"Jack!" Kim says once she walks out of the locker room. "What are you doing here?" She asks, walking over to the gang who were waiting on the benches with the rest of the students. Some even from the opposing team's school. "I thought that Julie said you have to stay off of it." She says, motioning to his ankle which you could tell was wrapped underneath his sock.
"She did." Julie says, annoyed.
"I thought I should come over and support you." Jack tells her. He looks over at the rest of the gang-which just so happened to exclude Milton and Jerry-before pulling Kim away from where the rest of the gang was. "Like I said yesterday, I want to start over and I thought this was a great way to start." He says.
"Look Jack, that's really sweet and all, but" Kim says, the 'but' burning a hole through Jack's hope. "you really need to stay off of that ankle. It's for your own good and you know that." She tells him. "Go back to your dorm." She says, walking off, not letting Jack get the last word.
Don't think of it like she's the enemy. She wanted Jack there, more than anything. Seeing Jack there, under the right conditions, would make her day. To see that he's not holding such a big grudge against Kai. Okay, maybe he would just be there for Kim, but that's still great! Him being able to accept the fact that she's on the football team is another step of the plan. It shouldn't be too hard to get him to accept the fact that football is just as good for you as Karate is. Maybe even get him to accept the fact that Kai is on the football team. Then Brett.
Okay, that might take some more time. With Brett loving Grace as much as he does and Jack loving her just as much, being her brother, it could get a bit more difficult. Well, it is progress. When Kim first got there, no one would believe them if someone told them that Jack went to a football game. It used to be impossible. Before Kim came anyway.
Kim started making her way over to where the rest of the football team was.
"Hey," Brett says, walking up from behind her. "how'd you make Jack come?" He asks.
Kim looks back at the bleachers to find Jack sitting there where she left him with the rest of the gang.
"I didn't." Kim tells him honestly. Brett seems surprised by Kim's answer.
"You mean he came here by choice?" He asks, rather surprised.
"Quite the contrary." Kim tells him. "He wasn't supposed to leave his dorm."
"What do you mean?" Brett asks, rather confused.
"Some of your football friends decided to pull a prank. They had the brilliant idea of asking Jerry for help, who instead of getting smelly socks, got heavy rocks."
"Hey," Brett interrupts, "My football friends are yours too." He tells her.
"Sure, well, they dropped them on top of Jack and he fractured something. Tribula, I think that's what Julie called it. He's not supposed to put any pressure on it. He decided to ignore what Julie said and come here."
"I think you mean tibia." Brett corrects.
"Okay, he fractured his tibia." Kim says, correcting herself.
"So, he's here, even though he's been told not to?" Brett tries to clarify.
"Um, yeah, that's what I just said."
"Well that's great!" He exclaims. He had a bigger smile than what Kim thought was possible. It was slightly creepy.
"How exactly is that great?" Kim asks.
"He came here even though he's been specifically told not to. Just wait till Kai hears this."
"I think he already has." Kim said, pointing over to were Luke was pointing at Jack, on the bleachers, showing Kai, who looked like he couldn't be more surprised.
"Next thing you know, I'll be able to take Grace out without her resisting because of Jack." Brett says to Kim.
"I know, it's finally at least starting to all come together." She says.
"Kim!" Kai yells, walking over to where she and Brett were. "What's Jack doing here?" He asks, seeming to be more confused than angry.
"I specifically told him not to come. You should just ask him yourself. He claims it's for support."
"Support?" He asks, clearly not believing Kim.
"Yea," She answers. "I was just as surprised when I saw him as you are now." She tells him. "Hey, why don't you go ask him why he's here?" Kim asks, trying to get Kai and Jack to at least interact. Kai stares at Kim for a while then looks up at the bleachers. Jack catches Kai looking at him and Kai looks back at Kim.
"No," He simply says before walking back over to were Luke and Jeremy were talking.
"Well," Brett says. "That was normal."
"Sure," Kim says, looking at Kai who was walking back to where he came from. "let's call it that." It was true. According to what Kim has heard from the other students, that was normal.
