't remember anything, anything at all?" Iron Fist asked.
"As far as we're aware." Mrs Dr Cage confirmed. Alice closed her eyes.
"We should let her rest." Mr Dr Cage said, ushering the heroes out the door. All but Iron Fist that is. He knelt down next to her chair, placing a glowing palm on her cheek. After a moment Alice opened her eyes and looked at him, but instead of two blue eyes shining with life and hope, they were like cold glass, lifeless. He continued trying to use his powers to heal her, unfortunately it seemed this injury was beyond even his healing powers. Taking his hand away, Alice continued looking at him with her lifeless eyes.
"I'm sorry." Iron fist whispered as he stood up and left the room. Alice's hand slowly reached up and touched her cheek, a tear sneaking down her face. But still she said nothing, and after another minute she returned to the position she had been before, allowing her eyes to close.
