Hey, guys! I know it has been a really long time since I last posted. I have been super busy and I just remembered recently how much I was enjoying writing this. I hope to start posting chapters more often after midterms. Thanks for reading.
Bring high the lights of tomorrow
Blow out the flames of old
Spread sight to all who suffer from sorrow
Give treasures out to the ones of gold.
I wake up lying in bed, disoriented. Again. I can't help but wonder if I will ever wake up knowing what happened moments before. I hear distant voices. I peek out from under my eyelashes and see Charming, his hands gripped on a chair, glaring at Gold who sits across from him. Snow and Regina talk off in the corner, and Emma observes all of this with her arms crossed. I see her start to look my direction so I shut my eyes.
I hear an urgent knock at the door and wonder who it could be. All the hushed talking stops and I hear Emma announce she will get it with an annoyed tone. More knocking.
"I'm coming, I'm coming." I open my eyes slightly to see Emma fling the door open to see David standing there. He looks thoroughly confused. I shut my eyes.
"David." Snow says his name softly, in the calmest tone she can muster.
"Where is she?" His voice is thick with worry. Apparently someone pointed my direction because I soon hear him breathing softly beside me. He softly touches my arm and the room goes silent. David clears his throat, "What happened?" No one says anything. And I consider saying something to indicate that I'm awake, but part of me thinks that really is not the best idea right now. Charming is the first to answer.
"Let's go talk somewhere else, David. I don't want to wake her up." I risk a peek to see Charming and David walking up the stairs slowly. I bite my lip. What happened to me? They act like I almost died. But I feel fine. I open my eyes and start to sit up. Emma is immediately beside me, gently pushing me back down.
"Hey, Kid. You need rest."
"What happened to me? Why is everyone acting so weird?" I search her eyes for some sort of indication, but before she can answer, Regina pulls her away, whispering something urgently into her ear. They both leave the loft.
"Honey?" It's Snow. I take deep breaths and try to calm down as the waves of anxiety try to overcome me. She sits beside me and runs her fingers through my hair.
"I'm not good for this family." I say it softly, Snow is shaking her head before I even finish, "All these bad things keep happening. Maybe I… Maybe I should…"
"No." Mr. Gold is now standing at the end of my bed, leaning heavily against his cane. Snow glares at him. "Get. Away. From. My. Daughter."
"Oh, calm yourself, dearie! I just came over here to see if she was okay." I frown at him, suddenly remembering the seconds just before I blacked out.
"You did this." It's a statement. The three of us all know it. What I don't understand is why he is still here.
"As a matter of fact I did, dearie. But, maybe not for the reason you think."
"You did it because we took her home early. You did it for revenge." Snow looks like she is considering karate kicking him out the window. I wouldn't oppose that decision based off his devilish grin. He does the little Rumple laugh that has always creeped me out to no end.
"Dearie, dearie, dearie. If I had wanted to keep her, I wouldn't have told Belle to let her go." I narrow my eyes at him, and I don't even have to look over at Snow to know she's doing the same.
"Then why, exactly did you do it?" Snow calculates her words slowly, "Why, did you do it if it wasn't for selfish reasons?" There's that laugh again.
"I saved her. Well, at least for now." He says it like it was obvious, and that we are idiots for not realizing it. When we both just stare at him he elaborates, "You, Snow, more than anyone, should know. With a family notorious for their pure hearts, there is always someone who wants such a special heart for themselves." I can feel her gaze on me, but I focus my stare at Rumple.
"Someone wants to take my heart?" Snow grabs my hand tightly and I catch the cue that I need to stop talking.
"How would making her black out help that situation at all?"
"I didn't just make her black out. Those details really don't matter. What matters is that my sources say that whoever wants it…this precious heart…is among you." Among us? I close my eyes. There goes the idea of finally feeling safe with my family. But he has to be lying. No one would do that. No one. Right?
"Well your sources are wrong. No one in this family would ever do anything to hurt Rachel." Snow stands and walks over to the door opening it for him. "Get out. Now."
"Well don't say I didn't warn you." He laughs and winks at me before slamming the door behind him.