It was the third down and the score was tied. Kim had only received the ball from Kai once in the entire game, and that was because the rest of the team had been yelling at Kai for not passing Kim the ball during the short time out that had been called. When she was given the ball, she ran down the football feild, baraly making it past the thridy yard line. She was soon tackled. By the other team. She could have sworn she saw a jersey signalling her team that was worn by someone on top of her. Now, her arm hurt. A lot. She had Brett to blame. You can bet that Brett will be dead once the game is over.
"Set, hike!" Kai yells. Kai was passed the ball and he saw how everyone was being gaurded. He took the risk and he ran. He ran towards the goal. I was close behind him. I had my mind set on someone from the other team. He had the number twelve written on his jersey.
A whistle was blown and Kim turned around to find the football on the grass. She didn't notice that a time out was called. Everyone was making their way over to the coach. Kim ran over to make it just before the coach started talking.
"Alright, we've got one more shot at winning the game. I say Kai, pass it to Kim and Kim, you run to the end." Kim's eyes widen.
"Look, I don't think that's such a great idea. The one time Kai gave me the ball I was tackled-"
"And I don't see any other choice." The coach said. Jeremy and Matt, switch spots, make sure Kim makes it to the end, all of you." Way to add the pressure. Kim thought to herself. If she didn't make this touchdown, she'd have a rant from the rest of the team. Not only that, but the game would have to go over the time that was expected. She'd have to make this touchdown.
"Set, hike." Kai received the ball and passed it to Kim immediately. He shot her a look clearly saying 'don't make me regret it'.
Kim ran with the ball towards the goal (She still couldn't remember the proper name as Brett called it) As expected, everyone from the other team started running after her. They started to close in on her. The same person as earlier that had the number twelve on her back started to close in on her right side. She kept running. Brett who was already so close to the touchdown line, caught her eye. She stopped running and ran backwards, confusing some of the people running after her. They kept running before realizing that Kim was behind them. Kim threw Brett the football. He caught it and ran to the touchdown. Surly enough, it the timer went off, signaling that the game was over. They barely won.
Kim ran past her team that was already cheering. She ran towards the bleachers and managed to get in between the metal bars. She got her sparring bag and grabbed it before heading to the entrance of the school. Once she got there, she found the van that Rudy was in.
"Come on come on!" He yells as Kim get's closer.
"I'm coming I'm coming!" Kim yells as she jumps in the van, slamming the door behind her while Rudy jumps into the drivers seat.
"The place isn't far from here. We should be able to make it in time for your sparring. You'll need to change out of..." He points at Kim. "that."
"I know, I'm not to fond of it either." Kim tells him.
"Then why did you join?" Jack asks.
"Jack!" Kim exclaims, startled. "How did you get here?" She hasn't noticed that Jack was in the van till he spoke up.
"Uh... walking?" He responds.
"I know I told you to go back to your dorm but why come? You seriously don't like to listen to Julie."
"No, I just like to cheer my friends on, afnd cofsmsfpsfte."
"Hold on, what?"
"Jack's gonna compete." Rudy says, rather cheerfully.
"What?" Kim exclaims.
"With a bo staff." Jack adds.
"Jack, you can't compete. Julie told you so herself. Your ankle will take longer to heal." Kim says.
"I can't let you guys down. This year we finally have a good chance at winning and I'm not going to let them down. We got as excited as we did because we've got two black belts and I'm not going to take back down to one."
"There'll be more tournaments Jack. You're not-"
"Yes I am!" He snaps, slightly scaring Kim. He mentally yelled at himself for being as harsh as he was.
"Fine, do what you want. But don't say I didn't warn you."
And that she did.
So so so so so so so sorry guys! It's been forever and I've kinda been busy with that written on the window Christmas story and just the holidays in general. Um... I think I'll be able to get back on track with writing. Believe it or not, that written on the window story somehow made my writing faster. After I started that story, I've been able to get much more writing done in less time. So keep a look out for updates every friday.
Oh, and after this story, I might start another AU. But it will be EXTREMELY off topic. would you be into that? Tell me in the reviews.
