While Finn took the phone call, Blaine whipped out a small recording device. He held it between his thumb and pointer finger, looking pleased with himself. The teenagers stared at him blankly.
"Um are we supposed to know what that is?" Charlie asked. His question was ignored as the man with the bushy eyebrows snapped his fingers. With an eye roll similar to his father's, the piano player Brandon rolled out one of those ancient televisions. Blaine plugged the device into it. The screen was grey and fuzzy for a moment before a bunch of hot guys in navy blue school uniforms appeared in bad quality. They performed "Love Again" by Pentatonix in perfect pitch and dancing. The notable soloists were dazzling. When the song was done, Blaine snapped again and a taller, paler guy sauntered into the room, dragging a cluttered whiteboard. On the whiteboard were several faces, attached to each other with different colored strings. Four of the faces were circled although the one in the center was circled several times with various colors.
"These are your greatest enemy. The Warblers are provisioned dancing, singing, heartthrobs who shoot to win. Luckily for you guys, Kurt and I have narrowed it down to four main threats," he said with a deadly serious expression. Kurt handed him a wooden stick and he smacked the point hard against the first circled face.
"The low notes came from the scruffy dark haired bad boy of the group: Zakk Devon. Senior. Straight as a zigzag in both behavior and sexuality. He's got a lot of talent, but not a lot of spark," Blaine said to the now attentive audience. A couple of the girls looked slightly disappointed about his availability, but most looked at his brooding face and felt intimidated.
"The high notes were hit by a shy and gorgeous boy: Leo Devon. Junior. Doesn't talk to a lot of people so it's hard to tell which way he swings. He's got the look and the sound, but his confidence levels are wobbly," He declared as a few people awed. Al turned away from the battle plan, looking uncharacteristically at Randy with affection as guilt overwhelmed her small crush on Leo.
"Dance solo was the floppy haired dork: Alex Walters. Junior. Lady lover. His academics are his main priority, but he does despise his loneliness," Blaine sighed with pity. He shook his head at the gawky teen's image, then slammed the pointer into the center picture's bow tie. As the bow tie tore slightly, the former Warbler didn't ease up the pressure.
"The main part was sung by a confident blonde boy with a lopsided, unwavering smile: Skylar Gustin. Junior. Warbler captain and leader. No notable flaws," he turned to the group, dark chocolate eyes aflame with determination.
"I want you to find these boys. Facebook them, tweet them, bump into them by 'accident', I frankly don't care. Just get them on your good side, maybe try to learn from them. Like the phrase says, 'Keep your enemies closer'," He looked like he was about to say more, but Finn burst through the room, ignoring everyone as he just ran right out the door. The room was silent for a few moments, confusion and tension thick in the air.
"Um, class dismissed, I guess," Kurt finally interjected the silence. Hesitantly, the guild of misfits left the choir room. Both Randy and Abby tried to walk with Amelia, but she waved them off gently with a hug for Abby and a quick kiss on the cheek for Randy. Palms sweating as she almost tripped over her own feet speed walking, Al started hyperventilating. Why did you do that? Randy doesn't like contact, you know that. You're the worst… whatever on the face of the planet. You don't deserve him especially now that that Warbler guy is-
"Amy!" Al's frantic thoughts were interrupted by the perkier girl skipping towards her. Kasey's oversized lacy sweater now functioned as a cute dress with homemade cutouts and her black converse. Like always, her dark red hair was messily tangled in her face. As she brushed it aside, her constant beam was still present.
"Hey Amy, howsit going? Are you gonna do the assignment from Mr. Blaine? I think we should do it together and talk to that Leo guy. Man talk about hubba hubba. It's too bad you're taken although you and that blue guy are cute together and hey that means more for me, right?" Al just nodded, not even bothering to correct the bubbly girl on her name not being Amy. She was about to speak a coherent reply when she was interrupted once more.
"It was good seeing you Ams! See ya later!" As she skipped away, Al just shook her head. Making a noise that was a mixture of a hysterical chuckle and a sigh, she headed for the side door of the building with her dad's car already in sight.
[The Next Day-Wednesday]
Finn was conspicuously absent, so Blaine and Kurt made a second appearance. Asking immediately if anyone had fulfilled the assignment, a small, scarred hand rose slowly into the air. Wheeling over towards the piano, Ellie stared into the audience with her breathtaking hazel eyes. Beginning "Safe and Sound" by Taylor Swift, the room remained silent and captivated by the mysterious foreign girl. Her acapella was moving, the slight catches of breath notable without the soft plinking of chords behind it. Her strength was unwavering, but tears still formed in her eyes. Singing always brought forth emotions. When she was done, the applause was respectful and polite.
"That was beautiful, Ellie," Kurt whispered. Blaine nodded in agreement.
So, it's been a couple of months since I last updated. I've just been busy with school and life so I didn't really have time to think about this. But enough excuses! If you're still reading, be sure you've submitted your Rent audition! Also, if you are interested in a plot with any of the four Warblers mentioned, please let me know. I would just like to thank everyone who's still tuned and still comments faithfully and I don't blame anyone who isn't. Next chapter will be Rent auditions. (I'm sorry Acapella was so short with only two or three songs but I was honestly feeling writer's block with it).
