She felt like she had only been asleep for a few minutes when she heard screams coming from the girl's room. Daryl was up on his feet in seconds, grabbing his crossbow as they flew through the door.

"Lizzie! What are you doing?!" Little Mika screamed out as she was trying to push her sister away from her. Lizzie had her knife in hand.

"I have to Mika, they have to see… don't worry you'll come back, I won't hurt your brain." Lizzie spoke in an eerie calm as she attempted to stab her sister.

Daryl Grabbed Lizzie by the waist pulling her off as Carol struggled to pull the knife from her hands. Mika crawled into the corner and covered her face crying, confused why her sister would want to hurt her and thankful Carol had come in time.

"I'll make you see….just give me a chance!"

"Lizzie….Enough!" Daryl shouted as he pinned her down wrapping both arms and legs around her. She was stronger than he thought she would be but within a few minutes she seemed to calm down and once carol had gotten the knife away he slowly let her go.

Carol stood there with Lizzie's knife in her hand and stared in disbelief, it was much worse than she allowed herself to believe. She turned away to check on Judith and froze as she looked down into an empty crib. Her mind raced as she looked over the room.

"L…L..Lizzie…. W… Where's Judith?" Carol struggled to get the words out afraid to hear the answer.

"….. She was a danger…. She always cried… He was hungry…."

"What did you do!?" Daryl shouted as he spun Lizzie around to face him. The anger in his voice harsher than anything Carol had heard out of him before.

"My friend was starving…. And she was going to just get us killed anyway!"

Daryl began to shake; he had never felt so disgusted and angry in his life. She had taken a defenses little baby and fed it to a walker like she was left overs. He let go over her and just glared back at her not knowing of how even to deal with this.

"Take Mika to get her something to eat." Carol whispered gently as she placed a hand on Daryl back.

He looked up at her then back at Lizzie before walking over to Mika and picking her up, carrying her out of the room without saying a word. Carol stayed back with Lizzie and made sure there were no more knives or weapons in the room. She didn't yell or even talk about what she had done, what could be said it was unthinkable.

When she finally came out into the living area Mika had fallen back to sleep on the sofa and Daryl was sitting on the ground next to her. She stood and leaned in the arch way looking over at him, no sure whether to say anything.

"What do we do 'bout that?" He asked quietly looking back over at her.

Carol ran her hand through her hair as she slid down to the ground.

"She can't be around other people; we can't have… her sleeping in the same house as Mika. I…. I could leave with her."

"Alone?"

"We have to keep Mika safe…"

"I can't take care of the kid alone. She needs ya…..I…I need ya woman" His response came so low she almost wasn't sure he really said it.

Carol sat quietly for a few moments looking at both Daryl and Mika then back down at her lap.

"I should have seen it earlier….."

"How could ya?"

"I could have….. I didn't want to ….. and now look where we are."

"What could ya of done?"

Carol looked up at him with a unreadable expression on her face. "She can't be around other people."

Daryl looked back at her knowing what she was saying without her saying it. He knew Carol loved these girls like they were her own, as much as she loved Sophia. He knew she was right and Lizzie had to be taken down, but he couldn't make Carol be the one to do it.

"I… I'll do it."

"No, Daryl….. I need you to take Mika hunting… This is my responsibility….." Carol responded climbing to her feet and heading back to their room.

He got up and followed closely behind her but didn't say anything. He sat and watched her as she got dressed. Once she was finished she grabbed her pistol and stuck it in the back of her pants, and then she looked out the window and watched as the sun rose.

Daryl got up and stood behind her.

"Ya sure?" He whispered into her ear.

She nodded slowly and turned to face him. "Take Mika as far out as you can….. as long as you can."

"Carol…"

"Daryl... Please just go"

Daryl nodded and turned to head out, stopping turning back and kissing her trying his best to show his support and not sure what else to do but honor what she asked him to do.

Carol waited for a while after Daryl and Mika left making sure they had a good distance from the house before going to tell Lizzie she needed to talk to her. Lizzie smiled sweetly and followed carol out into the grove looking around and singing to herself like nothing had happened.

"We should pick some wild flowers for the house to brighten it up for when Daryl and Mika get back."

"Yeah, does Daryl like flowers?" Lizzie asked with a giggle.

Carol tried to force a smile but her pain was obvious on her face.

"W..what is it? Are you mad at me?" Lizzie asked grabbing onto Carol's arms.

Tears began to build in Carol's eyes as she shook her head.

"Yes you are you're mad at me." Lizzie began to sob as she turned away and walked over to the flower patch."

"I'm sorry I pulled my knife on Mika… I just wanted to show you and now you hate me." Lizzie cried harder.

"I… I could never hate you, I love you Lizzie….. Love you like I loved my girl….. Everything works out the way it's supposed to." Carol was crying herself at this point as her shaky hand reached for her gun. "I will always love you, just look at the flowers Lizzie."

She took aim shaking hard and sobbing softly trying to not let Lizzie hear. "God forgive me." She whispered and pulled the trigger.
